The FCC now have fines $500,000.
Use of the word"t*ts", a word I hear 5th grade students use daily, can take a show off the air.
Last year every pop star available played the superbowl half time, this year it was Paul McCartney.
Do you think censorship has gone too far?
Tits... now who do I give me money to...?
Yes, I think that censorship was gone way too far lately. Society now takes offence to everything and is becoming very complaing about a lot of things in general.
I think it's a good thing, cause know writers for tv shows have to come up with more inuwindows for fuuny shit in the show. Like take for instance Adult swim, tell me there's a tv show/s that's better than that! Fuct the mainstream anywho!
I think the world is getting a bit too 'PC'nowadays, but at the same timemore things are becoming acceptable, and with this TV ebcomesmorebase. For example (aorry Imnot trying to sound like an English prude!) a couple of years ago, so many adverts at any time of day had peoples arses in just as that was seemingly the only way toget attention.
It perturbs me sometimes
And I just noticed this... as a habit from other sites I frequent, I censored myself when I typed tits. It's so bad, it's even gotten into people head's.
And yes, it has forced writers to come up with new inuendos - Adult Swim is hysterical! But censorship is still censorship.
I feel like I should censor myself sometimes too!
I do think its a worthwhile practice, but like most things it can get out of hand...
the fcc are full of themselves they have gotten were they will censor anything soon if they dont stop tv wont be fun to watch not like it is now
Then again, like said before, it does leave a new and exciting neiche for more intellectual homour.
its good to have but they do tend to get carried away with it.
I think we have to keep an eye on this. If we dont, soon the government may be trying to tell us what we can watch, listen to, and wear. I do not want the world belonging to Big Brother. Censorship is a funny thing. On TBS, some words are allowed and some are censored in the same movie! Ass is never censored, but others are. I just will not be controlled that way!
I think a certain amount of censorship is okay. Espically with T.v. shows and what not. Due to the fact that different families raise thier children differently. However, when it gets to a point where you cant say simple things without someone slappin you with a lawsuit not that is just down right outrageous.
For certian things I believe that censorship is good. but sometimes they just get to carried away.. before long we will be having to watch a "pope" giving us the rules of the land. Where they take away our right to freedom of speach. I say Fuck that shit.. as for sites like this. I don't believe censorship should be applied this is to me an adult site... I don't cuss often. and I don't do it around children or I watch what I say. But to me I feel they are taking my right to say what I want as long as I'm not slandering someone....
Don't you feel like your rights are slowly being taken away???
If someone were to here a "beeP" noice everytime i cussed. you'd hear more "beeps" with me than watching th osbournes (who totally rock).
i have to agree, that to a certain extent, for the welfare of the young ones, there should be a certain amount of censorship. ew, i shudder to say that, because i have such a thing with control, and giving my personal power away to authority, simply because they hold the position. i give respect though, to those that deserve it. but not merely because they try to demand it.
i have a button on my 80s jacket (yes, i still wear my Pepe jacket! haha!), that says, "The U.S. Constitution guaranties me the right to wear a button that says, "FUCK". I love it.
the Janet Jackson thing was way over dramatized, but figures (why are americans so sex crazed, but so repressed at the same time? im in the bible belt, so excuse me.).
i wrote them all and said, "hey chill.....its not a big deal.". i find it interesting that they freak out over a breast, which nurishes life, btw, but didnt bat an eye, as their kids watched, as a family event, a neanderthal, brutish, violent, and primal "game", also known as football, for 4 hours. *puzzled at the irony*.........♀
so very right Jamie.. it's our soceity.. I don't put all blame on them but somethings we find sick or disturbed is cause that is what "they" have prgrammed into us.. well maybe not all members on this site.. but in genral..
my opinion on cencorship an PC....fuck you fcc.....fuck you right in the ass cocksuckers
in the words of george carlin
shit piss fuck cunt cocksucker motherfucker and TITS
censorship os F&*(#*^% ridiculous!!!!!!!!
its not like little kids dont know how to curse!!!!!
i visited 2nd grade the other day and little kids were cussing at eachother....its ridiculous how people are so touchy...
they need to get over themselves...because EVERYONE does it.....wtf...
it annoys me....geez
lol Darkness.. I seen that today to.. a child of maybe 8 was saying something to his grandparent about something being a scam.. I was like that kid listens to much to his parents.. lol.. Then I had an other one come in that was 13 tring to get "R" rated movies.. well I don't want to loose my job so I didn't let him buy them.. he stoped off cussin me all the way I just shook my head.. Then I asked another one his age we was getting a pg 13.. and he goes wow.. first time someone asked me my age to buy a movie.. He then tells me that he went to Wal-mart and bought a "R" rated movie..
Censorship has gone way too far for a very long time. It may be increasing now, but I think a good bit of that is just the world becoming smaller due to technology. We can see more of what's going on.
"The government that governs least, governs best."
It's a parent's job to watch out for what their kids are exposed to, not the governments. Most parents anymore are too lazy to raise their children properly, relying on the government, school systems, churches, television, and the internet. Then they complain that their kids are exposed to too much through these, so instead of monitoring these things themselves, expect the government to prevent everyone from seeing the things they don't want their kids to see.
Kitty, my love.....THANK YOU FOR NOT EVER CENSORING YOURSELF WITH ME!!!!! I swear if you ever censor yourself, I will strangle your pretty little head off, just out of sheer love and respect for you. *hugs* I do agree that it's taken overboard though, especially with the fact that no one ever comes up with anything more than crap that is less amusing than a jar of mayonaise...I mean, instead of the original dialogue being "I will rip your fucking head off and piss down your throat, and you're going to like it bitch!" They change it to "Oh you're such a meanie-head. I don't think I like you very much *sniffle*" Granted there is a time and a place, and kiddie shows aren't it....but dont' label something as adult, then censor it into midless dribble...I mean, come on, don't switch the script for Teletubbies with the script of Cowboy Bebop for Christsake.
Tottally agree over censorship AND Political correctness has taken the piss ooo oooo I said piss lol e.g.
Used to Be Is now
Black board Chalkboard
White Board Felt Board
Nursery Rhymes You no longer say BaaBaa black sheep
You get the idea but use censorship to an extent of say protecting young ppl (Certificates on films) but not on the whole world what do they want??? Jeezus it'd be a scary place if someone hit their hand with a hammer and all you heard was "OOOWW you intellectually redundant feacal matter am goin to insert you upper body into a food appliance" doesn't have the same ring to it does it?? lol anyway
FUCK CENSORSHIP
I don't know if Censorship has gone to far, maybe adults aren't doing enough to educate rather than restrict.
All I know is I'm just waiting for them to censor all of those classic paintings of women and men naked in museums, just put up the little black bars over all the "Naughty parts"
this censorship thing is not going to help any if thats what people think...in fact it will make matters worse because the more u restrict something the more it will be done...
i think that censorship has gona a little wacko. were as they can have half nakid hookers on music videos but get castrated if they mention religion of any kind. although it does inspire creativity in new shows but then some of them just end up all the same because of the "rules of television"
The more rules you make, the more rules they will break! Damnit tis threads pissin me off now. If anything we need to kill the fuckin news! A money making lie, dragging you in for ratings. Wow they found something that sells better than sex=fear! FUCK THEM!
I think we should be the ones who make the decision on what we censor and what we don't not our government... they are taking shit too far!
I think that cencorship has gone waaaay too far ... i agree that children have to be protected at all times ... it is our duty as adults to protect children and allow them a happy carefree childhood ....as for adults ...we can take it ..whatever it is and if we don't particularly like it then change channel or stop reading whatever offends u or stop speaking to the moron who ofended you .. but freedom of speach is sooo important ... i hate prissy idiots who insist on getting offended everytime i say Fuck or Bollocks or Cunt lol
lol yes protecting our children should be our "parents" responsablity.. and your right if you get offened on certain things most people would just leave and go about doing other things than waste there time with that person or whatever it was..
Don't hold back there Daer!
I feel you had more to give on the subject :P
I always think that society should protect it's children is all ...but hey ...just my opinion
::whistles a happy tune::
Oh btw i CAN spell censorship ...lol
I find it quite ridiculous some of the things they wish to censor!!!
Like in movies where ppl are smoking to actually have it listed could u imagine - ,this movie is rated M 15+ because of occasional smoking?????? Its just absurd.... Its not TV or Movies that affect children as much... societies morals in the home affect them... it just allows parents to blame someone else for their lack of discipline in their home!!! Its far easier to let your children do what they want and give them what they want then have to punish them...
Although I do agree that censorship has taken a few steps in the wrong direction, I don't think that censoring things like the word tits is so much the problem, neither is preventing pop stars from flashing the general public. These are things that, to a small degree, lower the general respect for human anatomy. As a very close Aunt to three children, I'm really hoping that my nephew doesn't growing up thinking that it's okay to walk up to the first attractive woman he sees and say, "Hey hot stuff, can I see your tits?" which I strongly believe is the sort of behaviour that was encouraged by the display at last years Super Bowl. The word "tits" doesn't bug me in general casual conversation, but I do agree that as adults maybe it's good to be reminded that they do have a proper name; one that doesn't refer for a cow's anatomy. What really bugs me is that they say violence in video games spawns violence in real life, and then show the corpse of an 18 yr old killed in a stabbing on the 6 o'clock news....now THERE'S hypocrisy for you! "Don't watch unrealistic animated violence! Look at the guy you went to High School with!"
I agree with Darkling, I think there should be some "boundaries" in talking...
I think Paul McCartney (however boring for the younger Superbowl crowd) was a smart move. It kept people focused on the purpose of the SuperBowl - that being FOOTBALL.
*gasp**shock* You mean it's not about half time!?
Personally, I liked McCartney much more than a failed attempt to get a woman to become more popular than she already is (impossible, Miss Jackson) with some lame stunt. That whole thing was stupid - there was a rising death toll at the time and all people could write about in the papers was Janet's boob!
I guarantee that if another stunt like that happened, it would have taken precedence over the tsunami. So I'm glad McCartney was there to slow things down a bit.
NOW. As for censorship. My problem is people cursing - not the censors. I curse once in awhile, but it's really insulting to whatever intelligence I have left when I see a show/hear a song/watch a movie that says F^&* every two sentences. Censors for that sort of thing I can understand...
....Even though "every" 5th grader might use it, my nephew doesn't (also a 5th grader). Nor do I want him to. Go censors for that.
Censoring for adults? Kind of pointless. We've got a brain to decide whether or not we're going to take words to heart and use them.
thats just retarded....they have gone too far this time....they just need to get over it...
When there are lines, there will never be total agreement upon where the lines should be.
We censor people all the time here at VR, and most of the time the situation is first brought to the attention of Administrators by a VR member.
You have no state-supported, spiritual, or divine right to free speech. You cannot come into my house, interrupt my affairs, and shout whatever you want. You cannot print or spout lies free from lawsuits of liable or slander.
In a nutshell, your free speech is at the minimum, limited by how it affects the freedom of others.
You free-lovin hippie tree-huggers who want everything free and untamed never think positions through to their logical conclusion.
we have no more free speech...thats all gone when we the people lost control of the goverment...we need another boston tea party.....the checks and balances no longer works.
Not to mention the Partriot Act or anything... but I had to. This so called anti-terrorism bill has gone against many of our consitutional rights here in the US and has provided a huge amout of censorship to the kinds of things we can say about our government (sorry to exclude those of you who don't live here)
I think it's dumb...they censor stupid stuff that doesn't need to be. Then some things that they should, they don't.
Yes I feel thet people in generals ethics are far too christian orientated and go too far. Forcing restrictions as tightly onto other people and to take away their rights to express themselves by doing so is wrong! I agree that it is wrong to deliberately offend people but when you're left walking on eggshells you may have no choice!
At the end of the day, the human body is given 5 senses, you start to prevent people from seeing, hearing, touching etc... then the human can not function properly and make the right choices in life....
i think people should just try to wear more clothes. the mystery is all gone and excitement of the surprise dimenished. people use swear words with such repetition that they lose meaning.
i don't think we should be censored, we should just show more class with our actions.
may peace be with you all
I wasn't going to say anything on this thread, but alas I guess I must, as my mind screams out too ...
I think censorship sucks .. but remember ... it is we the human population that started it to begin with, Joe thought Mary, who is Dick and Jane’s child, shouldn't hear or see this or that, so Joe took it upon himself to begin censoring things that Mary has the potential to see ... totally forgetting that it is ultimately Dick and Jane's decision as to what to tell, or allow Mary to see or hear .. as from the beginning of time, teaching has begun in the home ...
Which is where it will always begin. I have had many discussions with people about this in the past, one in fact not too long ago, maybe just before this thread started ... It is my belief and feeling that it is up to me as a parent to decide what MY child, not y'rs, not the neighbors down the street, but the child I gave birth to, see, hears or learns .. in this day and age, there are many things that children can see outside the home that could harm them, if they are not prepared ... some think of me as not being a good parent, because from her birth a joint decision was made by her father and I not to limit or shelter what she learns ... to allow her to ask the questions .. I would rather my child know what a bitch, cunt, whore, bastard, tit, pussy, ass, what death is, what it means, and ANY other thing out there that I know she can come in contact with when I am not there with her, is before she does. Because I know (in my mind as to what I know) that she has been taught what is right and wrong, what can harm her and what can't. I think that far to many people shelter their own children, and in time they (not all, but many) end up confused, not knowing right from wrong, what is supposed to be good or bad, and they end up being menace's to society ... and yes before it gets said, I also know that for some, too much exposure, can also lead to the same things.
I don't think that anyone else should have the right to censor me or what is mine ..
I think people should worry about other things and not what words or scenes are on the air
outgoing has a good point there is no more free speach in this world today cant say anytihing that you want to seems like the censors are so worried about corupting kids well news flash they are already corupted damn mean kids in elementary school are carrying guns now so bleeping out a profaine word on tv is not going to help if they wont stuff censored leave it up to the damn parents thats what i say
yes i hear worse words then that come out of 5th and 6th grade students and see worse then that. if they want to take that word then why not change the whole english vocab
If the FCC, our government and or societys main concern is censorship then no wonder we're in trouble. Lets not talk about..war or the absolute pollution of the earths air, water, and food. Poision comes in many forms...
::laughs:: I just feel there are far more important things to worry about. Besides it is the PEOPLES choice to turn on the television for their kids.
so very many interesting points here......
the only problem is free speech... although A nice idea....DOES NOT EXIST
and as long as the government has the power of censorship it will not ever exist
I agree with most of the commentaries for censorship....even tho I am strongly against it
the problem here is parents need to teach their children better
pay more attention to their behaviors and actions and take some godamn responsibility when they fuck up.....oh no my som just stabbed a kid...it must be those video games...it couldn't possibly be the gang he's in or the drugs he's smoking....gimme a fucking break
it is not the governments job to censor things....yet until the people make that VERY clear to them they will do it more and more until we are all living in a police state.....and that time is getting dangerously close these days...if you don't believe me ask a few of the people of arab descent what they went through after 9/11.....or the japanese americans who were put in camps during ww2 simply for being asian.....these people did nothing
and yet the government rounded them all up and jailed them for things they MIGHT do.....so never allow yourselves the complacency of saying oh the government is only doing it for our own good....they know best
they do not know best
hell most of the time they have absolutely no clue as to what the people actually want anyways....and if they did it wouldn't matter if it disagreed with corporate agenda
that is who really runs our world...not the governments.....but the people who pay phenominal sums of money to get their candidate in office
I dont think censorship in many cases has gone far enough. Especialy with shows like springer. I mean I realize that as far as children ussually go, the parent is and should be responcible for what they do and watch but in many cases its out of our hands. We cant be there 24/7 and I certainly dont want my child to believe that the most important things in life are trash talk. I mean lets face it in todays societty, the media forces there ideals down our throats and they are not supposed to have opinons. I live in michigan and here in our schools in history and government courses, the teachers tend to shove there liberal democratic viewpoints down are throats, So no matter what you try to teach your children there view point in many cases becomes corrupt and rebelious. I think that the demand for drama and trash is to far gone. I personally dont want kids using words like that. Oh but im sure they will and someone in the media or a teacher in the school system here will tell them its ok and that if your parent tells you no or spanks you call the police and report them for child abuse.
My 9 year old doesn't say "tits" he says "juggs" can't even imagine where he got that...lol o O
oh yeah this is the kinda crap that they shove down are throats here. Quite frankly im tired of it. Freedom is for adults not children. Freedom was never intended to be exployted by the media. again, I dont believe everything should be censored but i do believe certain things are meant for adults. And another thing that pisses me off about this as i mentioned before Im a discjockey and when I do high school dances what do you think the kids request? A dance song hell no they dont they request songs like get low or move out the way B*&ch or some song that says the f word in every sentence. Anbody heard these songs? They send the wrong messages to kids teaching them that woman wished to be addressed as hoe or B*&ch. Then i have to debate with a 15 year old child about why i wont play the song. Its a bunch of crap ---Sorry struck a nerve and yes i am conservative
I totally agree with you apparitionknight!
Its strange to think about this because the censorship often is really anoying, but we should admit that sometimes it is necessary....
On the other side its up to parents not only to "protect childrens ears and eyes", but they should bring them up well at first. Because spoilt and impolite child will be neither better nor worse with or without the censorship...
Well yes, all things have two sides to them... and censorship and rules are something we need sometimes. But I agree that things get out of hand, and you of course cannot please everyone.
Ahhhh yes, Censorship. What comes across as "Naughty" *Smirk* to one, may not be to another. Thus, censorship must be left to the individual or one under the care of an individual as in the case of a child. What is indecent to you?..............
i think everyone has a right young or old to see or hear what they want to but there has to be a cut off point
lol im a bit in the middle about some of this. I don't agree with a lot of the laws that are made, esp recently like kids in some states are no longer able to wear clothes that show part of their thongs or guys that wear low jeans showing their underwear, they can now be fined. I didn't like it when they passed the "buckle up for safety" it's the law. That's pretty much saying " you dont have a choice, we're Telling you now". I think it's crap. I don't like listening to curse words all the time personally but i do curse at times, even around my kids but they know better not to say them around us at least. lol I know i can't protect my kids from other kids bad habits, but at least they still respect the parents and that's all that matters.
All parents have to do is lock their offspring in the closet if they don't want them to have a glimpse of reality.
It's getting to the point where I'm honestly starting to think they'll be censoring the sex discussions in school, and blurring the textbooks. All this is going to do is cause more problems than it's set out to help.
weird...
t*ts is censored where as other worst words r not...
just as death murder rape war...
janet jackson and J timberlake r censored where as the news from war r showed evrywere...
i can't definetly understand our society!
the fcc are nothing but money grabing media frenzied lunatics who grew up as suppressed children whos parents were jesus freaks and never said a"bad" word in the house but you know what fuck the fcc
Just want to pass on a humorous story about censorship. I read in a mag that there was a man who called the Censorship Comm. ppl and asked them to take bare feet off of TV because he had just gone thru couciling for his foot fetish that had destroyed his marriage. Apparently they were thinking about his campaign and the thing that stopped it was the fact that one of the rules for censorship is that the "organ" has to be protruding from the body. Go figure. Can you imagine no naked feet on TV? LOL
Censorship has been taken to the extremes lately. After Janet Jackson exposed her breast on TV or something. Just look at the uproar that created. It was all over the papers and everything. Why? Its just human, all women and men have em. And cussing, we all do it from time to time, some more than other.
They are only words right? How can a word be offensive? God, world and people in it, GROW UP!
Censorship SUCKS period.... in all terms yeah i geuss it's good to a certin point but when people get fined from saying tits on a show that says the program may be unsuitable for kids unter the age of fourteen before they start the show then it as gone way to far
censorship sucks balls!!!! i think that it is about time that bad words become good words!!! i have been cursing since i was in 3rd grade!!! and i didnt learnt it from tv!! i learnt it from the adults around me!! what are they gonna attatch built-in censor to people next?!!!
Censorship is getting a little out of hand.. i mean.. so many people curse.. its not even funny. Im hearing my five year old cousin say words i would have been smacked for if i had ever said them..lol but.. Its almost like its becoming a second language to everyone. I remember sitting in.. on a group of grade 6's... for a class i was taking...they were watching a movie... but it did come across a few swears... none of the kids twitched... ooo'ed or aww'ed... or anything.. its was like just any other word. Its not like the old days anymore....haha
I thinks its dumb and if the show does it they make the person say something else which makes there mouth look like it had a dam seziure.
I think its pretty sad every time you turn around you here about the fcc and there censorship. The fcc sets back in there big black shairs acting like there are our big brother. I am sorry but if there is a song on that you dont like change to light rock, if there is something on tv you dont like change channel to Mister Rogers. I understand what happen at the superbowl and it was wrong what happen. I also think more people knew what was going to happen they they want us to know. The radio channel here in ohio had so many new rules that they had to follow it was sick. To bring to the end what I am saying SCREW THE FCC.
I have TIVO. My son only views television through TIVO. He has free reign to view whatever he wants. He just doesn't have the override code to see shows above a G rating. (he's 4)
As he gets older I will decide what is appropriate, as long as shows get rated correctly. If a show doesn't recieve a rating it is rated NR which is the same as XXX.
With this concept in mind I don't care if hard core porno is on television, because I take steps to do my job as a parant. Censorship helps, but is not the answer.
Tools are in place that takes the excuse "television made him do it" out of the picture. Now if the staff at the movie and video stores do their job the entertainment industry is out of the picture.
The problem is we will still have teen pregnancy and Columbine. Parenting is the answer.
Cancer, as for your post "Amen, sing it preacher"
Censorship does suck because if people dont want there kids swearing or saying "tits" than why let them watch the shows that have that in there than they blame the show even tho they let their kids watch it and it even has a rating before the show even starts but noooo they dont pay attention to that....
