Vampires in daylight are not new. Dracula went out in the day. Adolescent longing and pining is not new, either, but all the "did he look at me, why didn't he look at me, what did that look mean?" doesn't resonate with me.

Doubtful it ever did. The two most influential books on me in the ninth grade were "The Diary of Anne Frank," and, "Catcher in the Rye."

i think its just fine we are a complex and uniqe creature coulture each with its own individural wiles n gifts its what makes us strive and entangle ourselfes withen the world that works around and with us so how is it a bad thing 2 be gifted with a walk under the suns warm embrace?

personally.....i kinda didnt rate the movie, i was really disappointed with it
i mean vampires in daylight.....and also when they went in the bright sunlight it looked like there skin had diamonds all over it O_o where does that come from???

I liked Twilight and for a vampire romance it ain't bad at all, and its got good suspense. To pick it apart and disect it is just ruining it. Take it for what is. If you want a bloody scary vampire movie, try 30 days of Night perhaps but for what Twilight is supposed to be it more than lives up to it. It's a PG-13 Vampyre romance, nothing more and quite frankly nothing less. It is it in my top 5 of vampire movies? No but maybe in my top 10. I can enjoy Twilight for what it is. I also enjoyed Saw V and 28 Weeks Later & Cloverfield. I actually enjoy all types of films but lean towards horror and all types of vampire movies.

Thing is.. this entry exists because of those who are showing this tosh down my neck.
And yes, tosh it is.. vampires for kids is what it is.
Geez, I liked Angel (hence the username) and that has romance, passion and felt right!

your entitled to your opinion but people of all age and sex love twilight...my older brother for example is 33 and loved Twilight...it's not the best vampire film and never will be but for what it is...it is good.

oh wow i have read so many vampire novels lately and they range from twilight the glowing thing, to taking meds that make them not allergic to as long as they feed first they can be in sunlight. I think it is way cool that vampire can be in sunlight now. Makes reading stuff more fun.

i think anything that gets kids reading is good.

my daughter is reading Moonlight(?), my son reads everything he can get his hands on. the best English Lit teacher i ever had let me do book reports on "It" and "The Stand". i think that is more important than simply not liking a movie.

I agree on all of it.
The books were better than the first movie and well now we have teenagers thinking vampires are cute and loving and love forever and such. It is silly what has come from it. We have people all over young and old loving the darn movie like its okay to be a vampire and love one and never look back. It is not that easy and never will be; it is a movie, and idea, and that is one who is more romantic .
Dont get me wrong when I was a teenager I loved nightmare before christmas, and frightnight and stupid stuff but um I was not insane like the masses are...
It is almost like Harry Potter insane and manic over that.

It is just a movie. That said, I don't mind the hysteria over it. It's a cool, fun, engaging vampyre romance. Let's not over analyze it and dissect and make it therefore into something it is not. It's meant to be fun. It includes humor, suspense and vampyrism. I mean it's not a movie in the vein of queen of the damned and never will be. It's not even meant to be. It's a romance, a teenage vampyre romance. Lets only judge it as such.

What has made Monsters Novelty ? Bunicula anyone? It is a book, what happens to books? What happens in transit? Now they got you to shell out for a book, and a movie, and it is coming out on DVD as well.

So now students are going around claiming to be " friendly vampires"to whoo the girls.. until the next heart throb is picked to put in
another Made from pop fiction book.

If they read other stuff in addition to TWilight, I'd agree with you on the at least they're reading viewpoint. Aside from the writing which is repetitive (but maybe it needs to be for the target audience), I don't embrace the values, specifically female martrydom.

I feel it is just like any other movie we all have our own opinion as to if it was a good movie or bad movie.

Myself I really liked it it was alittle different and refreshing take on the Vampire.

Books are usually better than the movies...with that said, the movie was okay for what it was...I was expecting more. And I haven't read any of the books.

As for vampires being out in the daylight - cool! I recall that Dracula and other vampires of old were suppose to be able to do this if they always kept dirt in their shoes from their native lands, and carried it upon their persons.

several points here.
first...as has been pointed out before, the whole "burst into flames when the sun touches you" is a fairly recent twist on the legend. before that, the vampire lost his powers by day, but could still be out and about.

second,...if the kid is reading comic books, he/she is still reading. if they are actually reading novels, im all for it. most people have no idea how many kids today have no use at all for books.


third...i cant really have an opinion on the movie since i havent seen it. i tend to like vampires somewhere between stoker and rice.

I haven't read Twlight specifally because it just doesn't interest me and because the author's religious beliefs (Stephenie Meyer's is a Mormon), but mostly because it just doesn't interest me.
Here's the thing people, popular books are turned into movies so that people/companies (the authors most of the time) can make money.

I thought the books were good, call me crazy. I don't feel so crazy though because I am surely not alone. I think I am more sick of the 'I hate Twilight' movement that just seems to be trendy amongst real vampire fans. I think that's a joke, we like what we like, we're all different.

I would never hold someone's religion as a reason to not read their books. God knows these books are SO not Mormon material. And I betcha there are plenty in her congregation that probably want her kicked out because of it. So now we have her catching flack at both ends- for being a Mormon period, and from her peers for writing a vampire series.

Let people be fans, geez. I don't want to live in a world where things I like are dictated because they're not 'cool', or because it's 'pop'. Be who you are. I'm not saying this pertains to you guys particularly, but I know a ton of people hate Twilight because of its pop following. What kind of reason is that to choose not to like something? That to me is true conformity- your clique doesn't think it's cool, people might make fun of you, so don't like it.

I like it, and I am confident enough in myself to admit it :) And you know what else, it doesn't bother me if you don't like it... it only bothers me when people are consumed enough to join a hate movement for it.

Hadn't heard there's an "I hate Twilight movement cause everyone else loves it." I thought the two books I read were tedious, but I read them because I'm interested in learning what sells. That said, there was a plot and despite all the adolescent and self-destructive meanderings (endless ones at times), I did want to find out what was going to happen. This is a Sign that a story is happening.

There are many "bestsellers" that have little characterization, inane language and so-so plotting, but literally hordes of humans glom onto the bandwagon. Personally, I find little comfort in identifying with those readers and I'm self-confident enough to say so.

Well, I can't say I hate it, because I haven't read it. The thing is I'm not interested in the teen-vampire romance, I was though at one point in time.
The point I made about me disagreeing with the Mormons was just an additional point why I haven't read it, I'm definately not saying if an author was a Mormon I wouldn't read their stuff.

Well they are listed as young adult reading :) I expected them to be just that. And enjoyed them for what they were.

What I was saying in regards to 'I hate Twilight just because everyone else loves it' is an opinion of what I have been seeing around, not an actual club or anything :P And keep in mind I was also careful to point out that I wasn't meaning to target people in this thread by saying it.

It's all subjective, really. I am cool with other people not liking it. I also understand that the targetted audience (young readers) are getting material for their grasping. I don't expect it to be any more, really.

I am personally confused as to what you are wanting to discuss here, however as to the 'vampires in day light' area, there have been many stories and myths about vampires and who knows which could be plausible or not? I have no doubt there have been stories in the past which point towards vampires being able to 'walk in the sunlight' as it were.

I think this is hillarious.

It's a series of books that don't pretend to be anything other than what they are....fiction.

The fact that they have created so much interest can only be a good thing, reading should always be encouraged.

It's fine if some people don't ejnoy them, and it's equally fine if they do.

Anyway I haven't read the books nor watched the movie.

I'd do maybe one day, but because I would want to not because of its popularity.

Anyway the majority of teenage girls won't be interested in the story much but only in the main character, this is the same thing that happened with Queen of the Damned, there's always a generation like this.

have not seen the move yet but read the book. what i hate i that there are a lot of people who think it is real and start to act the movie thinking it is real

i am not sure i will see the move i was so mad when i saw blood and choclate. it was diffrent from the book the only thing that mathced was the names and thats about it

I have never come across a person who thought it was real. Even people you find around here are just rpg-ing... and rpg is a fact in these communities.

The most interesting aspect of Twilight's phenomenal success is that the reader is rooting for the vampire, and not just the vampire, but the prospective vampire couple, and his family.

When Dracula lingered over Mina, we wanted him vanquished because he was bad, bad, bad (okay, I know some of you as itty-bitty toddlers wondered why the fabulous vamp had to die.)

The Twilight series like the Harry Potter series is for teens or tweens as the term is used.The books are a spin on the vampire/romance tale.They were not intended for serious vampire lovers to fall in love with,Meyer was trying to reach a new group of kids to appeal to,not adults.Even though a lot of adults read the books and liked them.You can like the story or the characters or dislike them but try not to bash others for their taste in vampire fiction.

I hate the book's and the movies. Ive read the first book, couldnt stomach the 2nd because there characters just seemed...perfect and uninteresting. It really is for teens and people who just love the concept of undying, endless & fateful love.

What i will say about vampires in daylight is this:
There are so many authors out there published and unpublished writing about the vampire genre. In order to break into and survive in the biz you NEED TO BE ORIGINAL. I dont think vampire's should be allowed in the light - Its a character restriction that allows conflict, but how many other vampire series can you name in which a FULL blooded vampire (no hybrids) can go out into the light?

I have not seen the movie or read the book, how many here critic something they have not bothered seeing. How sad would Movie Critic Shows be if they just said "Hated it!", "Liked it!"

Image says it well, The Hate Wagon is Rolling. So the next big vampire movie that deals with people who identify as vampires will draw those who identify as vampires, perhaps not because it is promising as a movie, but because they cannot wait to disect it, and insert their interpretations.

The books are just basic girl meets boy. Girl in danger,boy saves girls. Falls in love,breaks-up & makes-up. Simple romance novel. Fun not heavy reading. Vampire out in day why not? It's happened before , hollywood has re-written vampire b/4 so it will happen again. It's not real history.

I think Twilight is a great movie, although it does need some changes like the skin needs not to be all sparkly. Its not that bad of a movie or book, I've read the whole series and it was great! Vampires in sunlight is awsome cause that could give you an idea of that there might actually be Vampries near you and you dont know it.

i figure that if a book or movie sux, then people wont buy it/see it and it will lose money....that will pretty much end the publishers/movie producers interest in that subject (unless its political, but we wont go there! lol).
the market rules, and determines what we will read or see...or not. to get more of a type of product, interest must be shown in a subject matter.

found myself zoning out whenever i read/watched twilight and not bothering to re-read/rewind to recap because i knew i hadn't missed anything.

Personally, I think hollywoods is a great compliment to us. I am not too worried about what society thinks, so another vamp flick would simply fascinate me on how the big screen can adapt to something it does not completely understand.

Not that I will see Twilight, even when it comes to DVD format, as I am not into teen dramas. But at least hollywood is keeping the spirit alive.

For those who think hollywood plays a bad representation with "our kind", then that is their opinion. But in my view, I think many of us share the same philosophy, and with that, we really do not care about portrayals. We simply become amused.

Twilight is just that, another movie...Nothing more, nothing less. How about when another one of Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles comes out and it is seen in somewhat of a devastating light? What then? Would we have more critics saying a new movie did not do "our kind" justice?

Truthfully, if you were amongst "our kind", you would not care either way. This is the way of things. You may think you are among "our kind", but in all fact...Talk is cheap.

There is really nothing wrong with the vampire walking in the daylight...It happens all the time. We are not a dark breed, I thankyou.

Then it suddenly occurs to me, vampire meets "teenager"? Exactly how old is this vampire? How long ago was he either turned or born (Hollywood style, ladies and gentlemen, truthfully we are born, never turned.) as it seems rather pediphilic if the vampire is over 50 years. Would not this vampire go after something of its own age? Let us say, late 20's or so? I mean come now, just becuase he looks quite young, does not mean he has to go after the teeny-boppers.

Its a trend thing. I only read the first book because my friend said i should read it, at the same time she also pimped it out to anyone who could read!
Its possible for many that this is there first step into reading vampire fiction and to them its magical because they know no better lol.
I do know better, ive read much better series and so i cant just flick a switch and NOT compare it to what ive read before hand.

I don't see what is wrong with deviating to another sort of vampire. Many people feel betrayed because the traditional vampire was a rotting corpse, And now it's something more sexual and attractive because of newer authors. It's all fake. Authors can write whatever they like and invent whatever characters they like. Readers are entitled to enjoy it or not.

i don't see what the big deal is. Many people enjoy this new concept. So what if they are a bit fanatical? Why not just let them? If you don't' like it, don't like it then. There's nothing wrong with other people enjoying what you deem inferior in your own perspective.

What sells isn't always the best recommendation in terms of quality in both print and film.

I happen to like "teenage" films a lot, mostly the irreverent and rebellious ones like "Breakfast Club" or "She's the Man." I even watched "Superbad," so my taste ranges from sublime to quite earthy, muddy even.

The relationship between Edward and Bella says a lot about our culture and what makes the "average" teenage heart go pitty-pat.

He's the ultimate bad boy/outsider and what's not to like about that? Many parents liked that Edward and Bella didn't have premarital sex. He pulled back (not out), held off, resisted. She, on the other hand, melted everytime they kissed or embraced rocked by the seemingly superhuman desire adolescents think only they feel.

Maybe they do since it's all brand new.

The relationship between the two, and how he talks to her is the language of abuse. Edward stalks her, is very controlling, dictates a great deal. Bella seems to have only one talent ---- cooking. She seems to want to be controlled.

Does this mean all young girls want a master? Or only the ones who want to go steady with a vampire?

Bloodmother, I can accept your reasons fully. You aren't impressed with the story. That's valid.

For some of us, I guess as bad of a light as it may put us in... we identify with the story because it reminds us of our teenage years. Maybe we were in fact boring, I guess that's subjective. But there was a time when eye contact and all those little things were then, huge. Then again... for those some of us, they remain huge today :)

That's interesting that you saw Edward as verbally abusive, I didn't get that at all. And I know I am a strong woman - ask my husband how I react to him if he tries to even pull father figure shit on me :P

Depending on the dynamics of a relationship, some couples feel very comfortable with one being in more control, maybe because they really do have far more experience on this planet, like Edward does in the story. And that being said, it doesn't make them abusive. Yes, I understand you didn't say he actually abused her... I am just saying I don't even catch that going on.

I am as Images is I did not see any abusive talk going on toward her.

And I am a person who does not ever use the 2 words HATE and NEVER... to me they are to harsh and strong for many things and how one uses them.

I thought it was a good movie and kinda mellow for me yet refreshing to see the "Vampire" in a different light par say.. LOL

My opinion is that if it gets kids to read. To be willing to pick up a book then Why complain about the subject that brings on the onset of imagination.

These people that read these books are going to be the next generation of people on this site..the next people to explore new ideas in any subculture you can think of.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with the argument that the Twilight romance saga hinges on an abusive relationship at the core of the series, I’d recommend reading this. It could be said that that many pop hits circle around stereotypically harmful themes, and this is by no means unique. I would hope that we could admit the cases of abuse so that we do not delude ourselves into believe that it is ok to have a love interest break into our house to watch us sleep or to sabotage our car. In the name of love or not, the “over protective” and a “jealous nature” are terms to mask controlling and abusive behavior.

Do I hate this book? No, but I want scary or at least sexy vampires instead of emo high school drama. Perhaps I just don’t fit into the demographic that this novel appeals to.

I agree if a human were to sneak in and watch me sleep, it would be unacceptable. I think being a vampire gave him a coupon in this matter- I don't except them to do human things :P If I involve myself with a being other than my 'own'... I can only expect different behaviors.

I want to carefully craft my words as to not offend people- even though I have been unintentionally offended by people I really like here. Yes, I truly believe that no one was trying to offend me, just stating why they don't prefer this series.

I guess it had kind of been revealed to me that my views and things that excite me are juvenile. You have to see where I would get that impression here. I am not juvenile, and this is not an invitation for the, "I didn't say you were", because I am not accusing anyone of calling me that. I read here that some people don't like this because they have just moved on and are living in an adult world where these angsty teenage dramas have no place.

As I can accept why some of you dislike Twilight, I will try and explain why I like it in a way that my position at least makes some kind of sense.

When I was a teenager, I had a very boring boyfriend. I did not go for the gold with the people I really liked because of the idea of 'crash and burn'. Back then, I did not take chances. Today, I have no wonderful memories of sparkling chemistry in my youth. I wish I did. And since I don't, I like to read. It makes me think about how things would have been different if I were to have bit the bullet and said things out loud back then. I don't wallow about it, I instead am quite healthy and look to reading and relive my youth vicariously through these characters. I am fine with who I am today. I don't sorrowfully live in the past without the ability to act my 35 year old reality. I just read and enjoy. It's simple and it's entertaining to me.

As for any 'strange' out of line behaviors of this vampire- I really never dreamed to judge him through a human lens, he isn't human. For readers that can't make that differentiation and fantasize of a human boyfriend who does such things, they've got other issues. My fiction is fiction, I don't blur the lines.

For those of you that don't have any of this going on, that's perfectly fine. But there is an audience for this series, a huge one. I don't find myself a lame person because I am one of them. And I am not saying people are calling me lame either. I'm just saying I am cool with it.

Discussing books is fun. As long as people support their position, I'm cool. BTW, all the adult women in my book group liked the book. Some actually even went to opening night of Twilight and got a bang out of hearing all the teenies squeal and sigh every time Cullen uttered a word.

Since you started the flashback business, I will continue it. My mom worked as a cocktail waitress after she and my Dad were divorced. All her girlfriends were cw's, too, and every single one of them believed in "scarcity" in matters of love, not abundance. Many of them supported wastrel bf's, got knocked around, knocked up, but they always went back because of the love.

The loved it when their bf's stalked them, got jealous, sabotaged their vehicles: abuse and violence were a sign that the men cared.

I see that same behavior in my sister and in many of the young women here.

Yes, the vampire ethos makes the vamp the automatic Master, and yes, it is just a book and hopefully people will go on and read broadly, move beyond the vampire genre.

There is no comparison to the Potter books where the young people have huge tasks to accomplish and where the love aspect is a minor subplot.

Stephanie Meyer didn't invent this sort of love plot, but the movie industry has put the gloss on it. I believe with every atom in my body that the medium is the message.

I love that this hasn't become a nasty hate thread and that people are getting to freely speak ther minds,

when a friend once told me the twilight books were great to read i thought, i don't know it looks boaring, but i love them. they are just so intresting to me, i like that they go out in the sun and look as if millions of dimaon facist are in there skin, it is something so different to normal vampire books. they look like marble, the voices ring like bells... its a bautiful way to look at the vampires, and even the old one if they don't more begine to petrify, you don't see that in other books.

I personally am waiting for a book written by some one who has the "proper perspective" of vampires(meaning those who identify as vampires, though as far as I have seen, the community lacks imagination.

Like the Christ movie years back, Christians threw a fit about, the movie would have slipped through the cracks, had of not been for the Hate Promo
think how many people picked up the book, or are planning to see the movie, just to see what gets a rise out of so those that hate it.

Images I recomend a Critics Corner, impartial balance in critique is rare.

Has courting become obsolete?

I tried reading Twilight. After fifty pages, i got extremely bored.
Everyone is different...but I don't see the big deal about Twilight.It's kind of annoying to me that so many people like it because I think there are way better books out there that deserve more attention but once again...everyone is different.

I read the books and owned them before it became the latest craze. When I was reading it, people had asked me what it was about and thought I was weird/crazy for reading yet another book about the undead. I was done reading it for a while when all of a sudden, everyone at work had it... WTF?

So well stated. It is the degree of devotion to ones genera. Harry Potter brought Witch craft to the forefront.

The writer needs to have a steady consistscy, I would have like to have seen some of Lois Duncans books made into movies, I had a thing for paranormal matters , then all of a sudden , just like my Army said..

i love the book but didn't so much care for the movie. they made it go too fast and didn't spend much time on what should have been spent on. for someone that didn't read the book they wouldn't know how long edward and bella were together before the james situation.

in all actuality, i read the books before they became popular amongst all teens and parents. and i think the books are better than the movie could be.
the movie in it's own right was fantastic, but the books hold so much more character and ideals, than the movie could.
I always say, don't knock it til you've tried it, and i believe you should read the books, not just see the movie, and not just take the opinions of others on the movie.

ScorchedEarthErotica- that's really confusing to me... why would it annoy you that people liked it when there are so many better books out there? I love them, but I know they aren't the best books ever written. I love the band 'Journey', but I know it's not the best band ever. I love the joke, "A horse walks in to a bar, bartender says, Why the long face?" But its surely not the best joke ever written.

It doesn't annoy me that people like spaghetti when there are so many better pasta dishes out there. I would however be annoyed if someone prefered drinking bleach over a Mountain Dew. Because that's just, stupified.

I guess it is just really hard for me to understand when people get bothered by other people's preferences. The only thing I can grasp and respect is when people dislike something just because they personally don't prefer it, period.

Never read the books, never seen the movie and I'm quite afraid to do either because I've heard so many different opinions on it, but as everyone says: You're entitled to your own opinion. No need to overreact with it. It's just a book and it's just a movie, don't read it and don't watch it if you hate it so much. Choices, choices, choices. :)

I read the books as well as watched the movie and I like them both.
I can read things and take the fiction for what it is.
For what it was intended to be, it was good.

Yes, it has become more of a trend for teenagers because it was written for them. That's why it shouldn't be judged as if it were written for adults. If it went over well with its targetted audience, then they succeeded with their intentions.

Intentional Over reading into the Authors Story Area:

the Author, being a Mormon, creates the vampire to represent the heathen/non mormon, he is how ever everything a Mormon woman is raised to want, (controlling, possessive).

I don't know about any of that- the characters aren't Mormon, and the religion isn't even mentioned in the books. I think the Mormon thing is getting too big of a focus - but that's the nature of our society, we look at religion, race, and all those other things that have nothing to do with the real matter.

How many people watched Titanic? Leo Caprio anyone? The fact is, everyone is going to have something they go crazy over and sometimes it's going to be in masses. Who cares!

As far as walking in daylight, the movie 'Perfect Creature' has vampires walking in daylight and actually being protectors of human kind. This movie portrays a scientific reason for vampirism and portrays vampires as a "religious" brotherhood. Humans actually donate blood to the vampires.

The point is, there are movies and already out there that have a more adult tone. Twilight is fun, that's all, nothing more.

Me personally, it is all like a song played on the radio all the time. I like it at first, but after hearing it played over and over, I get sick of hearing it. Twilight is the same thing, I liked it at first but, after hearing Cullen this and Edward that all the time, everywhere I go, I'm sick of it.

i have not been fortuneate enough to see the movie yet ...how ever i mentioned this thread to a fellow vampire fan and he said the movie twilight was beat all the best ever ... i said i was a die hard interview fan and he claims i will change my mind. all i know is everyone has their own opinion and i will make mine when i see the movie ....iam surprised to see as much neggative responses thoe

no i have to disagree with your friend on that. Interview was way better than twilight. I mean the make up in twilight was horrid. The second movie has a different director so I have high hopes it will be much better and follows the book better. But I can say that twilight is not up there with interview.

I would have never thought to compare Stephenie Meyer to Anne Rice. They are totally different and write for different audiences as well.

Titanic is a good example of what I mean. The heroine becomes a stronger person because of her ordeal.

Don't know if Meyer wrote the original book with teens in mind or if it was packaged that way.

People read and enjoy books on different levels. I wish I could escape with escapist literature.

People keep saying they don't understand why this discussion is happening. That actually disturbs me more than the sentiments either which way.

Oh wow.... this is a fictional book... Why try to psychoanalyze it? I found the first book to be the slowest out of all 4 but still really good... Sure the movie was OK and of course I will by the special edition DVD but it was lacking main points... The second movie will be directed by the director of American Pie, so that has me reallllllllly nervous.

Why don't we psychoanalyze The Neverending Story next... It is fiction, don't try to put so much effort into figuring out the hidden meanings... Take it for what it's worth... Fiction, a cute vampire romance...

Edward is a vampire he might be controlling but he was "born" in early 1901 when that was the norm of the male take on things.... I didn't see that as verbal abuse... He tells her not to do something that would end her in the hospital. He only looks out for Bella... If she had her way she would either be dead or close to it... That is a far cry from verbal abuse.... but touche, to each their own.. ok.. my 2 cents :)

While I enjoy almost all vampire fiction, I guess I must be getting old because I have a problem with these vampires that are hundreds of years old hooking up with teenagers. Sure, it's written for teens, so the main non-vampire character is going to be a teen, but should the main (or non-main) vampire character be so old?

I don't know the Twilight series as I've yet to read the book or see the movie. I don't know that it needed a post about hating it. I mean, it's fiction - guaranteed not everyone is going to like it. Perhaps this could have been a poll instead?

As for the books being juvenile. Perhaps. I happen to enjoy some young adult fiction, though. Another thing I've recently been discussing with my husband is how I feel cheated that there weren't any such exciting books around when I was a "young adult". Perhaps, like Images, I had a boring childhood. I know it was certainly a misguided childhood.

I am surprised no one else was creeping out over the fact that Edward is so old. If there is a bad point to this series, it is the underlying pedophilia.

I mean really think about it, if Edward was born in 1901 and had a teenagers body, would you want your minor child going out with him?

It's fiction, and he's not human. Again I say, I don't judge a vampire through a human lens. He was turned as a 17 year old, he was never able to 'grow up'. It's a story. I don't think we'll ever have to worry about a human that doesn't age for 100 years preying upon our teenagers.

It is totally possible to analyze too much. I think people should hold humans accountable for human things, and hold fictional vampires accountable for fictional vampire things.

If there is a human on earth who molests children and blames it on a storybook vampire and what they did- uh... cookoo cookoo, call in the white jackets.

I am just thinking about a (human) writer who would write a story about a hundred and something year old vampire who's body never completely grew up but yet his mind did. Then, have this character date a minor.

Titanic was a ficton story using actual history to tell a story.Which was weak with the actual history...but...

Twilight is a story of fiction written for Teens not adults.Meyer wrote the story for teen girls in mind,with a twist on the tale of the vampire.If you didn't like it....thats your right...but again...why bash others for something they really liked.

Anne Rice's vampires, when turned from human to vampire no longer live with human boundaries... Lestat could be attracted to his own mother.

I simply just don't hold other beings to human standards. Then again, they aren't real anyway. I don't make my cat wipe his feet at the door when he walks in either :P I really do view this the same way. To me, personally, it's ridiculous to place human rules and morals upon a supernatural beings and beasts.

I haven't bashed anyone for liking Twilight. I happen to like the story to a point. I am just keeping my mind open to it's flaws. Like watching a movie and looking for the bloopers.

What could be 'flawed' in someone's openly made-up story? When you write fiction, it's all up to you. This was never meant to be factual.

The only flaws I can buy into would be literary ones. The only issues with the story I can buy into are people who just didn't think the story was interesting to them.

This wouldn't be the first vampire fiction author whose vampires could go out in the sun. Think of White Wolf and The Masquerade... they can go out in the sun for a while if they've recently fed. On the TV show Moonlight, they could also go out in the sun for periods of time. This author just gave her spin.

It's funny how some people have such a hard time dealing with different author's decisions to take their characters- when it's their choice. I have been working on a vampire novel for some months now... and I can tell there will be some disappointed people out there :P Not that I expect my story to be as widely read, but anyway... mine will be far from the old stand by- and that's why it 'should' be interesting.

Are people really debating the ethics of a fictional vamp dating a minor? If he's stuck in H.S body, is he really going to go off and find himself a nice 50 something year old?
And just because she wrote it, is that implying that there is something wrong with her moral structure?

I, for one, enjoyed the movie and the book. I saw it and read it as simply make believe...I enjoyed the way the author portrayed everything. Its just sweet, simple, romantic vampire fantasy. Thats it. Its not a history book or the great American novel, its just an enjoyable "get lost in the fantasy" book. Yes, I plan on reading the entire series and seeing the movies that may follow. Its no cornier than a harlequin romance novel.

I liked the books. Read all four just to see what the hype was about. On another site I frequent there is a HUGE following of mother's who live Edward. There is even a story floating around about a mother who left her husband because he wasn't all Edward-like and sparkly.
I think that this book is a great way to get anyone to read more. But the "factual" basis is worse then most Hollywood hits. Sparkly vampires?

Personally I like the Quiluete pack of loup-garou better. :D

I personally did not like the movie, To me it was once again on hollywoods ploy for the younger generation and a new type of vampiric Tale.

Sorry to much of a chick flick for me, like the blood and guts of Hollywoods monster Movies. Even in the early 70's and 80's the films had some of the romance yet stuck to the myths of vampiric lore.

Twilight, is stories my daughter and neices read. not for me...

My husband read all four books and loved them. He also enjoyed the movie. I'm sure he'd post here for himself... but he's in Texas this week on business. But anyway, he's not a chick flick watcher, and he enjoyed it all.

Just putting that out there so men that don't like chick flicks won't feel the need to not even give it a shot. I don't think this is the best ever, but still good entertainment. Then again, I enjoyed The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and it got horrible, horrible reviews.

Yahoo Users have critiqued Twilight and graded the movie a B+ (on a A, B, C, D, F scale). That's out of 37081 ratings so far. So... there's a good poll for you. The movie was in no way as good as the books- but I never expect them to be. They have mere minutes to give spotlights and focus on certain scenes to give you the goods. That's never easy.

Hey man, I know that is only a movie and like any other. I really cant get my self in that position to be over opinionated and moronic concerning a simple movie, at the expense of my precious energy, with which I have to do much smarter things.

I loved all four books. But I'm not in your face about the book. I keep it to myself. I've seen the movie and I WANT MY MONEY BACK! The movie was the biggest pile of crap I've ever seen. That was the worst movie I've seen. I never wanted my money back so bad! It has been forever snice I've seen the movie and sometimes at night I'll wake up in the middle of the night and think about how pissed off I am about the f**king movie. The the ppl who shove it in our faces. I hate it! I bet most ppl who seen the movie couldn't even tell you When the first book came out. It was about four years ago. That when I first read it. I loved it and now with the movie out all it is is fake ppl walking around and posing for something that needs to be shjoved up their a**. I hate the Twilight movie so much! That movie right there makes me want to go the school and burn all the copies of Twilight books. GRRRRRRRRR! I hate it!!!!!

I personally, have a dislike for the whole Twilight book/movie thing, purely because of what it's turned little teenage girls into.
If it wasn't for the crazed love struck (with a fictional charracter, may i add) i wouldn't be to bothered by it, as it doesn't affect me.

But christ these girls are getting on my nerves. It's not even a good story line.

I think Twilight is a piece of crap.
I didn't expect the movie to be any good at all, specifically because the books weren't anything special.
I'll admit they brought a chuckle out of me once in a while, but everything that was written was expected.
The characters were all perfect in every way. None of the main characters were obviously going to die, it was very fan-ficky.
I'd much rather watch the movie than read the book, it's basically the same crap. You can't expect it to be good.

Trend ofcourse darling. I only dislike the popularity aspect of it all. its a book in my eyes and that's all it will be. when i experience anything that relates to it i think of how all the 'fans' only liking a character due to the written/depicted appearance and not looking into the depth of the writing itself. similar to my experience with harry potter. i loved the books at that time , but when there as thousands of screaming girls constantly speaking of how hot Daniel R. is it takes away from the reading...*shrugs*
