There is a lot of discussion about spirits and hauntings. I'd like to hear what people have to say about their beloved pets, here and gone. I am a firm believer in familiars. I also believe that when a beloved pet passes, he or she continues to be with us, as spirits, and, or guides. Does anyone else have a pet whom they believe is still with them in spirit? I believe the love from a pet is stronger than any human can ever have.

If you are kind enough and love an animal enough any one can be a familiar to you i guess. Personally mines my cat I've had for 10 years. She's good at sensing my mood and personallity, and I guess 'protects' me, from any unwanted manifestation of evil. Once she dies it's most likely he spirit will still be near me after because of the close contection we share.

i could see that being possible. personally, neither of my spirit animals are animals that i've actually had as a pet. i can't say for sure though, i mean truly if you love a pet it would only seem logical that it would either carry on to a new life or continue to be with you during yours, and if it is a familiar it is just that much more likely to stay behind for you.

I can't say that I undertand or believe in the idea of an animal familiar.

I have, however, had animals that I related to. Some whom I felt closer to than many of the people in my life. I particullarly remember a dog that my grandparents had when I was young and I recall how sad I was at his passing. I can remember several summers spent on their farm when I spent what seemed like hours at his grave site remembering him.

I can also remember a Horse I had that had to be put down due to severe colic. I remember spending his final night together, constantly walking with him around the paddock with the vet standing buy, hoping against hope that we could save him.

I recall these and other animals often in dreams and I had a very real, emotional connection with them when they were alive. I wouldn't consider any what I had heard described as familiars, however.

I have a strong connection with animals and believe an animals love is more stronger than a humans in a sense that it is unconditional and is of the purest form. They are with us , in spirit always, even when they have passed, at times even sending another to fill the void after they pass to ease us in our suffering..their best friend.

Yes I believe that pets stay with us. I had 2 dogs who passed on and I feel their presence all the time. A cat too.

I agree, our pets love is unconditional and therefore it stays with us. I have had a lovely cat past away and I still feel her when i am sleeping and hear her sounds. She was my first cat who slept on me in my bed. Bacardi.

you could be right. I had a dog for a long time and ever since he has been gone I feel as though I have a protector around at all times.

I have had many Pets in the Past that I truly Loved and are gone, that I still miss alot. But I had one Cat Rusty who I was extremely Close too. I had an unbelivable bond with Him. He died like 2.5 yrs back and it took alot out of me Internally, but it is still like he is still around me somehow in my Life? I still miss Him everyday in a Physical sense, but I know his is still with me in a way I can't really describe. I keep His Pic on my shelf and every now and then it just falls to the floor? And stiill sometimes hear little Heavy Footsteps in the House, just like the Ones He used to make? So I know he is still with me somehow?

I believe in animal familiars and spirit companions as they are all part of nature.

I have a dog and a cat that my whole family thinks still stick around. Its weird, but little things such as our old cats toy will be misplaced. Is she just saying hi :)

I had my familiar for about 20 years she got sick and past away over the years i have had other cats but none were the same as suli was I stillcan catch her every once and awhile i feel her and know she is there I have a new familiar now her name is Iris i love her to death but my Suli knows there is no other like her

I had a dog as a child. kinda weird animal in a sense i guess. Australian Sheppard... the one that looks like patched plaid or whatever...blue and gray... two different color eyes... like one you might think he couldn't see out of, but he could, at least i always thought so. he was very smart it seemed. i would talk to him and he would sit in front of me the whole time and listen nodding even making noises like he was trying to talk back. seemed like he knew what i was talking about and i could understand what he was trying to say too... found him in the ditch in front of my house one day, looked like he was shot

My dog, Zorba passed away last year in the Spring. When he died, I kept hearing him - his footsteps or just his breathing. I even had dreams about finding him alive. In the dreams I would play with him like I had done in the past. Then I would wake up. The dreams and the sounds have since passed. I hope they come again.

On another note, I think I might have a spirit gaurdian. He is a wolf and I have dubbed him Amon.

my honored family is still with me. They walk along side me in this world from the next. And i thank Luna that they do. lol

i think our creatures are still around..especially madam and rajh (an ancient siamese and a burmese python) our still living 4 foots follow me around and are very attentive..sometimes i swear i see iggy in the greenhouse and he passed several years ago..

I believe animals can be protectors and watchers. My kitten Smokey is very much my familar.

Fimiliars are animals that know your secrets..are there when a witch cast spells, is a confidont when sorrow comes and is a ward agenst black and or evil magicks...

I sadly do not have a pet at this time.
However I did once and though my dog "swingger" is gone from this world, her mark is still felt.

yes ... When I was little I had a pet named Monster and he died at a young age but I still can remember what it felt like when he would sleep on my feet at night and I sometimes can even feel him still there...

i had an awesome dog and i swear sometimes when i sleep i can feel her fur up against my face and there is no one or nothing else in the bed with me

I have a kitty that is about 6 months old. She came to live with us when she was 6 weeks old but I was there for her birth and saw her nearly every day til she was big enough to leave her mother. She seems to know what is happening with me all the time. Just when I need some comfort...she comes to me and rubs on my legs or hops into my lap. We got her about 3 weeks after I lost a baby during pregnancy and she has seriously filled in that hole of raw pain and I cant imagine my life without her. I doubt that she will EVER leave me even after her time to move on comes.

yeah sometimes I still see my pet that I had when I was a child.. I feel like he is always with me when things are not going so well.

I've found that 'pets' tend to be spiritually out of tune, the more domestic they are, the less in touch with their 'primal eye'. This 'primal eye' as I like to call it allows an animal to interact with the spirit realm. Human's have this as well, but it has been almost desensitized by centuries of neglect. In his book, "Animal Speak", Ted Andrews gives a brief synopsis of animal totems and animal guides. (remember that this is like a dream book, and is entirely true with everyone). He explains how his hawks and wild horses respond almost immediately to spiritual stimulus, while his cats and dogs either ignore it completely or take a lengthy amount of time. However, I do think that pets that have bonded particularily stongly with their owner will continue to help the still living person from its place in the spirit realm. Pets such as dogs have such an intense loyalty about them that they are generally prone to becomming a guide after they've passed. Cats, although less likely are still domesticated enough to build intense bonds with their human counterparts, and attempt to comfort and guide the person after death. That be what i think.

*I'd like to make an important change to my previous statement. Dream books are NOT true with everyone. By leaving out those three letters I totally changed the full meaning of what I meant. Dream books can really only work as a general guide, and are not completely useless. Only the person who had the dream or the vision can fully explain what it means. (sorry, if i didn't correct that, it would have gone against a large quantity of my marathon ranting sessions.)

ok i am also a strong believer in familiars cause my dog is my familiar. and how i know this is while i was at school last year he was hit by a car and injured very bad and while i was at school the same time he was hit i collapsed in the center of the hall and i feel his pain even now while im in korea my arm feals like its broken and he had his front leg broken by another car

I do believe that our pets become our familiars and after death stick with us throughout our life as our spirit guides and protectors if you will....

my puppy is the best ever familiar anyone could ask for!

My familiar would be my black, green eyed cat, Littlebit. He hangs out at our barn and only comes down when I feed him, then he follows me around, hissing at my other cats and dogs, and even my parents if they get too close.

I have a familiar.. as far as animal spirits, it is a white dog, i dont know where it came from . But everytime I go somewhere even if it is just for a walk, I see this dog and it is walking not to far from me, off to the side. pretty cool

my Great Dane, Matilda protects both me and my son. she allways seems to know when one of us is hurt or feeling unwell. she does her best to comfort us. she is also very spoilt. she seems to read my moods very well to the piont of copeing them.

A good pet is a joy.

We have a cat named Bombmer, he talks back to me when I speak to him directly many animals are like this they seem to understand what you say even know when your hurt or upset and try to comfort you.

That is why animals are used for pet therapy now because they have keener senses then humans have. I don't believe this means they are a familiar just a friend.

A familiar from my understanding is an animal that is used during majical pratices to cast spells.

A familiar is also a companion. Death doesn't stop the pet from being with you. I think they are always there, more so if you and the pet had a special relationship. I like to think most people with pets have that special bond, which goes beyond death.

I don't really know much on this subject but I can honestly say my cat is like a brother to me. And yes, animals love more than a human ever could. My cat seems to know when spirits are near and comforts me by giving warnings if the spirits are out to harm me or not. A very nifty thing to have really when in situations like those.

I strongly believe in familiers. My bestfriend and loyal conpanion Sabastion died about5 years ago. I didnt find out he was one of my spiritual familiers until 2 weeks ago when my circle and I did a meditation. I was so overwelmed that I started to cry. If any of you have a familier, alive or passed away, dont be afraid to lean on it in a time of need. They are stong and will never let you down!

I have not had a dear pet die. . . as of yet. But if my feline was to die I know that she would still be with me in spirit.

I really am happy to read some of the comments you all have left. I hope that you will keep this subject close to your heart and remember when a beloved pet crosses over. It is a time or sorrow, terrible gut wrenching emptiness, but...once the grieving is softened,if you will, you are going to be more in tune to your faithful one's spirit! Loyalty from beyond...

I believe that the spirit can remain . I raised my dog from day one and when he was hit by a car and died I could still here him snoring just outside my bedroom window where he always slept for at least a year

My greyhound Folly recently passed away in november and yet when i continue to walk my other two dogs you can almost feel her trotting along ahead of you. I beleive she will always be with me as she gave me the best 15 years of my life. my other 15 year old dog of whom had the pleasure to know her also will never sleep in follys old bed or invade follys old space. Its kind of like a sign of respect and i even still talk to her.

My pet gray squirrel, Rockie died on Valentine's Day last year. I still feel his presense everyday. I hope to see him again when I cross the Rainbow Bridge.

VERY interesting topic Zaddi! I do agree with you that the spirit of a deceased pet stays around longer than a human spirit. I had a dog pass away from liver cancer in November '03 and every now and then I still feel her spirit.

Also on that same note, if a human loved one has passed away could they possibly have part of their spirit reincarnated as a pet? After my dad passed away last March it seems like the dog I have now(who's 3) took on part of dad's personality and when I look in his eyes I see my dad. I don't know, maybe I'm just weird? :-p

My dog Babaloo I believe was reincarnated in to my now puppy Schizophrenic... they never met and yet they are alot alike. Schizo is my familiar in this world but when I meditat I have one there too a fox which also looks like babaloo now that I think of it, so I guess shes a little bit of everwhere.

Well I have a spirit guid all my life ever since i could remember.. They have always protected me from harm.....and death itself......I should of died years ago in a car crash that completely crushed the driver side of the car and thrown the engine right into my lap and the car fliped 6 time before hitting a light pole and wrapping around it....I climbed out of the car from the drivers seat with all that in my lap but i had not a single scratch bruse broken bones anything i walked away from the crash like it never happened at all.. I was shaken up a bit because of the adrinline from everything that was going on but i was completly unharmed in any way......Things like this has happened all the time around me so there has to be something there for you who dont belive in such things but i know for a fact that there are spirits among us who watch over us and protect us in different ways.....I am guess from what you are is they type of guardian you will have and depeneding on how you and your spirit guide are close and what type of relationship you have with them. I have grown up comuncating with mine we would talk for hours when i was a small child and I have learned lots from them because i listen and care not if people thought i was crazy because i coudl see and respond to something that they did not or can not see.. The only problem I have with it is the fact I have no control over this ability and it comes and goes as it pleases......

The natives believe in spirit guides that help them though out everyday living, in witch I have had experiences with. I also have felt the presents of a family cat that had passed about a yr ago. feeling his presents lying next to me when I lye down to sleep. It was very comforting feeling, I wasn't scared at all.

I do beleive they do, as some times you can feel like a cat for exemple rubing its furr against your legg and there is no one. Or when a bird that was not there is suddenly there then gone after you ave moved from a danger, or found what or who you are searching for.

Any animal of any species can present itself as your familiar. In fact, the form your familiar chooses to take may be a message in itself, and may be completely unexpected. Familiars can fill many different roles in your life, including that of teacher, friend, healer or assistant. My personal familiar (which I have tattooed on my right shoulder blade) is a dolphin. I felt drawn to them for thier grace, intelligence, and beauty.

I have a cat that is my familiar. She and I have a very special bond. I hand rasied her from birth. Feed by eye dropper and cleaned her very day with a warm wash cloth. She is now 9 years old. She sleeps on my pillow with me. And gives me kisses. I love her more than I have ever love any human besides my child and hubby.

Someone mentioned that they thought their pet may have reincarnated from a pet who has passed. This really is possible, I believe. The name I have, Tzaddi means the star, as in the heavens. I had a beautiful cat named Tzaddi, who passed away about 5 years ago. I recently got one of my twins(boys) a kitten because his little kitten got a hold of those awful peanuts used for shipping. They are POISON so beware! She died. Everyone loved the kitten. When he moved out, he took his baby with him. Well, we were really missing that kitten, so we decided to go to the pound and see if there was one in need of a home. There were many cats, and one black kitten, but nothing clicked. As I came around the final corner,basicaslly giving up, I saw an entire litter of long haired white kittens! I freaked out, because I always wanted a white kitten like Tzaddi, even though she could never be replaced. I squatted down to see them, and this one looked right at me, and came over to the glass. I wanted that one! I knew she was for me! I told them she was the one I wanted. They told me her name was Star. My eyes started to water, because I was thinking of Tzaddi. Tzaddi, the Star! Well, I have named my new baby girl Nee Chee, and she is the best cat friend I have. If any of you know me, or have read my profile, you know I am a major cat lover! Nee Chee and I are so close, it's amazing. I don't know for sure if she is Tzaddi, the personalities are different. But the love and the bond is as strong as it was (or is) with Tzaddi. "sniff"

i believe a pet and his person never part in spirit (if the bond is strong enough to begin with). i know that i can feel the presence of my dog jack who died two years ago of bone cancer. and i often sense my 4 months deceased cat at night.

I can't say I have had any personal experiences in this area, but I have known a person whom I believe to be credible in general that believes in animal familiars completely and has some strange stories to tell. Who am I to say what's possible really.

i think it is possible but not necessarily provable that pets will return to guide you.

I had a small dog, Sheba. She passed away 3 years ago and still is with me. My big dog, Juneau plays with her from time to time. If I ask,"Where's Sheba?" He'll look somewhere and stare.

I have animal guides.. but none of them were pets... they are ... I am not sure they were ever truely animals or if thisis simply the form they opt to appear in.

Yes I do believe that a beloved pet always stays with you. Peanut is still here and she enjoys scaring the heck out of me and other people who doubt me when I tell them that she's there. She's a naughty kitty!

I do believe in the existance of the Animal Companion.. i am after all, a Druid. I know that when i die, my animals will be waiting to greet me, and we will play fetch for all eternity.. *smiles*

I have an interesting story.. a good friend of mine, Chlorr, was killed in an accident.. a few days later, i was walking home from class, and i had noticed a cat was following me.. i stop, pet it, and continue.. it follows me to my home, and i invite it in. The cat makes itself right at home, and i smile and think it cute.

My sister comes into the room as says that she can sense Chlorr somewhere near, which was odd, but then i realised i could too, and we both looked at the cat.. and i guess the pieces came together.

Needless to say, the cat has not left.

I have a couple of animal helpers that are with me at all times and others that come for a while to teach me a life lesson or two and then are gone

Yes I knwo what you are talking about.. I lost my pet and companion.. Her name was Whiskey... She was my Husky.. I still feel her.. She visits my dreams.. But I still mourn her loss.. I miss her so very much...

my animal companion is my basenji Rocky

I don't think she's my guide but my very first cat Angel, whom I had to put to sleep, is still with me. She was a fine tabby and I couldn't have asked for a more loyal feline. Although I have another love right now, named Killer, I will never replace Angel.

also to add to myt last post....i feel some sort of spiritual connection to my companion in that i think that i can feel what he feels and he can understand my feelings and thoughts

I was raised around animals all of my life and believe very much in familiars. Right now I have a small dog which is my daughter's familiar. She can't be gone from home long(out with family members) without it searching throughout the house and yard for her.

The only pet that I ever had that was lost to me was my pet iguana named Dragon. So far however, I haven't felt anything and he's been dead for a few years now.

AJReynolds, that is kind of understandable! Tose guys aren't quite what we would say as warm and fuzzy! You never know though!

yes i believe that a pets love is more effectionate. but they tend to dominate and r picky as to who they show their affection 4.

well sometimes at night when im all alone there are these sounds theyre really loud they come from outside my room so i go and check it out and nothing its weird it only happens when nobody is in the house except me... does anyone have the same feelings ????

I wish I had a familiar for companionship and, sort of an energy. I used to have one, and I could draw some energy from her, even just the reassurance and comfort. She died a few years ago, and I miss having that companionship. I have not been able to find another close animal friend yet, but we'll see what happens in the future. As for spirit companions, they are nice for me, but they are also hard to keep track of because they come and go so easily.

i am personal friends with two dragons a fire elemental a phenix an angel and a demon pluse a few other things. that being the case i belive in familars in a way though not as most would be belive they acept us and help us as we need it and what not that is the truth to that one and some times yes when a pet dies it dose stick arround to help the person that it was with

I had a chihuahua and she was my dearest and my best-est friend. She died of cancer in the heart, lung and brain and at the very end I always held her and loved on her. She had seizures in the night and i would wake up 1 minute exactly before her seizures. I believe she still watches over me. One night I was driving home at 2:00 a.m. in the morning, I fell asleep at the wheel. I had a dream there was a dog in front of me and i woke up just in time to move before I would have hit the garbage container in the middle of the road, i believe i have my dog to thank for that.

I believe love transcends anything, including death.My beloved dog diet last sept. and I know I can hear his tags jingling sometimes when I come home from work.As I always did when he was alive. I find it comforting to know my old boy is still around me.

I think if you have a bond with your pet, it will stay with you and visit you after death. My mother had a dog in childhood that she still sees running by once in a while.

I think that a pet can become a familiar or a gaurdian if you had a close bond witrh it. My dog passed away and I always have drems about him. I think it is him trying to make contact with me. It also lets me know that we are still together.

My family had a puppy, who very sadly died only 5 months after we got him (he got out on accident and was hit by a truck). Occasionally, when I am alone in my room, I will hear a soft barking noise and dog tags jingling. The first time it happened was right after we got our second dog. I thought I was just hearing her, so I went upstairs and found her sound asleep, not making any noise. When I went back down to my room, I felt a soft bump on my leg and then heard the tags again. At that point I knew that Jericho was still hanging out with me, and would come around from time to time. *smiles* I miss him, but I know he's still with me, and watches over the family still.

I dont have one specific familiar. I am drawn and care for all animals.

I've had my dog, Cosmo for the last nine years, I grew up with him, he was there during the most difficult times of my life. Each time he's there to comfort me, I feel as if the connection between us grows stronger than any connection I have with a human. He calms me and I draw strength from he when I'm at my weakest. If he isn't my familiar, then I don't know what a familiar is.

My niece got a rabbit for her 6th Birthday and we very strongly believed it was her "familiar". She passed away a few months ago at age 11 from Leukemia.. when the family got home from the hopsital.. the rabbit had passed as well. He was a completely healthy rabbit.. and we think she just wanted to take him with her so she wasn't alone..

I like familiars in concept and in practice they are very close and loving animals that like to help you with whatever magic you happen to be doing. Also it allows you to closer to you pets.

Not sure, I am close to all animals though and am able to just about tame even a wild wolf by crouching down and staring it in the face. Anyone with an explanation for this please message me.

well my dog died when i was about 3 - so you wouldn't think id really remember much about him but sometimes i just feel that he would be laying on me or letting mr giv him a fuss when i dont feel well and stuff like that so yeah i think pets that have gone are still with us.

You know I have never thought of it, but I do have my pets Urn and take it with me.. I havent found a place special enough to lay him to rest ..

I was with my last two pets when i had to put them down. I felt their spirit leave and felt the calmness of the soul as it left.
I felt them around me as i grieved for them, but as I began to heal I felt them less and less. I know I have a special way with animals and at times think that my dogs are my familiars as they are always there for me.

yes a bond between human and their pets are really strong they share feelings and try to get each other out of things that are bad and they try to chear up each other when life isn't going the way you think it should I know how it feels I had two familiars both at the same time and at the same time where riped away from them and when I needed them the most they where doth dos and I loved them both the first one was with my form the time I was born I even played with her pups and she died two years ago and then my other one my parents gave away while I was gone visting my aunt and I came back and she was gone and in her place was a cat that didn't even like me then we got another cat and she became my new familar and we never left eachothers side but then she was ripped away from me again by my parents they said that we couldn't afored her and we gave away all of our animals and I am sad because I need some one who understands me and know I don't know what to do

i had to put asleep my puppy nearly 15 years now and still i talk about him as if he is still alive. i also have a pic of him in my room. i still dream that i am with him running in the woods and green areas. i feel a close relationship with my fiance's puppy our little princess.

Well, when I was young I started to see spirits but my parents didnt believe me. The family dog got hit by a car a little after Christmas. And well, the next day after his death I could hear him bark and sneeze and do dog things. When I told my parents that his spirit was around they didnt believe me and he well went away.
We moved into this house not even a full year ago and well, I would see and hear cats moving around. One night it was about four or five am I heard a cat get hit by a car and then voices of a man and woman outside my window. The man said; "The cat is dead...." I instantly got up and looked out the window where I had heard them talking and I saw no one there. After I climbed into bed I heard the cat's cry again.
After this happening I told my boyfriend and a few other people and since then I havent seen any of the cats I did when I first moved in here.
Most of the spirits that I do see are Humans or if not Humans they look like it and Ive become friends with them but meh!

Yes, one of my old dogs, still is around at my parents place, I can feel her there.
