In some cases people are cursed by witches, drink from a wolf paw print, are bitten by wolves, etc in order to become a werewolf. What I am wondering is if werewolves are able to have cubs? I mean turning into a wolf must be very painful because your joints pop out of place and have to reform and such. Could a child take the pain?

So basically what I am asking is this.
1) Are werewolves able to have cubs?
2) How would a baby stand the pain of having to transform every full moon?

Well first..realistically werewolves are fiction..and therefore I'm going to assume that you're just talking about Hollywood perception..the "what if"

If movies mimic the traits of humanity..and a "werewolf" were to breed with a human..the resulting child would be born with that in their DNA. As with all babies...they have both their mother's and father's DNA..but sometimes lean more toward the mother or father in physicality/traits.

I'd figure that the chances of them being a "werewolf" would be slim...and if they ended up that way...their body's ability to live with it would be higher.

well, let's talk about holywood werewolves then...
one day i was talking to a friend about werewolves, and i asked him why the wolves only bit adult men... (because werewolves are turned by a bite)
and he told me that the animal part in a werewolf keeps him from attacking children... (according to something he read once...) so maybe that's the answer... we will never see a baby werewolf...

yes they can reproduce (or as you say have cubs)

and the child grows up with it so that its tollerance to the pain gets more and more

at first transformation its almost like a test to see how strong the child is

it will eather make it stronger or kill it

My theory is that a werewolf cub probably wouldn't experience its first change to wolf form until it hit puberty, though I'm not sure that the bones would pop out of joint so much as reshape. Either way, it would likely be painful, but I think changing for the first time would be like a ritual test of readiness to become an adult and receive further training by the pack. I'm sure female werewolves exist as well, but it seems you never see them in Hollywood productions.

Well I would think if it's in the DNA, the pain of shifting is part of the entire genetic makeup, so therefore they should be able to tolerate it. That or they change once they hit puberty, would be my best guesses.

from different things i have read, werewolves can reproduce, but gestate in their wolf form and birth in their wolf form, also that the "cubs" are born wolfs and remain that way for a period of time before they start the transformation period. theortically speaking of course.

Well according to lore lycanthropy was a disease like curse that was passed on through a bite. It was not until modern role playing games and stories came out mirroring them that the idea that werewolves could have cubs and pass on the “curse” that way.

As for cubs and babies being able to transform, this was solved by writers by them saying no one could transform as such until they where much older and had reached maturity. Not to say it is not painful but this solved the dilemma of babies having to change with the full moon.

Fictionally speaking, it would only make sense to have an offspring of a werewolf go through their first shape-shifting experience when they would also go through other adolescent experiences--ie facial hair, sexual relations, menstruation, etc. It would be a coming of age thing. :)

there was a show a while back with Lou Diamond Phillips called wolf creek. It was a brief show but he got stranded in some remote place out in the woods called of course Wolf Creek. In the show everyone who lived in the town were all warewolves. He of course was unaware of it. Anyway the point I was trying to make is that in that show they were able to have human babies and when it was time to the comming of age then they turned into warewolves as most of us agree with. That show was really cool and dont know why it got cancelled.. and just as the plot was thickening too. Darn them!

I think a werewolf would be able to give birth just as a dog would, but I'm thinking the baby would look human just as the mothers dominant DNA would be human. The child would be able to turn into a werewolf at some point but maybe that gene lays dormant for a period of time, maybe once they hit puberty they would be able to transform.

All supernatural creatures are able to have sex and reproduce. They can mate with each other or humans. Wolves do not like to hook-up with werewolves. They look down on them, don't consider them part of the pack or team players. Werewolf transformation for genetic recipients usually occurred in the human's twenties, but early onset has been noted. Environmental factors are blamed. Shapeshifting is not the agonizing process depicted in movies. Since unexplained forces are involved it is merely thought put into action, often with nothing more than a lingering tingle.

Ok you all have the same opinions sooo time for a new question that goes along with this thread.

Sense we have concluded that werewolves can have pups, would the mother have only one child at a time (like a human) or would she have more than one child say like triples etc.

In my personal opinion I think that there would be a higher chance of there being twins. triplets, etc. B/c of the wolf in them.

If ou have read any of the Harry Potter books you will know there is a werewolf as a major charactor, he was bitten as a child and became a werewolf, he seemed to cope with the pain. But also if you read Darren Shan novels his charactors became werewolves when puberty starts, if they became on that is. The Darren Shan werewolves ae born at people who can turn into a wolf, but they don't turn back again it is a perminant state.

I could see it possible them having offspring like any other. Probably more so down to the human numbers, one child at a time with the possible twin or triplets. But also would say if transforming into wolf form were like that, and not a thing of will as I believe...they would have to take the pain in order to survive or die from it.

Well, the body is designed to withstand mass amount of pain. I mean if a person can withstand the pain of losing a limb or being shot several times and still walk or something of that matter I think it is entirely possible that they could survive it, but it would definately have a worse effect on them then it would a full grown adult becuse of the reduced size and lack of space in the body.

Where did this information that a child will only turn when they reach the age of 14 come from? It's fine to theorize that wolf-people (whatever you call them) if real would have offspring. It cracks me up when some here interject "facts" like that. Come back from fantasy land.

Like some people said, it all depends on the authors of these types of stories, but if they were real, I'd guess the cubs would be human and they won't start to change until they hit puberty. And I don't think the mother would go through the gestation as a werewolf, and the baby would be born human since the werewolves were born human.

Well from hollywood fiction we know that a child's werewolf abilities start at the age of puberty.

However if we go on from there then I think it would be different for a child as with all children their bones don't harden until after puberty has been completed. So with such soft pliable bones I am sure they will adapt to it a lot easier than an adult would... hypothetically speaking of course!

As with any genetic trait it would be passed on to all offspring, but to what degree depends on the strength of the mates DNA. It could always be washed out by the other dna unless it was a crossing of the same bloodline. I would also ascribe to the theory that it would not set on until maturity.

Since they are fictional beings, if you want werewolves to bear cubs/children, then why not.

What if someone where bitten and turned every full moon, what if he got someone pregnant? Then what would be passed on to that infant?

Or, a thought just hit me, if a woman had been bitten while pregnant or after giving birth and was breast feeding?

Yes, and it would probably be kept out of the moonlight.

i think that you look too seriously to all that warewolf...i think that its just metaphor.

however...IF they were and were able to have children, evoliution would do it work and transformation woldn be so paintfull for cubs...

or they all would die trough transformation and that why we never heard about baby warewolf ;]

I don't believe that there is a shapeshifting of species of changing in this respect....I feel that it's an inner change that may take place at certain times, like personality ect, but not physical.

Not to mention, if werewolves were real and did shapeshift it would be a sort of natural thing so who says there is any pain involved at all?

Okay all have valued points and opinions.

But I still wonder if a cub was born would it not be to two werewolves what do you think the effect would be then.

Well nothing it would be natural. I have never met a shape shifter so I am not sure that it would work.
