This is going on in the coven of the corpse bride. I did not start the question, but thought that it was a good one.
The question is this.
if a vampire had a chance to feed from the pope, the pope wasn't in any kind of holy place and he wasn't surrounded by body guards, what effects do you think the blood of a holy man would have on a vampire? Would it cancel out it's damnation (I doubt that because their has to be something against feeding on the pope lol) or would it hurt the vampire like holy water does in fiction myth and legends and stuff?
~WorthlessLies~ gets the credit for the question.
Like holy water I suppose. But than again he's human just like the rest of us. They still get bit by misquitos, right?
well my question is what make you think just because he is the Pope that he is as holy as he is to be precieved? I mean he is a human no more no less in my opinion, yet I could be wrong.
And I just do not believe in the whole Holy stuff can stop or harm a vampire. Not all vampires are evil as some may think.
If I were a vampire the pope would be the last person on my list to drink. The blood of the old thins and loses vitality... hardly an appetising meal.
Otherwise I'd have to agree with warriorfromhell... you're assuming that the pope is in fact holy. Personally on my scale of holiness the Dalai Lama ranks higher and I wouldn't dream of biting him!
The Pope is only human, so he would just be a "famous meal" for the vampire and make other vampires despise it for putting vampires in the spotlight.
Depends. if the pope happens to be carrying HIV virus, i guess it won't do the vampire much good. oh come on people - the Borgias were pope, one pope gave birth on the steps of the vatican - they are about as holy as my ass.
It would probably be the same as feeding off of a regular person, so i do not believe that it would hurt a vampire or do anything special for him either...
There wouldn't be a difference whether a vampire drank the blood from the pope or some other normal "joe". Afterall, the pope is human.
it doesn't have to be just the pope but a preacher perhaps...
As I don't believe that holy water and crosses have any affect on a vampire, I do not believe that biting the pope would hurt the vampire. However, it would also not grant the vampire any more special powers because the pope is as human as the rest of us.
However just because biting the pope or some other holy person wouldn't confer holiness doesn't mean that the vampire in question couldn't be inherantly holy. There's nothing to say a vampire can't be religious in his/her own right. As to holiness, well hardly anyone is holy, that wouldn't change just becaue you were a vampire.
Is it possible for a vampire to be holy?
Depends on how many stakes you have handy.
omg....well I heard the pope is very forgiving....but hey, would it be worth the sermon ? lol
Sure a vampire can be holy ... all you need to do is shoot him enough times.
Seriously though, yes I think they could be if I thought they existed.
If the whole "holy water kills" thing is true, I would think feeding from the Pope would be quite harmful.
Even tho the pope is blessed and head of the church, he is yet a mere man. for he does not have holy water in his vains or garlic for colenge. if in fact these affect vampires.
Look, there is only one way we are ever going to settle this argument. Who volunteers to get a sample of popes blood?
One I doubt anyone that is vampire might get close to the pope, mainly because he's more heavily protected then the nuclear bombs that America has.
Two the only way it would have the effect of holy water was if the popes blood was blessed. Something has to be blessed to be holy. And I don't think the pope can bless himself. Although it is possible.
ah, but it doesn't have to be blessed by a pope - any priest will do. so if the pope sneezes and the priest next to him says "Bless you", the pope will be blessed, so all blood, urine, bodily secretions etc would have the same effect as holy water. in theory.
is anyone else thinking .... ewwwww... by the train this thread has jumped onto???
So if a vampire sneezed and a priest or pope blessed him...would he burst into flames?
christ on a stick - i hadn't thought of that. i guess so. maybe that's why roses and hawthorn are so deadly to vampires - it makes em sneeze, thus rendering them vulnerable to the blessing of a priest. or maybe the blood and urine etc of a vampire is too far damned to be blessed. that would make them safe. phew!
Would a vampire be affected by drinking the blood of the Pope or even say a holy-man?. To toss out a tempered thought. Maybe , it would in some ways impower the vampire , especially if it were say a Master Vampire , which in some ways could be considerd a conquest. That is if one were to believe that a vampire is more than just another species of living organism rather than having a more spiritual denomination.
I do not think so... does crosses and holy water acutually affect vampires?
its interesting topic..
okay..i'm with that holy water theorie :)
but i doubt any vamp would come near to the pope
i think that holy water and the such wouldnt do anything to a vamp hell i waer a cross. as far as the pope being a vamp ehhh i dunno bt wasnt he a nazi?
That depends on what you believe.....
I dont happen to believe in 'Holy' to the extreme that it is dangerous to vampires.....
just my opinion
it's hard to really say in this matter. to be quite honest as eveyone has said, the pope is human thus is fodder to vampires no matter even if he is holy. personnaly, i feel that drinking the blood of the pope would drive a vampire insane.
Blood is blood. It is not the flesh that makes a person holy but the spirit and therefore the blood matters not.
I think it might of happened … do you see how old they look and they last a long time, when they die different color smoke comes out of the room … vampires for sure the whole lots lol
A person is just that, a person...Holy is just a word of authority and or power. Blood is blood. Blood is the life for some. So my answer would be a no.
Eternal Damnation, is just that eternal, even if you were to ask for absolution from a priest or even get your last rites, (Catholic stuff) I believe it would have no effect what so ever to your status as it applies to the afterlife, you trade immortality for your chance at redemption, and as for the effect of the Pope's blood on a vampire, I have to agree with what many people have already said, He is only a man, and therefore he is Open game, however you would most certainly be sealing yours and every other vampires fate by upsetting the Roman Catholic church, Anybody remember the inquisition?
To feed from the Pope or the head of any other human religious organization for that matter would not be the brightest of ideas and I would think that it would make you and thereby us rather unpopular.
As to the feeding aspect making any difference to you, I would think not, he is but man after all. The Vampire is in essence very very old, probably pre most religions (though he was known by different names back then) and certainly pre Hollywood, so I cant think why the religious aspect would make any difference, thats like saying that those who followed Islam before turning can only be hexed by the Koran. mmmm
I have been in the churches of many different religious organizations and have never felt up nor down nor turned to a pillar of flaming ash in any, but, I suppose I did try to respect the wishes of those present and not eye up the preacher as a potential Scooby snack.
If for some strange reason you seriously wished to follow a "Holly" life it may indeed be possible though your nature and experiences would be a very big problem to overcome. That would be like an alcoholic owning a brewery and not sampling the goods, improbable but not impossible.
I don't think bighting the Pope, even if he did forgive you would help you to get there though.
I don't think it would be a very good idea, but I am not sure if the blood would harm the vampire either. I mean if it is blessed like holy water then I guess it might have some affect on the vampire, but I am not sure.
The Pope is a man and like a man his blood is no holier than a cow you serve up as a stake. Cows are considered holy in some religious faction but you still get a nice safe cut of meat from it when it comes down to it.
in reality. vampires cant be holy since the pope is just human.
depends on your definition of holy.and dont forget the crusdades.the catholic church is worse than the church of england.and as for holy water.i wish people would drop the crock of shite that surrounds the myth about vampires.crosses, holy water, garlic, silver.these do jack to a vampire.unless you have alergies to any of the above.the only way to kill a vampire is the same way you can kill a human, decapitation,or something through the heart.some vampires still respect life.how many lives have been taken in the name of religion.
no offence here please and no mean of rudeness, but I dont consider anyone to be holly, not even the pope, again no offence, as all living humans have sin and to be holly, you have to never have sin, like Jesus he was holly cause he never sined.
Now lets say for the question he is holly, I think it would make the vampire, ether a truely immmortal behin, meaning nothing not event he su would kill , or it will kill on the first sip.
Maybe that is why vampires do not like to go into churches, because they might get blessed by a priest, but i think priest are as holy as the next person no better or no worse than the next person, so their would be no diffrence....
wait if a vampire goes into a chruch wont the crosses and stuff in the chruch affect them
I think it would all depend on what genre of vampire we are talking about
movie real or book or rpg format
if rpg format then it would be impossible as with most movie genre vampire
I dont think his blood would be any different then any other person maybe a virgins blood would taste sweeter in age LOL
honestly it is a good question it just depends on what format we choose to think upon the whole thing
In a lot of cases where we're talking of myth, legend or fiction (the area that holy water might apply) it's the vampires own religious belief or history that causes them to be hurt by religious icons or holy water. In these respects, if the vampire had been catholic, he likely wouldn't be able to get withing 10 feet of the pope without suffering damage much less taste his sweet papal blood.
However, someone who was say...Russian Orthadox and doesn't recognize the status of the pope would have no trouble providing of course that all manner of crosses and related religious icons (that are also believed in by the Russian Orthadox) that usually surround the pope were not there to stop him.
Now other vampire legend or fiction relates that the vampire is a whore of satan or truly damned in the eyes of God. In those respects, you'd have to judge from the author or geographic origin of the legend in order to judge the potency of the potentate. If for instance you were looking at the regions where excommunication from the Catholic church could in fact make you a vampire...then likely the pope would be untouchable...much less drinkable.
to me drinking the pope's blood would be the same as drinkin holy water or eatting garlike he wouldnt bee around for much longer as the vampire would be deader than a door knob in short order.
He could have his soul given back...that would be hell on earth..Remorse city
I don't believe it would have any affect at all. The Pope is human. So, it would make no difference.
Actually, I think that it would be sweeter blood than usual...forbidden fruit having that much more allure. It's just too naughty to resist, n'est pas? But seriously the Pope, or any other priest (of what religions are we qualifying this? No one is scared anyone will vamp a Wiccan HP) is a mortal man like any other. Why would their blood have any adverse effects on avampire who feeds from them? Reversing their "damnation"? I suppose it could be a kind of blessing if the blood is given willingly. But reversing their state of vampirism? Nah...how do you change what you are?
why would it matter? Because depending on your belief...the Pope is the voice of God...God's emmisary on earth. That's a bit more powerful than a cross on someone's neck right?
Holy in what way? That they believe in god or they can go to church?
I think you would have to beleive that the pop was actually someone Holy, for his blood too actually have an effect.
He is just a person, and the water is only water....until you beleive it is something more, something sacred.
You put the power into something, and you can take it away.
considering that every being whether considered holy or not still has a good and a bad side no matter how much they try and repress that side of themselves. It could possibly go either way and would greatly depend on the situation at hand.
i know religious people blood means nothing i have tasted many christians and catholics it means nothing that they are religious blood is blood
It is very probable that anyone, vampire or not, is probably holier than the pope...
:P
Anyway, what I can say for sure, because my country (Greece) is officially an Orthodox country, the Leaders of the Church here are often ivolved in scandals, crimes etc although in a magical way no one of the accuses ever stand for over a day ;-)
Such men don't seem much of holy ppl to me so..be my guest and bite...you'll do good to the world...
Whether or not a Vampire can be holy depends on your religion. Holy to who? Holy means sacred to a deity. now if there is a Vampire religion, and a Vampire God - a Master Vampire could be deemed holy. you did not state what your personal religious inclinations are, and there are many religions. Even if you are meaning holy pertaining to the judao-christian god, whether or not a vampire can be holy to that god depends on whether or not the bible is holding all the truth. and then we must ask "which bible?"
Real Vampires are not evil or souless so, yes. They can be holy. They are just another form of human. They just evolved from another animal.
I do not belive the act of feeding would make a vampire holy. I believe in order for someone to be holy including the pope is has to come from their own faith and what runs through their veins is just blood. Their spirit is not something that can be feed off of or absorbed. A holy spirit is something that must be obtained through ones own's faith...
I think... and I hope that made sense.. :)
http://vampirerave.com/profiles2.php?profile=KissesMadeOfSorrow
you are completly right, well to me at least
one cant take something and say "im holy!"
one has to gain it by themselves
Since Vampires, Werewolves, and the like are considered to be 'Spawns of Satan', I hardly think one could ever consider them 'Holy'. The very nature of such creatures is the manifestation of evil incarnate, so, why should the thought even be considered? As for a vampire drinking the blood of a Holy man, such as the Pope, I would think that might leave a 'Bad taste in one's mouth'! No pun intended!
The Roman Catholic pope does eat and drink of Jesus flesh and blood so it could be argued that he has some vampiric tendencies.
i dont think it wud hav any effect wut so ever the pope is still a human nothing more and nothing less know if the pope drank holy water he wud hav 2 drink it all his life 2 hav enough in his blood stream to do that so i believe this cud not happen
Yes a vampire can be holy... if a "holy person" is "turned" they are still or at least still have the mentality of said "holy person" does drinking the blood of the "holy" make one that way? Only in the same instance that eating at McDonalds turns me into a cheeseburger.
wow ummm i never heard a question like that before...its possible, anything can happen for anyone.
I don't think so . If they cant stand the sight of the cross and when they touch holy things they get burned . (ex. crosses , holy water )
the holy water thing is just a bunch of hogwash and has no effect on a vampire, also yes a vampire can be Holy .
blood is blood -- it's not a quality issue for a vampire.
I can't ever imagine a vampire looking at people like they were a menu and thinking "I think we'll go religious tonight" or maybe they want something spicy with a touch of aids
I would agree with anyone who says the Pope is just human.
Surely he does a religious job but he's just a person like everybody else,so no.
And please don't do offensive posts, keep to the topic.
I am sorry but that sounds like a comic strip.
A vampire is obsessed with the pope. He is stalking the pope. He does alchemaic tests on the pope's blood to see if it will harm him after kidnapping the pope.
He knows there is destined to be a vampire pope, and he is trying to find the lineage that would allow this to be.
He finds this pope after 1350 years and makes him a vampire. Sadly, is it the end of this vampire because it pisses God off.
O'man, I can't believe nobody went for the joke and pun the word "holy" for hole-ly! *shaking head* Disappointed guys.
Hmm... wouldn't the vampire in question need to believe the pope is in fact holy? Is the vampire in question a religious one? To me holy is a term ..a label .. a religious label. In order for anything "holy" to have any effect on anyone, vamp or otherwise.. the person/vamp affected would have to give that power to the "holy" person/object/etc..
So I guess my answer would be yes.. a vampire can be holy if he/she believes themselves to be and therefore the blood of the pope would have no effect on them.
As far as the mythological hollywood vamps are concerned.. I suppose the pope is considered as holy as any cross or other religious symbol.. so yeah there would be the effect there..
Oh and Billy, you missed it... MBK and Felix both went for the hole-y angle.. they were just subtle about it..hehe
Assuming vampires (in the sense of Hollywood and novelists) were real, then a vampire biting the Pope would turn the Pope into a vampire. If you've ever watched the old B&W movies... the priest and/or nuns often get bitten and turned as well. I don't believe that being religious would stop a vampire. Back in the day, the majority of people being bitten were people who were 10 times more religious than we are today. That's just my take on all of this...
and I like your sense of Humour as well Billy... very funny. :)
HA HA! Funny Fuuuunyyyy!
Nope, pope is not holy.
I think that answers the question?
the point is, we are not talking about real popes and real vampires are we? we are talking about popes and vampires that exist in a fictional world where popes are holy, and vampires are damned souls etc. so the writer can make up his own rules. when i wrote my vampire stories, i made up a whole new set of rules - as do most writers really. so if you want to write a story where a vampire bites a pope and suddenly becomes holy and no longer damned (but still a vampire) i think thats a great idea for a story - maybe even a series. go for it.
Well if I was a vampire I wouldn't want to suck anything from karnstein's ass (no offence)... but I think Karnstein's cynicism about the papacy is well placed... they don't even believe their own spew... was it not Pope Leo (VI??) who said "It has served us well this MYTH of christ?"
Is it possible for a vampire to be holy?
Would it surprise anyone to learn that the first-ever recorded instance of the word "Upir'" (the Slavic word from whence was derived the modern term "vampire") was in direct reference to an Eastern Orthodox Christian priest?
In 1047 CE (100s of years before ever "vampires" were falsely depicted by fiction writers as the blood-sucking, crucifix-fearing, fanged "Undead"), a Novgorodian priest who had just transcribed a book of scripture penned his own name in the marginalia thereof as: "Father Upir' Likhyj".
That's right: Father "Vampire"
For a discussion of what the adjective thereafter (Likhyj) probably meant, take a peek at my journal entry on the subject.
As I have stated here all along, the actual historical truth regarding who and what "vampires" truly were... and still are... is almost completely antithetical to that depicted in fiction and adulated and emulated here.
As is often the case with so much we believe as "real" and "true."
Since I don't believe in the Pope being "holy" or anything but a man. My response would be no and I don't vampires are damned. Why would we be?Other than movies and comp.games, the idea is ridiculus.
The Pope wears Holy items, and his blood would have the effect of an (extremely powerfully) blessed holy water, fed directly into the vampire's life source - *covers ear* BOOM!
Going on that theory that would only happen if you have, or had, a belief in Christianity, what if you were originally of another faith why should crosses and holy water etc work if you were original Buddhist or Hindu?
Why would a vampire want to go after a pope anyway. i think it is silly to think that a vampire would then go after a pope. To think the vampire would feel any regret about it at all astounds me. No I think it wouldn't make the vampire holy.
It's often said that it's the faith of the person not the religion that deters or harms the unholy
Annakeeya,
Destroying the Pope would destroy Christianity's greatest believer (in theory,) so many other Christians would lose faith, along with other religions... rendering religious articles useless when handled by the faithless
I don't think the blood of an elected official of a church that used to litterally sell salvation and forgiveness is "holy" to begin with, and I also don't agree with the idea of holy water hurting a vampire anyway. All crusifixes and Holy water are are symbols of faith. If a vamp attacked me and I through my pentogram at it I don't think it would do a damn thing, and neither does anyone else. A statue of bhudda or a star of david has never been rumored to hurt a vampire, I think the only reason that peole say a crucifix would is because christains all seem to think that they are the only people who really have faith and everyone lse is ignorant and in need of "saving".
No offense to any Christains who happen to read this. It's AGAINST my religion to descriminate on basis of faith, and I know not all of you are that narrow minded.
I am not religious, not do I believe in any god... my belief are set in what's real... the strong survive, the weak perish... we must fight for what we want, protect what is ours...
I dont think a vamp would be scared if I stood my ground, putting faith in my beliefs... to protect my loved ones... but they should be
*bows gracefully* Nothing deadlier than someone fighting for loved ones
*smiles*
Back to the question, vampires being holy... I believe is flawed.
A person wishes to be blessed by their holy power... whatever god... whatever religion... A vampire could not practice religion without committing suicide
Probably the second option, Unless the pope was corrupt. I feel many are =/ But yeah, i'd love to know the out come to.
True and besides, Vampires must kill to live, which goes against the whole "thou shalf not kill" thing, and even when it is for your own self preservation, a true christain would rather die than kill another. Goes along with the turning the other cheek idea.
Of course the whole practice of religion could be the product of vampires long ago... controlling the masses through fear of damnation
Vampires being pale, powerful.. "immortal"... and possibly for all intensive purposes unable to reproduce... Sounds like many Angels
