Like it is possible to prove any of this stuff? In my religion the origin of Vampyres is shrouded in the myths and legends of predynastic Khem, even prior to Seti I. The Cthonic Goddess Lilitu, also known as Lillith, and the supressed "forbidden" God Set are responsible for the race of Vampyres. This predates any other origin claim.

Since we're all agreeing on Lilith, are we talking fictional vampires then?

I'm asking because I'd like to know if you're wanting our opinion on the first fictional vampire or the first real vampire?

I believe that vampires existed way before lillith. You can see in many cultures that date back way before then the similarities of vampires. They were considered gods and required either human or animal sacrifices to appease them. When Christianity came about most religions were wiped out, sacrifices ceased to exist and the gods were no more. In my opinion I think that the "blood gods" of each cultures were actual vampires.

I'm not sure, but I remember one day looking around the net and finding a pretty neat article saying that vampirism may have started with Cain and Abel. Though I can't remember what it said exactly, it was a good source of symbolism. Abel being the human and Cain the Vampire. Shadowed by God, and brotheren to human.

Such limited perceptions- all founded in western concepts of religious experience and fantasy.

These are the ideas which propogate the false understanding of what it means to be a vampire. Build your castles in the sand, for it is all the easier to knock them down.

Present these ideas to the public, the media and the ridiculing laughter will never cease to ring in your ears.

With this subject, as well as most topics that touch upon ancient history, there is no proof of who the first vampire was. It's hard to obtain proof of something that pre-dates any form of record keeping.

I couldn't even guess who the first was, I've heard far too many legends to make a guess. I'm fairly certain that it wasn't Lilith though.

Lillith..where does She come from? Prehistoric era, eighth ce before the common era. Thats ten-thousand years ago. She is the first woman, to be created by God according to the Hebrews who wrote the Book. But was she already there, before Adam? Could be She is not human at all, but is able to take the form of one, as a Succubus. And maybe the Serpent who offered the apple to Eve, could that be Lillith too? These myths are found in Hebrew, and represent a very ancient origin. A possible source may be found in the Pagan Hebrew mythology.
The Cain and Abel story is from the White Wolf Vampire "history" for VtM.

there is a large possibilities as to who or what was the first (vampire) since all evidence only implies and there is no direct Yes or No answer everyone has to go with what they believe but personally i am quite the skeptic on to who was the dirst vampire and of what their origin would have been i even wonder if they had their own language...personally i always felt that vampires might have originated in a area close to romania or hungary

i am havving a hard time believing that lilith could actually be the first vampire..i'm not saying it's not a possibility i just can't see it in my mind happening... i think the actual first vampire could not be recorded because at the time maybe there was no such thing as a written language i think it could of even taken place before hyroglyphs as well.i think we can only asume who was the first vampire..it has to be more like a belief rather than a real proof of evidence.

The origin of the Vampyre is obscured by the mists of time. References to myths and legends, and some scriptural notations are our only way of creating our own story of how or when we came into being. It is xepher, of becomming, that leads us to enlightenment.
The Eastern European origin theory of Vampyres is a comparitivly recent theory, maybe from the first millenium c.e. It would be reasonable to believe that Vampyres evolved from the same area of the world as humans, and that would be between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in what is now Irac. The cultures of Khem (Egypt), Babylon, and Assyria were involved in Vampyre evolution, and are among the oldest known. From these , I believe, did evolve the Vampyre/Demon/Seccubus known today.

The Lilith theory comes from a comic book and the cain theory comes from a role playing game. The word vampire didnt even exsist in Vlad's time much less the other two so that makes proving who was the first more difficult. More than likely it was some prehistoric person that either ate anything he/she killed including other humans or that drank the blood of his/her enemies to gain their strength.

the first "vampire" would be hard to find as it was probably a pre-historic being and their is few reliable records of vampires in ancient times of such things. Although the sources for Lilith includes(but is not limited to) a comic book, and Cain includes(and yet again not limited to) a role playing game does not mean it is not possible.

It would also be difficult to find as "Vampire" is a fairly new term.

i have to say that i think lilith is purely demoness and like iv'e mentioned before not a vampire as she consumed people by the so called kiss of death....i think as well that the first vampire and any evidence of it's existance is far lost now..everything from this point i believe would have to be only speculations and nothing more..as to the word vampire i am not sure as to when the term fisrts started being used...but when i think of vampire i think of someone who is awakened with carnal desires and urges for blood and life source.

Personally I don't believe there is an answer to your question and there fore no one can produce the proof your asking for blood creep. Not unless someone can invent a method where we can turn back time and observe life from the beginning all we can do is theorise and guess as to who the first vampire was.

Each civilaviation has stories/myths about vamps. So it is very hard to choose who came first and the proof is even harder to come by.

If you follow books like that of Nod or Revelations of the Dark Mother then either Caine or Lilith is your top choice.

I love to do research so I will still search for all those unansered questions.

well we all know there is such a thing a "the first vampire" it's just who and we all personally tend to go with one story over another...but now what makes me wonder is..how did it come about that the first vampire existed..is it possible that it could of been the big boom theory or was there some type of universal changes that awakened a higher darker power to creat such a being as we now know as "vampire"
and in fact if and "i believe there was" a first vampire then how and or who had thee abilities to creat such a awsome being..

I dont think this vampire play didnt came until Vlad's time. When the body is missing that is what started the believe of the vampire legend. Bram Stoker just bring the vampire idea back into the society to resurrect the vampiric believes. And its throught his books that kept Vlad alive all this time. I say it safe to assume that Vlad's vampire is the first. Without Vlad and Bram's help there would be no vampires into our society as we know it.

I know that Lucifer was the first demon plus along with his other followers as they come down in lighting from the heavens.
The first new born earth is empty no humans and no animals the ever lived. Nothing.
So what did they demons eat? I say they feed on each other. Gaining another demons powers making a more stronger one. Its possible that lilith was part of the demonic feeding grounds. Thats my belief. Thus leaving Lilith and Lucifer the last of the mortal demons. Till they meet up with the first immortal humans.

For Wolvie - During Vlad's time the word vampire did exist because while I was visiting there since my mother is a historian we excavted and found many ancient scripts describing a vampire. We also talked to many of the villengers and they told of stories from their great great grandparents of Vlad Dracul being a vampire.

I believe there is no real way of knowing who the first vampire-like creature was or when the vampire was first created. Sort of like the god-problem we have today.

No one alive today knows for sure when their gods were created nor who created them. Anything we can image today is subjectional and any proof is impossible to find and would be deemed mere conjecture.

It would be wonderful if we could find the answers we so notoriously seek, but such things are not meant for mortal man to know.

Depends on your religion. In the Judeo-Christian (including Muslim) tradition, it would be Lilith or Cain. Lilith is usually the "Mother of Demons" and a Succubus, while Cain's curse from god is sometimes thought to be the mark of Vampirism.

The Book of Nod and Erciyes Fragments from the V:tM mythology do a good job of explaining it, and they got most of their ideas from adaptiong pre-existing mythology. Even they can't really agree on which was first. The Vampires called themselves "Cainites" for thousands of years, but there is a belief that the first was actually Lilith, who turned him from a sursed and shunned man into a full-blown Vampire.

Personally, being raised Catholic and reading mythology from that point of view, I have to say Cain. But Lilith obviously deserves a place in it too, though I tend to agree more with the Jewish tradition that sees her as the Mother of Incubi and Succubi than a Vampire. She took her rage at God and Adam for being rejected and turned it into a millenia-old vendetta against men and children- since she was denied either.

Also think its interesting to note that she was rejected by Adam for her insistence that they hole equal sexual rights and his refusal to allow it. Basically it all comes down to an argument over who would be on top.

For DrakPrincess - I already know that the word vampire did exist in Vlad's time, I never said that it didn't.

And "Vampire" (or Vampyr) isn't a Romanian word, they call them "Strigoi".

Its an english corruption of Upir, which I think is Slavic.

DrakPrincess vampire is an english word and thus would not have been used to describe Vlad by his countrymen at that time. Vlad was alive during the mid to late 1400's and the 1st documented use of the word vampire isn't until almost 300 years later in 1725. source: wikipedia.org

Blood creep I think its obvious that vampire history has become lost and obscure from time. There are civilizations that have become lost and forgotten due to the sands of time, and have become myth and legend. Perhaps its possible that Vampires come from this missing part of our history and sadly will never be unearthed.

I have been to the home of Count Vlad... He WAS and DIED as a person, not a vampire, not a god, nothing but a crazy person. His life and times tell of him as a crazy man that killed thousands of his own people from his castle. This is all true and has been documented. If you are interested in more of this information look up history of Vlad the Impalor. The term vampire was originally used for description purposes of the blood sucking bats from Europe that spread rabies and other blood transferable diseases. Vlad the Impalor is not a myth. He was a true man, crazy and psychotic. He would bath in the blood of the people he killed thinking it would extend his time on earth. Of course the blood did not helped when he was killed for his actions. Short history lesson from my time in Europe at his home in 2003. I also have some awesome photos from the castle. To get into the castle you have to get on a waiting list. We got lucky and got in three days in a row. This man, was crazy and in no way a vampire. Vampiristic lifestyle and you could credit him for that, but actually a vamp... nope not at all.

You asked for detailed:

The first vampire EVER is named Amadi, and is still alive today. I know that few, if any, of you have heard of him, but that's probably because he is so ancient.

He was born in Egypt, and is in his mid-10,000's, though he appears to be no older than 20.

Amadi was the leader of a pretty good-sized army, and when their land succumbed to the desert, they went in search of more fruitful land to conquer.

Amadi and his army had trekked for months, but no land came in sight. Many had died, and Amadi himself was dying. Amadi begged for the god Anubis to let him and his people live, so that they might eventually find land. Anubis agreed, and even steered them in the right direction.

With renewed strength, Amadi and his remaing people conquered the city Anubis had shown them, and praised him greatly.

Anubis came to Amadi and told him that because of his and his people's faith, he would permit them eternal life, and two other forms. The only way to kill one of Amadi's people was to decapitate them.

Anubis was praised even more for this, but there was more: If Amadi and his people ever lost control of the land he had granted them, Anubis would no longer accept them as his children, and they must do all in their power to reclaim both the land and the gods' favor.

Amadi and his people were quite isolated, and lived many centuries in peace as they flourished and the population grew. THen came the Romans. The Romans had heard of the Anubis Clan, or Anubisi, and quickly sought out a way to destroy them.

The Romans managed to slaughter all but twelve of the vampires, thirteen if you include Amadi. Amadi and the other dozen fled their city, and fled Egypt, leaving their beloved city to the hands of the Romans.

As promised, Anubis no longer answered the prayers of Amadi and his remaining people. Neither did any other god or goddess, who had respected Anubis's wish and ignored the Anubisi completely.

Serket finally took pity on them, and told Amadi secretly, while Anubis was sleeping, that he and his people must train hard if they ever wished to see their city again.

So Amadi and his people traveled over the world, heeding Serket's advice, and began to train. To this day they are still training, oblivious that their city has long been destroyed, and there is no hope to reclaim the gods' favor.

The one who bathed in blood to stay young was Elisabeth Bathory, not Vlad Tepes. Vlad impaled and drank the blood of his enemies (the Ottoman Turks) as a terror tactic, and used fear to keep his rebellious subjects (of Wallachia, not Transylvania) in line. He just happens to have been one of the more brutal rulers in an extremely brutal age and area. And hes mainly remembered in the west based on Hungarian and German propoganda against him, not the most reliable sources to base a character study on.

BTW, he is a national hero in Romania, not a murderous psychopath. You have to remember his time and place to judge him, as you have to do with any medieval or rennaissance personage. You can't ascribe 21st century western morals and standards to someone from a completely different time and place.

Hmm, seeing as how Lilith is the most well believed answer. I would like to enlighten you to what it means to say that she was the first.
1. Lilith, at least the Lilith most of you are talking about, was a person written about in a book that most of us disagree with. The bible. So by saying that, we are accepting that thought that the bible is real and God is who he is. Now, I shouldn't hear any of those people say that they are Wiccans, because the Wiccan religion dates back farther than the Christian religion. Also, The Book of Nod is a gaming book, not a true work.
2. I have yet to be proven that the first vampire wasn't born 50 years ago. Much less millions of years ago. Sorry but none of us have any proof of who or when. If you think you do, please tell me. I would love a good debate. Also know that for every ancient civilization, there was one before that.

All in all, the first vampire will probably remain a mystery until the end of time.

NeptunexofxAnubis,

I find your response to be avoidant, non-commital and ill-defined, since I have no idea what 'your kind' are and frankly, I think that this is as close a good piece of fiction as I have seen on VR for some weeks.

NeptunexofxAnubis:

I was ready to jump for joy at the idea that somone finally had something original to say, and possibly something tangible. But, like stabb, I thought your response to his request for reference was one of avoidance. I spent a good portion of today attempting to locate any information on this "Amadi" character that you have brought in to play, but have been unable to find any mention of him at all. If this being truly existed, or does still exist, surely there must be some reference to him somewhere. I'm sure that you wouldn't mind filling us in on where we can find such reference, if it is actually existent.

Just because this is the 21st century that does not make Vlad any less of a murderer than some of the rulers we call cruel in our days. But I thank you for bringing my attention to the drinking blood. But I am positive that he had a bath he would bath in. Supposedly he did become crazy, maybe it was the blood he drank.

there have been many first vampires across time. there has been a first vampire in every nation where there is vampires today. for all that we know there could be many first vampires that all originated at the same time. there could have been a first vampire before all others that denied his or her thirst and died before the first vampire drank blood. i think it is more of a question of who was the first to drink blood because there have been many first vampires.

Just my opinion, but as vampirism is so widespread in different cultural folklore, it seems to me to be impossible for their to be only one source, and so no real "first" vampire.

well in regards to that,it makes you wonder what culture did the first vampire exist in then and why did they choose to inahbit a certian region instead of another...to my best of opinions i believe that there most likely is no such documentation of the first vampire, only asumptions but one canoot still wonder from wherest did the bloodline of vampires first start.

Well going by culture, the fact that the continents were once one kind of expels the thought that folklore was only in certain areas and not others. 95% of all cultures had ties to other cultures. In a sense, where ever one thinks that the myths first started would be incorrect. Take the Salem witch hunts, someone had to know some folklore to call another a witch. So obviously, someone had to know what a vampire was, to call someone a vampire.
