What is so fascinating about the vampire myth? As early as the 1700's the myths
existed, to present day. I was always
fascinated with Vlad Tepes, who Dracula was based on but in reality was not
considered to be a true vampire. Still to this day I study all I can about him, wanting to read everything and know
everything I can. Why? I'm not quite sure but there is something alluring. Just like there is something alluring about the vampire. Maybe it is the fantasy of living forever? Maybe the fantasy of giving yourself to a person co completely, as you do when being bitten? Maybe it is in the image; the sharp fangs, the dark hair, the smouldering eyes, and that voice!
Every vampire needs a victim...
What is your opinion?
i think its the appearance as well as the myths/stories that everyone has heard.most people like v's b/c of the sexuality they bring to the table...
for me personally it is the mystery that surrond vampires. I mean no one really knows the complete truth and that is what is alluring to me. plus th thought of living forever.
To me is a bit more than just the myths and the mystery around the lifestyle. It is a deeper connextion, a blood one and i suppose you do understand because you have the same blood as i do. The inexplicable attraction to Vlad Tepes and everything related to him is maybe the desire to know where you are coming from..he is our forefather afterall.
I think it's simply the interest in darker things. People want to know more about Dracul, Bathory, and other dark, evil figures because it is just more interesting than the stories of good people, which are rather forced down our throats from day one.
They are dark mysterious, immortal very sexual and have all those cool powers whats not to like? Oh and they are free from a lot of the rules and b.s. that normal society imposes.
Vampire symbolize forbidden sex. They sneak into people's bedrooms at night and use them. We can project all of our darkest sexual fantasies onto the vampire. We can be victimized or adopt the role of the vampire ourselves. Either way, we avoid guilt feelings regarding these fantasies because they exploit our vulnerability to supernatural forces. How can anyone resist a vampire? How can a vampire deny his impulses when he has been cursed by a higher power to roam from bedroom to bedroom in search of victims? If any fun is had during all of this, no one needs to feel responsible. Hey, the vampire made me do it!
A dark creature with magnificent gifts. It has a lot to do with the mysteriousness of the vamps, as well as the sexuality. The various styles and types, Old World more traditional and classy. Then you have the new age brash, and rebellious.
I think it's natural for some people to be attracted to dangerous forbidden things. Afterall, vampires are the ultimate bad boys.
i think that for myself it is a combination of everything..I just really love vampires!
Everyone is drawn for different reasons...Some because it is what they are...Some have past life connections...Some it is their dark fears...Some it is the Lust for Darkness...Some it is a fashion/social thing...Some it is rebellion...Many others reasons are out there...
Very true Enigma. It's entirely possible to have more reasons for the draw than people drawn... one commonality I see though, is the romanticism of the mythos.. Just an observation.
The question I think you should be asking yourselves is; would I be drawn to Vampires if I had never read fiction stories about them or if I had never seen the hollywood version of vampires.
Modern authors and Hollywood have given us the romantic, dark lonely, sexual versions and they are the one's we are drawn to rather than the Vampires from mythology. Or in my opinion they are.
True Rowan...i wonder if people would still be drawn if vampires would be actually desfigured monsters, cruel and the image of everything humanity hates.
yes i think every vamp does need a victim and its hard to tell who or what they are at times
There is a song by Godsmack called Vampires and it asked the same question and poses a lot of the same possible answers as everyone on here has suggested. Its on the cd titled Awake
Hmm...Intersting question...It can be a number of things if you ask me..The urge to find out the truth, the desire to become one yourself..The feeling you get when you see dripping blood...There are alot more...
its different for everyone, im just not sure, ever since i could remember i had a respect and longing for the darkness and the complete understanding of all things, and well since i grew up with death surrounding me i have sought to understand death and the mysteries that surround it, when i was a girl i would imagine myself being a vampire, for vampires i would think ecompassed all that i ever wanted to know as far as understanding the darkness, but i have also found that there are others that can be just as much as vampires just with their own origins and mysteries and its what drives me on, to learn and understand all.
My biggest fear is death. The idea that we could escape death, if only for delayed time, just brings peace of mind. Like heaven does to a catholic.
Please try not to use all caps next time.
Thanks.
:) STABB
i think it has to do with the fact that he did things out of the norm and got away with them from such a long time. if you want to be remembered, you have to do something that will catch everyones notice and keep it there for years.
Physically, vampires seem to have a sort of natural charisma that draws others to them.
what draws me to vampires is the suductive stare...and the bitting
If they are drawn to the idea of the fictional, immortal vampire, it's usually just a fascination with the macabre.
The idea of immortality, the beauty, and the seduction.
They represent an ultimate change, a way to become less human. To change the repetitive lives with just one bite. To darker people who may have lost their illusions about an angel coming to save their souls, they are a dark angel bringing either swift death or a chance to join the ranks of the damned.
Also, they're just bloody cool.
For me the sensuous/erotic aspect has alot to do with the attraction. Add that the idea of drinking blood and I'm hooked.
My opinion is that the energy of the vampire is overwelming. Not to mention the darkness behind the creature is amazing.
i believe its the beauty.... and for those of us that are scared to die... its the thought of not having to go through with it.... to live forever...
For me it's the blood that is why i consider myself one it is the pain and being able to commit pain and have pain commited upon me in order to have the rich crimson flow. I don't know i guess it's sexy and a bit of a turn on for me maybe i'm just crazy but pain, blood, biteing i mean they are just the sweetest things my mind has offered to me. Ok ok ok this is probabaly makeing no sence but its just really the lust and knowing that this is where you belong and feeling like you are accepted amoungst those who are like you.
I have to agree with enigma that everyone probably has there own reason for being drawn to vampires. Personally I have always been attracted to the dark mysterious side of life. The allure of immortality mixed with the overwhelming desire to be loved on such a deep and long lasting level. For someone to give you the ultimate gift of eternal life and to be able to share that with others is amazing to me. I feel that the bond that vampires share with one another is also a big attraction who could ask for a better family than one that is bound by blood not just genetics.
I think it's the sexual seduction and and the thought of living forever... The biting is also a seduction all in itself.... It's an art and u must want it to have the love that comes from it...
I dont' think its only the sexual sedution, theres something that initially draws someone towards a vampire. There has to be something that makes someone turn or make eye contact so that the seduction can begin.
I dunno why for me... I believe it is the fact that you are so close to another taking blood.
it is the dark and mysterious aspect about them i guess
Because I like to poke dead people ;)
Actually that is a good question Im not sure why I am. I think for me its all other kin just something closer to my own kind.
Vampires seem to have a 'presence' that makes them stand out in a crowd, even though they may not look anything out of the ordinary.
I think for some people it is the mystery, the idea they are there and they know nothing about them, if they are not afraid or simply do not believe.
For me it's the mystery and the sexual energy. The connection to the blood holds a great deal as well.
For me it's the mystery and the sexual energy. The connection to the blood also holds a great deal of attraction as well as well.
(Sorry about the previous post, mind seemed to be skipping tracks there.)
The thought that something other than humans exist in the world.
It is the mystery, the unknown. They are also erotic, dark. Some fear what they don't know. I embrace those things, and I don't fear a Vampire, but I like most of the forum, The darkness, the blood. I am not able to express my thoughts as wonderful as most if not all of you. But for me, I don't feel there is a down side to any part of being a Vampire. Oh one has to give it to the novels, hollywood and all that exploit Vampires. But I also feel that society needs to understand Vampires are real ppl, and work, and deal with the mundanes of life.
Just the desires, needs and outlook on things are different to some point.
Ppl crititize me for wearing black all the time, they look at me oddly, I don't wear black because I'm a Vampire nor do I wear it because I am a Witch, I wear it because I like it, it suits me.
Anyway I am rambling.
sexual seduction and and the thought of living forever...
For me its the taste of blood, the whole living in the darkness of nights shadows, and the mystery!
it is in their eyes as well. they seem to have seen and know so much
its the mystery and darkness. i probubly would still like them if they were ugly disfigured monsters......
its the fact that we all want to be something else other than human or something
it is the life style...
the way vampires live
not a care in the world
with the pleasure of the flesh
able to take ony male/female they want with just the look of their eyes
they are what mortals dream of being but are afraid cuz of how society looks down on us....
i like the sexual draw a vamp has.. the thought that you can have immortality is in my eyes a grat thing.. i could learn so much and do so many things.. the eyes are also what draw me in..
I think its the sensuality and bond, very erotic, of course not knowing the actual facts leaving mystery has to definately stimulate ones curiousity
everything about them attracts me. the thing about my hubby is his yes. they are mesmerizing
for me, its the mystery, the presence and everything that goes with vampires in general.
I think it is the fact that no one knows for sure if he was or not and there is evidence in both directions. I think it is the unknown that intrigues many.
Since when I was a kid I liked anything that is not considered as normal by society and vampires are of those things.
the knowledge shared by each other.
I would like to meet a guy or girl who would share with me all the battles they have been through and their inner experiences.
If you live for as long as they lived you would have a lot to talk to someone about.
I love their teeth, but who doesn't.
I like them as individuals.
I like that they could tell you a really good story and sidetrack all the BS of modern society.
I would love to see their museum and trophies. I guess it would be like the pitt rivers museum.
the perfect vampire in my vision has a lot of sexuality, he's manered, mysterious and gentle....but in the same time he's still a blood suckin beast/
Someone else said it was because of the mystery that surrounds the "Vampire(s)" and I have to agree with that. It is hard to pinpoint exactly what it is that draws me to the vampire persona or mythology. I just find it a very interesting subject.
For me it would be the appearance; the fangs, the hair, the eyes. It would also be thier appetite for blood.
There are many things that attracts people to the vampire world. It is the apperance, the mystery that surrounds us and it is tha fact of giving over total control to the one that has bitten you......That is what drew me to the vampire world.
Reannimation, the end of pain. Sharing ones essence of life. A bond between souls.
For me l would say what draws me to it is the unknown truth about it all. I mean it is realisticly an unsolved mystery as to why people in the first place came up with such stories etc surrounding vampires and what not.
For me i think its the attraction to a cursed (though some think of immortality as a gift) indervidual, as well as the suductive power of the unknown
I totally love the thought of living in the night and not being totally public
perfectly said in these lyrics
Few creatures of the night have captured our imagination like VampiresWhat explains our induring fasination with Vampires? What is it about the vampire myth that explains our intrest?
Is it the over tellings of sexual lust, power, control?Or is it a fasination with the inmmortality of the undead? And what dark and hidden part of our sightings are aroused and captivated by the legends of the undead? The mystery of the undead will continues to fasinate the livingVampires....Dead,
Sex and power and indestrucibility, not necessarily in that order, it depends on who you are.
*looks at the ordering of her own list*
Thanks, Freud.
i think it's the part of vampires that is unknown, vampires are drak hidden beings theres just something that you can never put your finger one allways looking for what it is that makes a true vampire.
Personally, I don't exactly know what draws one to a vampire. It's different for each person. It could be one lusting after their immortality, their strength, or the desire to rebel. Whichever reason, the fact remains, everyone is drawn to Vampires whether they like to admit it or not. Even if the people say "That's gross" or call it "immature", technically they are drawn to it. They just have to talk about it. I suppose it could be a mental thing. It more than likely is. For me, the idea of death, eternity, and having power, and strength...well, those are a couple of many reasons that I am drawn to Vampires. You are fascinating in my eyes.
In a few words,
Sexuality
Power
Strength
Immortal
Dark
Mysterious
just to name a few
I think its a mix of erotic imagry and the unknown. naturaly we seek answers but i think it also may have to do with that its so possible that vampires may be real that we look for that one piece of information that will truely say piont blank that VAMPIRES ARE REAL!
-baby fangs
Mortals are not drawn to a vampire...the vampire is drawn to the human....
The unknown also is sometimes attactive and scary...many don't know much about them....only what theyve seen in the media ....Sex has always been a good seller ...and vampires can be very sexual and very seductive
For me its mostly that v's are only out at night, since I have Hemeralopia- Day blindness; defective vision in a bright light, I found the stories of v's to be most interesting, I felt I had something in common with them. Also I give a lot of credit to the sexuality of them and the mystery that surrounds them, I mean how can one not want to be attracted to a vampire.
Sexuality of the embrace and of becoming, the power and the strength of the vampire and the dark, mysteriousness of the immortal life to survive the decades and/or centuries. Not having to follow the rules that mortals live by.
Its the mystery and the hypnotizing effect as they stare into your eyes. Its the unknown and the eroticism and the very darkness they represent to me.
i think it is that the vampire life is mysterious, dark, they can live beyond normal years.every vampire is different, has different abillitys, who wouldn't want to live forever, have unlimited power, control over animals, shapeshifting,it is sexual in nature, erotic, the vampire myths are mesmerizing, exciting,i always want to learn more about them.....
What I think is that vampires are an archtype and dark archtype that some people can really connect with they are strong and beautiful and with a sense of power in every movement when done right in movies. They are humans with almost perfection. They have only a couple of flaws but one flaw makes them dangerous having to feed. The other just means you'll find them only in the dark.
I think it's because of power. We see how powerful they are and subconsciously we get attached in a way.......but then again we might be attracted to the sexual side, or the darker side. By darker side I mean you don't have to be all gothed out to be a vamp. Most goth's proably like vamp's because they are everything that they want to be. Powerful, sexy, diffrent, dark, and most of all undead.
I like the fantasy of it all most of all, because i like the environments they live in. I am drawn to them through books and films, and the mysticism that is connected to their society and groups. I like their human appearance, but I am a fantasy man who likes all monsters, beasts and animals, not just vampires.
i dont know what it is that draws me but it has since i dont even know i think is in my blood. but i can say that it has never let me down
I have become drawn to them so much that my reading has been moved to all things Vampiric! yet i have not even scratched the surface!
I agree that it's an interest in the darker and sensual side of 'life'. There's also a bit of a submission need as well...
i think that every vampire has his/her own unique power to attract victims
Me again. I think that we are naturally drawn to that which we do not understand
I've always felt that it's just a calling. Some people have it and some dont. I've had it sense I was a little girl. I can't explain it and often times it cannot be explained.
Modern day times state that in the case of vamprisism, the idea of sensual touch, the grazing of fangs across the neck, the idea of eternal youth, to have love forever....to be bound body and soul to a dark and mysterious being who is both appealing to the eye and to the mind.
It's alot to consider when it comes to what your asking.
A little bit of danger, a little bit of leather, thats just on the outside. I think that it is someone who is differant from most, but flock with others. If not then what are we all doing here.
For me its the whole dinner suit thing , all those old movies and gary oldman . I feel like something primevil stirring inside tc
I myself am trying to understand what draws me to vampires. I am just fascinated by them. I think it's just a certain presence that they have to them - their mannerisms, the way they watch you, the way they go about their daily lives without caring about what others think. There is something mystifying and magickal about them. Their beauty is dark, and unexplored. I know from experience, that unexplored territory is always fascinating and exciting!
I myself find their darkness alluring. The fact of surviving through centuries in the shadows, only coming out long enough to take what is needed for survival and then disappearing into the night like a shodow into the woods. And the mystery that surrounds them too.
As vampire , I feel I hold the key to drawing my subjects. Either by seduction, surprise or the force of hidden powers.
i think most people like them because of what they represtent. Power.
Though they do represent power, a lot of people like them because they either want to be something other than mortal, or because it gives us an escape from reality.
it would have yto be i think one of many thing there eyes, teeth, looks, the way they talk, there moment i love it all
for me i think its more the creature of the darkness concept, sleeping during the day and feeding at night and the also the face that vampires have no emotions. i think it makes things more simple when emotions arent involved.
mostly i have to say power, noctrunal, immortality and to defy the natuaral order.
i agree with kabal plus the sheer beauty of them is what i like as well
people have romantisized vampires so much that i think it's more of the allusion of what we've made vampires out to be than the actual concept. I mean, if you look back to the actual Dracula, he wasn't sexy or alluring. It wasn't until books like those of Anne Rice and the like authors came out that people started well, obsessing, for lack of better term (of course this is just my opinion). . .
Well it's alot of things. But mainly I think it's the fact that it goes against what everyone thinks to be natural.
I think for me I have always liked the darker side of things...I liked blood...thunderstorms....intimidation and shock value of the lifestyle...and bats..I LOVE bats!!!lol I think it's mainly a fantasy with immortality though..
I'd say they come together to increase there numbers, every once in a while a good massacar and a feast, reminds them of the old days.
the draw towards eternal life is ancient. predating the idea of heaven is the egyptian concept of an afterlife. kings were buried with their organs in jars and all their favorite items nearby; they would be kings in the next life.
Osiris was killed by Set and torn to peices. but his peices were reassembled by his beloved Isis, and he would rise again in life:
"when Osiris' mouth was opened, his spirit reentered him and he lived again."
we have needed these stories for thousands of years, to stave off the fear of death. indeed, humans are the only animals on this earth who are mortal. my cats are not aware of their own impending death, and are thereby immortal. every moment to them is an eternity; they are truly alive.
every day i ask myself - am i?
I believe that most of it is carisma as well as the mystery surrounding a vampire fasinates people.
if we go back in history it is shown that people fear what they do not understand, and curiousity of the unknown combined with that, creates a fasination.
another fact is that the dark aspects of our daily lives is considered foreboden, and it is commonly known that the forbidden often holds the most fun.
There are 2 constants in the universe:
Love and Death.
The vampire is immortal and so has no death in it's life, it only has love.
This is what makes the vampire such a romantic symbol....it is a symbol of love.
It has to be the fact that it's so erotic. I have always found it drawing when it came down to the love ans sexual aspects of it all.
~Ember
I have to say the romanticism behind vampires is there sheerly because we associate vampires with the gothic, and gothic is associated with the dark, the mysterious, and the morbid beauty.
Which describes a vampire perfectly.
It could also be because vampires are the perfect imperfect. In history, those who were admirably noteable were flawless heroes. Brave warriors and leaders, peace advocates, martyrs etc.
Vampires can be sadistic, indulgent, and seflish, just like us, making them much more identifiable. And yet they are still immortal, perceptive, ultra-powerful, beautiful, eloquent, stealthy, and charming, which goes against our entire notion of what, in most hero stories, are the villians.
Romantisism and dominance... add a little charm and Anne Rice and that is where a lot of the seekers come from...
Lady Isabella
I think it's more like Godsmack's song "vampires" in which he asks
"is it the sexual overtones of lust, power and control? or is it a fascination with the immortality of the undead?". Hell if you ask me it's all of them!
