ok i have created a summory of the story of the Exercist It was A boy and I have allso provided a link to read more on him
Author William Peter Blatty fictionalized the true story of a child's demonic possession in the 1940s. Apparently an article in the August 20, 1949 Washington Post, told the story of an unnamed 14-year-old Mount Rainier, Maryland boy who had been freed by a Catholic priest of possession by the Devil through the ancient ritual of exorcism. Although later attempts to check this story out have met with mixed results, most people seem to believe that it’s true. (Not necessarily that the boy was possessed, but that there was an exorcism — this ritual still takes place occasionally even in this day and age.)
In the film, the boy is a girl —a cherubic 12-year-old redhead named Regan, who, seemingly possessed by the devil, starts to levitate, say nasty, dirty things and spit up green bile.
ok heres the link sorry about that i could not make a hyper link so here just do the whole copy and past thing good reading...
http://www.strangemag.com/exorcistpage1.html
To me The Exocist was a bunch of wasteless film...no one not even a *possessed* person can spin their head 360 degrees...like in the movie...the spinal cord would be severed, the cartlidge would rip and tear, the musles would as well...and the blood vessels and arteries would be heavily damaged. So the movie was trash to me
The movie was ment to scare people the human body your right can not do those things but the stroy of the boy is a good read none the less and I found the movie bleaveable when i was 12 yearsold now i think its just good to watch i like the others that followd
yes...I agree...but if a movie says based on...or inspired by a true story...then make in believible..and the movie Emily Rose was more believible to me
thats a valid point but i have only one word for that: hollywoodisation! and if thats not a word then i have just officially created it lol
You know Hollywood, they always have to toss in a little of the impossible to scare the crap outta people...
yeah...it was more of a scare flick than factual events. I loved it though. It was a damn great movie and I wish my demons were talented enough to make me do the spider-walk down the stairs! LOL
Not my cup of tea. Rather comical in some scenes. Not what I would expect from a "horror flick".
Apparently the Vatican is teaching another course this year on "Exorcism 101"
Recent documents have been released dealing with an exorcism performed by John Paul II. I Don't currently know where they are, but can probably find them.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/10/14/world/main944527.shtml
I can agree with all on the limits of what the human body can not do. But really don't we watch movies/T.V. for the entertainment value more than the learning of new stuff?
LMAO renfield. I've watched Exorcist and in my opinion, yes, they probably tweaked it alittle more than they should have because people want the truth. If they wanted to produce a false movie they should have made a different version of it making it clear that it was over exaggerated. At least Exorcist: The Beginning was more believable.
i already know its a true story
i did research on it
coz i was interested in it
excercist the beginning was just someones idea of how the story started no fact baised but yeah more bleaveable and i like the other movies to those were totally fictional even though it was suposed to be about the priest being taken over by the devil
Kinda interesting... never heard the real story about it... shows alot of differences when people try and create movies about those topics... anywayz enjoyed reading it ...
Being catholic, i do believe that procession and things of that nature are real. Yes some people do fake it. but i have to say that in our chruch the priests are still educated in the art of exorcism. In this day and age it is just kept oh well i guess you can say under wraps they dont want everyone to know for they od not know how everyone in the world thanks to the media will react.
I liked reading about. what some say the TRUE story is.....
the roman catholic church still has Grand Excorsisit..in fact the pope does a few a year...though they use modern psychology(sp?) to rule out demonic possession...the have never dismisses the roman litirugy that is used against the demon...so go figure.
dude the movies sucked ass no matter who is asked about their opinion
Very interesting about all of this exercism stuff going around now. Even one about the Exorcist. Sweet.
Yes I'm Aware but the movie the Exorcist is a little on the "wow that was fake" side.
I found the movie creepy and rather unbelievable in some parts but it was rather entertaining
im with darkwolfman on this one.. but i lived near Washington DC and i walked by the stairs that were in the movie, even before i ever saw it. those stairs freaked me out
OK we all know that movies have to be a bit exaggerated to make them more interesting to watch.
But, yes this story is based on the true events of a boy from Maryland. Once they couldn't get him exercized in Maryland they had him brought to St. Louis, Missouri (where I live) and they had him places in Alexian Brothers Hospital where they completed the exercising.
After the boy returned home .......(where I have heard that he still lives a mostly normal life now)
the hospital still seems to have suffered some after effects........
The floor that the boy was on is no longer used and was turned into a storage floor......and of course there have been several stories coming from the hospital staff that that floor became haunted, no one wants to go to that floor....
http://www.prairieghosts.com/exorcist.html
The story of that particular exorcism did occur. I live in St. Louis, MO, specifically the subsidy or Normandy. The Normandy Hospital that this took place at is on my block. It is closed down now, but the story of the exorcism that occured there in the 1940's is in fact, true. Google search "Normandy Hospital, MO" and i bet the results will prove what i've said here...
ok my thoughts is the first time i seen the movie my dad had the lights out and showed me the devuils face that is stuck thru the movie. if you go to the scene where reagan's mom goes thru the kitchen and paused it where the lights go out i think you will see the devil face on the airvent above the stove. the second part where you will find him is when the priest is napping and dreams about his dead mom on the subway steps there is flashes of him and if you pause it just right you will see him staring straight at you.
i dont like that face as i believe thats what lucifer would really look like. the stories about the boy is all true but some of it was fabricated to look more real.
that film scared the crap out of me i was 10 when i first saw it, however i do believe its a lil over exagerated
I find the movie to be extremely humorous. I own a copy and always pull it out when I need a good laugh.
If such a degree of possession ever did happen, the person would have died from the neck trauma.
May the gods bless Hollywood for taking a simple instance and making it 100 times worse...and hysterically funny to watch.
I think that Hollywood changes the story around a little bit to keep people from trying to visit the places of where it all happened by the requests of family. This also happened with the movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The girl was orginially like 15 or 16 and she didn't go to college...obviously...and she died 5 years of this possesion. What a thing to live with.
they have said that during the making of the movie that they tried to cut out alot of the scenes not needed and they couldnt as hard as they tried get rid of the devils face that was in the movie. however their has been numerous deaths that happen to the workers that worked on the set but also they believed the set was haunted. they really did film in the exact home of the boy that was possessed.
aahh..The Exorcist. One of my favorite movies of all time. Very valid points, but if you really want to be scared, read the book by William Peter Blaty. That's scary...
The possession subject is quite fascinating for me..there's always the doubt, where the suggestion or hysteria end, and 'something else' beggins..
Of course I also don't believe that a person could survive turning it's head 360º, but there are documented cases where the supposed possessed person did impossible things with is members..spooky..
I laughed through the whole thing... I actually did the pea soup thing on cam for some people in a chatroom.. They were all grossed out.. lol
ROTFL
"mirabili dictu, don't you agree?..." - Reagen McNeil (am I spelling this right?)
i can rember watching that movie when i was a kid and it scared me . i had nightmares for a month lol..but now being older it is true it was more lame to me ... no one could with stand that kind of stuff... the link was a very interesting read i enjoyed it emensly..... thankyou
Yea,when I first saw The Exorcist,it scarred the hell out of me...I will not watch that movie alone to this day...
About the movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose, that was a really good movie,in my opinion and also true...just saw it a few weeks ago...I love to watch stuff that deals with possession, scares the hell out of me...maybe I'm just a scardy cat,but that stuff scares me....hehe
And I didn't know that a Pope could AND does exorcize people,wow...so that's what a Pope is for, huh? hehe
on cable they are showing the behind the scenes of the movie and linda blair will be giving insight to it too.
linda has said that she wish that she knew then what she knows now cause she would have never made that movie.
tonight im going to watch the behind the scenes of the movie on AMC channel. it comes on at 9 or 10pm central time. those that have cable id watch it cause it will give you insight on the movie and even linda blair will be commenting too.
the show only lasted a half hour and it sucked..booooo!!
I think that the exorcist series is pretty cool but damn those hollywood producers for putting unbelievable stuff in movies.
i cant believe they got the new exorcist movie called the beginning. i think the only one that made the big bucks was the first one. they said on the little behind the scnes that people was getting sick and pregnant women was going into labor early at the theatre.
well, i kinda thought that the first Exorsist was pretty much craptacular.
Great reading the artical was good and the movies are good but the best one will all ways be the first one
i didn't know it was a true story until i read it on the websites
Bah, the movie's fun! I love the part where she'd crawl down the stairs backwards.. That one creeped me out.
i havent seen the whole of the movie, i got half way through thought it was rubbish so turned it off, like come on that would NEVER happen, they could atleast put some truth in it >.
mos def Pinky hollywood can do some amazing things but they r fun to watch
I thought it was complete crap in the facts department, but I also thought it was really funny.I'm a demon, some of use can posses ppl, but not a lot of use.we kitsunes can't then again,we don't truely belive in the devil either.
There is another movie that I can't remeber the name of now staring Timothy Dalton that is supposed to be based on the 1949 exorcism.
The head spin is not in that movie as I recall. And it seriouslly creeped me out.
Most excorism's are a show put on by the catholic church to show their power. Usually the person that is supposedly possesed is just messed up in the head. Although I'm sure that there are a few cases out there where demons have tried to get through to our domain, by using the lifeforce of a living being. But then again I don't see how excorisms would work in that case.
I believe the movie "Possessed" and the case the Miss Annie and the others fromt he fair state of Missouri is covered in a book titled "Possessed-The True Story of an Exorcism" written by Thmas B. Allen-which if you enjoy reading things like that as I do, is a truly fascinating story.
the film was shite but the story behind it is interestin whether it was a boy that fooled the church with a prank or whether it was real possesion i find it very intersting either way
it is also well known that several things went wonky on the set as they were filming the Excorcist-much like the deaths that followed the release of each of the Poltergeist movies
I was younger when i first saw the Exorcist, so it scared the hell out of me... until i saw it as an adult.. then i was kinda disappointed.. i did read the true story however, and i did find it to be very interesting.. sometimes the imagination can be more scary than something you can watch on tv.
nice mentioning hollywood hannah, but anyways I have mixed feelings about the exorcist thing. half of me believes it half of me doesnt
i believe that it is all fake people can't be possessed by the devil
i think it was a great movie and it still is to this day
The story of the exorcist, is just that, a story. It was based on events that took place but remember when dealing with Hollywood, take it all with a grain of salt, a little sense of humor, and remember it's just a movie. They have to make it so you want to see it.
the movie was good, but i agree with most of us.. only in the movies can some one walk down stairs backwards the way she did....
The first time I saw the movie I was home alone and about 12 so needless to say it scared me out of my mind. To the point it hasn't been til here recently that I will watch scary movies.. Yet they still fasinate me.
the movie was silly, on a real front none of it is realistic and if the priest didn't know any more about what he was doing than that he should have never tried in the first place
i like watching the movie and ive read the book...not because i think that is a portrayal of an actual exorcism but for the pure entertainment of it...ive watched the sequels as well but they are not as interesting to watch as the first...particularly the 2nd one...i found that one to just be bizarre and seemed to follow no one line of story, simply going all over the place in the plot
weird... saturday night on the History channel they did a story about real exorcisms and they mentioned that.
yeah it was said to have been real. I don't know where i stand on the facts of demonic possession.
I LIKE THE EXORCIST IT SCARES THE SHIT OUTTA ME GOOD FILM!!!
the movie sucked not scary at all. movies never put in the true full details of a story. exorcism is real but its nothing like the movie. a person is just possed by a demon and starts talking in tongs. an exorcism doesn't always free you from possesion.if you are not freed you will most likely be killed or be keeped in captivity.
though it was a good movie there were parts of which that were not physically real or possible but still a horror film cornerstone in filmaking...
This movie should not be considered a horror film in any respect. It was most likely specifically made for those who would so easily believe its verity simply because of its having to do with Christianity, and belief, is what the film makers suceeded in doing.
it was just a passing fad. the cinemas go through stages where everything is about christianity or witches or vampires or zombies cos they can dribble what they want and a few will be silly enough to believe it
There recently (this year perhaps, maybe last) that the precursor to the famous Linda Blair Exorcist was set too. The beginning so to speak. Its done much better. Not scary at all, as I even found the first to be a little funny.
Just a thought.
Secondly, ritual is something I don't particularly diss even if it is catholic. Personally because I have my own. If people want to put faith, albeit maybe blind, in something...that's their perogative. Now, abuses that take place during said ritual I have to take offense with sure.
they did a documentary on it recently and had several people whoi witnessed it tell the true story
well, i think it was a great movie and still freaks me out. the story behind these type of things....just like the recent excorcism of emily rose, i find more intriging than the actual films of course.
Exorcisms to my knowledge do still happen, probably not nearly as much as back when, but i think they still do. There is no possible way that they could do all of that physically, but the power of the devil is said to be a great power, like the power of God. But I believe in neither. So I guess anything is possible.
I enjoyed both "The Exorcist" and "Emily Rose". The first one was obviously based on some truth but in order to make it in the theaters it had to be played up. Hollywood has a way with changing facts or inventing facts to sell the movie. But it was enjoyable. I don't think that either movie was meant to be a documentary. It's up to you to research it and make up your own mind.
exorcism r infact real weather u belive in thm or not...i learning how 2 become a demonologist and the 1 of meany rituals i must remember how 2 do is a exorcism...but if u think that none of this is real, there's no such thing as a devil then u have 2 ask yourself...vampires r the children of the devil, children of the night...so if u want 2 say everybody on this website is crazy 4 being/beliving in vampires then i have a simple hand jesture just 4 thouse ppl
I am not sure if i am one ot believ in exorcisim, i saw the original and thought it was retarted and the exorcisim of emily rose was worse. it might be possible to be posessed but getting the demon out by christina practices wouldnt prlly work
i saw both and i thought that they were ok. but in movies... they take out most of the truth and facts.
Seems weird, thoguh i agree that no one could spin their head 36o degrees
i read a thing on emilyrose.com that had diffrent excerisms all over the world and it said that u have to be catholic to have and excerism is that true?
The movie was banned for years! so by the time it was allowed to be shown all
the hype everyone had talked about,it
was a anti-climax...ha
I am one who believes in excorsisms and being possesed. But I truley think that the movies were based on a true story but they took all of the truth out of the story. They did that to make the movie scarier. I mean. who watched the excorsim? Yea...it was pretty scary but would all of that happened in real life? I highly doubt it. My aunt has meet someone who was possesed or had some kind of evil demon in them or something. My aunt has pretty much baptized her house and this guy came in and started freaking out. So yea. I think the movies were to scare people. Well thats my 2 sense. Got a problem with it? Go suck my big toe!
Have a nice day!
Well, in my opinion, I believe that your soul has to be willing to become possesed by an outside force.
i too beleive that the movies are fakes, i think that the reasoning behind fewer possesions are that more people possess demons than back in the innocent times. thats just it, me and most people on this site possess some kind of demon, if the person is strong enough then the demon will have lesser influence over the body, but durring an excorsism, demons feel immense amounts of pain and becomes stronger, just like humans become stronger when angery or are in pinch moments.
"the excorsim of emily rose" the movie has not much to do with what really happens. they let her die of hunger.
very interesting i did like the movie though i supose that generaly a exactly historicly acurate movie, not only would it be hard to do but also might not be "entertaining" in the eyes of hollywood
not my type of movie but most of films r based on reality...but they just make it sensational...u can hear about this very often...nothing much i say...
to my knowldge aside from the vattican only two other religions have excorism rituals..
the santero's and those who practice voodo (when i say this i mean the voodo priestesses you see in africa and in parts of cuba)
its possible the muslsims may also have a ritual but considering how advance the culture was when their religion was devloping they probably abandoned the idea of demonic poossesion..for illness
the movie itself..was based off a possible true story...but in reality the only way the roman catholic churh would otherise an actual excorsim
would be as fallowed.
parent/guardian of the afflicted brings the aflicted before the priest
who brings the case before the arch bishop who brings it before the regional cardenal (the cardanal in the us has never deemed any case actually posses since that stupid movie came out lol)
if the cardanal thinks the case is true he brings it before the vattican the pope there for sends agents to see the arflicted if these agents deem the aflcited possessed then they move to do an excorisim but they have to fly bakc to rome and get the popes aproval in writing
so its a very lonhg tedious process that takes months some times years...
yes the movie exaggerated "slightly" lol but its hollywood they always do that....as for the movie i preferred the exorcism of emily rose but the movie is still a good movie
i saw that one..and ended up throwing a beer bottle at the screen lol
horror movies just keep getting dumer and dumer and more obserd
i just love how ever..real life in terms fo ecorsims lol how much time it takes for the church to actually act.
you'd think that if such a destructive and evil force where to gain a foot hold on our world..that our holy orders would be quick to act..but instead they review and talk smack..and debate it out..lol
just funny..to me is all
thats awesome....i never really thought that the exercist was really based on a girl...
the orginal movie is based off a boy code named "bobby" or "robby" bye the vattican. (chruch officials refused to give out the real name of the poor kid and they sort of surpessed the evidence of the excorism, simply because it was a private matter to them)
in the late fourties ealry fifties..two preeists *like in the movie hehe* they where contacted bye the pope to perform an excorsim on that boy..he wass ten or twelve i think
any ways the excorism lasted a few days from what i have heard..and then it was over.."bobby" or "robby" or what ever his real name was..spent the rest of his life in a phsyc ward...
i would imagine..having a entity of pure evil...older then tike itself in your body...outta truamtise the heck out of you
This is very Interesting to think about I will check out the site and give a write back.
i think it should be stressed that the movie greatly employs hollywood style affects
real possesed patients...do speak in odd ways and shake and ocasionally throw up
they dont float in the air their heads dont spin
according to the vattican the phraise
ABDANDON ALL HOPE.... apeared in latin on *robby* or *bobby*'s stomach
thats the words on the gate sof well from dantes inferno
most geniune excorism are conducted after a catskan is amdinistered and phsycologists have cleared the afflcited of any mental illnesses
From what i have read..the last ecorsim performed in the united states was in nineteen sixty eight i thnk
on a giril who had tried to comit suicide..her heart stopped for a few minutes..and when they brought her back...
she brought somehting back with her...
That girl...is the last authorised exosim in the united states
I THINK!! not this info could have changed...i havent looked this up in a while
i think the girl after they exocirsed the demons...was whisked away bye the vattican and is currently either dead or in a convent in rome.
See she was a suicide..and in orthodox catholic beleifs thats a biiiggg siinnnn
her parents never said anything about it and no one ever mention anything about she kept it a secret
so its beleived that after the excorsim..she confessed and the chruch offcials relasng they had saved the souil of some one who comited a grevious sin..and further more the head xcorsit beleived they had unwittingly done the devils work
she disapeared after the excorsim....
another theory..is that what she brought back wasent a demon and it was infact the spirit of a saint who took hold of her
and that the priests who expelled his spirit...jumped to conclusions...or where infact evil men them selfs
either way..every singel xcorsit and church offical involved in that case died some months after it happens
heh..thats the end of american excorsims lol
the church hushed it uop real fast..and the vattican denies any knowledge of it
I still want to see The Story of Emily Rose ^^ the excorsist was lame >.
They Demon Pazzuz used in the story is actully a non-poseing Demon. Pazzuz is a middle Eastern Demon who's statue was actully use to ward off other demons.
haha man hollywood really fowled up that one then..if they used a "good" demon in that context
lol cinimatic ingorence
i agree with those wh say that the exorcist was a bit exagarated but i still liked it. i still have to see the one of emily rose tough
the emily rose one blew chunks
and yeah the orginal one was deep
hollywood may have got it wrong but they made one hell of a scary ass film in the process
i could just imagine hollywood going so far as to televise a live eexcorsim
This entire thread is fascinating! It's good to see that it's still going strong as well.
Possession, in a sense, is a fact. Voodoo of Africa or Haiti, as someone has already mentioned, uses Possession to please the Loa of the region or whoever they tend to call up to please for that ritual or time. Roman Catholics still do believe in Possession to this day, that I am aware of through many friends of that stream.
In any case, recently, as of a few months ago a friend of mine went into a cemetary and could not leave a certain grave. An Amelia Palma Jones (sp?), the old woman died at 94, and will be 145 this year. So she's been dead relatively long.
In any case, she went with friends, and they ended up having to pull her physically away from the grave three times, she returned a fourth. When they tried to put her in the car she bolted and they couldn't find her.
I was told to talk to the girl. They couldn't figure out what was wrong, I studied her as she told me of what she felt.
The woman 'told' her that she was a) Cold b) Alone c) It was dark d) she didn't want to be there anymore. I also asked her if anything else had happened. She apparently had been extremely cold, freezing almost and had had disturbing nightmares about the old woman.
I gave her a charm to lessen this spirit's effects, it worked until the charm fell off the necklace. The charm was in one piece, the necklace in one piece but apparently it had come off and my friend claimed she had never taken it off.
In My Opinion, my friend was going through Obsession when I saw her a day after the event. During the outting she was in Infestation in the physical sense that she felt cold and heard the old woman talking, pleading.
It's been a few months now, I still keep my eye on her but she's shown no outward signs of anything else happening. Since the event she hasn't gone back and refuses to go back, she looks terrified if we mention a graveyard of any type or description.
I would like people's thoughts on this, as it is only a few months old.
Keep in mind I have talked to the entire four who went there, seperately and together and all their stories add up. Every detail matches. Even down to the graves they all visited when they went to them alone ( another story in that ).
I am no means qualified to determine Possession or not, nor should I. But I would still like your opinions, good bad or downright Nasty. Voice it.

The discovery chanel had a thing about that boy a few years ago, But i missed it
I have not seen the Exorcist, I did see its prequel. Not bad.
I, personally, liked the prequal more than the first movie. The story it's based on is interesting tho..
the movie was good....still like it. anyway i know lots of stories about exorcism....
good reading though
If you use the right words in the search engines you can find quite a few examples of exorcisms...
The only thing is most of them aren't called that. Bad hupe and all that...
for all you people saying that the exorcist was lame... before you comment about a movie that was made so many years ago you have to take into consideration people's mentalities at the time and so on and so forth. a movie that seems lame to us, at that time scared the living daylights out of those who watched it. so yes the head spinning and floating around are quite far fetched, but that's hollywood. apart from that bullcrap, the movie at the time was a cinematographical gem.
