What teachers, when you think back about your education, can you say had the most profound effect on you?
For me there were two, my tutoring teacher, Mrs. A ... she is the kind of person who looked at the individual as not just a student, but as a person. When you were doing poorly, she sensed it and she took the time out of her day to ask you what was wrong, and she really listened to what you had to say. Then she'd try to help you through it. As I found out today she is now the Assistant Principal at my old school.
The second was my Home Ec/Child Development teacher ... Mrs. K ... She just rocked, she'd laugh and joke with her students, but she also had a teaching style that everyone could understand. She remembers all her students, and she's had a lot, but she always makes you feel welcome, she to would listen to you and give you advice. She's also the one that told the whole class one day that she would be very afraid to meet me in a dark ally LOL Never did find out why she said that though.
Mr. P, my Alegra II teacher. He taught me that many things can have many different names. Like he called his stapler "The Little Red Fire Engine". It made realize that I can be many different people by many different names but still be the same person.
Ms. Frytt, my English teacher was a big help. she encouraged idividuality and free thinking. Mr Markoff, my Marketing teacher, taught us about tolerance and standing up for yourself.
In elementary school, a speech therapist Mrs. S... seemed to be the only person who was patient enough with me with my hearing disabilities. And an Asst. principal, Mr. E.. saw me sitting in a classroom alone, came in, took the time to come sit by me, and help me with my school work.
Never will forget them...
In High School: Mr Allred, my drama teacher - who taught me that facades are bad, and to not be afraid of showing my true self. He also taught me how to let go of inhibitions, and how to enjoy life for what it is.
Probably my sixth grade teacher. She encouraged me to write my book of poetry, and then publish it!!!! That was probably the coolest teacher i have ever met. MY BOOK COMES OUT IN A MONTH!!!
Life, and Time, poems of the future!! enjoy...
I can honestly say, not one teacher truly helped me in any way, shape or form. Almost everything i know, all of my talents and skills i have grown/developed myself. I have many 'teachers' and they are all on my book shelf, they never grow old and they never fail me. They teach e better than anything in this dark world i dwell in. Books!!! The answer to true teachings!! Thy who teaches himself, will always make the grade!
I think you are the only person to teach yourself something, the best lessons are learned when you learn them yourself
I had a Judo instructor back in the early 90's. He was like a second father to me. I learned all kinds of "life lessongs" from him. He was hit by a train in his car. I still miss him and wonder what wonderful things I missed out learing from him.
Mrs. Lane at high school.
She taught me English and Drama (my two best subjects) adn she did a lot for me, and put a lot of free time into making sure that I got the best results I could.
I saw my college teaher Vicky the other day, she's come to uni to do her masters (she did theatre too, adn is the one who recommended Lancaster to me) and we got quite drunk together, which was odd ;-)
Teacher? hmmmm. *has a think* I'm not sure, i think my science teacher was a good teacher, taught us facts of life as well as science... how people are stupid and how we're all going down the pan. he was a great teacher but his attitude to us as students kinda sucked.
but then again, i've been taught other things by other people who aren't teachers...
even though im still in school, there are/were 3 people who influenced me greatly!! mr.burns my history teacher in england. parminda the school councelor(excuse the spelling); and my favourite senorita brache!! my spanish teacher!! spanish is my favourite subject!! ms.brache always helps me, she is never to busy to help a student.
My belly dancing teacher! *wiggles* she taught me that bellies don't have have to be straight, and that in fact its quite sexy to have a little bump to flaunt around. What do you say Squid? heh
I would say 2 teachers. My algebra teacher because of her, i learned so well that i won an award for highest average, 10th grade. Then i would say Mrs. K biology. She made sit up front but i learned better and got more into it. Then my geography teacher anthony. He was humorous, yet serious and kept us all interested. That's my 3 picks. lol
Elementary school it was my speech therapist Mrs. S. she helped me alot. and helped me to talk better, i had problems saying my R's and when i was a little kid my mom could only understand me but every one can now. she was the best she used to give me her fries from wendys. hehe.
Middle school...um...i dont know and same with high school. just all the people that helped me with my learning problems. they all mean so much to me. they believed in me when i thought i wanted to quit cuz i couldnt do it.
just thought of a high school teacher. My one art Teacher Mrs. Rudder she loved all my ideas and she got me to get back in my art again too.
My art teacher for grade 10.....
she taught us to think outside the box....frequently got herself in trouble with her superiors who were trying to squash individuality.....she taught us that we needn't always follow the rules.....or the sheep.
Whooo hooo trip back in time. I would have to say my 10th grade Math teacher Mr. Mal. He taught me everything I know of higher maths in one single semester. He had a way of thinking that was just beautiful and clear.
I think that my most infleuencial teacher was mt 7th grade science and launage arts teacher, Mr.Nakai
My welding teacher, Funny huh? Welding but he was a kinda guy that would push you into anything that you loved and made you persue it. He would always say total commitment or none at all. He just had a great outlook on shit, plus very southern and humerious, I did'nt like my spelling teacher much, can you tell?
The lead high school teacher at my school... she called me while I was in the hospital to make sure I was okei, took me outside during the day to talk me down when I was manic, she was like my best friend and always there for me.
I would have to say my high school art teacher. He always knew what I was thinking and knew exactly what I was thinking when I painted or drew something. He opened up my creative side.
One teacher I wont forget that never had an influence on me because I couldnt stand her was a teacher that feared me for some reason. Well, maybe because since we had classes alone without a teacher she would sneak over and be nosey. I would stand on a chair and declair myself the anti-christ. Sit down and talk as tho nothing happened. hehe
I once had her husband as a teacher for a day in a history class. He read my name off and suddenly fear came across his face.
:: smiles:::
The things you have to do to get remembered
my french teacher in H/S....she made me eat snails....thats when i knew i hated the french, not loved them....
my AP European History teacher, she made me realize i loved european history and had a passion for europe and anythign to do with europe and history...hahaha
an elementary teacher Ms.Glenn, a short troubled divorcee with delinquent kids who hated me and wanted to fail me just because i wasn't American...she made fun of me because i was hispanic, chunky, and didn't know english @ the time....the cause of all my issues and self esteem problems up to now...
my college psychology professor....
.
.
he gave me therapy
.
only he didnt cure me, he damged my psyche even more..
can you tell???
x_x
My biology teacher, she taught me the frailty of life... just like i have read Faust for countless of times. Sigh... I missed dissecting those animals, and they were still alive when we were opening them up. Well it was to see how their internal organs work of course. Well actually I like all of my science teachers when I was a kid till today makes a good impression. I don't know science must be my fave subject I guess.
One teacher stood out among all the others, my 3rd grade teacher Mrs N. I fell extremely ill and was out of school for the course of 3 weeks, and when my father went to pick up my schoolwork for me, she had gifts waiting for him to bring home to me..I still have them actually. She always acknowledged my individuality and encouraged it. She got it...you're supposed to encourage a child to be a strong individual, not force them into being a mindless drone that sits emotionless and responds mechanically.
She was the only teacher that impacted me, my primary school music Teacher Mrs G was also very fond of me though, she seemed to just adore me...Those were the times that everything was alot simpler...I think back on it alot...But yeah, all my other teachers were crabby old bitches who I could really care less about. Half of them were nasty old snapping turtles..and the rest were rabid pitbulls...oh how lovely my time was...Atleast there were the few that mattered..You always have to go ass-deep in sludge before you can reach something good...that sludge being all the bullshit people that try to make your life a Hell.
I'm going to ask my students what I influenced them! hahahah!
my teacher that influenced me my brother he is not a professional teacher but he is cool so
i'll have to agree with you Emmy on that one. a lil bit o jello goes a long way for shimmies. no need for a surfboard tummy. does you no good!
my high school band teacher, Mr. Boyd, was a great man and awesome teacher. Not for any reason other than really teaching me to enjoy all aspects of music. Always had fun in his class. yes, i was a band geek. :p
well, i think the teacher that impacted me the must was my 8th grade english teacher mr.b..... i miss him so much. he was just funny and really connected to us. he was so friendly and every lesson to life. he alwaysd told it how it was and never held back his opions and feelings. I miss him so much. i don't think i ever learned so much in one year as i did with him. he was great.
he was also my chess team coach so we were close and he always messed around with me. he was AwEsOmE
there were some teachers who were good to me and others didn't.I had my guidance teacher who really helped me and even my principal was nice to me.There were also teachers who disliked me.They told me I was stupid and worth nothin cause I was bad in their subjects.Just by being bad at some subjects doesn't mean someone is stupid, so I disliked them. However I have to say my best teacher was myself and had the toughest lessons, although sometimes she doesn't do her job well lol:P
No teachers influenced me or helped me ...they ignored me because i didn't require help....i learned far more reading the books they handed out and twittered about than listening to them and their pointless regurgitation of the subject. I did very well without them.
well im still at school no teacher has influenced me most and i also do comunity service at a primary school near by and none of them have influenced me either
i have been 2 3 primary schools, 1 collage and i do comunity service at 1 school totle of 5 schools=lots of teachers none influenced me at all, probly cause i think school is boring but still
my grade 8 english teacher..... she said I would never write anything of any importance.... Mrs Ronda Punga grade 2 tryed to have me declared mentally retarded.
Mr Regeir for a dry sorta contagious wit that infected every surface of his class room and for inserting the thought that world events were cause and effect . Because if that is true then the world is just as controllable as a chemical reaction..... you just have to know enough to change the right ingredient that you have.
Mr Ericson for being such an evil twat that I was forced to revise my position on authority figures....
he tossed me from highshool in grade 11 and I enrolled in college or is it collage ;) any ways my grades shot up about 40% and I exited with a 3.79 gpa.
The world for being consistantly suprising and marvelous and depressing all at once.
I guess that's the ones I can think of right off the top of my head.... I'm still learning tho....
I just have a favorite teacher, i don't think any of my teachers really had a big impact on me.
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Skadburg, I had her for 3/11 years. She was my Kindergarten, 2nd, and 3rd grade teacher, I'm still in contact with her even though i live several hours away from where she teaches, she even came to one of my concerts, but that was when I ly lived a 1/2 hour away from her.
hummmmmm, I would half to say one of my high school teachers Mr P. I was a bit of a stoner in high school. He did not judge me for that but instead treated me with respect.and helped me with some family issues that I had at that time.
Too many teachers now think they are babysitters its sad to see..
My tech teacher through High School probably had the biggest impact on me. He was young, unorthodox, threw out most of the traditional rules of teaching. He was really laid back, didn't care about cussing, cussed more then several of us, if we felt bad in class, he'd tell us to go lay down on our desk and sleep, and catch up on our work later when we felt better. He was as much a friend to all of us as a teacher. Due to that environment, it was a lot easier to learn. Even with all the goofing off we did, his classes would nearly always have all of the coursework finished 2 weeks before any other teacher in the school at the end of the year. He got us volunteer jobs doing tech work outside the school, mainly with our Cisco Networking classes. When we were on an outside wiring job... he insisted that we call him by his first name, because in that situation, he wasn't our teacher, he was a co-worker. We need more teachers like him. He loved what he did, and threw out the rules to make things interesting, and comfortable for his students.
My most memorable and most influential teacher was Mrs. Haynes. She didn't give up on me when I was at a point in my life where nothing was going right. She lifted my spirits and with that she changed my life.
alrighty..ive just discovered teh forum as it would be said...so sry if this line is a bit dead...
my most influential teacher was my biology teacher...i only had him for one semester, but i learned a lot from him. my quote in my pro came from a sign he had in his room...for those who dont know it:
there is so much good in the worst of us and so much bad in the best of us that it hardly behoves any of us to talk about the rest of us.
he was really awesome, and i still talk to him when i see him. though it cant hurt much that he curved the final that managed to give me an a...which brought my grade all they way up to a c...
My 10th grade English teacher opened my eyes to poetry and many other things. He might not know it but when I did my writing assignments for him I wrote them to make him and myself proud. Thanks to him I have entered many of my writings into contests and have won a good number of them.
Mrs. R also helped me find the true me and learn how to accept myself.
Mr. Racz opened my eyes to the world and thanks to him I read the newspaper and watch the News everyday!
Alot of my teachers influenced me and I cannot give credit to just one.
But, what I would like to know is what this thread has to do with Vampires? My forum post got deleted some time back and I assumed it was because it did not have anything to do with Vampires, but then I see threads like this one and it makes me wonder.
Well I don't know why yours was RIP'd, you'd have to ask one of the mods about it ...
But I actually had spoken to a mod about placing this thread to begin with. And I appreciate everyone who contributed. Any others feel free to add to it. Thank you all >;^***
The French language teacher, because she is the only one who does something with us what will really help.
My most influential teacher was my 10th honors world history teacher, Mrs. Hazen. She was one of the most genuinely kind and caring people I think I've ever met. She never judged me and always let all her students know they could talk to her. I had a very tough sophmore year because of several things, but through all that, she never judged me, just listened which is the one thing I really needed at that time. Unfortunately, it was a very conservative high school, and the differences she tried to make in diversity and openness were not rewarded like she deserved. I still go back and talk to her, and she was probably the only thing that kept me sane during that year of high school.
For me, it was Mrs. Fox, my 5th grade teacher. When I was in 3rd grade, I was diagnosed with many illnesses and had to stay out of school from mid 3rd grade till the beginning of my 5th grade year. She would stay late, even though she had a family at home, and within 6 months, she had helped me catch up to the 5th grade. By the end of my 5th grade year, I was ready for 7th grade and skipped the 6th grade. She was awesome.
dont know if she counts but my mother. she introfuced me to wicca taught me many things about it. As with many other lessons just to think no detentions.
My most important teacher has been humanity. They have tought me to be cold to hate to burn
They have tought me there is little hope and to just as well as possible whilst being on this plane of existence with the hope that there is more afterwards
none of my teachers have really had an influence on my life for me it has always been my friends and family
Who says friends and family arent teachers
An infant learns through teaching of others
So does everyone alive
you stop learning you die
my 8th and 9th grade english teacher! Ms. C-N was an amazing lady, i always loved this teacher, she was the only one of a few that didn't judge me by my bad report card or # of times id been suspended. However she was the only teacher who really cared about her students, she cared about me so much and makin sure i did the best i could cause she seen my talent beneath my "troublemakin beahvior" because of Ms. C-N i am a nicer person and feel a lot better about myself too...she's kind a like a hero!
I cant say any of them...at least not by some special way.
my english teacher in the last three years of school... she is the most patient person ive ever met, and acted towards me almost like a mother, at a time where my real mother was basically the biggest problem i had...
well a couple of years after i finished school she got promoted to assistant head... so i guess i wasn't the only one who loved her. i owe her a lot... we're still in contact to this day in fact and she's still the one person that has never ever let me down :)
Hmmm thats a very hard one indeed.
Well i guess i'd have to go with Socrates
The developer of philosophical thought concerned with the analysis of the character and conduct of human life.
Her name is Mrs. Lance... I loved her to death... but really I would say my friend is also my elder so technicly she's a teacher to me as well in my craft. But we are all teachers as well as students
But as I think of it , it wud probably be my french teacher, cos shes the only one in this screwed age who cares and really tries to learn us SOMETHING. Shes so cute person...
Dixie Lenz.
9th grade English teacher, later the disciplinarian for the school, and quite possibly one of the most outreageous women I have ever known.
She convinced me to start writing, and taught me some building blocks for believing in myself.
my 2 fourth grade teachers. the one is now retired while the other died several years ago. i used to go back to my old elementry school to visit the teachers i knew and update them on how iwas doing. now my neice goes there and hopefully she'll feel the same way about the other teachers i had there.
