Do you think that Vampires are better these days, or do you think that the old way Vampires lived is better??

Today there are guns and a lot of other things that can help them out, but those things can also be their downfall...In the old days they didn't have that many weapons to use and there weren't too many weapons that could be used against them...

I like the way that the Vampires lived in the past, mostly because they had to be more intelligent than they are these days so they could survive. But I can't say that i don't like how (well at least how Hollywood movies portray them) they are today, they seem to be a lot cooler and the guns used are pretty awesome.

Anyways, I just want to hear what you have to say about it...

We only know how Vampires lived through Hollywood or things we read. Have you ever thought that these things could be wrong?

Yes I have thought that they were wrong, but they are the only things that we have to go on right now...

But yes a vampyric lifestyle now is much more enjoyable I should think than years ago.

well, i think you associate the traditional lifestyle with vampyres.
the modern versions are just hollywoodised and too unrealistic

you can still incorperate a more traditional lifestyle into the new aged one. yes they were hunted back then...now vampires are generaly accepted and its much easier to live

They seem cooler today, but what we've read of them way back when, they were more inteligent and mysterious. They were much more interesting all around. Now adays I can't imagine a real vampire living today, but I can still imagine one living back in the colonial days and so forth. ^-^

I would prefer the lifestyle and the ways of the Older vampires.. Myserty, Charm, Wealth, Elegence, Seclusion.. Now and days and yahoo with sharp teeth can claim they are a Vampire.. It is sickening..

I think that is anything else, progress is both a boon and a curse, a boon because it gives us such new things and techniques, but a curse because it tends to dull our wits, to the point where we tend to rely on gadgets more so than our on minds

Vampires of old had to keep themselves hidden from the likes of supersticious mobs, and country folk that would burn them of stake them. In todays society, we have to hide so we don't all end up in rubber rooms with fancy white jackets on. We vampires will always have to hide, and today, yoiui can say vampire and people just look at you strange, of just blow it off. Even two hundred yers ago the word vampire ment you were done for.

The old ones didn't have internet....

i enjoy the lifestyle now i agree with you about the whole survival thing of the past but i liek the fact that we are slowly becoming reconized and excepted in the world and more and more people have interests in vamps now where as back in the day peole feared them if they knew of them people do have fear for us now but not many i havent met to many who have been afraid more intriged and interested instead but thats just my thoughts on it good thread

why not live both lifestyles.

Besides all the hype of vampires, I believe there is more 'shadows' today. They have always proved most useful to hide and hunt.

I agree with Freakshow. If you mention anything about Vampirism to anyone, they would give you a one-way ticket to the rubber room to ride the lightening. We still do have to hide, I guess. Some are just more secretive than others.

I would guess the old lifestyle as we have heard about is so interesting to us for one reason. Who would want to read a book or watch a movie about ugly or stupid vampires? We have these interesting vampire stories of the past because that is what was needed to draw us in to the idea. But the lifestyle of a modern vampire is probably much more accurate in my opinion.

When I say modern I mean people that live as vampires. Either as psi or sanguine but understanding they are still human.

from the way it is described, i prefer the old lifestyle of vampires....it's much more nice in the traditional way....well just an opinion anyway

well like other ppl have said now if your say your a vampire in public you get strange looks locked up or labled and "mallcore" or something along those lines most people don't believe in anything unless it it fully explained to them but before now vampires were respected and feared more

Oh, by far the Older days. The Elders were near pure blood and had the ability/cabability to live as they wished. Nowdays we have a strict code of conduct, that even the vampires would have to follow as to not be noticed.

Present day is so much better. Not that I really have anything else to go by but from fiction... :) I just know that I enjoy my family and my lifestyle and I wouldn't want it any other way. I couldn't imagine fearing persecution for living the way I do and believing what I do.

I think that in some ways it's the same and in some ways it's different. As the movie blade potrays that as humans have evovled so have vampires. Therefore vampires need to know how to be smarter than humans today, just as they had to be smarter than humans back then.

Well, to tell you the truth. i wouldnt mind either. i mean for one you have so much more freedom now than you did back then, because you dont have to run scared. people are now accepting things for what they are.

on the other hand i wouldnt mind back then either. cause i am facinated with the old ways, and i wouldnt mind not having guns involved

I agree with nightangelsblood....i think that in this day and age, we are more accepted than feared....thus we don't have to worry 'bout it as much. But if it comes down to me defending myself...i will improvise!!

One hand Holly weird is just using vamps to sensulise the dark side.
Whereas old vampires from legends and myth's were feared and respected.
Although we are more "accepted" on a day to day basis it is a cautious acceptence.

I would have to agree with the older lifestyle, as it was more refined and personal. Alot of style and class was also put into the life.

old lifestyle by far-granted all we really know is from hollywood & people have different images & interpritations from books but most come to the same conclusion that it was more debonair, self awareness, amost arrogant. rightously so

Yes, the modern day vampire has a much better life, for the simple reason no one believes in him or her. No one will pull you out of your home and drive a stake through your heart on suspcion of being a vamp(at least not yet)

This is going to be a waste of my time even asking specially in here but I will go ahead & say it, is there a real vampire alive among us right now, in time & space? I doubt there is one, I do not discourage that some like the idea & might consider him/her self one but to be one, thats another story. So when you say vampires are better on this modern age is admiting that vampires are alive, which is a bit not acceptable, one because vampires are dead meaning they canot die, they live among so they look similar lik eus, yet if you were to say you are one, I would then ask for a prove, meaning I might like to see such person who declares to be one to try & go out in the sun & to see that person burn alive. Which is pure nonsence because we know it wont happend.Now as said above the idea of one imagining of been one is completly another thing. Anyways just wanted to say that.

It is easier to kill today, but back then if a person turned up dead it was a decease or a plague. No investigation needed.
Now we have more ways to gain information. Back then there was little to no information. I still haven't decided wether that is a good or bad thing.

if i had to choose a time frame to live in it would either be the past or the future.. but it might just be where i live it might as well be a dead town. for there is nothing to do in my town.

Really if anything has taught us anything it is that people fear what they do not understand, were as now we have more of an understanding & available information on vampires as if we "ran into one" we would have a better understanding on how to deal with conversation, or having one as a friend, back "in the day" No one understood anything on this topic, & those who claimed they did where usually just heritics trying to gain favor with the church or family again, most people had an idealize version of the vampire that really kept things from moving along as it were, now people are a little more open about these things so it is a tad bit easier living in this day and age than it was back then or at least that is my way of thinking of it.

i think that the old days are better due to the fact that they still lived by the way of the sword and ther was still honor in what you did

i dont know enough about vampires to say really lol :P i have been on this site for ages now and i still havent got around to asking someone to just explain to me about vampires.... how it all started n stuff...... but then again there are so many conflicting views so does anyone actually know what vampires were like in times past? or are people basing it on stories they have read or movies they have seen?

We are no better or worse off than any other vampires were in thier times. We are a product of our age. The ancient vampire had ancient weapons. Again, being a product of thier own time.

theres not really much accurate scripting of description of old time vampires so there really isn't anything to compare.

well...i dont really think the modern lifestyle is better i guess they both have their own sides..maybe the old century vampires..were much wiser..

If you are looking into the Vampyre community through RP aspect, then I need to point out your wrong.

Actually in a game, like VTR or VTM vampires in the dark ages could be lazy and show themselves off or have towns killed and people constantly murdered. In the Mordern nights, vampires have to be more cunning, not lazy, do to forensics, ballistics, and so forth.

Nothing about technoligy made them lazy, if anything it made them more causious.

As for the Actual Vampyrism, we do not know how we lived. Seeing we living normal life spans as any other person on this earth. Its hard to keep this understood, yet our condition didn't really get notted at full until this century.

I personally think that Vampires are pretty close to the same now as they were in the past...Like, most Vampires of today that are in covens live like rats and feast only when they can't take the thirst any longer...Vampires of the past were the same only a little more intellegent...I think that the Vampires of today are just made to create a massive Army of Darkness to eventually take over the world...

I must say that im in agreance with Morbidthoughts. We are pretty much the same as our kin before us. The times have changed but the lifestyle of the vampire still seems to remain unscathed. However i would say that living more in the past would have been the best, as no one looked upon u as strange simply for being a gentleman

I think both had their advantages and disadvantages, but Freakshow is right with the comment that even in this day and age, when we know that vampries are a whole are at least a bit more secure and accepted, still the moment you open your mouth and tell someone you are vampire they are going to look at you like you are nuts. They may even try to have you committed as such.

In this day and age (aside from the blood born diseases aspect for sanguine vamps) the greatest dangers we have to face are not mobs out to murder us, but lack of belief and acceptance and in more extreme cases a lack of freedom should we stand firm enough in expressing who and what we are that someone decides we need mental help and locks us up in an institution.

Thinking a little on this, I'm not so sure how the 'old way' or the 'new way' of vampire lifestyle even applies to anyone in the community. Or more to the point, that it shouldn't apply. I mean, I've always wondered about this, becuase the vampiric 'lifestyle' (old and new) is a fictional fabrication created for the purpose of entertainment in their respective eras.

Bram Stoker's Dracula... old entertainment, everything in it - fiction. Anne Rice and her novels - new fiction. The same can be said about all other works on vampirism and movie films.

They are all so... 'outside' no matter how much they influence, it's really always someone else's vision the various members of the community try to emulate. Like putting on someone else's clothes. What about your own wardrobe?

The old ways were better, and besides, being chased and hunted, made it all the more exciting, and killing the ones who hunted you would be self defense, and most would not look down on it as badly as outrightly hunting someone, not that it matters lol. besides, the old ways had more class more honor to it, we degrade the honorable name of vampire today, little respect for history at all.

I think the vampire lifestlye today is better because it ultumatly makes them better hunters and killers because the have to be much more careful than they had to be in the past simply because of exposure. Back in the past they could just leave a body where they killed it and none would be the wiser, very unlike today

In days of old a Vampyre was usually hunted down and destroyed no questions asked.

In the "modern" age, granted they're widely accepted but still they're labeled "freaks", "psychos", "goths", are (for the most part) still outcasts in "society".

Plain and simple, the life of a vampire will never tarnish, just absorb into the now. Makes it better and stronger.

As for living better in the past with freedom. Actually I believe the now is better then the past. Simply for the fact our information network to each other is better. Not to mention modern transporation gives the ability to go out and meet with other Vampyres.

So if you think the past was good, I highly doubt living alone, not knowing if there are others of our kind out there. Living in fear of what if normal people find you and kill you inquisition style?

Personally the past is best left to the past. We are now living here, in this time, in this moment. SO no need to dwell on that which has already came and gone. Yes we can learn from it, yet thats all we need to do, learn and move one.

For me personally, I like the old ways better. They seemed more darker then what they are now.

I've never met a vampire who used guns or any of that shit. They're normal people who carry out normal lives (for the most part). This thread is kind of vague.

The way they are portraied in the newer movies such as Blade and Underworld is a more garish and holywood view. i prefer the way they are portraied in the old txts.

The only true differences (not based on fictional characters) is that people today are generally less intelligent and more tolerant. It is considered ignorant to be prejudiced in any way, where as in the old times a person could be tried as a witch a put to death just because someone respectable did not like them. The average intelligence levels have dropped, due to the overabuse of drugs, television, etc. etc. But we are a more tolerant society now, and being different is celebrated at best, and laughed at or scorned at worst. We no longer have to fear death for expressing ourselves.

i think in today's society, vamps needs are more met than they were in the old days, I mean...if you really didn't feel like going out and finding your "meal", you could always go to the blood bank and all that...but there are some things about the old days that i find interesting also

in a way i agree with nitemaire......the old way vampires were the best for the simple fact that they didnt have alot of the bs to deal with that they do now.......vampires today have to deal with the new fangled ways that people have to destroy them(as far as hollywood protrays it any way)
