What a sad story.

My parents say al ot of bs cause of my clothes and we fight a lot but this is even sadder.

I'm just going to walk around naked.

sounds like the many times my friends and i have been banned from seeing our b/g friend because their parents thaought we were satan... get a life people...

When will there be a day that people can where clothing and it been seen as only that, a garment to keep out the weather?

When will there be a day when we can listen to music and people see it purely as music and not discriminate against those who listen?

When will there be a day when we can talk with friends and have no questions asked as to their intentions when can friends be seen as what they purely are, a comfort and a life saver?

When will our interests be left to purely that our interests, purely our own not an others to judge us by?

When shall the world be free from prejudice, from judgement?

When shall we walk freely amongst others with no fear of their prejudices?

Alas the answer is oh so clear, as with all things that mean to change the wrongs of society.

The answer is never.

We live in a world of hate of difference and fear of the unknown. This is our curse we may seek to remedy it but this is a hopeless task. Our world has a terminal disease. Nay our people. And the heart sickening thing is there is no cure. There will always be Prejudice and those who discriminate are the ones whoes ideas will live on imorataly.

But such is life.

I wear whatever the hell I want. It's not always gothic, but it's not always "normal". Who cares what kind of clothes a person wears? This was a little more than that, though. He didn't want his son to move back in with the mom...

THings are starting to change a little. I have 17 year old stepdaughter and her and her friends are welcome to wear what they like here. She is goth and so are her friends....though right now they are getting into Gansta dress. Which is kinda funny a bunch of rich white kids being all gansta. But whatever floats there boats they aern't hurting anyone.

I agree with LeMaurete. This sounds more like a case of if I can't have you no one can. This happens way to much in custody cases.

That's really sad. I'm glad I have the parents I do. Even when I went through the " I must wear everything black " Stage my mother let me and even became creative in what I wore. She's always supportive. I'm blessed to have her. My father just makes jokes and rolls his eyes. Now I don't wear black all the time but I still do wear it alot.

Very sad, but we have to admit this happens alot. ;/ God, Im so used to it coiming from Hollywood, California. To each there own. I dont judge nor like to be judge. This case turned fatal :(

Clothes doesn't define a person for who or what they are. Society has dictated that, and parents teach and raise their children like that. Brainwashing 101. It is truly sad. I wear what I want, when I want. Hell I don't care if people walk around naked.

the media spends so much time and effort dehumanizing goths into an image of evil by focussing on that fact someone wore black instaed of the fact they commit a crime....what do we expect people to do....the masses of sheep have been brainwashed by the televaliium into thinking we are an evil that must be destroyed....and then that same media is all shocked when one of their little mindless minions does the deed..
and yet a few weeks back right around the time of those "vampire killings in red deer", I asked a journalist of they had been to court lately...and if they had...who did they see there in the majority...a bunch of goths?...or a bunch of clean cut looking types...for out of most of the goths I know....which is a large section of the edmonton scene....very few have ever really been in trouble with anything...they wouldn't want to risk damaging a 300 dollar velvet skirt, or a 100 dollar fishnet shirt.
so although this man is very responsible for their own actions...I also blame the media for actively villifying our culture.

when i first started dressing the way i do (aka, compleatly randomly) my parents took the piss out of me, they still do but i just don't listen. they are moving onto my little brother now, he is taking after me :P

I'm going to once again be the bad guy I believe. It doesn't read or seem to me at all like this had anything to do with clothing style. It seems like a very troubled man with major issues murdered his son and wife - most likely over custody issues (though that doesn't explain the wife) and more deeply most likely because of other serious issues this guy had understanding basic right and wrong. In other words he was messed up.

This is like the reverse of most of these situations though. Typically it's "someone that dresses goth does something wong" and everyone goes on about how it doesn't matter that they dressed goth - it was just because they were messed up and did something wrong, and that every stereotype has people like that. It's a line of thinking I agree with - in this case though it's reversed, and now everyone is embracing the fact that he dressed goth as being the cause because now the "goth dress" is the victim. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way - this is the same type of situation as the above, and the fact that the victim dressed in a goth manner probably again has no bearing. I don't care if the local paper through that in as one manner in which this guy ridiculed his son - it wasn't the reason he murdered him. This happens daily to people that don't dress that way, and the ridicule just takes another form.

Don't let me psuedo rant detract from the sadness of the story, but lets not go to far off on a tangent that really doesn't have anything to do with the story - which is what this entire thread does.

it is bad when people don't realize that it is not what is on the out side that makes a difference. but as cheese as it sounds you do have to make an atempt to look deeper because most people won't show what they are realy made of untill you open your self to them.

I never placed any limits on my daughter's dress or lifestyle. To do so is to invite rebellion.

Better to let kids go through phases and come to their own conclusions on what and who they are - and be as supportive and loving as possible.

it sounds to me like they newspaper only used the gothic clothing to throw it into a twist... It sounded to me like a custody battle gone wrong, but they didnt want to say that right out because then it would make people question custody battles and the ramefications of visitation rights. it takes a minute to look at it but the gothic thing was the newspapers smokescreen.


However take a look at society and look the workforce. there arent many places that allow its employees to go gothic... its straight discrimination. Why??? because most of the business owners are middle aged people and they live in the past....

there r pple that saw me wearing "gothic" pants(long black pants wit chains) and thought i was weird cuz they dont dress like that i was like w/e u dont like me then fuck off but get 2 no me b4 u judge me!

all i can say is that things like that shouldnt happen, but always do and nothing seems to stop it...

i dont dress gothic cuz i dont although i dont know why, but if a child of mine would want that i wouldnt stop it even if i would dislike it... i would only frobid my child to wear things that are far to sexual but nothing else...

That father needs some serious shrink time. He shot them because he was so messed up in the head. Sending him to prison for the rest of his life will not really help him to understand what he has done. Prison is a bandage, not a cure. The world is such a totally imperfect place.

Ther could hve been more than what was in the report. But I have to agree it was he moving part tat made the far mad and the way he drees added to it, and may be the father found o about the boy anting to kill himelf and that pushed him far enough to kill the son.Either way it was sad.

That is simply disgusting. How can a parent, someone who is supposed to love and take care of their child no matter what, kill his own son because of his personal choices? And his wife, what happened to love, honor and cherish? This man is seriously demented. Those poor people probably begged for their lives and he cold heartedly took it. *shakes my head* The worst part is he will probably get away with it too. He'll get a slap on the wrist, an admonishment and be set free after serving a few years behind bars. People like that make me sick.

As sad as this story is the theme rings throughout our times. "INTOLERANCE" You would think by now that the human race would learn to let people be individuals. If we try to control one another into conforming to our wills and our ways then where would the differences be? I am who I am and I try to guide my children to the right decisions in their lives by giving them choices...and letting them know the consequences they will face. It is sad that I can't say dress the way you want to dress because everyone will accept you. But, I do try to let them be their own individuals.

I am sure there was more going on in this family than what we know.
The father did not want to let go of the son he knew ( probably six years old and copying everything his dad did, now he's older and forging a life of his own that his father is no longer the center of and does not approve of).
It is very sad for all involved.
It proves that we are far from positive recognition as a collective.

To this day my mother and my grandma tell me that I wear too much black, I enjoy it and I always wear black, I'm not gothic, I just love the way black looks on me.

I do agree though that there were many underlying reasons for him being killed... and maybe that what set him off was how his son dressed.

This guy was going to kill his wife and son regardless of the boys clothing.
Crimes like this happen almost everyday in some part of this country.

Maybe I'm not sensitive to this time of news, thank to my former career. I have been witness to many homicide crime scenes and have tried (often in vain) to help the victims.

I agree with you ...it is Tragic. When any life is taken it is a Tragedy.
But, I think parents act the way they do because of the template they were given when they grew up. Of course they can make their own decisions..but on what choices do they base those. Everyone has different ideas on rasing children. And to throw in to the mix mental issues...I think everyone should have a license to raise kids just like you have to drive a car...you should have to take classes. But that is against one of the amendments...sooo, that will continue to be my thought.
