ok, now there are many diffrent ways a vampire can die but i want to know in your opinion what ways are true and whata are just myth?
some examples are,
*sunlight (very unlikly... guess u cant go to the beach as a vampire *tear*)
*silver(i thought that was just for were wolves?)
*holywater (hmm but i thought that was only for evil things)
*crosses (there isnt any cathlic or christian vampires?)
*Stakes in the heart (i guess thatd kill anyone wouldnt it?)
*chopping off head (id hope they wouldnt have to live decaputated gosh)
*lack of blood (anyone can die of starvation)
There's also magic that can kill some. Enough to kill or to wound, depending how powerful the vampire is.
sunlight does hurt me...
it hurts my eyes, and makes me ill...
It also makes my skin crack...
I don't tan or burn, just get sick...
I think it just depends. Some of them are really silly for example the stick in the heart, who wouldn't die?
I've heard that there are people with vampiric tendencies who can't stand sun light or certain artificial light.
But just because someone can't stand something that usually in myths says it is vampiric, that doesn't necessary mean she/he has vampiric tendencies.
For example if I satay for some seconds in the sun, even in winter I get a huge headache, but it does mean nothing.
Come on, the suns rays irritates people if they stay long enough. What else is new? lol
i live in the desert so i am tanned instead of pale ..but the brightness of it annoys and hurts the hell out of my eyes..hense special contacts...the sun alsow drains my energy..makes me tired and want to crawel into a hole..
crosses?holy water? hummm we are talking real here right?
and what person wont die if you seperate his head from his shoulders? or put a giant size hole in his heart? *shakes head* thats all hollywood crap...
now as for starving from not drinking blood? its just like any normal person...if blood is what you need to sustain life and its taken away from you...well then you are not going to be able to function normally ..
And just because sunlight burns your skin badly it doesn't mean you're a vampire(general speaking) There's a skin disorder that the sunlight could easily burn you. It's rare and I actually got it from the movie The Others. There's a special footage about it on DVD.
let me say again, I don't tan...
I don't burn...
my skin cracks, as in breaks open...
and when I go out I where glacier glasses...
(they block 95% visible light)
Sunlight bugs my eyes, and only direct sunlight makes my skin itch and hurt a bit.
Silver? I hope not, as I wear a lot of silver jewelry!
Never encountered holy water (yet) and crosses I haven't thoroughly tested out.
Decapitation- That would kill anybody.
Lack of blood may be a possibility- If I get myself on a steady blood trail, I might feel weaker when I haven't had my said fix.
Just my thoughts.
I reallydon;t thik you can find a total verdict on whats true and whats myth, as it often gets very misxed up. I don't believe in any of those apart from the idea of a lack of sources, and thats it.
oh i should note. when i siad blood i should have siad needs. vampires of physic energy may also die if they dont get suffinct energy. same with all other types a vampires
I hate the sun....it hurts my eyes and it just bothers me you can see to much but yet to little i preffer to roam in the night when not everything is not known and i can hide in the shadows.
Also i agree that there are things they say can kill and vampire that i believe would kill anything i know for one i wouldnt want to walk around with no head and a stake in my heart that shit would hurt...so on and so forth
Ok... Obviously a stake through the heart would kill anyone....
Sun light bothers most.
Holy Water is good for bathing in.. (Lol, I have never tried it but I hear it clears skin really well.)
Silver... Don't know, don't care
Decapitation... Same affect as staking... Would ruin anyones day..
Um what else was there...?
Oh well when I die, If I die somebody will be sure to let you guys all no how it was that I was parished..
I think that whatever would kill a mortal would also kill a vampire. But as far as holy water and crosses go, I think that's a bunch of bull :P
its more myth than truth. sunlight, holy water, silver etc wont kill me
the one thing i dont understand about the holy water and crosses is why would jesus want to kill vampires? and why would things that relate to him even be a weakness? i personally dont consider vampyres to be evil at all, i think they are a species and people should be speciest agianst anything. so why should things that are holy even effect a vampire unless they were like a demon?
Its cool.. Double post happen to all of us at least once.. As far as the whole Jesus related items having a weakness of Vampires...Someone holds a cross in front of me and calls me a demon of hell I am just going to look at them, smile and sink my fangs into them just on principle.
One thing people have mistaking is that jesus dosnot want to kil them humans do the only thing would be that no demon or creature from hell can ever touch anything that is pure and comes from god and in a small way rather very small way so does god canot or rather does not want to b or touch anythign that is evil and comes from hell. In which case if you throw holy wateer to a vamp he will surely die and die is not a good word for ti seince vamps are alredy dead but rather they go back to hell.
sunlight can makes me sick...holywater no...silver and crosses no i would be in big trouble otherwise i wear a silver celtic cross almost daily...decapitation i think kills just about anything stake through the heart yeah vampyres are not immortal...
you cant really say what will kill a vampire and what will not
everyone has there strengths and weaknesses so you cant really generalise things
my opinion
silver -- stop watching blade movies !!
fire -- would kill anything
stakes through the heart-- again....
sunlight-- some vamps are photo-sensitive some are not
garlic-- please...
thats all i have to offer
so in your opinion vampires ARE demons? i dont think so. i dont think they are evil either. i beleave thats just a stereo type.
garlic lol oh yea forgot that one. well i didnt know that was even mythed to kill them only keep them away... kinda like off or bug candles lol such a retarded myth
in my opion is that lack of blood and chopping off the head r sure ways to kill one of us but the rest i think are a myth
everything has the conpasity for good and evil not all vamps are evil i really dont know any that are so the holy water and cross thing is BS
well..every vampire..has it`s own weaknesses which are different from the others..alas..every vampire is effected by the same things such as sun..water silver holy water cross etc..then it just depends upon the strength of the vampire..
Well, a stake through the heart, beheading and lack of blood would kill just about any living breathing creature, so I'd have to say that those are true. I don't believe in the rest of that crap though.
It's the same thing right? Being starved to death eventually drains your energy, your strength, until it gets to the point when you have none left and eventually die.
Starvation for a vampire? Did we learn nothing from Angel and Anne Rice?
Vampires can survive indefinately without sustance. It simply makes them cranky and insane.
hmm "live indefinatly" are you saying they are immortal?
crosses an other religieus artifacts were born from legend long ago, besides i belive it was the persons faith in the objejt that made it repeal a vampire. thay really have no efect on a vampire, sunlight can destroy a vampire, me myself cant stay in the sun long i get sick an will get sores on my exposed skin. Any major damage to a vampires head or heart can cause death, thats the best i can tell
*sunlight (very unlikly... guess u cant go to the beach as a vampire *tear*)
not really an issue but it makes us weak
*silver(i thought that was just for were wolves?)
gotta love that cool with metal
*holywater (hmm but i thought that was only for evil things)
any one for a bath?
*crosses (there isnt any cathlic or christian vampires?)
wear them all the time
*Stakes in the heart (i guess thatd kill anyone wouldnt it?)
ouch wait do I have a heart
*chopping off head (id hope they wouldnt have to live decaputated gosh)
ok now that would mess my day up.. killing me like that
*lack of blood (anyone can die of starvation)
no but I get really still till some one messes up and bleeds on my lip
I tried a small experiment. I went out in the sun. I'm not a vampire! YES! but hey don't get your insane thoughts just safe. I might be a Lycanthrope.
The first day I found this site, and logged on was a full moon.
sunlight - plausable.
silver - as i understand it metal does not effect vampyres.
holy water - possible but unlikely.
stake to the heart - think that would kill anyone.
holy water - possibley harm but not kill.
decapitation - this is about the only one i think is ganenteed to kill.
lol add garlic to the list> cant fingure that one out. garli is a nice additon to amny of my meals!
Sure - there may be many ways to kill a vampire... However I see the inherent weakness of a vampire as something different. The wekaness is that transition from mortal to immortal - maintaining some contact with the world without becoming alienated - lonely - hopeless... That internal struggle is perhaps the greatest weakness of all...
sunlight - blah! I love the beach. Put on my 666 spf....GOOD TO GO!
silver- turns my skin black/green
:)
ok sunlight it dose burn and make us sick but it wont kill us a stake threw the heart will kill any one the same with behiding thoes are a given holy objects will do nothing trust me i were a cross all day long and holy water im sarry but no it will just get us wet and the garlic thing for some it can make them weak and sick and for others it tastes good but still wont kill us
garlic......................definitely a myth, i personally dont like it but thats just me
going back to whether vampires are immortal. A vampires immortality does not make him invincible. By this i mean that just because vampires have the oppertunity to live forever does not mean that they're going to still be alive if they are blown up into lots of little pieces, or something else like that.
I believe that the last three on your list can harm and endanger a vampire..Of course if someone with a large peice of whatever they have, stuck you in the chest, broke through the chestplate and then punctured the heart, then of course yeah, anyone is going down...
Decapitation can be another one...You have no head, no brain no nothing there goes your G.E.D ( lol ) But really, who can think without a head.
Now all the other ones on your list I do not believe in at all..Silver, sunlight, holywater, and all that other good stuff....No, they have not an effect on your body....Well, I wish I could explain how I view everything that I have started to talk about but I have to go right now...
vampires cannot die... nothing dies... energy cannot be destroyed...
Are we allowed to include links into these threads? Maybe somone has a very good source that explains the ins and outs and dispels fiction?
The problem is that there are so many varying takes on it. I personally agree with the majority. Vampires are generally avoidant of sunlight, and have varying degrees of discomfort or pain from it.
Vampires cannot be harmed by holy water. Nor garlic. By definition, a vampire is someone who needs more than the ordinary mortal to sustain animation. They need more than solid food and water, whether it be energy (prana) or blood. Therefor, lack of blood or energy would slowly drain a vampire until he or she is lethargic, then kill him or her, just as a normal person would die of starvation.
A stake will kill.
Decapitation will kill.
Vampires are not the supernatural being we see in the movies. They are composed the same as any human, they just have more needs. They call it a curse before it is a handicap, at best.
IT'S A QUESTION THAT YOU CAN'T ANSWER UNTILL YOU MANAGE TO ASK ONE
i think that people just made all the weaknesses up so they could feel safer some vamps. might not like light though.
Its classic folklore. Its hollywood that made all this up.
Light Sensitivity is something that affects each and every vampire differently. Generally those that can see fine at night, without need of lighting, are more sensitive to the rigors of sunlight.
I myself suffer from it to a medium degree, my skin can blister if i am out in it for a long time, but alas, maybe it is different for a half-blood.
But i haven't met many others to know...those real vampires are a secretive bunch, and on here it is very hard to weed out fact from fiction...
Stake through the heart i am unsure of, i feel it beating, and i assume without it i would most probably come to a swift demise.
Though once again, i don't know if my needs, that of a half-breed, are different to those of "Sired" or of full-blooded vampires.
Same goes with Decapitation i assume
Having said this,
I myself experience a heightened state of regeneration. Cuts and wounds heal exceptionally fast on me. Though i am subject to most things a normal human is.
Sometimes the regeneration properties can be a pain, such as in the case of ingrown toenails. The regeneration is negative here, instead of positive.
I scar, though mildly...I wonder if perhaps piercing or penetrating my heart would kill. My regenerative power generally take a few hours before they begin to do anything noticable, and then watching my wounds alone can entertain me for quite some time.
*silver(i thought that was just for were wolves?)
*holywater (hmm but i thought that was only for evil things)
*crosses (there isnt any cathlic or christian vampires?)
I eat with silver, but it is far from pure, as such, i honestly wouldn't know. Touching it causes me no discomfort, although putting silver against a wound causes an interesting sensation...
Holy Water and Crosses....
I personally enjoy the sight and feel of some churches, and i often enjoy being like a wolf in sheeps clothing. I have evn put my hands in holy water. It has done nothing to me at all. no odd sensation, nothing. Though perhaps now-a-days the holy water isn't as 'holy' as it once was, and also maybe this can be attributed to my half-bloodedness
And lastly we have lack of blood, or in my case essence.
I feed from essence often, and on the odd occassion, blood.
Although for me blood is like a birthday present...it's a annual thing for me, the need that is. But when taken at other times it is sweeter and makes me very very heady, kind of like copious amounts of alcohol i imagine.
Many Many years ago i imagine this would have been more and more a problem, with less people around and the like...but now because they're are more people around and they are more open and social, i can satiate my need simply by attending the local mall in the evenings.
Then again this all comes back to me being a half-blood and generally inexperienced with anyones situation but my own. I'm just giving you my personal feelings.
Adrian
From all the posts I read in this thread, what Danny said is the closest to what I think..and a stake through the heart would also kill anyone, vampire or not.
But, I believe in HLV's, not Hollywood vampires, so I must say that the Sun light is probably what might afect a vampire that's also highly photosensitive, as it is more sensitive to all things around it.
The lack of energy (may it be from blood abstinence, or lack of sources to feed from), can cause damage, but I'm not sure that it could kill.
Just my oppinion. I still have a lot to learn.
check out sanguinarius.org, that'll tell you all you need to know.
probably just like the fact that all humans are different and therefore can tolerate different things or not, vampires are most likely the same way-the older you get, the stronger you get, the more you can fend off...not to mention that the smarter you get, and therefore don't act quite as rashly as the fledglings might
If it will harm or kill a human it is very likely it isn't very healthly for a vampire either.
Decapitation,Fire,Stake Through Heart, that will kill anyone...vampire or not
dont kno if this is relevant but im allergic to silver in piercings, it wont kill me jus makes me very irratated and sore???
sunlioght hurts my sensable eyes aswell so i generly look @ the ground insteed
i have to wear sunglasses when it is cloudy, but that doesn't make me a vampyre.
Couldnt tell ya. one I hate the sun anyways because i have to wake up. two im sure the stuff would kill anything or anyone. So the last thing that comes to mind is Skin Cancer.
I for one do not like to be out in the sun light but I will if I have to as the sun hurts my eyes in so many ways and I think that if they would just make things and places open all night then i can do everything I need to dowith out ever going out during the day time...
I can't stay in the sun unprotected for 5 minutes without getting into trouble...
haven't tested yet how long I survive without my head... ;-)
sunlight is uncomfortable and makes some of us very weak and sick but death like you said not likely silver no garlic makes me sick as hell holy water no crosses no stakes couls kill anyone chopping off the head could kill anyone lack of blood good possibility if you starved long enough and got sick enough its a good chance you could die
I am very impressed with the many oppinions expressed here. it seems on the majority that vampires have the same weakness as human beings.
some additional thoughts about about if stavation is a way to kill a vampyre
when i first studied vampires i learned that everything contains energy and we eat food for energy. vampires no matter what type they are also need energy but seem to need it more then others.
Bright lights and sun hurt my eyes.
When I don't have blood, fatigue and joint pain set in. I also become very cranky and irritable. Then, there is the lust for blood, thinking about it until I get it.
I think that the silver is just a Hollywood filler to make stupid people think it is true
im glad that there are myths about us, that means that people will be more suprised when they cant kill us easily and when we attack in sunlight.........
Stakes through the heart.
Decapitation.
Fire I can agree with those.
I also think serious enough damage to the brain might do it.
And probablly sun light.
As far as lack of blood I doubt they'd ever actually die, just wish for it.
Barring that I'd say anything that didn't kill a vampire right off could be cured with enough blood.
And I'd say that holy items and garlic would probablly hurt or repel a vampire, but not kill one.
Oh don't forget knots and spilled seeds. Supposedlly a vampire must utie all knots and pick up all spilled seeds.
I think that most of those +ways to kill Vampires+ have been so over used in movies that reality has been blurred by peoples imagination. Some think that everything they read or see is true.
Thats a good point. The media can confuse reality from mythical sources.
I do feel uncomfortable and burn easily in the sunlight, b ut thats because I have pale and sensitive skin.
The problem with myths is that they are myths. Usually built up over a long period of time from various sources, and a lot of vampire ideology from Slovac legend of the vampyre. I don't think that any of us could try to define anything of that sort.
hmm yes that is very true...... but the problem is proving whitch things are true and whitch are totally bogus. And im not sure if its even possible to do so as many of the people here have stated that every vampyre is diffrent so have diffrent weaknesses.
sunlight makes me ill, Silver burns me, Putting silver against my skin burns, There is very powerful magic that can kill. But a stake in a heart would kill any one not just a vampire.
many things may kill my body but you will never kill me
vampires i believe are not immortal there for they can die from anything that a human can and vampires are also immune to what humans are for say sun or crosses ect.
Just a note... I believe that the myth of silver is the same as the stake to the heart... not only with it "mythically" kill a wearwolf but also a vampire if shot, stabbed, ect...through the heart.
I've wondered about the fact and fiction of vampires for a long time, and recently decided to conduct a study.
I went to a church and filled a small flask with the holy water I found there. Later on, when I had the opportunity, I crept up on one of my vampire friends while he slept and poured the flask out onto his head to wake him up. He was understandably irritated by the fact that I splashed him and bitched me out (I had it coming I guess), but otherwise showed no ill effects whatsoever.
On the flipside of that, I went to this Christian store in the mall and asled a friend of mine who worked there if she had any empty bottles that the holy water came in. She handed it to me and I went home to conduct a new experiment. When I was alone, I filled the bottle with ordinary tap water and grabbed a water pistol I'd purchased just for the occasion. I entered the room that another vampire friend of mine was, and made sure that she saw me pour the bottle of water into the squirt gun. She asked me why I was filling a water gun with holy water, and in response, I shot her with it. She clutched her face, fell to her knees, and shrieked about how much it hurt and when I saw her later, she had a red mark on her cheek where the tap water had made contact.
Another time, while in the presence of my vamp friends, I thought to gather more personal data, and set up another experiment. I walked into the next room and promptly pretended to freak out, claiming that I saw a mouse in my kitchen. I asked my vampire friend to hand me the heavy candlestick off of my shelf so I could kill it. What I didn't tell her, however, was that the candlestick was pure silver. She handed the candlestick to me all the same, without even so much as flinching. Another friend of mine even grabbed the other candlestick from the shelf and helped me look for it, and he's a self-proclaimed lycan.
I do have one vampire friend who won't enter my house because I used to have a cross on my front door (it was there when I moved in), going so far as to shield her eyes whenever she came near the door. Another friend of mine, however, picked up a cross that had fallen off of my wall and hung it back up (he made a joke about hanging it upside-down, but hung it the right way).
I even had a room mate once who was a vampire. He lived with me for 8 months, and during that time he hardly left the house, even at night (I wouldn't recommend leaving the house at night in my neighborhood anyway). If he ever did leave the house, I was always with him. This led to the obvious conclusion that he never fed on blood, human or otherwise. Eight months without blood, but he never got weak, and he certainly didn't die (he never complained about not being able to feed either).
I haven't bothered with doing experiments on fire, decapitation, or a stake through the heart, because let's face it, that stuff would kill anyone!
Draw your own conclusions. I did.
beshadowedchild - it sounds to me like you've summed it up quite well! a lot depends on perceived danger, be it real or not.
the only time i've heard of the sun causing death was heat related deaths... headaches, nausea, and skin problems, yes, but death, no!
garlic - well, i imagine there must be someone out there who is actually allergic to it, which could cause death through anaphylactic shock (anaphylaxis) - (believe me, it's not fun when you feel your throat start closing!!! emergency room trips aren't on my list of favorite things...)
silver - even an allergy to silver would likely ~not~ result in death. discomfort, infection, yes, death, well, only if it's being ~swallowed~ by a highly allergic individual!
crosses - i think only if they get ~stabbed~ with them... cross in the heart, anyone? (just kidding... almost 7 a.m., haven't slept yet...)
Ii don't think an accurate answer can be given till a very and i mean VERY through report and study has been done and filed.
It does however give me an idea. I'll see what kind of list my house mates can come up with and i'll post them on the site.
I don't think it really matters in the long run. What it ultimately boils down to is that no matter what way to kill a vampire you can discover, think up, or hell, even make up, there will always be some so-called "vamp" out there ready with an excuse about why it doesn't work on him/her. The same goes for "lycans".
You name it, they'll dismiss it. That's about the size of it.
I think we have reached the end of this discussion. Thanks peeps!
