Okay, I have a hardcore comic obsession -- to the point of probably unhealthy...
That being said I am here to start trouble *grin*! Actually, Im just a nerd who reads way too many comics.
Batman is great, but an easy bandwagon with the movies. He isn't a Superhero, per se, just a billionaire with split-personality and a hard case of vigilante in his blood. Do I love him any less? Nope! Still, by definition, he has no super human abilities whatsoever. Can't compare him to Daredevil -- Daredevil is not a human anymore.
Catwoman: A hot schizo, who is self-serving and not a superhero. She does have superhuman agility and a bit of strength (and is super hot) but the buck stops there.
Green Lantern: Take away his ring and he is just a hottie in green tights. Still, I love his comics and have quite a few
Spiderman: Speaks for himself. radiocative spider bite leads to super human strength and sleepless nights of crime fighting. Unless he's got a Venom issue, he is solid (btw, the movie didnt even touch the comic story!)
Superman: Vulnerable to green, red and yellow kryptonite and is nothing without access to solar power. He is killable.
Wolverine: Now we're closer to superhero -- healing abiilities, adamantium skeletal structure! However, he is very fringe and two "Bubs" away from snapping. Still, he does fight for what's "right" and that's his saving grace.
Now, Rogue: She is the daughter of Mystique and sister to Night Crawler. She didnt have all her powers until she got caught up with the wrong crowd of villains and eventually absorbed the abilities of flight, etc (long and great story)
Storm: she is already African royalty and a weather witch. She's moral and tough as nails (like when she beat Callisto and became leader of the Morlocks)
Jean Grey: Superhero, hot and brainiac -- just don't bring out Dark Phoenix or Madlyne Pryor (Goblin Queen; dead now, but the catalyst for Dark Phoenix)
Professor X is my god! I find him to be amazing on every level. When he had legs, when he became paralyzed, when he was hooking up with Dr. Moira Taggart... He can own any character you throw his way. In the actual comics, Dark Phoenix could not take him out. Telekinetic, super intelligent and some bald guys carry it off very well!
Beast: An absolute genius, save for the fact that he was the one who turned himself blue and furry by accident....
Witchblayde: Sara Pezzini, good cop gone uber hero when she has her nifty gauntlet that is a part of her soul... Excellent story.
Another Image comic is TheMaxx -- hard to find copies of now, but at one point it was like Spawn and had a small TV following, It believe it was on MTVs Liquid Television (Aeon Flux debuted there, as well). TheMaxx looks like some creepy oversized Sasquatch of a bum in our world, but in an alternate world he is a big, creepy, oversized purple hero! The duality in the writing for the characters is fluid and non-stop...
Vampirella is wicked cool -- a vamp willing to throw down for humans! granted, she is a vamp Princess and not of our world, etc, so that might help the urge not to eat everyone (again, hottie)
Shi: Hell, a gorgeous samurai with the all the honor the Japanese could fit into one soul (cool to dress up as for Halloween, too!)
Someone asked about those who can communicate with animals: Jean Grey, Prof X, Aquaman, Mystique (though a villain) grrr cant think of others this late...
Blah, I could go on forever on this one.
Marvel comics, DC, Image or Top Cow comics (just to name those a bit more easily recognizable for those as not obsessed...) all have a different way of setting up their character personalities.. Marvel and Image seem to have more "baggage" psychologically than DC, in my opinion. I always found that interesting.
As y'all can tell I have so much info on this I don't know where to start or finish -- but i have tried posting threads like this for a couple of years and until Cancer set up the Dark Network, I couldnt really get them goign in General Discussion.
