Having been attacked by something so much worse when I was a child, I never feared the Boogeyman. Never really gave him much thought at all. But, could there really be a Boogeyman? If there is, what could he be? I heard a theory that he may be a poltergeist made manifest by the collective fears of all the children of the world.
I think the the B man is just there if you are afraid of him or what I mean to say is that he uses ones fear against and as long as that fear remains he stays there to scare you.
I kinda have seen a boogeyman as what religions for example use as their badguy. The opposite in some ways. Used to scare people in order to keep on track.
I rather think that the boogeyman was a tool used by parents to get their children to behave.
These days the children can watch things on tv etc which makes the boogeyman seem tame lol
I think thats a personal issue as it would be different for everyone. Shoot I still fear the boogeyman as an adult. I could of swore I saw something up in my closet when I was about 4-5 but you know childrens imaginations....
im sure if a child wouldnt be afraid of the boogeyman if noone ever told them about it or they never heard about it but they would find something else to fear when i was young i never fear monsters i feared reality of murder and intense nightmares that would keep me awake..heh
I think this is something imagined by us when we are children
I think that the idea of the collective fears of children giving life to a distinct entity is very interesting. I do believe that it is possible. I remember growing up with stories about the boogeyman (although in the Carribean, where I am from, he has a different name). I was in the same position, having encountered more fearsome things, I never gave the boogeyman much thought.
many lores and bedtime stories were in fact the means to scare kids in being good when they goto bed. and i think no actual boogyman, just fears of the night.
Sleep paralisis is also a factor in many Boogy man stories sadly so is Molestation, Boogy man stories spike around serial killer activity, New Age Book stores carry "glitter bombs to throw into a closet .. to "blow up the boogyman, The boogy man is limited to the area around a sleeping childs bed as long as the child stays in bed they are safe...
I also heard that he manifested out of your own fear. Fear him not and he shall dissapear?
ha! I always knew I could scare away the B Man with lots of glitter.
The boogeyman was a prominent figure within my childhood because according to my mother he was coming to take me away every other night. To me the fear was not the man himself, because I thought he was a regular guy. The fear lay in the thought that he would take me away to somewhere unknown and that I’d never return.
As I got older and slightly more impudent, I would tell my mother to leave the door slightly ajar so that he wouldn’t have trouble getting in …It was at that point he went away and I kinda missed him after that …lol
I think he's just used to scare children.
The boogyman is different to us all, as we all have different fears. I dont think hes something in particular.
Scooping out potential donors.. I like that thought Helliquin
I think we give the "boogy man" name to things we wish did not exist.
I don't believe in the Boogeyman, but as I understand it, the Boggeyman is someone mothers around the world would scare their children with if they were not good. He has many forms, his shape changing with each country or religion.
the boogy man is something we made up to scare little kids when i was youg my mom used to talk about him all the time funny i have never seen him
Hmm most people would look at this forum and think that it's just a child's bed time story to scare them into not getting out of bed at night. But if you think about it a lot of people say vampires were the same thing. I know that the Japanese(sp) have a creature like the boogyman but I do not remember the name of it.
In theory I have heard that children posses the most spiritual energy ever. Could it be that the children are all afraid of the same thing letting their energy actually form into something called the boogyman?
I was told the Boogeyman was an evil ,sadistic clown with the taste for human flesh.........LOL
no, there is no such thing as the boogeyman... they say there is no such thing as a stupid question.. the person who said that has never seen this forum
The boogeyman is just the phsychosomatic manifestation of fears of the unknown. Children have less experience and therefore most susceptible
There is no such thing as a Boogyman, its not real and its fake. If there is a boogeyman it would only be in books and movies.
yeah, but to a child sometimes the mind can make things seem real. I know that feeling very well, & have scared myself silly like that on several occations.
Giving kids such fears rates right up there with the whole Santa Easter Bunny Debate, If you look at the Frances Fairy Photos you can see that children can on occasion make adults believe tales as well (even educated fiction writers who write about great logical detectives.)
HP Lovecrafts tales are thought to be real as well. People went to their graves convinced that War Of The Worlds was a real situation (even after they released a front page article) a fact that scares me more then the chance that the Boogy Man exist..
I used to be very frightened. (thanks to Boogey Woogey Woo by ICP lol)
I remember that I used to run and jump onto my bed, and it would be a sin to look under my bed once the lights were shut off. I was very scared.
I gift you a glitter bomb and a bubble machine.. because everybody knows that fairies travel in bubbles and that fairies illuminate the boogy man and pester him like mosquitoes.
*Baffled* Oh, I did not know that!
I should have kept bubbles in my room, maybe I would have been less frightened all the time and less nightmares!! D=
counter measures are good to have against such things as boogy men, vampires can even be destroyed. Boogy man can only be kept away. Boogy man Bane.. I have a list of stuff. Depending on the severity of the belief/imagination he exist in.
What's really particularly bad about the boogeyman? I mean I had a time when I was really little that I was scared of the boogeyman but I never really figured out quite what he would do if he came out from under my bed or closet.
I figured the boogeyman was just the general fear of monsters in children.
I don't think that the boogeyman could manifest from the fears of children, and I don't think he is real...but I could be wrong. You never know.
if the boogy man tale keep you from walking into a darkk alley on the way home from your friends house as a child then the story served its purpose. If the boogy man keep you in bed while your parents had fun without fear of you barging in on them then it worked for them. If beliving in Santa keeps the kids from hounding their parents for specific things. Then Santa worked as well .. when needed thoughs superstitions and such shine
I don't think I ever believed in the boogeyman. I have never scared my children with the boogeyman either. The word boogeyman is one I do not like. On the other hand I think for thoes who believe in him/her he/she could be anything they fear.
I have never been able to sleep if the closet door is open even just a crack. I don't know why I have always been unable to sleep if the door is open.
in case your child gets boogyman 101 from another child remember it is easier to disspell the boogy man then it is to introduce a child to the boogy man, way to go not "initiating your child that way"
I have something living in my closet. I never actually considered it was the boogeyman though... I always thought he was just a ghost who followed me from my last home. He steals my things and I find them in the back of my closet when I get brave enough to go in. Gives me chills...
The "Boogeyman" concept is a psychologically manipulated endevour go get the mind to think there is some unknown energy or manifestation linguring somewhere within the vicinity of any structure the individual is currently residing within.
This concept of folklore and tradition is to maintain a simple fear factor to have a barrier around certain subordinate individuals throughout society. As a tool for parents, and or guardians to have a control so to speak over those of whom are naive enought to be manipulated by fear induced storytelling.
It is merely just another name for anything uknown which the mind materializes with thoughts of what they project as a harmful encounter without encountering it.
I think it's just something that was made up to scare little kids.
He was very real to me as a child...My mom had to check the closet for him and make sure it was closed shut before I'd go to bed...and after watching "The Ring" one late night, I was freaking out, thinking that 'the bogey girl' - Samara - was going to come out of my TV and get me. Even as an adult, I still get chicken. LOL!
Has noone seen the boogeyman?!
Just watch some WWE!

Sorry.. hadta.. LoL
MaximusPain; that just adds to my fear of clowns now :)
You know - I hate clowns...they are real boogeymen!
( Stephen King's "It" and John Wayne Gacey don't help the clown cause either).
the boogyeyman isnt really a man it is all our fears together when we are growing up as children and it was a name we gave to anything that scared us. As children it was a name we gave to someting that scared us .... the unknown.
Please you cant be serious and still think that the booyman exits? Exactly how old are you? This topic reminds me of the monsters inc movie maybe you should watch it
As we grow up we tend to move away from the boogeyman and move onto the clowns I know heaps of people who are terrified of clowns
*Changing the lyrics to "Send in the Clowns"* "We must fear...The clowns." Actually it has a nice ring to it.
Usually it's for kids that are misbehaving, the threat gets old ;P
NOt unless you have a scarry mask. lol. That wors for a little while longer, now my children are older and they dont scare easy anymore.
I personally think the boogeyman is highly misunderstood
I think he is not a entity of evil, rather the polar opposite and his purpose is to help us become adults by facing our fears and growing out of them.Granted perhaps he goes the extreme with it however majority I have met who claim to have seen him now have highly successful lives and almost no fear worth mentioning thus they press forward with out concern.
However thats my view on the subject.
I believe there is a bogeyman
and not knowning of what it looks like or what it is and it is also something u fear or some one you fear
that brings the reality of a boogeyman
as in lore the boogieman is a creature made up by a childs parent to scare the child and try and make the child fear there athority and in some cases the parent carries it a bit to far and instils a lasting fear in the childmy parents always told me there are worse things out there then the boogieman and when i asked them what they were they always said me.
no the boogeyman was something parents made up just to torment children lol
maybe the boogeyman is whatever creature or thing tha scares little kids. i don't think it needs to have a corporeal form or be any distinct character, i think that the idea of the boogeyman is far scarier than the actual thing
jarak.... not because we just spoke about a few things but i have to agree with you the boogie man feeds off the fear of the children and it gives him power
the boogyman is something or one you imagine because of fear
The Boogeyman is real, just ask anyone who has survived an attack by sick people... it is just a name for horricfic acts...
I think the boogeyman is in your mind....if your scared hes there.....
the boogeman is our childhood fear that we have not come to face
I always considered the boogeyman to be just symbolism for whatever it is we fear the most.
I have a midget phobia so the boogeyman to me would only be about 3 feet tall.
I think if your scared and place it in your mind, hes real to you..
parents tell thier kids that to scare them into doing stuff that they do not want to do
I never believed in the boogy man even after I watch the movie. I thought the movie was stupid.
I have never belived in the boogeyman either.
But if he was real, I think he would be a shapeshifter and taking form into what scares us the most. I think J.K Rowling gathered inspiration to her boggarts who posesses the same abilities.
the boogyman is usually something a child makes up at night because they either are scared of the dark or they don't wanna go to sleep.
I think the boogieman has many differant descriptions; its a nickname given to that which scares one in the night, given that be an evil spirt, or polterguist, I think what is refered to as the boogy man is actually various differant things all related by the fear they install in us.
the bogyman is a manifestation of a child's nightmares when he or she has been scared from something.
I think more than likely the Boogeyman is just any negative entity that happened to show up. And since children are usually more receptive to entities than adults, they're the ones that the entity is attracted to.
I think it's just whatever scares you, we all have our fears, our worst nightmares.
In a book I use to have "Angels A through Z". The "Bogeyman" was one of the angels thrown into the pits of hell during the "War of Heaven". You find him/her mostly in German folklore as an entity that didn't live under a child's bed, but an entity that stole children's food until they starved to death and then it would eat their deceased body. Most professors think the Bogeyman is just a metaphor for Germany and Europe's plagues and faminines and the mourning of their youth.
The "Boogeymen" are usually assasins that hide in trees and yank people into the tree to kill their authorized target.
I believe in a such a being. Freddy Kruger was based on a true entity that Robert Englund played. It terrorized children and killed them in their sleep.
Even the Sandman started out as a malevolent being that would gouge children's eyes out.
Stephen King based "IT" off of the same entity that "Freddy Kruger" was based off of. Except turned "IT" into a giant alien spider.
But in all sincerity I believe.
I don't believe in a boogey-man. It's kind of like 'Friends' becoming a movie. It's just not believable.
When I was a kid I thought the boogeyman lived in my closet. I always thought I saw a pair of red glowing eyes coming from my closet and light growling gasping sounds too, used to scary me. But then again it was probably just my imagination from watching alot of horror movies. Sometimes now I still get a feeling something is in my closet just sitting there.
I know a parlor trick for parents, to appear too kill the boogy man with some basic novilty props..
I think the definition of a bogeyman differs from one person to another, depending on what you were led to believe when you were young.
I don't believe the bogeyman actually exists other than being used to make children behave when they were misbehaving, or in most cases, didn't want to go to bed. The irrational fears they sensed would prevent them from getting out of bed but instead stay in bed where they felt safer.
i have no idea what it could be but stephen king wrote a short story about the boogeyman i tell u it will mess you up
when we r childern we tend to let every little shadow and sound get to us because at that time of life kids a hav a vivid imagination
The Bogeyman is a myth created to help enforce rules by creating an intangible greater force, like most religions do.
hell we even have bogeymen here ;-)
The boogeyman can be cured by going into a child's bedroom and squeezing off a few rounds from any handgun, at close range, into the closet and underneath the child's bed.
No more boogeyman.
Unless you consider the police and department of children's services to be the boogeyman.
the boogeyman well i think he exsists becouse parents or at least my parents have used it to keep us in line being that chilfren hasve a very active imagination the thing that they can form in their brains can be frightfully scary i belive it can exsist as long as it real to the child it is a real thing
I don't think the Boogeyman is anything real, just and evil thought put into kids heads.
for me, my boody man was aliens. i was terrified of them when ever i went asleep cuz i thought i was always gonna be abducted. anywho, nah. i think the boogyman isn't a certain thing, it's just what you fear when you sleep at night. kinda like the clown from IT. he transforms into what you fear.
I wasn't afraid of the boogyman, just the shadow under the bed.
I like the poltergist theory. Thats actually a very good theory. But personally I always thought the boogy man was just one of my grandma Reaper's friends, along with the "bloody buck" that she kept in her attic. "moooommmyyy I hate being at grandma's house!! (becuz its very dark old and scarey like her) I WANNA GOOO HOME!!!" And then the loud knocking and banging noises would start. And then grandma Reaper would say "Shhhhh, whats that, I hear a bloody buck. Oh bloody buck bloody buck" Of course I never let that crazy old bat know that I was really scared. Even when the noises really did seem to come from up above and in the walls insted of grandma's feet rapping.
as a child i was scared of things but now i love anything that go's bump in the night
