i think its gona be really good, i like the idea of the prequel because the underworld history wasnt explained enough in the first movie.

Im trying to make it an outing for some of my friends for opening night.

It sounds great, but my question is; is this in the past? or is still at the present? Due to that Master Vampyre already being split open.

From what I have seen from the previews........this is a PREquel which means it is from the past.
Matter of fact I don't see Kate B. on the list of cast members.
This is the Rise of the Lycans which is when the war between the Vampires and Lycans began.

as far as i know none of the main cast from 1 or 2 are in the 3rd, but it is set in the past, its going to be a very good one :)

I have been looking forward to seeing it since seeing first poster for it. Rarity when the sequels to the original, as well as prequels, equal or surpass the original - as with the Underworld series!

I saw Rise of the Lycans friday night. Have to be honest, not hugely impressed with this one. You don't see Kate Beckinsdale until the very end and understand why her character isn't in this one as it's a prequel. I just felt like the story was missing something, I can't explain what. I felt Viktor was unfairly cruel to his daughter Sonja(Rhona Mitra of Doomsday) and also to Lucian. Lucian is absolute favorite Underworld character and he really is shines in this film. BY FAR Lucian (Michael Sheen) saves this film. I mean Rhona as Sonja looks hot in her gear in the film but she doesn't have the appeal of lets say a kate beckinsdale did in Underworld: Evolution. As brilliant as Lucian is in this film, it isn't even comparible to Underworld: Evolution. This film Rise of the Lycans, has it's moments. Out of 10 starts I'd give it 8. It was tough seeing how cruel Viktor really is to the lycans but I understand why. It's just I think he overdid it at times. It's part of the story I realize. I'd have liked to see more action I guess, so it'd be more fulfilling to watch, like Underworld: Evolution. I wanted and expected more from this film. Having recently seen My Bloody Valentine which was never a dull moment. There were parts of Rise of the Lycans that just dragged and kind of lost my interest. I find the more movies I watch overtime the more harsher I become of a critic. I am very opinionated on films and so I guess I just am speaking my mind here. I hope there is a 4th Underworld, and I hope it is MUCH more like Underworld: Evolution in the way it's done as opposed to Rise of the Lycans. I felt Rise of the Lycans has it's moments as I said. I think there are great moments but in between the story drags and loses your interest. I think it's interesting the dyanamic relationship between Viktor and Sonja. I am surprised he didn't make sure to kill Lucian too as he made sure to kill Sonja. He did try and kill Lucian. I am so glad Lucian lives cause then we would not have seen him in Underworld and Underworld: Evolution. Viktor is terrible and this film truly makes you hate him more than you ever thought you could. Anyways, this movie is like I said not bad, 8 out of 10 stars but it could've been better.

Ok just saw it today I must say it was pretty good a little sad but good. as for the where was Selene at ok people once more this movie is a prequel it's before Selene was made a vampyre it tells how the war began Between the vampyres and Lycans. Ok so do we all got that now.......Good.. alll in all this flix was good and it stuck to how Sonja died in the flashbacks of the original Underworld which was really good.

I explained in my review I know why Selene wasn't in it until the very end, that it's a prequel...All I was saying was it isn't the same without her overall. I think Rhona was a sexy choice but she doesn't have the appeal as an actress that Kate Beckinsdale has. Not her fault but it is, what it is. As I said 8 out of 10 stars, not a bad movie but it could've been better.

I love Lucian but honestly even though I give it 8 out of 10 stars, it's only cause I love Lucian. Otherwise the movie dissapointed and I wouldn't care to own it.

This is an excellent addition to the series! I saw it and loved it. Lucian is excellent in this one. ^.^

Saw it, enjoyed it, poked a zillion holes in the story. However, once I accepted that this was simply a story of emancipation and love, I let go all the suspended disbeliefs. Okay, that was a lie... I let go of most of them *grin*. Still, I had no problem paying my $12 for my ticket.

I have seen the movie twice and I liked it. (A woman who can wield a sword *drool* oops, I said that out loud, didn't I?) Thoroughly enjoyed the action scenes, although some of the lycan shots were a bit awkward from my view. More of the history is fleshed out and done so in a logical manner.

My only real complaint was that it should have been longer. I would liked to have seen more elements developed like how the relationship between Sonja and Lucian came about in the first place. But then a perfect movie to me is one that is so long a visit to the loo is required midway.

Overall, I think it is worth seeing.
