The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

Some of us have been here for a while now - obviously- and have achieved the status level of 'Sire". However, if one checks in the User Levels, one sees that Sires rarely move around in status - i.e. page ranking.

I have some questions on this.

The first is a question; does achieving the level of Sire mean anything with so many currently at the level? If so, what in your opinion makes it unique and special (other than the obvious rating power)? What makes it not so 'thrilling', for lack of a better word, than when one was moving up the ranks?

I know (few) other positions have been put into place to offset this (somewhat), but could there be an even greater achievement for the competetive at the level if there were a "sub - status" systems for Sires with maybe 'titles' and that ilk?

I am pretty busy re-rating things after my name change but would the added element of something more to strive for here induce some of us to be more active and therefore, interactive?

Heh what can I say I achieved the level of Sire,I guess that means I spend a lot of time here hehe.

I'm just doing the same things I used to do before.I didn't care much about the status,that's why it took me more than a year,I took things slowly and then woah I reached Sire.

As for the titles hmmm I don't know,I think I would do the same things I am doing now.

I suppose I want to know if people who are Sires already want to see a bit more competition and excitement like when they were levelling up, if they are content to just have fun (As our ubiquitous friend notes...) or if some sort of 'Sire Ranking" would create more excitement and enthusiam over contributing to VR?

reaching Sirehood was my goal, and having my coven, I am happy how it is, I iwll admit that I do at times wish there was positon whitin the Sirehood, (I am lettig more my daughter on so she can get hers lol) I think like maybe not levels themseves but position, that would allow us to do a little more once reach that level and get a bit fo power (yeah I am ambitious lol)

Or toher sort of Sire like a Sire that can earn different favors, the favors fo the Sire/Prince, in a sens only Sire could participate in those games, and the favors would only count for their own level, like for the top 3 for exemple?

It was a goal of mine for a long time to reach the level of Sirehood. There are a few perks of being a Sire that I enjoy, but for the most part, it's really no different than being a level 18 or higher in my opinion.

I agree Mina I think that there should be something else to strive for once you make Sire and your Sire sub category idea sounds great.

With the lack of the dogfights it seems that all that there really is to do anymore is rate and chat which is fine but I always like to have some sort of goal to go after.

I for one had a personal goal of reaching sire, which took me six months, and then the goal of having my own coven when I reached it. So, to a point there is more to a Sire than just having the title. But having a coven is not for everyone and should be taken seriously before venturing into that area.

although i am not a sire i see your point and agree with it. it would make it more interesting for those that have made sire. but at the same time eventually there must be an end do you see my point?

Making Sire is a great thing and there is lots to do after you get there. You can start a coven but even more important you can be a mentor to the new people on VR. That is more important then any title on this website.

Having levels of sire that sounds like a bad idea to me i mean that is what a status level is for to reach it, if it keeps getting raised than their is no point to do it anymore because it will always keep getting raised...

I made sire in less than 7 months and felt a big relief in attaining it...goodness, just realized I've been a sire over a year now! I have just pages viewed to reach level 29 in just about everything... I had no desire to start a coven of my own.

It might be nice to have special marks or ? for sires...there are so many now than a year ago to make it interesting.

Higher level? Why? You can not be anything more unless Cancer wish it.

And the page that list Sires I believe it listed by the day you join the site. If I am mistaken- please correct me.

Radu has a good point- you can help the younger members with the site. You also can stay busy with rating, write articles, enter items into the database. Put some effort into making this site better.

One thing that I notice only a few Sires do is "take time off to travel". Even if you make arrangements with your House Master if you are happy staying there, it is a unique opportunity to travel to other Houses and covens to get the feel for different things and to meet new people. I don't see very many Sires do that.

There is a rumor going around (as soon as I start it) that once you become Sire, you will then start over again with new levels.

For example:

Whelp Prime
Mosquito Prime
Shadow Prime
Marplot Prime
Caitiff Prime
etc.'

You will need to go through the whole level system again. But instead of being able to be forced into a House or Coven at Caitiff ', you will be required to start your own Coven. You can then force induct any member that is between levels Whelp' to Caitiff'. But if another member of your coven gains a higher level than you, you will loose the Coven to that member.

There are other changes in the works but ...they are only rumors.

If one is looking for a new title, perhaps joining the ranks of administrative staff is what you need...Working and applying/requesting to become a Dominar or Sentoran or Acolyte.

There has to be a limit to how high you can go and yes that means the final level will grow in numbers but the site is also growing there are new members added every day. As the site grows that means there is more room for more covens and more sires will be needed to run those covens. Granted not everyone will want to start thier own coven. Once you reach sire you do still have to do some work to maintain that status, but not near as much as what it took to get there. That will give you more time to contribute to the site in other ways. As others have mentioned writing articles, contributing to the database, helping others or whatever. I did have however 1 suggestion for adding to the status system based purely of of time spent and being atleast sire. That would be that say when you are a sire and your time spent reaches 1year you become an elder sire, at say 2years you become an old one sire and at 3years you would become an ancient sire. obviously those with higher status than sire would have that status in place of the word sire. Another thought I had is that the prince could create a title and pick from the sires and higher at his whim people to govern over groups of covens so that groups of covens would work together to accomplish things. Those positions would be filled by appointment by the prince in any manner he saw fit, sure you could probably petition him for it but I'm sure he will make you earn it in some way even if he thinks you may be worthy. Just my thoughts.

well good points when i hit sire i was over the moon then it all sort of fizzled out n thought well where can i go from here the answer pretty much no where so ye id like to see a few more incentives for sires to achive a newer level or prizes would be nice ,lol

This is my second account. I mainly got it because of the fact that I reached Sire in my other one. After that, there was no drive to do anything. I no longer needed to rate and post and try. I just sat there. lol I was ACM in a Coven and that was fun and interesting. Still VR lost that competitive edge that I enjoyed...even if I was competing with myself. So I created another account to get back into the game of leveling up.

However, as Sire, I have started a Coven and that's been a very pleasurable experience so far. I like that ability. I didn't think that I would and I put off starting a Coven for the longest time. The power of my rating? Eh... I don't really think about it all that much. I have people coming to me and asking me to rate them and it takes me a second to realize it's because I'm Sire. lol

I would enjoy different levels of Siredom. Like I mentioned, I'm competitive by nature and would love a new challenge. :D I know that this isn't how we all work and it would ruffle some feathers, but you're not going to be able to make everyone happy on a site that has so many members. *shrugs*

Looking at it from where i am now my goal is to reach Sire and start my own coven. Once i reach that gola i believe I will be busy running my coven. But I also might have the feelings that it would be nice for something else to strive for

I have hit 25.5 which makes me a true sire (i.e. a sire if I didn't have my master's mark) but lost it due to time away, getting that back and maintaining it is my next challenge, before being able to start my own coven

I have to admit that getting to Sire does take the pressure off.

You can sit back and enjoy and just keep on top of the daily rating of all things to make sure you can't fall behind.

If you need personal goals, there are higher levels than 28 on the 'number of posts' and 'time spent'- - but take it from me even when you max out on all this you don't go past an overall level 28 :)

One you're off the status chase, you can keep busy:

There are always whelps who need help either on an official set up like Adopt A Whelp or through the Acolyte test

You can use the knowledge you have gained in reaching Sire to write database articles, tour the societies or just help out on your own

There is just so much to keep you busy :)

I don't think there should be "another" level for sire. Why should there be? in the vampire realm how much higher can someone who is not the prince go? yes, there are other titles you can achieve at the whim of the prince. But aside from getting a different position within the princes staff I like the way it stands. Reaching sire to me was a great point in my VR life. It shows I've had the dedication to do what it took to reach as high as I could on my own.

I agree with you 100%. Sires can be mentors to the younger crowd. And younger not in age, but time spent on VR.

I think the goal of Sire itself is what most of us try for. Then build a successful Coven.

My question is simple in wondering if other 'positions' couldn't be created (i.ie. Game Warden (I DARE you to cheat at Boggled!) or Member Articles hawks or, shoot, I don't know - VR "Cruise Directors" who are part of the adopt a whelp, perhaps, but whose main focus is on introducing like minds, etc...

You have to spend hours upon hours straight here, rating profiles non-stop while making forum posts, rating Journals, and trying to "play nice" in the VampBox to keep your ratings up.

I do not see how that is so easy, so yes. Sire obviously means something. I've spent as much activity as someone with time away from the computer can, and still remain as a Level 7 Spook.

I think that it might be beneficial to some Sires to have a title within a title, so to speak.

I'm competitive enough that I'd play if there were other levels to achieve. But I'm comfortable as a simple sire. I do not wish to organize a coven but I do enjoy helping newcomers to vr so I became an acolyte and joined the Adopt-A-Whelp program of House Eternal, luckily they allow members from other societies to join them. I also keep busy with projects in my own house which is one reason I really like the society system. Travel to other houses and covens is an option but not one I wish to pursue at this time but it is there in the future should I want to do it. I also like finding items to add to the database and adding to the Members Articles. There are new members to meet every day and excitement to find by looking for it.

The question is a valid one and I know personally that I was addicted to leveling up. When the ratings and posts did not matter, my focus shifting from climbing the ladder to spending time in the society that I belong to.

Okay also one thing could be about sire is the special coven only for sire, that you coudl be in yours and that one, but only as a sire, and then gain levle in the sire coven.

Such ponder of what to do within the sires’ power perhaps a game should be created In addition to all of the other things that have to be done to maintain ones level.

Travel - I have done it once and am completely open to it when I have time. That probably won't happen again until the Winter Holidays.

This has been discussed in a thread before and many of us don't have the time for our one account, let alone two. Or, conversely, we have to juggle between them...

I am just thinking that more Sire achievement (now that our ranks are swelling) might be a fun, new idea for those who like the thrill of levelling up and the idea of 'achieving' something on the Internet.

Maybe it's just because I'm a peon on this site with no real ambtion to achieve the rank of Sire on here like leveling on a game. *chuckle* But it appears to me that on VR a Sire can start their own Coven, and that is the attraction of the rank, pure and simple.

I am still working to get to sire. I am close but still so far away, I can't wait to get to sire and just sit back and have fun and keep it at sire, not so much rating to do. I have loved the challenge of getting to sire although it has taken me a long time to get there.

What about a coven or a forum specifically for sires that we can join IN ADDITION TO our existing houses/covens as a talking shop. We can throw coven ideas around, give out advice etc. A privilege of the level that also adds to our and hopefully others VR experience.

Coolness having as a goal to be a Sire to be in the Coven of Sire so we can throws the monkeys and knives around VR wout Wout!!

OKay joke aside, a coven only for Sire, a good idea..where they can exchange ideas and sugestion to enhance VR and the covens,...and no Master Vampire allowed lol or maybe....lol

nooooooo...I don't want to be the ruler of anything! I'm too immature. It was just an idea I threw out there because I have mad power take over fantasies but no balls to actually execute. And I mean that literally: I don't have balls.

Anyway, my real thoughts behind this are that Sires don't actually need a coven to lead. Taking strong leadership steps in the forum, for example, would improve the quality of discussions and allieviate some stress from Dominars. Just "acting" like senior members would do an awful lot of people here some good. A number of peope say they are here to "learn" and I, for one, think most people have something to teach. If every Sire took one subject they were really good at and started an intelligent, well researched thread topic and stayed with it and monitored it, think about how the quality of discussions could improve overnight!

For the most part, many of the Sires on this site conduct themselves with dignity and maturity and truthfully, I think that is what keeps many people here. I imagine that your collective contributions are more important than y'all think. ;)

There are many things to do on this site.I find it impossible to have nothing at all to do on the rave.

I am enjoying the rave more at this level then before.I feel more 'relaxed' so to say.

when I make Sire it will still be fun because there is always something to do on the rave plus the Idea of having a Coven of just Sires would be very interesting .... as long as it was doing something worth while lOL I just enjoy the Site in general. :)

True, there are many things to do here on VR to be positively and productively occupied... but kinda fun having a page just for sires to come and be 'sire-ish' ;-)

When I reach Sirehood I have no wish to start a Coven...too much work plus I don't have the patience to deal with people on a daily basis...the idea of traveling to other Societies is appealing but not something I feel up to at the moment...what Billy said seems a bit scary...I wonder how accurate that rumour is?...:D

And if I were a Sire I think I would like to have a Forum accessible only to Sires...I do miss Favour of the Prince games...I also miss my old House Master...maybe the Regents could start a club where Sires competed for entry...just a thought...;)

Well as a sire, I must admit I had more fun working towards reaching the level. However I do find that maintaining my 'siredom' to be fun anyway.

I also find that I am helping others reach sire as well, spending more time helping and giving advice on working their way up the levels. Especially within my own coven.

And being a sire is an achievement, you have put in the hard yards and there is a sense of freedom and responsibility that goes with it.

Well thats my 5 cents worth anyway. :)

OKay on other hand without starting a coven of Sire, why not a special room just for Sire, like link, that once you reach Sire, there is a forum exclusively for Sires, that is available on the menu, so there can be a place for exchange of ideas and sugestions, but only for Sire, as for the Master Vampire, they could be like the dominar of it?

Easy enough to do. Open a chatroom. Its up to the members to work on some things within the site. Nobody is saying you can't. The same holds true for the coven. Make it so.

I do think it would be fun to have a coven style page for Sires; would it be possible for sires to be members of more than one house/coven... their regular house/coven and the House of Lords?

It would be nice to think there'd be a whole new section open to you when you reach level of Sire, because not every sire wants to open a coven, do they? A general meeting room would be a great idea.

But as for different levels of sire, I can't really think what they'd have to do on the site that isn't already taken care of by sentorans, dominars etc

Isn't that what the new favour system is for? I mean... I'm in a quandry about having interesting conversations with people that I miss (most of whom are sires) and loyalty to my houses (being active and splitting up favour between a plethora of profiles).

I would love to have more profiles so I could interact with more people, but it isn't really feasable to have too many profiles... I barely spend a couple hours a week here as it is.

although im no where near sire I think it would be a nice "reward " to give sires a place of their own..

Doesn't everyone want to become a Sire so they can lead their own goven and have minions of their own? I thought that was the whole point.
