I was reading something in a book I have and it said the Sunset and sunrise had a big part in magic.Something with the climax and the projection. Does anyone know?

Different cultures would have different reasons, but the idea of night was not always looked upon so lovingly. One must remember that going far enough back in history, night meant exposure to predators and cold and day was a time of safety and growth. So the onset of night has often been immortalized as a chase or struggle between gods. The gods of the sun kept people warm and grew their crops, while the god of night typically wanted to devour the world. Either way, sunset spoke to the climax of that struggle and the power over that change with sunrise symbolizing the vanquishing of night. Moon gods and goddesses were typically someone who protected us from the night during it's ascendence.

Even without the struggle of gods and goddesses, in ways much like the solstices and equinoxes, times of great change in weather, temperature, length of day or light, like sunset and sunrise are powerful times of change on our world and therefore would be powerful focuses for magic.

I think Felix summed it up nicely as.

The absence of light used to be feared much more than it is today because people did not understand how the world rotates. They knew that light was given and taken without understand why it happened, and thus did not positively know that the light source would always be there.

I have found that Everything in the natural world has Everything to do with magik.... There are so many different spells, curses, etc. It's hard not to say that a sunset or rise wouldn't have anything to do with it....especially because the sun and moon are both intrical parts of how things are performed and when things can be cast.... I know there has't to be a connection...

The more One becomes in tune with this realities energies and their connections to what is beyond, the more adaptable to the constant changes in the energy blend...Once you are more versitle in these ways, the moment you choose to act or just persaonal preference...

Sunset, Sunrise, Tides, Moon stages, all effect the Earth and could effect spells or thoughts as well I believe.

Sunrise or sunset would be an excellent time for spells involving change or transition. Sunrise would be most useful for changes involving increasing light energy, while sunset would be good for transitions into darkness.

Sunset, the Dusk time, it allows an older, more powerful kind of magic to be released. Same with Sunrise, Dawn and Dusk are both beautiful, and Dangerous times depending on what you study, and who you are.

Pecific sun pojnts like rise, noon and down, are points of great streingh in magick, the thing is to have the right angle and the right focus, make sure all elements are ready and then you can enhance your spells.

I would say it does. Well in my opinion anyway. You see, everyone has a moon element and a sun element. Magick can also depend on the moon phase and the tools one has and the abilities they have as well.

some cultures in africa and europian back in the midevil period had a huge belief of sunset and magic had to be related look at stonehedge and you can clearly see the magic of a sun dial and how magic it really is when it was built in the middle of nowhere but I think for that and for other reaons it is related in one way or another.

http://www.stonesofwonder.com/watching.htm

I myself have visited many standing stones and stone circles but what they all have in common is the fact that the sun or the moon will rise/fall between mountain peaks or on the lower part of a ridge .....

So does it play a important part in magic i would say so imo.

Sunset, the time when most of our ancestors would fear. The age old fear of the dark itself and predatory animals that roamed the night. It is said the powers of darkness are stronger at night and draw strength from it.That world or place between the two energies, when planes shift and become more visable.

Well I read that doing magic in a dark, creepy place that no one goes to. Is alot better than doing it out in brand day light. So yeah sunrise and sunset is the best times to do magic.

I personally believe that both the sun and the moon play a great role in magic. like many spells are to be cast during a full moon, or new moon. but im new to this and am learning little by little. but if the moon means a great deal i assume so does the sun. everything is a balance between dark and light.

Sunest and sunrise can have some magical properties. For example, the sunset before Beltaine and Samhain is a time when the world of the Fae and our world start to blend briefly. Faeries can lead you astray and play tricks on you if you don't put out some fruits and honey cakes for them.

Wiccans in general use the lunar cycle as a guide on when the best time is for certain spells.

Working Magick by the natural cycles of Earth is the speciality of Wytches. The rising of the Sun on the horizon presents an excellent background to ritual. But especially on the Summer Solstice at Stonerhenge where the sunlight pierces the darkness and marks the day of Litha.

Felix nailed it as always.

But I'd like to add sun set and sun rise are also seen are representative of change, a balance point if you will between one state and another.

This is by definition a powerful time where anything is possible.

Traditionally sunset and sun rise would be the best time to perform changing magics, or a marriage, anything changing one thing into another.

Perhaps, as that is when may see the "flash of green". Yes, I know a reference to the "flash of green" was made in the now showing "Pirates of the Caribbean #3. For those of you who don't know John D McDonald wrote a gook many years ago title "Flash of Green". As I recall reference was made to the one who views such as a flash as having good luck follow

ok mind you i am probably the most ignorant person here...but from what i hear, night is the best time for certina evocations and rituals, day for others and the two seem to end with the approach of the other. In other words, I have a spell, ritual or evocation or summoning that requires the moon, or the dark, or the senses associated with the dark then said magic dissapates or wekens with the coming of the day and vice versa. Also culturally speaking its always been understood then when trying to commong with the various deities and spirits, the time of thier sign, or planet or element will result in a much better chance of being able to work thier type of magic.

The sun & moon phases, dawn, dusk, everything effects the magick that is worked.

Nighttime energy is different; some of us work better with the after dark energies.

I personally feel stronger after dark. I think it has to do with my childhood training... my Mother and Grannie were both nocturnal creatures as well so I come by it naturally.

If you want to perform a truely maginificent spell or magick then the sun provides the best atmosphere for it when it is first rising or setting as that is when the most concentrated energy comes from it.......
