I'm relatively new here. As a matter of fact this is my first topic starter. I see the Bite and Stalk buttons and have been bitten and obviously some people are stalking me. I have not bitten or stalked anyone. I see on profiles people warning not to bite or stalk them.

What are your views on the Bite and Stalk thing? Is this some way that people say hello? Do others bite or stalk for other reasons?

I'm just looking for opinions on the Bite and Stalk features of VampireRave.

Some bite to say hello and see if someone wants to talk or to let them know they had been rated, as for the stalking well I know some stalk to see how active a person is on VR LOL I do not do either myself yet hey bite or stalk me all you want ...LOL

I view a bite from some one as them just saying HELLO, and I usually respond by saying HI back. Stalking I think is useful for a few reasons..... like if you're being competitive, you can keep tabs on how many forum posts a person has made or profiles they've rated, and you can try to stay ahead of them. I thought it was pretty different myself, when I first started on here too.

LOL, what's pretty interesting is you can stalk yourself - just tried it (I didn't think it would work). It's a quick way to call up your own stats.

i have been stalking myself for like 3 months now lol =P i bite people sometimes just to say hi, but thats not how other people view it

ive always assumed that its a way to say hi. im sure the meaning of it is taken different ways by others. hmmm stalking myself..would be an interesting thing to try

Oh some people go nuts over bite/stalk -who cares. Long as I'm not stalked in real life go ahead BITE ME Stalke ME. enjoy it all : )

I bite when i rate a profile it is my way of greeting the person

I'm old school. I'd prefer a message to a bite, hence my turning that feature off. And stalking as well.

BONES - I have been reading the VR Manual. I've read quite a bit of it and every time I come back I read more. I have read about the Biting and Stalking.

Biting can be fun sometimes, though it can also be rather annoying. That, and consider stalking a way a VR member tracks your movements. Sometimes Coven Masters do it, and there again if you piqued the interest of a member they might do it themselves- for themselves. With that said, I post this on my profie:

Oh, a few things. If you bite me, I will bite back- I always do If you decide to stalk, I will eventually stalk you right back. I'm not a premium member (yet), so I can't tell who's stalking me... for now.

As a premium member, you can block biting, and possibly block stalking. I may be wrong about the stalk part, but at least you can see your stalker as a PM.

I bite to say hello and some also bite to let you know they have rated you. LOL I stalk people to keep track of stats I am competitive LOL

My post wasn't directed towards just you, but to anyone who reads or posts to this thread. Not everyone knows what Biting and Stalking are, nor have many read the Forum rules (evident by all the RIA'd threads you and I see), or the VR manual itself (evident by some of the Acolyte questions I see). ;)

I, personally do not enjoy the 'bite' feature. Stalking, I do not mind. A lot of people use the bite feature for a seedier purpose than a simple greeting, though there are also a lot of people who click 'bite (insert user name here)' use it to say hey. I do not bite people, I stalk only those in my coven.

I think its just a show of affection , obviously they read or saw something that drew them to you profile so just take it as a compliment..thats what i do.

I consider the bite a good way to get the conversation going with someone that you have never spoken to before, or to let someone know you are on if you are lurking, I think its great.

The bites seem to be a way to say hello from the way folks use them. Not sure about the stalking though, no one is stalking me so I hardly have to worry about the significance of it.

People bite me all the time. Sometimes people bite to say hi, or even to hit on you. The whole stalking thing I never got. I think it's a thing most people do, or want.

I really never get bit, but it's just a way of saying hello like it says in the vr manual. stalking, is a good tool to see how active your coven members are if you are a coven master, etc.

Yes the VR manual explains it BUT different people use them in and for different things. Some bite to say hi, some bite so that you don't miss that they have rated you, rhey use it as a reminder to return the rate. Some bite to flirt.

Stalking. I myself on both my profiles only use the stalk button when I see a potential member for my coven and wish to keep tabs on them to see how they progress and when they are close to reaching Caitiff.

I truly donot mind both, biting to say hello or getting someone to talk that may not, stalking is like admiration of anothers writing or profile and when you get the nerve to talk or visit their page you can go there without hunting for them.

well I view bitting as a greeting to say Hello, but like said earlier others have different views on it, as for stalking I use it to check the activity on others, and myself LOL yea im stalking myself, but it's easier to do that than to wait an hour to see how many things in the Vampire database you have rated and stuff

well most of the time when i bite some one it's because they bit me lol
and im only stalking my daughter and thats because shes stalking me LOL

I personally bite and stalk people here. When I bite someone its for the following reasons.

1) To welcome

2) To say hello

3) Form of emotional expression

when I stalk someone its for the following reasons.

1) Hidden intrest

2) Returning the act

3) To show intrest

Sometimes biting and stalking can be misconstrude and taken out of context. To which will seem quite creepy, but I believe overall its part of being here on VR and don't have a problem with either being bit or stalked.

When I first joined I found the stalking a little creepy, but I'm not bothered by it now.

The bite is a good way to just say hello etc, I don't mind either.

i bite to say hello and i only bite people who have bitten me first so that i dont make too many people mad. and also out of respect. i do hope this helps you out a lil

well I bite to say hello or to see if someone wishes to talk. I mean if they are busy they may just blow it off and well you can figure it out. LOL I stalk my members in my coven and friends and myself for the fact to see their activity and to also because I am a freak like that LOL If I am stalkin someone outside my coven it is as was said mainly for admiration of the person... everyone does it or not for whatever reason.

I've never used the bite feature ever in the god knows how many years I've been here.
Rather just message and say hello... which even that is super rare.

As for the stalking thing, I tend not to use that either.
But there is one of two special peoples on the list.

I use the stalking button to see what all people are doing in my coven see if they are active members.

Biting is a way to say hello for most people that just cant get that conversation started.

I tend to bite people just to say hi and that's usually just a response to the fact that they've bitten me first. And I'm only stalking "friends" on VR, people I actually occassionally talk to. If I don't relatively know a person on VR, I don't do either one. I don't really care if I'm bitten or stalked, and as I'm so far only being stalked by one person, I can't really say that people enjoy doing it to me either...lol, whatever your take on the subject, it's all good on my end. ;)

I think the bite and stalk thing are a good way to get to know someone. like if you stalk someone, you can see how active they are on vr or you can do it just for fun. :) I think the biting is just a way to say hello. I rarely bite people, hardly never, but i get bitten a lot. I like the biting and stalking. although i do neither, it's a good idea. I'm currently being stalked by four people, so it's all good in the long run. :)

It seems to work for some people. I guess you find out who when you use the option :)

I take the biting, as a way for someone to give you a quick shout out. I personally don't do it. If I want to say hello, I just say hello to that person. I have never used the stalk method either. I don't have any problem with either of these, I just don't use them myself.

a bite is a way of saying hello I have a premium account so I have it disabled. If people want to say hello they will have to use words.Stalking lets you know when a person is active on vr. It also boosts yoru stats the more people you stalk and the more people you have stalking you.

I bite or stalk no one, and I've made it so that no one can bite me, but I'm stalked by 14 people I think. Like I said, I don't like or use either thing.

The only time I use biting is when someone pissed me off for something. A lot of people will bite me, and I will message back and they won't respond. pisses me off. As soon as I become a premium i am disabling that feature. Stalking, I use it too se if people are active before I induct them. I will talk to them and see if they are interested first, but it's a good feature to keep an eye on peoples activities. it just shows there log ins, rates, ETC.

using bite as a punishment thats a pretty good idea.

I think there should be a "hump" option cuz I would rather have a stranger hump my leg than bite me.

but i love to bite people, it means hello coming from me, and i only stalk friends and coven member, but i don't mind who stalks me, the more the better

I don't normally bite but I do stalk my friends to see if they have been online and I don't care if people what to know if I am on line. People bite me all the time I am not sure if it is done as part of saying hi but you can do it for your own reason just don't expect people to know why your choose to bite or stalk them unless you tell them.

i dont just bite unless i am bitten myself to say hi as for the stalking i do it because i like seeing how my friends are doing and they are the only ones i stalk

biting is a form of saying hello, which i use, or just letting my friends i haven't talked with in awhile to say hey, miss talking to you. stalking like the above posts states stalking is a way to see if your friend or possible friends are doing and if they update their profile page. plain and simple.

Some people get really offended by being stalked or bitten here. Others realize, it's merely an ice breaker. Or with stalking, a popularity contest on who can get the most stalkers.

Yes, biting and stalking. hahhaha. The peoples that come to your page every day but never say hello. just bite and run. As premium Members we have the opton to turn that off.

I think stalking is a waste of time and energy....

I have the "stalking" feature blocked because I don't like strangers knowing too much about me....

and I believe "biting" should only be used between friends.... I also have "Biting" blocked.... because I find it very creepy when strangers especially of the male version "bite" me.

The bite button is a way to say hello, I also think some people use it as a icebreaker to start conversations. I use stalking to keep track of the activity of all my coven members

If I get any creepy messages, I put the creeps in their place and move on - no big deal.

I've never really thought about the biting as a way to say hi, I've been bitten quite a few times. Guess I'd better say hi back to the people :)

Bite is a easy way to say Hi. Some have trouble with words and are shy.

What is sad is when some here don't see that some are shy and use the bite as a hello only; they think everyone is out to try to 'cyber' with them...NOT!

That is true, Isis. People just hate it and assume others are using it be flirtatious. It's an ice breaker, that's all. I get that some people aren't as good with opening lines for first impressions as others. It's no big deal for me to get them, but I wouldn't use the bite option myself :)

i was told to stalk my self so i could keep track of my favors ... most covens and houses will stalk new welps and others of course to size them up as members for thier own family

bites are hellos to me thoe i been told by others they consider it sexual hey i say we do what we do and if someone dont like it oh well block them LOL

Well that's another good reason. I stalk myself to pay attention to how many profiles I have rated in a 24 hour period as well.

I don't stalk anyone, but if some one bites me I just bite back.

I haven't used the bite feature myself. If I have something to say I'll leave them a message. I can appreciate it if people bite because they are shy, but to be honest, unless someone actually writes a message with more content than a bite or "wassup" I usually don't reply. It's nothing personal.

I agree. i use it to get someones attention. (very rarely) and I also bite when someone said or posted something that pissed me off. When they message back after the bite I inform them of what they did too set me off. lol

I used to not mind being bit so much when i was first here at VR.
Later it started bothering me a bit that when someone would bite and i would respond with hi how are you people would not respond.
I think if you have time to bite someone you have time to respond to their hi back.
After that happened so often i finally put on my profile that i would not respond to biting etc.

When I first set up my profile i started getting bitten almost from the get go, and at first it was amusing, but after a little while it was very tiresome not to have someone simply say 'hello, welcome to vr' or something simular, i mean how hard could that be. Thankfully being a PM i could block the biting.

I haven't used the 'stalking' facitity at all and I don't believe anyone is stalking me but I don't think it would bother me, as long as i could see who it is, which i can:)

Sorry, I have to ammend the stalking part of my post. I just found out i am being stalked! How wonderful.

I occasionally bite to say hello if I come across the profile of someone who looks interesting. It sort of feels a bit more recognised as saying "Hello. You seem interesting. Let's chat" than actually saying that - which I generally feel a bit silly and self-conscious saying.

I don't bite to say hello, because if I had something to say to someone then I would just send them a message.

Biting can be fun if done right

I see nothing wrong with biting or stalking. Some people use biting as a way to say hello. Biting can start of conversations.

Most people don't like it because they're too lazy to keep checking messages. My opinion.

I have both the biting and stalking turned off myself. It can be a bit of a bother for me especially when I have no interest in talking and people are constantly trying to bother me. If they are so interested in talking to me, they can simply send me a message like any other person.

i think biting and stalking are generally fun. biting is a way to greet or show interest when theres not much to say. stalking shows someone that there's interest, and of course its just plain stalking. i don't care when people do either. i don't bite much anymore.

Im going to turn biting off as soon as i become premium. It bugs me because a few people will bite me 5 and 6 times in a row GRRRRR. it's not that we are lazy, it is they who are lazy for just biting. ;) if you have somethin to say say it! i don't mind it once or twice, but 6 bites in a row is pushing it.

I am a premium member and i would never turn mine off. its just to much fun to bite others and to be bitten!!! its like a flirt or a ramndom hello. and the stalking button its good fun too!!!

some people find it just for fun, some people find it as a way to say hello. Some even use it to flirt with one another. I personally can't say I've ever been bitten by a male user of the site, although anything is possible. Either way, biting is more or less just a small gimmick that Vampire Rave happens to offer to fit in with the styling of the site.

Stalking is a easy and fast way of saying hello. I use it from time to time. However, some people that you bite just ignore it. They view it as if you can't say hello then they won't respond. I stalk everyone in my coven. Its a good way to see if someone logs on and what they are doing. Kind of nosy huh? lmao

tainted i do the same thing stalking all my members of my coven for the same reason. I dont think its being nosey, we have to make sure our coven members are active.

I personally dislike biting. If you want to start a conversation with someone, read their profile and send a message saying hi and something in their profile you liked, disliked, had questions about or even have in common. Give the person something to reply to. Show them you are interested enough to read their profile. A lot of us put work into it so use it.

I guess people stalk you becuz they like you or think your cool. And ppl bite to say hello. I almost never bite anyone, I think they are way annoying. And I am not stalking anyone, I prefer not to.

Yea so do I, i bite back with a pic i made for it ^_^ so bite be stalk me i don't care as long as your not stalking me in real life it's all good ^_^ although it would be nice if they told me they were stalking me so i could do the same

I don't care if you bite me or stalk me...it is not in real life so have fun with it. I bite very few people myself and stalk only a couple of others I call close friends

I don't care if someone bites or stalks me. I stalk myself to see stats, and a couple of others I have been friendly with. I rarely bite people cause some have an attitude about it. If I get bit I will check out the person and either reply or ignore them. No problem, it's a VR thing and I don't take it seriously.

I only bite people I know - or return bites to others.

As far as stalking - I only stalk if someone asks me to.

I personally like personalized bites!

well I agree biting can be fun, but people have taken it too far with me. "You have 12 new messages!" And they are all bites from the SAME person! That is so annoying! ugh! lol

I stalk myself so i can see how many profiles i have rated. how many posts i have made.I do this to keep track of my leveling up stats i do not stalk any one i am not competing.
I bite when I have something to say to the person because I want them to know I thought that their profile was really great.
I like bites lets me know people have visited my profile.

I believe biting is a way to say hello or if someone likes you and knows you are "looking". I think stalking has a few different reasons as mentioned above. I stalk due to a requirement of my Coven and to watch a few new VR members for potential induction
