I was reading a friends journal. I have to say I'm quite torn to find out that she is very sick, and has gone through much in life that I have as well. I've gotten an energy from this that I've felt before. Knowing and recognizing the feeling. I know that I've recieved and am feeling some of the negative energy that is flowing from her every word. This doesn't happen often, to the point that I'm in such deep sorrow.
I found Myself enraged, but at the same time holding back that rage in order to be able to write some words of comfort and encouragment to her. I would like to know if any of you have felt this from a sick family member, friend, or loved one? What emotions, or energy did you obtain?
Sounds like you became very Empathic.
For me, it depends on the situation, but if it is someone I care about. I will feel a burning rage, but I am able to channel that to an energy in which to take action to help. I am fiercely Loyal to my friends & Family, and I will do anything to help them.
I also think one step ahead, and I think of others before I put the action in to motion.
I feel their emotions and their Pain.
I get a terrible pain in my chest when i become aware someone Is hurting about something. It doesn't usually go away until I know what exactly it is.
You could be feeling something entirely different from what I am about to describe, but mayeb you are feeling remorse because a loved one (or someone that you are close with) is experiencing pain or going through alot of difficult problems or something like that, I think that this is more likely that getting negative energy from someone. Maybe you are picking up on their emotions and feeling the same as they are.
i understand your feelings. i dont have or had any such person but i have seen my friend suffering from that trauma while his mother was ill for so long and totally bedridden.she was ill for about two years before she died.
Yes, I am the same way. I can always sense when a friend is bummed out because I suddenly can feel what they are feeling . . . no matter how far away they are.
When someone becomes so close to another being, I think there is a strong bond that connects the two. There is a difference between empathy and sympathy, and sympathy can come in many different forms. To feel pain or anger for anyone when they are hurting, is just a true sign that you love them.
Yeh i get that with either family or close friend's especially my bvest friend Jade i know when somethings up even when i haven't even met up with her yet. I get a great lurching feeling in my gut and i know it's Jade, i get it with my mom too. And usually this feeling turns into a burning rage like some on here have said, and it doesn't go away until the problem has been resolved or at least tried to be sorted out. It sounds like you may be an empath or have similar characteristics as one.
Yes, empathy. I am empathic- but I am still apprehensive about so many people in this world saying they are too. No, I am not better than anyone else... don't get me wrong- being empathic just seems to be a big trend these days. Being in my 30s, I have never heard of it so much in my life as I have since the 'new millenium'.
I have yet to meet someone in person who feels and reacts to things the way I do- but online... they're countless.
I think you just felt bad about what your friend is going through...
Empathy, whether a psychic or simply emotional response is always a good thing. I feel exactly the same way when one of my friends or family is hurting. It's like getting stabbed right in the soul.
It also galvanizes me to do everything in my power to help them, no matter what the problem is. Good for you, for comforting your friend the best you could even while you were hurting. The world needs more of that.
I've always felt what others feel. Some more so then others and the face that some people hide the true feelings, means it's harder to feel what they feel.
my emotions are so high and peaked that even the slightest pain some one close to me feels i feel it to i cant control it
alot of people can feel the pain of others and also alot have a great deal of compassion as well as Empathy for them
When you care about someone, I believe it is normal to feel emphatic and considerate to their feelings and needs..
The written word, even through an electronic medium (Internet), conveys the emotions of the author. Empathy, sympathy and association are abilities most people have to a degree.
In direct response I have on many occassions felt the pain and or joy of those around me and in some cases those miles away. As people we are all connected on a base level. This can be verified through any number of spiritual beliefs but also through certian physics. I think that it is a wonderful ability that enables us to feel what others feel so we can help them in a more specific and personal manor.
I have that with certain persons, one person in perticular is so link the when it is me suffering this person feels it, it is possible if you are an empath or have empath hability.
I do feel others pain and sorrow and try to help any way I can
i think it is possible to get such energy when someone starts getting attached and feelings start growing towards certian individuals i believe that people can have positive experiences as well as negative ones.
sometimes it is best to cut off the connection so not to feel their pain and save ones own self from feeling such distorted comfort..i say better them than you right.
but i know sometimes in the long run such things as feelings are inevidable.
I think there are always certain people with whom we build bonds that can be so close that we can feel their pain. My mother has that for her children, and many people ahve that with their mate or close friend too.
you know as well as i do, Vlad, how much pain i went through when my grandma was ill. On her final day, I went to go see her. She didn't look like my grandma. For the first time in my life I had an anxiety attack. But at the time, it felt like more than that. I actually felt like a heaviness was placed upon my chest and I struggled for every breath, like my grandma was doing. I have never felt anything like that before, and I never want to feel that way again. I have always been close with my grandma, but that was closer than I ever wanted to be. Call me crazy, but I seriously believe that I felt exactly what my grandma was going through... .
kat always feels the pain of others but is there ready to help in anyway he is able even if its only a hearing ear sometimes that can do the world of good to someone who is in a distressed situation
i think sometimes when certian individuals have tramatic experiences that they develop certian gifts stronger than their other sense and i think that this is one that can be developed in such a way.
I have experienced such feelings before. Whenever I get attatched to someone emotionally, I tend to ride on their energy, be it positive or negative energy.

I know just what you mean.
last night I had to deal with some heavy emotions myself, as a dear friend just 21 years old is dying.
I speak for myself when I say I think it's quite a 'normal' reaction.
Anger, deep, deep sadness and for a time not being able to reconcile myself to what must be.
It took several hours to get myself together and remember nothing good is ever wasted.
I believe in life after death, but that does not mean I can switch off my emotions.
It hurts.
I can only advise that you take time out in the quiet of meditation, as well as offer whatever assistance you are able.
This is what is helping my just now.
Personally, ive had a LOT of problems.but when i hear of my freinds, either VT or RT......................it humbles me to tears.i am lucvky compared to some
and I think .....jeez.i havent got a problem any more and I am here for anyone......anyone that needs help
as MANY have for me on Vr
i wont forget

I wonder if you realise how much you do help when you feel and say what you do ?
Thank you
A lot of people are empaths or just so intuned with their friends and family that they feel their pain.Just be strong yourself and recognize that you are feeling their emotions so you can channel them out safely.
I wonder if it could really be a gift... I feel the need to help in anyway I can when I know someone is hurtin.....

I think compassion is a blessing rather than a gift.
Very much needed by all of us at times.
when you are close to someone that feeling becomes a part of you. it does me. I want to take the pain away.
I'm greatful that many of you can understand what I was getting at. It was hard to come up with words to explain the way that I was feeling at that moment. Thanks to everyone.
i feel others pain and it does make anger but i try to turn that anger in a positive and then say or do something that will help
Empathy Is A Gift...As I Know When Someone Is In Pain (Physically Or Emotionally) I've Been Know To Act On Those Instincts..
People Know The Great Lengths I've Gone To Help Them Get Through Their Tribulations...
i think that this can go much further than jsut feeling someone elses pains and hurt i feel it is also possible to feel someones joys and happiness as well.
I have indeed been in that situation before. If someone close to me if suffering, I tend to end up feeling every bit of pain, rage, ect. that they are feeling. It's just something that happens naturally with me. And if it's something I've gone through, then it's much more complicated. I tend to think of it as my own problem again and stop at nothing to help them get through it. Even if it means getting involved myself.
i always had to build a connection to the person first but i can feel most peoples pain like my heart hurts. Strangly i only feel one persons happiness....i seem to be more attuned to negative energy. it goes away though if i close the connection.
When one is close to another, it is hard to not let one's own feelings get in the way and to want to help this person. Most of the time, if a loved one or someone close is sick, a feeling of helplessness overcomes the person and at times can be overwhelming. I do feel this way with people that I love and who are close to me, the "energies" that I get from them are obviously negative because they are hurting and I am hurting because of their pain. Most of these feelings are emphatic and it is something very natural to feel.
However, I can feel the pain of people that I do not know as well either. Although the force is not as strong, I have always been one to recognize this sort of thing in others. The hardest thing is the feeling of helplessness and not knowing what to do or knowing that their is something wrong, but not exactly "what" it is.
I have similar experiences, as i read people's profiles journals ect ect i feel what they were feeling when they wrote it or while im speaking to them. Some times the feeling lasts for hours or days at a time, depending on what the general feeling of the writing.
I am like Minx, my chest gets very tight if someone I love is in pain, and won't go away till I find out who it is, and what is going on. I am able to take some pain by sending healing energy to them. I can't do it unless it's someone I care about greatly, though; I wish I was able to do it with strangers, but it just doesn't work
I would have to agree with Minx that sound like you became very Empathic.
Thats OK. I have that emotion often.
i think you two share a bond so you are likely to feel pain of what she is feeling.
I feel things from others that i am very close to either it be pain or another emotion, it just comes to me from getting close to another it happens alot with me and my close family as well.
Yes we do feel the pain from others especially when we can for them. We see the pain in their eyes, their every word cuts a wound in our hearts and soul. Sometimes even to embrace them is painful but we must be steadfast and help them in any way that we can.
i kinda get that way when my boyfriend starts to doubt himself in everything, saying that he's a complete failure. but yeah, sometimes when he does that i just wanna beat him over the head with a college text book.
it's funny that this post came up. I had been feeling kinda bummed out all day yesterday dispite the fact that I was going on vacation and taking time off from work, you would think I would be happy, but I was not. I was frustrated. I got a call later that night from a close friend of mine of almost 20 yrs telling me his mom was int he hospital and dying. He was very upset talking to me and I just could feel his pain and sorrow. The two of us have always had a connection to each other and have always communicated to each other through our dreams when we needed to talk. And then upon having this dream would call one or the other saying "you wanted to talk?" or "you called?"
I believe if you are close to someone deeply, you will always share their feelings and pain.
truly hon you have the qualities of an empath.... this is something you will notice you are going to go through a lot... if you didn't know it already.... I get feelings like that but I never feel them through text though only when I'm with or near a person who is ill, in pain, having family issues, etc....
yeah, im definitely like that, it can be a friend, family member, or even someone I hate, if Im near/around them, or even just talking to them on the phone, I get this "feeling" that they're happy, sad, mad whatever.
and it's like I can feel it as if Im living that life, I notice with my best friend[s], with what happens in their houses, and Me being the one their for them, it's almost like I am living that life, even if they wont tell me whats going on, I already know somehow. and if they're happy, I instantly feel happy, or If I see someone smile, I seem to smile [and mean it] for no reason either, it's kinda weird but yeah
Yes, I am the same way. I can always sense when a friend is bummed out because I suddenly can feel what they are feeling . . . no matter how far away they are.
If there i someone who needs me, i am always there to help or give any good advice
I do and i don't feel just some emotions I feel my friends and especially my loved ones emotions that is how you, i, and everyone that is able to feel them is able to comfort so very well and it can be a blessing and yet a curse at the same time.
When bad things happen to my friends or family I'm either in rage and anger or I'm filled with sorrow. But when something good happens I'm normally happy all day.
I know where you are coming from, this happens alot to me when I am reading something that is written with a lot of emotion, I can feel what they were feeling at that time.
Empathy can be a double edged sword. Yes it is good to be able to feel for your friends and loved ones, but control is the key.
I feel everything. Every emotion from those around me. The stronger the emotion the harder it is to disconnect from it. I cannot be in large crowds at all. The mix of emotions is overwelming. I can also feel them over telephone lines and with strong emotions like suffering, love, and hate I can even feel them online. Unfortunately for me, I have never been able to use meditation to control this.
Empathy is a great tool and can be an overwelming handicap. If you feel you are gaining empathic senses then use great care and find a means of control.
That's a great shame kalonaagiya
If you are interested I'm sure someone on this site will be able to help you shield.
My mother last year almost died from a serious sickness..she had two grapefruit sized cists on her pancertits..(srry spelling is not good..lol)...and i felt her pain..i too became ill..not from sickness but because me and my mom are soo close and seeing her in pain made me hurt too..i went thru many stages i became very sad, then really angry, then i eventually became nothing, i stopped feeling..it was a crazy...i couldnt stand it..but when she got better i too got better...
recently we had a tragity in our town and it effected my daughter badly ...she hurt and I hurt just as bad for heras her...
yes i have i feel y sisters pain anger everything she feels when it is strong i feel it with other to i can't explain it but sometimes i pass out because it is so strong
yeah I have felt that way before especially when a loved one is very sick or depressed...
can u tell when someone is dying when u get a feeling from them?
i think you do. it is a werid feeling you get from people before death.
ok thanks i now know to prepare myself for it thanks
the connections are high to others feelings u can always sense others pain and fear through there touch there words and anything else
What a lot of you are feeling is empathy, yet..in your wording you make that persons pain, your own...that is not what an empath is.
An empath merely feels the pain, knows it is the others, and tries to deal with it.
You are doing what 99 percent of the race does..hear, read, witness an event..and somehow make it to do with you. Instead of it being theirs.
yes i do have to agree....i do that to sometimes but then i like to figure out whats wrong and how i can help
And with that there is nothing wrong. But its different when so man people these days go "oh yeah well this happened to me a few days ago." Or "your sick, well i've been feeling under the weather lately too." "hmm I just cut myself last week, don't worry it heals quickly" Its one thing to feel another persons pain, even expierence it, But we will never feel it like they do, nor they us.
And its good to try to help them, just so long as you aren't doing it do YOU feel good imediately, but so they feel better, and in an end result, you may feel better. But not more so than they.
i usted to feed of of of other pain and hurt but am learing a different path if you do this it tends to drane you more thn help you
It all seems veryinteresting but I am against the idea of Empathy except as a last resort...because it is invasion of privacy...
I hate knowing that others are in pain and I wish I could take the entire pain into myself.
I do not feel compassion for no one other than the few people around me, every one else i do not feel compassion for...
Like an Empath, you feel the emotions behind words spoken and read, in the touch of another, and you do obtain a sense of it, the happy times are alot happier and the sad times are alot more in the sorrowful woes.
I believe in mutual connections. and If you have a friend or relative whom is suffering or feeling any sort of emotion, it is emited to you as well. because I think that if I walked into a room full of sad depressed people, i myself would begin to feel down, but if I walked into a room with hyper and happy people I would be happy as well.
I have many friends that im very close to and afew of them are actually on here...when my friends hurt i hurt...its something i cant hide, cant control cant even stand!! I hate to see my friends hurting, when they cry i cry, when they get anger i feel it too!!
But the same is said for them too...when i hurt, they hurt, when i cry they cry...its a special bond we all share!!
A lot of the time I feel what others are feeling around me.
The only time I feel empathy is when the other person is sad and they mean a lot to me... But it's only when I'm around them, not through text or phone conversations. Most of the time I get upset (at myself, maybe?) but I tend to get soft and sad, too.
Anger, helplessness, sorrow, pain. Negative energy but also positive, (there could be worse things) A need to help and encourage.
I myself feel all energery its sometimes annoying... whenever someone that i know is sad happy or ill i feel it even when there not close by me i know when things are wrong by the energy i feel im not sure if my words are of any help but usually if ur sences are open to those feelings u feel them
Thats what happens when my dad and step mom get into heated drunked fights. I can feel everyone's emotions all at once. And it sends me into a panic.
I know when my hubby was really sick when he was waiting for his transplant I tried to get him to focus on positive things. I told him about all the positive things in life to look forward to. He decided that this was worth living for.
I think this happens when trwo people phycologically connect to the feelings one wrote, there for the reader feels somewhat of a feeling from the writer...
also on occasion i will know what a friend or loved one is feeling without speaking with them, for instance one of my bestfriends was in the middle of a breakup and was devistated, i felt that there was something wrong with something for four days before i spoke with him and found out what was wrong and the feelings ended
I do not feel energy... but I do know each emotion of each person... just by passing them. I feel actual energy in myself more then wat I do around ppl. I get sick alot... my cold is relly bad from my athsma... I always seem to feel sicker.. and I can feel the energy leaving me. Even when I lie down I can feel the energy settling down!! I kinda know wat you mean.. and yes it is normal!!

When my mother was dying I was always depressed and angry at my father for leaving her and us kids. I took care of her--then after she passed away, I was simply dead inside...Well, for a while.
I am Empathic as well. I use to work as an EMT on an ambulance and I would gain their emotions but also their pain, it would help me be a better EMT and be able to know and understand how they are feeling. I would recognize what they were feeling and what was happening to them. I would be able to help them better that way.
I had to be very careful, as the pain would sometimes cripple me and so would the negativity of emotions.
In my experience I have noted found that those who hurt, draw energy. Not send out dark energy.
I have someone dear who is sick but her spirit and strength is so much stronger than anyone I have come across. I feel her with me wherever I go.
When you have someone you love..you intend to attach yourself to there feelings and thoughts..sometimes by accident.I have done this so often..that its just automatic.
sorry that you hav-ta go threw this.its painfull i know.
I don't know if I'm empathic or not but I have been told that I am when I describe to others what I have experienced.
I have done a range of things, from feeling other peoples emotions to their pain. I know when my boyfriend has been drinking (this started before I knew him) I get incredible migraines. I have been in a situation where a woman was beaten by her ex and I felt her bruises. I tend to get ill a lot more than I normally would. I cannot handle crowds my head feels like it is going to explode and I essentially shut down.
I have been subject to someone passing out from being drunk and I was so sick I was affecting others. I believe that I am an empath, or something similar.
I tend to know what people are going to say before they say it, it has happened on numerous occasions even if i have never met a person before...
Empathic bonds can be dangerous I believe..
Have no idea if that just made sense..
I think the feeling is of recognition. You recognize what they might go through, and naturally, as humans would.. you feel or act the same way they do. Not on purpose... Just to merely understand it entirely. Yet only so briefly.
i can sometimes feel another's pain. but in some ways i cannot describe
I can feel any emotion of those close to me. It works well when someone just needs to know someone else out there understands.
I also agree wholeheartedly with Minx. It just eats at me till I know what's wrong.
Like if I can tell my Hubs is upset and I ask him and he doesn't want to worry me so he tries to tell me it's nothing. That never works with me...
yes i have felt that kind of rage...when i feel that i sometimes act on it..
Yes, I have experience it as well. The best thing for the energy receiver to do is focus on how to aide the sender. Knowledge is yours!
