Many people have different opinions on what a vampire is, what is and is not there weakness, what myth s true about them. I would for every one to share why and how you came to this.
Well the ones in the Movies and Hollywood are the dead that has risen and stalk and kill or turn their victims and drink / drain them of their Blood.
people whom live a Vampiric lifestyle ... well they live for the night and shy away from the sunlight and they have people whom they have blood letting / share their blood to drink it, not all do yet many do and well there are many things that one may do when they live the Vampiric lifestlye, so that is how I see or understand what a Vampire means to me.
many description may be found, alot will say the hollywood vampire are undead who need to feed to stay alive, yet here many will have different versions of lifestyle, blood or energy for life, it is what we all perseve as vampire or vampiric tendencies.
I think Vampires are an extremely old lore that Hollywood has profited on. I like (love) the whole idea but I think its pure fiction.
perhaps many decades ago, someone was killing people's livestock. They had seen a creature that they did not know what it was, so someone gave it the name vampire. Then the creatured turned on humans.
That may make a good Hollywood script.
i can only go by what Hollywood has protrated as what a vampire is. Its been brought to my attention that theres actually vampires among us today, but as of yet have not been able to confirm or cast it off as rumor.
the ideas of vampirism to of is on the whole romantic but more than that it is a life style that one chooses because of one aspect or another be it blood letting or dislike of the sun so on and so forth , i tend to believe that one doesnt need blood he one can feed off energy - so long as you get the energy of the life force true ?
Vampires are like the ones in the movies, I personally dont think they really exist. Unless i see evidence
to me a vampire is an immortal being that feeds on the life giving fluid in the living , and very misunderstood like witches and wolves
Mathamatically speaking, they cant exsist.I mean Legend has it that vampires feed on human blood right? And once bitten a person turns into a vampire and feeds on the blood of others.
Heres one way to look at this.. As of Jan 1 1600, the human population was around 536,870,911. Now,If the first vampire came into existence that very day and bit one person a month, that would mean that by Feb. 1, 1600,there would have been two vampires .
A month later there would have been four, and so on. In just 2 and 1/2 years the original human population would all have become vampires with nobody left to feed on.
But a vamp is a couple of things to me..a great story, and more or less a lifestyle.
An undead being that survives off blood. That, or a gold-digger, user, leech...
I believe that their are vampires...not the legend kind for we all know that everyone has a begining and an end but I percieve them as beings that are either phsycic and can read peoples emotions always on the darker side of life and I do think there are times when a vampire does need blood...
Vampires are powerful and seductive. Resourceful, planned, and prepared. Weakened greatly by the light of day, but I think they are rarely destroyed by it. Their strength is great and even more so when they feed. They don't always need blood to be satisfied. Typically they are immortal, not necessarily the undead.
I just think it is alot of hollywood movies to make money and also historically speaking people who have drank the blood of thier enemies or their first kill because of some myth or folk lore that it makes you one with the kill and superior of them. .... everyone has an opinion on what a vampire may be .. bloodsucking leach, money hungry person etc LOL so I guess whatever you want it to mean.
A vampire to me is someone who can heal with a touch or by sharing their blood with you
Also a vampire to me is very sensual and dose drink blood
To me, it's just humans living the vampiric lifestyle.
Imortality doesn't exist, you are born and die just like everyone else.
vampire to me is someone who has power, strength and a need for lifes energy
vampires, which are creatures of the night began withvampire bats that feed on the blood of cattle and some other animals. Then books were written and many movies that brought us vampire characters that we know of today. They are mysterious and immortal, which is why so many are interested and wish to be one.
vampire is a mythical creature that half of people thing is real and the other half don't care
1) Folklore Vampire: Creatures created by various cultures to give a physical persona to blame and give explanation to the cause and reasons of unexplained and unknown medical conditions and the process of death.
2) Vampires in Literature and Film: Stories based upon the Vampire Folklore of cultures that were expanded on for the purpose of entertainment as well as giving semi-historical and cultural documentation.
3) Medical Vampires: Individuals who take on the physical characteristics, medical/psychological conditions and tendencies of vampires; i.e., Porphyria,
4) Living/Human Vampires: Every-day human beings who choose to follow and live the vampiric lifestyle, religion or path and/or have the need or desire to feed on the energy from the blood of animals or human, or the natural elements.
I am a Creative Writer--it's what I'm going to college for--so I tend to go for the more romantic, deadly, sinful, and sometimes gruesome vampires. Not necessarily because I think they're real--I have no opinion as to whether they are or not--but because I am a writer of fiction and this is the type of genre I tend to stick with. The vampires I write about tend to drink blood--obvious--have fangs--again obvious--have great strength--another obvious--but it is the background of the story that is interchangeable. The how, the why, the who-done-it type questions----to me, that's what makes a vampire a vampire, not the fact that they are depicted as vampires. A vampiric character is only as good as the story that goes with it. Just a thought, ;)
Vampires to me are the legends and myths I grew up loving to hear about. I think those are the real vamps- real are the fake ones. Yep yep!
i believe it to be a series of psychological traits/disorders closely similar to Carl Jung's archetype models
well my fictional vampire is strong fast cold pale but essentially hollywoods vampire
All i have to says is vampirism is a lifestyle. If you truly think you are a vampire then you are.. But please do not harm others.. Get donors !!! woohooo..
A real vampire is someone who subscribes to a certain lifestyle. The rest are works of fiction, such as hollywood & novels.
It is the blood that makes one a vampire; the blood that is consummed.
Leviticus 17:11
For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.
there are many versions of vampires , the Hollywood version , the nut cast version and the true version . The true version of a vampire is some one who takes your energy from you and stalks you for harm as to this a vampire can come in many forms , a child molester can be called a vampire , a rapist can be called a vampire , a person who beats his wife or child can be called a vampire , they each take something from you that is not freely given. yes vampires in the movies are very romantic and everyone thinks that it would be wonderful to be a vampire to walk at night ,never grow old ect.. but does anyone think about the fact that you had to kill people to live ,were always afraid someone would catch you and kill you , never able to have a family or sit in the warm sun.this is what I think a vampire is.
my theory on vampires is that i believe in the old vampire storys not any of this new shit like i like the old one that would keep to them selves or go in a pact you know
Some people have different views on what makes a vampire a true vampire.. shall we ever know?
If vampires were humans, I would have no interest in them. So I stick to the fantasy- that keeps my attention perked :)
I believe Vampires are an old lore that Hollywood has profited on. I like the whole concept, but I think its pure fiction.
A vampire to me is a being that looks like a human and can be hidden or seen
They feed on ppl's or a persons energy
I agree with LordXofXwar completely on this one. hollywood has taken a very old legend and cashed in on it. The definition of a vampire has completely changed over the years. He is absolutely right. This is because of hollywood. Film has had a large impact on what people believe to be vampires. People think that vampires are either a romantic sexy man that drinks blood or 2. a hideous bloodsick creature that is afraid of pointy sticks and gets really bad sun burns. I simply go by wikipedias definition.
1. A mythical reanimated corpse that feeds on the blood of the living.
2. Any living creature that feeds on energy of any kind for survival.
Stephen Kings characters in "Sleepwalkers" are vampires in my opinion. They could NOT survive without draining virgins of there energy. If you can survive without PSY feeding and drinking blood, you are NOT a vampire. Just going by the books here.
Whoa what? What do you mean? Ohhhhh. i think I get it. Vampires are killed by pointy sticks and you think they are sexy? Maybe I'm putting to much thought into it. But hey don't feel bad i think they are sexy too. Some people on here make a good point when they say that a vampire is any person that uses others. Like a wealcher/ low life. You know, that fat guy that smokes weed and sleeps on the couch. Lives with his momma and is 42. LOL. I can understand him being referred to as a vampire because that type of person does feed off of energy.
i'm coon seterd a half by some i dont thing ther are any full vampiers leaft if ther ever wore any ways i love blood and crave it but only from girls but woold never jest bite some one ied have to have ther permishion and more than likely be dating them i do git barnd by the sun verey esly but not all over jest my neck and back i cant tane eather i love the dark
if you have any qustions pleas mail me on this subject
Well, you asked about what I meant....I mean, that the vamp stories touch our primal instinct...to f**k and if the dance to that event is sensual and intense, then even better.
Vamps are power and sex. Course, I have broken it down to the core. We all want the power to not be put upon and it would rock to have the sex appeal to anyone we wanted. And to never age and have to pass away? Oh yea, sa-weet.
To me, vamps are undead creatures that exist only in myths, movies and books...that's about it.
Vamypreism is purely a lifestyle. Immortality and the Cliche'd hollywood versions don't exsist.
Oceanne made a great mathematical point. I believe that there is a form of Vampires but not in the hollywood sense. I believe that people live the lives of Vampires but I also know the difference between reality and fiction.
To me a vampire is something that feeds off other energies to survive whether it's blood, auras, elemental etc.
1. A blood-sucking ghost; a soul of a dead person superstitiously believed to come from the grave and wander about by night sucking the blood of persons asleep, thus causing their death. This superstition is now prevalent in parts of Eastern Europe, and was especially current in Hungary about the year 1730.
Right from page 1, I image a vampire as just this, yet with so many variations, and adaptations possible.
I also image vampires as a metaphor, in constant development.
blood dirnker and alot of them get the blood for enrgey
most powerful and members on the eternal darkness
Well Most people Believe Vampires to be these romanticised Creatures, When if infact they are real they are actually animated corpses! Corpses are not Attractive, Sexy or romantic, they are Bloated, rotting and most probably full of maggots! and they Drink the blood of living creatures! Taking the life so they are also murderers!
A vampire is any being which is sentient and gains from the consumption of the life force, blood or energy, of another sentient being. A vampire gains both power and a stronger life force, though it tends to be fleeting if consumption is not regular.

To me a vampire is anything that feeds off of another being.
a vampire can be someone that takes advantege of you , of your efforts .
can be the traditional fang and blood sucker person.
can be the animal that lives in caves and comes out at night...
a vampire is someone who feeds off another and it doesn't have to be blood
A vampire is a creature doomed to roam the earth until they finally meet their end. They spend their time either feeding on energy, blood or some other form of living. Blood may be aquired from people or animals. A vampire is a creature of heartache and lonliness
A Vampire to me is the exceptional example of power, beauty, and grace.
Love your answer Justine and i agree but i also think it is a lifestyle.
Vampires are several things, to me.
There's the myth- the hollywood vampire. Comes out at night, is immortal, feeds off blood, and is either a monster or a terribly beautiful, misunderstood creature.
There's the psychopaths...which is self-explanatory, crazy people who wind up in jail for trying to bite somebody to death.
I believe that there are psychic vampires, who feed off of energy. I don't believe that they are immortal, though.
I don't know whether an immortal vampire exists- I won't write that off. I believe that it could be, but I don't believe that they want to be found.
vampire are people who enjoy the tast of blood and drinks blood also people who feed of of energy are conciderd vampires these people are miss understood and a lot of people are afraid of them because they do not understand.
My personal opinion...... I don't think they are all technically "undead." I think this because during embrace you don't necessarily die, at least not right away. The human body will eventually still have the life functions stop, even though they are strengthened by vampirism. I never believed the supposed allergy to garlic, crucifixes or holy water. Anyone who has evil intentions or a demon would have a reaction to holy water, it is only water that has been blessed. A cross is a religious object, and therefore you would only have a problem from it if you were opposing Christianity. And garlic is just a strong and robust seasoning. I think there would be some sensitivity to sun light, but not to the extent of bursting into flames. I would think more of severely weakening them. It's just hard to think that a creature to strong and powerful would have so many kriptonites, so to speak.
Well hell, it just depends on what you watch, their point of view. On the new HBO show, TRUE BLOOD, you can drink the vamp blood and so far, not be one. In LOST BOYS you drank it, you became one. pfft....
hmm well a vampire to me
is just somebody with the vapirism life style nowdays
streched from many things from the past
It is simply the belief in a lifestyle that one possess.
I believe that the vampires we learn about in myths, movies, books, etc. could have existed at one point in time. Otherwise, how could someone create such a complex creature right off the top of their heads?
As far as modern-day vampires are concerned, I believe in the two most common varieties: psi vampires and sanguinarians. When it comes to blood-drinking, I myself do not participate in the ritual. However, if anyone would I'd recommend getting a donor who has been tested for any diseases so that you do not contract them yourself during feeds.
Vampires - whether they are real or still just figments of our imaginations, are still amazing creatures that we may never fully understand because of how different each species really is.
Vampires to me are a thing of mythology. I find that the idea of the immortal vampires is far too rediculous to truly believe in, since their existance has not been proven. Just stories of believers.
Well the way a lot of people see it is that if people can believe in ghost, UFO's, and other things than why can't they believe in vampires? To me a vampire is a reanimated corpse that feeds on the blood/energy of living things for survival. I am going by the books, but to many others the definition of a vampire is very different.
Hollywood and Bram Stoker have done a great deal to make Vampires popular romanticide creatures. However the original vampires even before Vlad were blood thirsty hunters.
Today's modern vampires feed off of blood and or psychic energy, are not immortal but do need to feed.
hollywood has pretty much ruined the vampire. they live for ever, live in the night etc.
vampires today have a choice of sun or moon light, they have a choice of blood and food, they are not going to ceices to exist if they are in the sun
xXShadowDravenXx -
What exactly are vampires today like if they even exist?
depends on the spirituality
some are psi
some are sang
eh some are kindergoths wanting to be vampires
Look up the definition of a vampire. It is on this site as well. it says here on the Rave that a vampire is a creature come back from the dead ro feed on blood of the living. I think that people contort that definition to be able to label themselves a vampire. I guess some people think that's cool.
darkxwhisper -
Actually the definition of vampire is different in every culture.
There are probably thousands of different types of vampires throughout every culture.
a vampire to me is an individual who thinks, feels, loves, hurts ect.. just like anyone or anything else does
LJONA -
Using that logic that would mean everything living would be a vampire. Is that what you're implying?
Hmmm well in the English speaking world that is the definition of a vampire. www.m-w.com look it up
Main Entry: vam·pire
Pronunciation: ˈvam-ˌpī(-ə)r
Function: noun
Etymology: French, from German Vampir, from Serbian vampir
Date: 1732
1: the reanimated body of a dead person believed to come from the grave at night and suck the blood of persons asleep
2 a: one who lives by preying on others b: a woman who exploits and ruins her lover
3: vampire bat
— vam·pir·ic vam-ˈpir-ik adjective
— vam·pir·ish ˈvam-ˌpī(-ə)r-ish adjective
Notice it says one who lives by preying on others? This implies that they prey for SURVIVAL purposes. Drinking blood alone does not make one a vampire. Thanks Merriam Webster
But that would return to everyone being a vampire in some form of another.
LunaObscura
What i am saying is, we all know there are people out there who clam to be vampires, so insted of pissing them off, it is a matter of keeoing the peace
xXShadowDravenXx -
Wouldn't it be worth trying to get them to explain themselves to see what truth may or may not be even if the peace isn't kept?
In a way...yes you are right. But for SURVIVAL only. Like people claiming to be PSI vampires. they are only a vampire if they need the energy they feed on to survive. If they can live with out it they are NOT a vampire. I'm just going by the books here people.
That in a way does make sense.
Although, I must figure it impossible for one person to be both depending on the times of day or night.
I don't think one can simply stop being a vampire, can they?
Well some people consider it to be like a disease. With that being said a cure could be possible. I believe the allergy to daylight part was added throughout time. There is an extremely rare disease that causes severe photosensitivity to light though. To the point of boiling skin after a few minutes of direct sunlight. That doesn't make one a vampire either.
as said above by xxhollyxx its a lifestyle thats what i think when i hear vampire exspecially these days i mean you do not hear on the news person after person dieing from there blood being drained or ect ect some have the darker lifestyles today where they just add a little blood in there life theres no one turning into bats and flying to the neighbors house to feed off them i feel vampires are like u and or me able to do what any mortal being is capable of doing.. but just adding a little blood to there system as i said befor
I think its whatever you want the Vampire to be, however you see them is pretty much how you will see them until something happens to change your mind. it could also be said it's a state of mind for some.
vampires to me are beings that consume energy in one way or another from another living source,it could be done both physical as well as spiritual.
darkXwhisper -
What you're describing is porphyria, innit?
Which I believe is sometimes called the vampire disease.
But you are correct, that doesn't make one a vampire.
ZombieSushi -
If a vampire would whatever someone wanted it to be, how could it be possible that a vampire would be an inanimate object?
In my belief a Vampire could be classified as one who feeds on the weak.
yes! Thank you Luna! I couldn't think if it! They made a film about it called "Children of the Night." these three children had it and the little brother died in the playground from it. I'm sorry and I don't mean to ruffle any feathers here, but saying that the word "vampire" means whatever you want it to mean is like saying that "cat" can mean whatever you want it to mean. A cat is a cat, a vampire is a vampire. There is no bending the definition of the word so people can label themselves as such.
There was also a case on House about a girl who was allerigic to light. Nearly made her die too. Another 'vampiric' illness.
I think vampirism is a lifestyle.... Just my opinion.... yeah there are people with some of the symptoms, but they can be explained such as anemia, porphyria, and numerous other diseases...
GrieviousDemon does make a good point and looking at vampires as predators which i believe they are and most predators prey are weaker than the predator.
I do not know if i stated it before but to me it is a lifestyle.. It does not have to be all scary and spooky or blood sucking.. There are plenty of vampire out there that are not blood drinkers.
Undervampsgaze -
Do you have any proof of that? If so I'd quite like to hear it.
Then I am sorry but by every known definition of a vampire, what you describes is NOT vampires. Vampirism is NOT a lifestyle! Research it. As i said before, people bend the true definitions of words around so they can slap themselves with a "cool" label.
Same thing as saying that there is a "werewolf" lifestyle. Or a leprechaun lifestyle. No uh uh. i don't think so. And again....I am just going by the books here.
why not be a werewolf or leprchan lifestyle ??
as for leprcons there are them strong irish
people out there, i mean they might live a life style but maybe its not as big as the vampire lifestyle maybe there lifestlye is to contend to them selfs or others like them, greedy little rich people who do not want to share there money witrh no one.. but seriously and with the werewolf lifeastyles i think there are people out there who live that as well, go to a 24/7 k mart store youd be surprised to who youll see in there, and it not haveing to be halloween, theres people out there who stay to them selves and do not want to be labled or want attention by others... lok at the world and the secrets there are, how could any one doubt the fact of any type of lifestyles that can be here
FMF -
That would be any number of things more than a vampire. Care to explain?
Accepting one persons claim above another relies upon accountability.
a vampire is an inspiration to me and my writing and means freedom
Exactly how can you take a muthical creature and turn it into a lifestyle? There are religious lifestyles, gay/lesbian lifestyles ETC ETC. How can you turn an undead creature that feeds on the blood of humans for SURVIVAL into a lifestyle? Drinking blood is NOT a vampiric lifestyle. Look up the word "blood lust" and there you have it.
