Sort of on the topic of dreams having meaning, for the ones that do believe in it, i was wondering.......

I know its a "gift" to be able to see further into your own future or the future of others through dreams and premenitions. And a lot of people would love to have this ability.

but my question to you is how do you make it stop? why is it that the ones blessed with it dont always want it?

What i mean is that sometimes i really love having this gift but then there are times that i just dont think i can handle it. I think for me the deciding line of wanting and not was watching my brother die just before he did. now thats not something i ever want to go through again i mean once is hard enough but to see your loved ones leave you twice is horrible and inhumane. i dont want it to go away forever but i would like to know how to control it so that i can only see what i want to see.

I have this same issue.....somehow I don't think it can be controlled. If it can be though, I am definitely open to hearing how.

Like everything in life, you must take the bad with the good. You can't make it stop, it's been gifted to you. Some things are just irreplaceable I guess. You just have to find a way to deal with it, there's really no other explanation.

Unfortunately as far as I know it is something you cannot control or stop, it comes to you at will. As for why people have it but don't want it. I think it is just simply they are more in tune to their psychic side compared to others. We all are psychic just others are more open to it than some. Like any skill others can do it some are just better at it.

From my opinion, It is autonomic.. it is like the path of Life.. you can't stop it.. But perhaps you can change it... Maybe it is trying to tell you something..

I had re-curring dreams and signs ALL the time. I EVEN had a spirit speak to me thru a medium to tell me to MAKE a change.. and change my situation.
I did change something.. for the ABSOLUTE better.. and the dreams stopped, once my psyche grew in strength again...
try to understand what your dreams are saying.. it is your sub-conscious after all! I'm speaking from experience.

You cannot really stop it as you don't really know exactly when its going to hit you, it'll probably be at the most inappropriate times in your life when you really want nothing more to go wrong with you, however it could be a false dream/premonition so it could never happen.......you never know.....

Heavy medication and/or alcohol may stop them. Of course, a reliance on those substances for a lengthy period of time will result in other problems!

Paxil stopped my dreams. Ask your doctor, maybe this is what you need. Although dreams may have meaning, usually they only have the meaning of what you hold inside your head. It could be real or imagination.

Try changing your sleeping location or even the direction you point (put your bed on another wall of the room even). I've found (and seen references to in studies after I'd already done it) that even such simple changes can effect how your mind works when it sleeps.

Currently, my head points east when I sleep and I have no abnormal or disturbing dreams. North and south were about the same for me, the occasional oddball or de-ja-vu experience. West was a lot of nightmares and fitful sleep.

Everyone is attuned differently, but thats how it falls out for me. Give it a try, it may work for you too.

I believe if you receive a warning or premonition of something bad, you may be able to prevent this from happening. You have seen it coming, and with precautionary measures, and avoiding the place of the incident, you may prevent it! Always be one step ahead if you have the sight.

Seeing the future in dreams is a gift, much like any other number of gifts that people are blessed with. Many times, lack of understanding and ability to control the gift causes a resentment. One wonders why one was gifted with this cursed ability.

However, there is a bright side as well. The more one harnesses a gift, the better control one may have over it. If you experience dreams that are unsettling or indicate the future and don't like having them, you should be aware you may not have a choice.

If this is the case, the best thing to do for yourself is to learn as much about dreaming as you can. Read books about it. Keep a journal. And learn to control and live with it.

Seeing the future in dreams is a gift, indeed. Learn to use it as such and it will become less of a curse.

oh cynthia... i wish i knew what to tell u. as i have this issue too. i have been told that there is no stopping it and that we should accept it as a gift. but with all gifts it can also be seen as a curse. my best advice to u would be to not let it bother u. during the times when u wish to turn it off, jus let it go. stop thinking about it (no matter how hard it is) and relax. try meditating. try coloring. playing video games, reading. anything at all. thats what i do . i dont let it bother me when it starts too.

it will always pop back up every now and again. but its psychosymatic. ( however u spell that) u can control it if u believe u can. once u decide to let whatever thought u have go... then u work on not letting it come back. u control ur thoughts.

i'd like to thank every one for their input on this topic. even though there really isnt anyway that anyone has posted to stop it. i feel alot better knowing that im not the only one out there that is wondering about this. and that im not the only person who has looked into stopping it.

I probably wont stop looking for a way to stop these premanitions, but as for now i will be looking at more ways to help change my feelings towards them.

The only way I know of controlling it is too build psychic shields that are very impervious. Visualizing a sphere of diamond around you would cut you off unless you visualize a door or window you can open. Be careful doing this as the stronger shields are difficult to open when one wants to experience the astral plane. You may want to start with visualization of more permeable materials then increase the strength until the desired effect is reached.

Another thought is at this link.

answering the second question first- some people don't want the gift because it is too much of a burden. it is like beng a doctor; you feel responsible for all of your patients or, in this case, subjects of your vision. if you lose even a single fight you feel like you have failed miserably. what you have to realize is that you can't help everyone. i think one way to temporarily postpone this gift is to simply clear your hed for a while. it sounds easy, but it is not. you would have to be somewhere in which you are completely at ease where you aren't reminded of anything else. you would have to be isolated from everything that you know.

Considering that this is a subject known very little about, I'm surprised how many experts there actually appear to be!

If you would like a change in your mental pattern concerning premonitions and visions while you are awake or asleep, Cynthia, You might want to try this: Keep one journal for dreams, and research lucid dreaming and practicing it (http://www.lucidity.com is a good site to get you started with lots of links on it); Next, try meditating at least twice a day (though if you want to get somewhere fast, more practice equals better and more consistent results) and here's a blog on the importance of self-control in meditation: finally, you may record and basic dietary habits just to notice specific changes when some things occur. I think it might be fully controllable psychologically, it's just a matter of figuring out exactly what to do.

Now, if all else fails, invoke Fotamecus and just try to have less bad things happen to you so they won't drive you insane.
:-)

I have that gift too and actually, I hate the crap out of it. I saw my bro die a couple weeks before he actually did, and I didn't do anything because in my dream he was in a different place when he died than when he actually did die.

I don't know to get rid of it myself, I just havent had any dreams like that since then. So, I am not sure if it was the last one. All I did, was not accept it.

I wouldnt call mysefl an expert on the topic but I would say that how does one stop a gift that is natually given to them im not sure if a person can really do that at all. I guess the other way to stop using it is literally stop doin whatever it is that is causin you to use that gift in the first place.

I have noticed alot of "bad" premonitions. Does anyone have good one? But sticking to the subject, I really do suggest if you want to stop getting these thoughts and feelings, meditation. Try working on singling one thing out at a time and going from there.

One way would be to not sleep...but that wouldnt help much..another way would probably to just stop excersising your gift. Just like any muscle, you stop training it, it becomes less prominent. By doing this you may lose the bad, but also the good...its really up to u.

People with the 'gift' don't want it because they, most of the time, have no control over what they see or whether or not they can wake up.

When I have dreams where I see things in the near future, I can't wake up even though I try and other people can't wake me up either. I have to let it play out.

But another reason is the fact they have to see the bad things, as well as the good. I still have the dream I dreamed the night before my father passed away. It included everything from when I was woken up in the morning to the time I had a relapse of self-harm that evening. It is horrible when you relive something like that twice, let alone over and over again.

As for controlling it, I have begun my battle with learning to control mine. It's possible, or I believe it is at least. I have had a little bit of success but the dreams still get through. "But where there is a will, there is a way!"

I am not really certain that there is a way to "stop" the dreams or visions.. they are an ability that should be used and considered a gift... yes it sometimes can be viewed as a curse, due to the fact that you may see things that you don't want to see, but don't consider it a bad thing..

I don't think you can make it go away permanently or that you should... I know it sucks but I believe you should just deal with it... Ignoring your gift could resolve in making it go away but for me this is wrong.

Meditate and concetrate on how to control it. Make clear to yourself that you do not mant to see any more deaths before they happen... It is what some others called programming your brain...

Don't deny what you are and what you can do... Don't deny a part of yourself. Just make it work in harmony with all the other parts...

I do not think that you can stop the dreams or premonitions. If they are coming to you then thy are coming to you for a purpose, so do not try to stop them.

I would try a mediatation and shielding ritual before u lay down.Every evening, and since this will become a ritual, yer mind and body will know to shield and buffer as this becomes part of yer nightly routine.
