The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

There was a time in ancient Egypt where humans entered into a conspiracy to overthrow the gods. They blasphemed against Ra, king of Gods and men, heretical priests and magicians plotted ways to turn against the Gods for their destruction, using those very powers that the Gods had given to mankind that they might flourish and grow great upon the earth.

Ra, hearing of this plan, called to meet with Him the most ancient and potent Gods, those who had been with Him in the primeval waters before the time when with His eye,the sun. He had made life. The Gods counseled together and it was decided that Sekhmet, the force against which no other force avails, should manifest on the earth and quell the rebellion. Sekhmet would manifest and punish all those who had held in their minds evil images and imagined wicked plots.

Then Sekhmet walked among men and destroyed them and drank their blood. Night after night Sekhmet waded in blood, slaughtering humans, tearing and rending their bodies, and drinking their blood. The other Gods decided that the slaughter was enough and should stop but they could find no way to stop Sekhmet who was drunk on human blood.

As the carnage went on, the Gods recognized that Sekhmet, her rage sustained by intoxication, would relentlessly proceed with the killing until the last human life had been extinguished. Then Ra had brought to him from Elephantine certain plants which have been said to be of the solanaceae family and which can be brewed as powerful mind-altering drugs. Those plants were sent to the God Sekti at heliopolis. Sekti added these plants to a mixture of beer and also human blood, until 7,000 great jugs of the substance had been made. The jars were taken to a place were Sekhmet would pass and there were poured out onto the ground, flooding the fields for a great distance. When Sekhmet came to these fields and perceived what she thought to be blood, she rejoiced and drank all of the liquid. Then "Her heart was filled with joy". Her mind was changed, and she thought no more of destroying mankind.

After that, Ra addressed Sekhmet as the One who comes in peace, praising the beauty and charm of the Goddess.

Sekhmet changed herself in a lioness' body during the carnage, bearing herself as the Sun Goddess, the One & Destructor but then Ra changed her again to become a deity of healing and a mother figure. Her twin sister is the Cat Deity Bast / Bastet

Then she laughed with joy, and her laughter was like the roar of a lioness hungry for the kill. Thinking that it was indeed blood, she stooped and drank. Again and yet again she drank, laughing with delight; and the strength of the beer mounted to her brain, so that she could no longer slay.

At last she came reeling back to where Re was waiting; that day she had not killed even a single man.

This is just one telling of the story that I looked up at Ancient Egypt: the Mythology - the Myth of Re but most that I have read say the same thing that it was Mingle the red ochre of Elephantine or pomegranate juice to look like blood and beer.

She was also known as:

Hathor — bovine goddess with diverse qualities, often worshipped in three forms: as a cow, as a woman with the ears of a cow, and as a woman wearing a headdress consisting of a wig, horns, and a sun disk; her name means “House of Horus,” and her hieroglyph shows a falcon confined inside a rectangle; she was regarded as the divine mother of all reigning pharaohs, associated with royal pleasures, such as sex, love, joy, and music; sometimes depicted as a lion form of the goddess Sekhmet, and in this guise she assumes the form of one of Ra’s eyes smiting blasphemers; also known as the “lady of the west,” where she was considered to receive the setting sun, which she protected until morning; also known as the “lady of the sycamore,” and is associated with healing powers

Sameal = Hebrew "Blindness of God" Sameal is often depicted as a serpent. Also in Hebrew lore, he is often the ruler of the other world, along with his wife Lilith. Sameal is the Jewish version of Satan.

Samael is an important figure in Talmudic and post-Talmudic lore, a figure who is accuser, seducer, and destroyer. Legends mentioning Satan refer equally to him, such that Samael is often taken to be the true or angelic name of the Devil, as opposed to the epithet, Lucifer (light-bearer), which is based on a misapprehension of a verse against the King of Tyre, or his functional title, Satan (Adversary). In The Holy Kabbalah (p. 255), Samael is described as the "severity of God," and is listed as fifth of the archangels of the world of Briah. Samael is said to have taken Lilith as his bride after she left Adam. According to Zoharistic cabala, Samael was also mated with Eisheth Zenunium, Naamah, and Agrat bat Mahlat - all angels of prostitution. Samael is perhaps the true Personification of Wrath, rather than Satan, since Samael is often associated with Asmodeus, the demon of lust and wrath, and Satan is considered a juridical adversary, directed by God. I was refraining from posting on this. Due to my feelings toward the Goddess. When I first read the article I was somewhat offended. But not by what My husband posted, Or what some of the other members posted.. But I was offended by the idealsm of Sekhmet being considered vampiric. I suppose I wanted to ignore some of the stories that relate to her and just assume her for the fertility goddess that she is. Being I am wiccan Sekhmet has meant alot to me in the 15 years I have been practicing. I attempt to keep an open mind to theories and history, and learn more. I suppose I completely forgot the story of Ra.

(( In the legend of Ra and Hathor, Sekhmet's anger became so great, she would have destroyed all of mankind if Ra had not taken pity on us. He tricked her by dyeing beer blood-red which she drank believing it to be human blood and became drunk. She soon forgot her anger and we were saved from destruction. ))

This article brought the reality back to me.. I belong to a Goddess temple here in Las Vegas.. Called "Temple of Sekhmet", It is in the desert.. A very beauitful place to be. But it makes sense now thinking about it. The temple was built for women, from women. But everyone is welcome.

Now that I sit back.. I think upon my husband said as a joke, But actually makes sense.

Women like Sekhmet.. Get her drunk and she will forget her anger. It can mean anything, whether it be alchohol, or laughter.

hey that is really wonderful because I was just thinking today if there was any egyptian vampire lore. The Gods created a vampirella type thing to quite a revolution, politics and intrigue insue.

I believe you are refuring to Bastet, who is the Cat Goddess and has the head of a black cat.

Sekhment has a Lions head and is supposed to be the goddess of Fertility if I remember right.

"CAIRO, Egypt - Egyptologists have discovered 3,400-year-old statues depicting the lion-headed goddess Sekhmet, Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities said Monday.

Sekhmet embodied the destructive powers of the sun and was responsible for both curing and causing illness. Ancient Egyptians believed Sekhmet helped the pharaoh defeat his enemies by breathing fire and sending plagues.

A German-Egyptian team of archaeologists discovered the group of six statues during restoration work at the temple of Amenhotep III in Luxor.

The black granite statues show Sekhmet seated on a throne holding an ankh, or symbol of life, and are in good condition, the state’s Middle East News Agency quoted the council’s Secretary General Zahi Hawass as saying.

The statues are about 5 feet (150 centimeters) high. The find brings the number of Sekhmet statues found at the site to 30, Hawass said."

and there is also temples that have artifacts from the time that Sekhmet is believed to have walked upon the soil...away from the defiling of curious and fame-hungry seekers
