Do you think we're going back in time. With censorship taking over everything again, are we slowing reverting to the 50's? I've noticed skirts getting longer and music becoming mundane and "user-friendly". What is going on?

I would like to know if you guys have noticed this as well. And what are your thoughts?

fasions styles and mentalities tend to cycle...so yes we do seem to be shifting back into more conservative idealisms....but it' won't last....

I just got done watching Deadwood where they said cock sucker 27 times.

The newest Star Wars movie is rated PG-13. It has far more violence than any previous Star Wars film (all previous episodes were rated PG).

I don't see any trends towards more conservative media and communication.

it might be a gradual thing. ever since Janet Jackson flashed her boob her in Houston, things around here have gone a little more conservative. What drives me nuts is that Clear Channel pulled a rock station off the air for some urban latino hip-hop crap. we fought hard and got our rock music back but on a different dial. same dj's too.

LOL, I definitely have to agree with Cancer on that one. It is very true what he says, nowadays censorship is overrated. There are so many ways to cuss it is hardly looked down upon by newer generations, which is sad really. Things are more aggressive, more violent, more illicit, and there is plenty of foul language (even if used for the sake of humor). I'd say that instead of going back to the old-fashioned ways, we're going down-hill as a society. In my opinion morals are being thrown out the window, and immorality is being welcomed on the red carpet through golden doors into a tomorrow that is far less from perfection than we expect it to be.

have not noticied things like that happening but then again i dont pay attention to people much anymore, if u were to come to where i work u wud swear u were back at school with all that happens there lol.

I find that no doubt fashion might be going back, and maybe a bit of the music! Some of the bands coming out now are pretty shit, although i find that we are at the same time moving forward and i hope and dont think we will go back to far in time! *prays* (but to who)

Yes, in trying to make the minorities happy I think that we have made the extremes more generic, or more bubblegummy so they aren't extremes anymore

i haven;t noticed anything, infact when you turn on the TV all i see is violence and sex oriented things. As for clothing i sport the short short skirts and so do other grls here in cleveland (but not as short as mine hehe) infact our skirts are gettin shorter. But on the radio...well they censoredout the word ass and weed which aren't swear words at all! But that's just the radio which sucks...

the current government on the other hand...is certainly trying to make policies that take us back to antiquated notions of "decency" ... not so much as to affect our day to day life (because that would interfere with their primary lord, commerce) ... but possibly enough to hinder social progress

i guess when the goverment gave us some freedom we kind of took it over board so now they are reducing our freedom with music and fashion cause the skirts was getting too high and the music was getting a little too nasty. They want the control back so they are going to take away the chance for us to be free to say what we want to say. see i was raised on rock and country. i do still listen to that type of music once awhile. I wish the musica and the fashion world will clam it down and please remember there is people who like to wear whole peices of chothes not just a thread. so i do believe that the goverment has the right idea about the fact to take back some control but not too much.

It has been said what goes around comes around. Life travels in a circle. So maybe you might see somethings come back around and somethings you don't. Like it states in Lion King "The Circle of life". If we don't learn or study the past we are doomed to repeat it !!

That is one thing that we are not going backward on. There have always been protests for free will, for the mentality fo the communities being controlled by parliament law, and in some aspects there are a lot of rules sanctioning an individual as to how they fit into society, but I dont feel I have been 'given' my right to become more or less obscene, more of less 50's-esque by a group in the House Of Commons, who usally only get the Seat because of their bloodlines.

The world has become over PC so we dont offend anybody at any time of course I prefer this to racism, but its OK for children to watch movies menat for those over 12 because an 'A' has been put into the film classification?

Television has become base. Furniture is sold by flashing nakedness to attract our attention. Adverts have become simplistic... in fact I saw a billboard today for a toothpaste, simply saying 'Pure. Clean. Fresh.' as if I wasnt even expected to be able to decipher constructed prose without someones assistance.

I know Im not totally answering the question... but the world is dumbing down, to make thinking a more comfortable and less self-discovering experience, and this worries me considerably.

I don't think we are going backwards, but they are trying to do a good thing although it is not always the right thing. You see more on daytime TV shows than most R rated movies.

I believe the clothes thing is just a fashion thing and will dwindle with time just like all the rest.

I think extremism begets extremism. The more shows that write "cocksucker" into their scripts, the more censorship is demanded from the conservative masses.

Problem is that mainstream gets more and more correct and cleaner but on the other hand underground gets more dirty! Both sides tend to extremes and I think that it all will snap at when moment!

I observed that many mentalities are still of the medieval times especially where I live.Anyways for the skirts getting longer,er... how would they get any shoter?aren't short enough for you? lol

As for the cencor,here it is very strong.Most topics aren't allowed to be seen on the local channels:for example non chatolic religions,since my country is chatolic.

aww going back ward doesn't mean all of that. i have a friend whose grandma is clearly open and all those so call new sex act. yeah she done all of em and that was back in the 50's so if backward means hiding things again kind of but if you look at it another way all weve been doing in the fashion world lately is goign back and men fashion never realy improved much anyhow. censorship is happening in my opinion because parents are now letting the tv raise thier kids and if their kids happen to see something they wont take the time to explain it and so on. so if the media is being blamed for every little bad thing thats happening well so they are deciding to play parents. and I realy don't see the point when everything is censored and the news tell you of things like that anyhow lately thats all the news have been doing. topics are always child molestation, war, drug bust, official caught with hookers and so on.

i think things certainly do rely on the past but i also think that we go back and forth every time we do something, i mean we were evolved from the past so we will always rely on that in some form or another

it depends on whcih circles you travel in some groups are going more concervative and others more wild but a lot of the old fashions are coming back

I don't really feel we are moving backwards. But the sad fact is we are a majority ruled by a law making never satisfied minority. We have laws that go against the constitution and the bill of rights. If people do not start standing up against this, I fear one day we may all be mindless drones ran by the government :(

We are a society that is growing ever more concerned with the morality of our children. We are more open to what's "obscure, obscene, and only-lawrd-knows-why", and perhaps sometimes we step over the line a little too far when it comes to the things we say, feel, speak, express, and see.

It's all about protecting common decency. But, sometimes it goes to the extreme on that as well.

Hmm, but if you watch the news lately, clips of torture, beheadings, executions are displayed. It's not like it used to be 5 or 10 years ago. So, we're not going backwards yet.
