Why is it that most people only rate a persons porfile, but not their portfolio? If I understood it correctly, the profile is to show others more of the things we like, and ina way what makes us, and our portfolio is to show more of WHO we are? Why then would you only want to know WHAT we are, and not WHO we are?

I personally always rate any page I look at if there is anything to rate.

i agree. why just rate a profile.. if there is something worth rating in the portfolio.. do so.. as i do.. though most people dont tend to look at portfolio's for some reason :S

that's pretty much my point, you hit it on the head, most people only look at a persons profile. Take the time to look at a persons portfolio, get to know them a little more by viewing everything there is to see, ie. portfolio and journal....and yes I know, most that have been on here a while probably do look at all...

exactly.. its the newer people who just skim through profiles... its ok just remember the people who take time to look at your portfolio are the people who will give uu constructive comments on it :)

there are many pages I rated before the portfolio page was even up....and I only rate things if they are actually interesting to me...as I feel if it doesn't at least rate a 6 then it is not worth rating at all....
and sometimes I make a comment in one....and don't want to repeat myself

:^) woo hoo thank you baby, I did see that, you're not so bad yourself ;^) *winks* but on the subject, I just noticed in check ing out peoples pages, as well as my own, you'll see that a person has alot of "rated (fill in amount) times" on the profile page, but not the portfolio, which I do understand that the portfolio page is newer, therefore many of the...ehm... older folks (ha ha missed me I'm too short) haven't rated that page, I was more refering to the newer, younger (missed again) crowd LOL ;^)

i try to rate the portfolio.... unless i get distracted.... but i think its just nice, if you can take the time to read a persons profile, to take a look at their portfolio as well, and now with the journals, i make sure to look at all three :)

Well I havent started Rating portfolio's yet, I am just getting round to Rating people's Profiles,,,IF the profile sounds Interesting and they happen to have made a Portfolio I do tend to take a peek but not in great detail,
I will eventually get round to Portfolio's.
So I appologise If I havent Rated anyone's, Give me time I will..xx

Anyway, yes thats a good point, nobosy had rated my portfolio for about 2 months now. I always want to look at epopels portfolios and journals so I dont get it my dear. x

I really do not like rating portfolioes as it is too subjective a subject. Have been doing it since it is a requirement of levels but that is the only reason.

How am I to judge your work when I do not know you personally or your capabilities?
Is much harder to adhere to a set standard of rating.

So thats why for me.

I usually go through one thing at a time. I'll go through the profiles then later I go through the portfolios.

i'm with midnitemaiden03... I havent been here long but I have tended to rate the profiles and then once i have a chance i ll get to the portfolios. sorry if i havent got to it yet... i promise i will. xoxoxo

For me, I've ever rate profles AND portfolios, but maybe the "no-rate-portfolios-peoples" are simply too tired to go more... Or they don't like portfolios ?!!

I rate both most times but there have been times I didnt look at portfolios to be honest and I dont know why I didnt....maybe once I clicked rate a new message sign poped up and I forgot about it and went to read my messages lol. it happens...

Sometimes only the portfolio is rated,I think it's because of lazyness.

I rate both...if they have both...but some ppl have one pic on their portfolio and ppl rated them like...love the photos..10....or love the work 10....and the portfolio would be empty

I usually rate both too, but a lot of people consider them two different things, although they both tie into part of your profile, at least I think so.

I rate both but also go through the portfolio list for the ppl who didn't have 1 when i rated thier profile

i usualy only rate there profile and ill rate there portfolio if they rate mine, i just dont see the point of arateing other portfolios, if most people dont rate yours aprat from adding to your things rated, which im miles behind anyway

I usually will rate both if someone has both up at the same time, if they have a pro but not their portfolio , i usually will wait till my next time passing through to rate it, or until they do something that causes me to look at theirs.

i think something on the profile page needs to get the person hooked to look into the portfolio. if the reader is not impressed by the profile, they aren't likely to stick around to read the portfolio.

well most of us don`t rate the portfolio`s because they do a mass rating on the profiles:P

cause maybe one got enogh info from the profile?:D...

I personally caught myself doing the same thing. Then I realized that by looking and reading both, if a profile has both, you can learn more about a person. So therefore, I started rating both the profile and portfolio.

Sometimes, it is just that people don't want to rate both.

It's obvious ppl rate the profile more, mine has been rated three times more than my portfolio. I don't understand the time reasoning it doesn't take long to look over a portfolio and rate it. Since I got my p/m I've noticed ppl have viewed my portfolio and not rated it. It doesn't bother me, but personally if I look at anything I rate so I don't have to worry about getting back to it.

I enjoy all aspects of the pages. I get an idea of the person off the profile, but I personally prefer the portfolio. Its really more personal. As far as rating goes, I'll rate both. If its "under construction", I will wait and come back later. What really gets me is the fact that people hand out 10s like candy on halloween. If you recieved a ten from me then you earned it. I think I've given less than 8 of them. There is no incentive to do better if you get the highest mark for putting down a name.
I personally would rather have no comment than the generic "Welcome to your addiction" - Especially when its from someone of a lesser level. Give me something that tells me you read what I have to say., even if its just a "Don't believe a word of it" - At least it was read. And really, isn't time spent here a major factor in gaining levels? Take the time to read it and not just look at the pretty pictures.
- Granted that some pages are very long and have way to many quizes on them, but if I get bored before I hit the bottom, I'll zip down and its a mediocre 5.
Keep my intrest and its an 8. Impress me for a 10.
And I can understand that not everyone wants to put less than a great rating on a PM, because they know what was rated by whom.

If the persons profile intrestist me then I will check out there portfolio and rate it, but I try to read and rate everything....

I usually rate both..but of late I have barely been able to keep up with the profiles lol...I am fascinated by peoples portfolios....I may not rate them right away, but I always come back.....

Weird I never actually thought of rating the portfolio after rating the profile... dunno.... it never dawned upon me to do both.... ok... have to start checking them out!

i alwaya rate portfolios. i love looking at pictures. but i rate them honestly, more honestly than i do a profile.

I think tis one of the VR bad habits... and its a shame when a lot of people put a lot of effort into it...

thats a very good point..the first thing they can look at is profile..and its all about ratings and having ratings back..thats the main reason i guess:)

When I am looking at a page the first thing I look for is a journal and porfolio, but only rate if I like them. So I guess maybe some, like me, are just to lazy to rate everytime

a lot of the ones i rated was before they had portfolios...i do try to rate all when i go thru...

well when i go to profiles i do rate profiles but if i see they have a portfolio i rate that to .. i myself never understood how or why ppl just rate one part if there shows another part to be glimpsed.admired and enjoyed .but thats just me hehe

As mentioned before, most people only rate profiles to level themselves up. I rarely rate profiles because I have a hard time talking to people. Things like "10", "Great profile", and "nice" seem cheesy to me. I'd rather say something that has more meaning. D:

When I was greedy and just wanted to up my rating then I tryed going through all the new profiles and just rating 10 but now I read over someones profile rate it go to their journal if they have one, then go to their portfolios look them over and rate them then message them personally and introduce myself and tell them what I think. I don't always do this but it is polite... You learn alot about people just by what theyy put in their journals too and Ive met some really cool people by reading their journals. And find out more about stuff on their portfolios a little deeper too!

I agree, you should rate all of a person, not just the aspects that you like or dislike.

Well... personally I'm just too lazy to rate both... Half the time I forget about people's portfolio. I'm much more interested in their journals and profiles. I want to get to know people, not see whatever boobie pics they wanna show off (which a lot of the ones I've glanced at are, basically). But thanks for reminding me about the portfolios. From now on I'll at least look at them. Can't promise I'll rate if they're just... you know... not good or whatever...

I think generally because of the volume of information....Particularly if someone has read through a 43 page profile, where the majority of it is quizzes or mindless ramble, they don't want to look at the persons portfolio.

Also, i think that a lot of people here are just vote whoring to get to they're next level, and as portfolio'sencompas a mere 1/3rd of the total, they will finish rating profiles first, and then move on to portfolios later.

But who knows...

I am still trying to get through all the comments people has left me on my profile since joining VR and rating them since they took the time to rate me..then I will do the portfolios per day. It takes awhile due to reading profiles then looking at portfolios..really like seeing who a person is versus what they look like and stuff. And some days I do just profiles if I am really tired.

I almost always try to rate both, but from time to time I find myself rating only one because I ended up there with out even knowing, so I forget to go back and rate the other part, I promise to try and watch my self a bit more closely.

Actually.....um......I forget about the portfolio after I rate the profile, hehehe

most use rating as a way to climb the food chain-I like looking at everything, although sometimes I feel a little voyueristic reading peoples' journals-seems so...private somehow

i now rate one right after the other.that way i dont forget the portfolio

Usually i rate whatever i see if i haven't rated it before. I do agree that the portfolios are always better then the profiles but most people just go into the profiles. Not knowing whats being missed into the portfolios.

more people have profiles and there are usually more things in a profile to look at.....but if i am rating someones profile and i get interested and notice that they have a portfolio then i will look into it for sure
