To anyone out there who has ever been called a freak, how do you take it? Do you consider it an insult, or does it depend on the context?
I for one an proud to be a freak. It means that I'm not normal, and normal is so boring. I'd rather be a freak anyday. And it's always funny to see the person who's trying to insult you get frustrated when you smile and say "Thank you."

With my prominent fangs I get stares and names called all the time. I just blow them off as being rigid and inflexible. I pitty them for being such a ''cookie cutter'' person.

"That's Ms. Freak to you." Heh.

Usually I say it first.

"Yeah I know, I'm a freak."

I try my best not to call attention to myself. But one time I was having a psychotic episode and someone did call me a freak. And I am sure that was what most people were thinking. But name calling dose'nt bother me. No matter what we are labled the truth is we are all different on some or many levels. It's just a shame we all can't get along :(

Well I kinda look like mainstream society's idea of "normal"...but it tends to blow peoples minds how Freaky my thoughts can be,So i don't get called a freak all that often(though i wouldn't care if anyone did).

thy gets called many things for so many reasons. some is ment as an insult but for their lack of knowledge of who thy art they fail to know that some is embraced thus upon recieving such knowledge all they have left is a stupid remark before leaving and , if they decide to take it to far instead of that witch some does for feeling stupid for your embrace of what was supose to be a insult. they just face my wrath

I don't stand out in a crowd but I might be called a freak if you get to know me ..:)

We got called freaks last sat night.. admitadly we were walking down the busiest st in sydney at 3am wearing gothy skulls and crossbones, rockboots corsets and a hat or two going home from a club, but to be called freasks by the sydney hommies in their pink geminis playing girls just want to have fun, like really !! and we weren;t even wearing cyber dreadfalls..

I think that anyone who needs to insult another person or label them to make themselves feel better or appear "cool" are the ones who really need help.

huh if someone called me a freak i just give them my best evil laugh and say you don't know the half of it but thanks for noticing... and if they keep getting in my face witch is the way it seem's to happen alot i give them 4 lil reminders of why you don't fuck with a freak in the first place

in high school...basically whenever anyone said anything to me that wasn't a question...which was usually something along the lines of "freak"
wait a minute and then say something like "ok...are you going to follow that with anything or are you just a one-word kinda guy?...i dont want to be rude but...if there's nothing else....i'll just be on my way..."

...I used to just ignore them...now I retaliate...heh heh...its easy to psyche out normals...follow them at a distance for a bit and then jump on a bus and stare at them as you move away...or just stare, silently...they dont like that...lol

when someone calls me a freak i tend to jump as shocked and look around saying "where oh my do you think i'm safe will the freak get me"

I can't remember anyone ever calling me 'freak'. My parents call me weird, not in a offensive way though.

i haven't been called a freak except when refering to in the bedroom, people, mostly men, have said to the average person I seem perfectly normal, then you get me behind the bedroom door and I am another person entirely, a freak in bed.

no seriously half my friends are true freaks both behind the bedroom doors and out on the street it's great ..... our more "normal" friends love and hate to go out with us because they never know what we are going to do next and it excites and scares them at the same time.

i've been called a great many things in my life. they used to make me mad. but then i remembered that society is full of sheep and they are just jealous of the fact that i am different.

I don't get called a freak, but I get stared at constantly and treated as one as I am not only a dark heart cat lady but a disabled one. It's alright. Karma is my best girlfriend. *cat grin*

I get called a freak a lot. It actually makes me proud. I know I am "makedly unusual" to quote Webster's. Who wants to be just like everyone else and follow the herd...not I.

In response to the last one I have a tshirt that says you say psycho like its a bad thing.

The kids in my car care class used to try and say psycho in the cheeriest way possible when I would walk into the garage/classroom.

Anyway. I am a bonafide freak. Always have been. Got my head slammed into a wall one too many times as a kid or something.

I made up a new definition of "normal" about 2 years ago.

Being a freak isn't being normal, it's being original. Maybe I want to wear what's comfortable, NOT what Jennifer Anniston (sp?) is wearing, or how she has her hair.
And for the younger "mainstream fashion trend goths" just remember it's about the lifestyle, not the hairstyle.

When I’m called a freak I take it as a compliment. I’d much rather be a “freak” than be considered “normal.” Which what is normal? Being a freak is normal in my eyes. It used to really bother me when someone called me a freak or another other name. I use to cry in my room while listening to any depressing music. Thankfully I’ve gotten over that fact that I am a freak and people are always going to remind me of it. ^_^ Now I just smile and say “Hey, thanks!” Because now I could care less.

I know what you mean Stormie. Besides the Freak part, I get asked if I haven't grown out of this "phase" yet.

It's who I was at 16, it's who I am now... if the "normal" people don't like it F@#$ them... I don't remember asking for their approval.

I consider now as a compliment. Being called a freak tells me i am not as that who called me it, which raises my face. I would hate to be that which insults me, for it is a pointless act which shows they are more focused on me than themselves.
Maybe it is them who are the freaks as they seem to care more of insulting others than observing and protecting themselves.

Well back when i dyed my hair black and already have a fair complexion, i was called a freak in the mall by some jerk for no reason. So yeah i know what it's like and a fight almost broke out over it but that was the past. *shrugs* My mom said i looked like a witch or a vampire. that didn't bother me *smiles*

I've been called a freak many times. I know that they are telling the truth, that I am a freak, so it really doesnt bother me when it happens. I just tell those people that yeah I am a freak and that they should get over it.

I myself, like a lot of other people I'm sure have been stared at, whispered about, called names.. I don't listen to them. If they have nothing better to do with there life, then they don't deserve the time of day to be tolerated. But I don't take it offensively.. Obviously I know I'm not normal, to other people. i think anyone that is different is a freak and therefor an individual and therefor sexy,,,,i say the more freaks the better,,,, conversations are always so much more interesting when talking to freaks.
