This thread is a little different than most and it may perhaps cause some discomfort however I feel that it is worth discusing.

As Ianator for the Citadel of Darkness and Shadows for the Coven of Sangre Fidelis, it is my responsibility to research topics relating to Vampirism that deal with the more hidden and darker aspects.
My head Researcher CLIX has sent me a number of articles which deal with the psycologic nature of vampirism in people as it pertains to the "sleek sexualtiy" of the lifstyle.

The notion that Vampires and Vampirism is sexy has been one of the most influencing factors in todays Vampiric culture. However I would speculate that it has little to do with the overtly sexual nature some see and more an attraction to broken/flawed individuals and the idea of absorbing life energy to make oneself whole.

I would ask in replys to this thread that you discuss the possibility that the "sexyness" of Vampirism may perhaps be attraction to brokeness and a need to make whole through blood i.e life energy

Good question. Although the article is refering to a male Vampire it can be said for both sexes. A eunich as is only able to take and not give life.

Hmm, interesting. I have considered vampires as more sensual than sexual. I think they have been portrayed this way since their need for blood is as biological and as driven as the "need" for sex. The drinking of blood for vampires has also been seen as akin or even better than sex.

I don't think sexuality really matters since its the blood that is wanted, needed, and what gives sustenance no matter the body that it comes from.

It is an idea that has been very much dramatised with the hollywood vampire. As for what people consider "modern day vampires" I am sure it is not a trait that they all share, and a lot of the ones that do posess that trait, it may be hard to tell whether or not it is naturally their own, or whether they have a pre concieved idea of what a vampire must be. I think that it may derive from the "tainted broken" thing in part. One can never really be sure. Things like this are delicate and complex, things that one can not figure out in a day, it has a lot to do with psychology and the mind and as we know these are not simple matters.

And sex mind you, is probably the only way I can think of getting blood from someone without them either knowing or being fully aware of what is going on. Manipulation, seduction.....great way to get exactly what you want. And it has to be convincing.

Ok allot of things come to mind when I read this forum. First the part of feeding energy. All people in one way or another feed energy off people. Its human nature beyond vampirism. Second the whole sexual idea of vampirism I believe that media and television come into play. All vampires on movies are sexy and strong and approach there victim with lust before they bite them. This has attracted so many people even none vampire followers beacause lets face it its hot and sentual. I believe people have followed this example in there own personal lives. The thought of someone sucking your neck or wrist etc and then biting it has become very erotic to people. Lets face it we all have a little dark side who wants to be "naughty" and do things a little out of the social norm.

Yes,I really do believe most often that had hollywood not portrayed vampires in a sexual way, it would not have manifested at all. Either that or it is an obvious good idea for the vampire to be sexual, that anyone can come to that conclusion. But I do know that people believe that is the way it is supposed to be, this makes it extremely hard to find the root cause in all of this when it has been so soiled.

I believe they have become creatures of Erotic fantasy mostly due to books in which they are shown as highly sexual creatures..I also dont believe that orientation has anything to do with it, eroticism is just that to excite and enhance....The Psychological aspect of this would suggest as it often does that we are abnormal in some respects, I dont agree with those statements as sexuality in all its forms are natural....

Do you have any idea how many I have removed from life because they were broken, flawed, and full of issues. I don't need or want that. With this being said, I am still a "Vampire" (I hate this word and I would love nothing more than to have another one.) Deeper than this, I would happily remove anyone from my life that is only attracted to me because they think I am lifeless, or dead inside. I guess there are exceptions everywhere.

I think over time vampirism has lost the actual meaning it had when it started. The "sleek sexuality" is all some people see in it. There are only a few people who actually see it for what it is. From what I understand, it's a respect for things of darker nature.

Perhaps I've misunderstood but I don't see how a vampire's desire/need for blood, energy, or sex can be equated with being broken but instead the fulfillment of their needs. The theory they are necrophiliac's seems to be for shock value. With as many people as there are living a vampiric life, we'd have heard about that long before now.

I will elaborate where others have not. I believe when people say that, they refer to how a vampires whole "i am tainted, i am alone" schtick is sexy to some. What you cant have, what you want to fix, is attractive.

It took a mass of varied historical myths to create the fanged, Dracula type vampire. It wasn't a conspiracy against your precious Slavic vampires. I think the difference here is the fact that it is the vampires of myth, that were the fanged and grotesque, that are the attraction. We are finding the danger and the murder--or the idea of--sexy and attractive.

The title to this thread is "Discussion of..." not "Essay question answer of..." New ideas have come up, inspired by the original post, and those topics are being "discussed." Give it time, everything comes back around.

There are no issues of survival. Unless someone would die of embarassment if I told them they didn't do it for me. I am sexual, but unlike others, I seperate that from what I am. I have never, and will never have sex with a donor, not even to feed. I am not young, but I am not old and wise as well. I have never found any need to use what I was for sexual gain or to gain sexual ability. I can only answer your question for myself. I would be interesting to see what others think.

Of course they are by consent. Either they ask me, or I ask them. I make sure they show me documentation of receint physicals and blood tests. They understand that they will no longer be my donor as I see fit, with no explaination. It is more of a contract than a relationship to me.

I think part of the sexy appeal of vampires revolves around the intimacy of taking anothers blood or energy. With sex, there is an exchange of body fluids and energy flows back and forth between the indivduals. With great sex these sensations are hightened. So it would seem to me that the sleek sexy vampire image comes from the ability to woo these intimate fluids or energies out of another.

Lets not take this in another direction, please. It is more about how my donor respects their body than a check for disease. Again, I am not having sex with my donors, so some things are not an issue. I wan't them to know that I am going to respect their body in the same way they do their own.

blood is one of the most powerfull medium/power source in the universe and since vampires feed off of blood they tend to not only absorbe the memories and thoughts of their victims.but a piece of the soul of the universe therefor giving them the power to be both sexually powerfull but universally as well

It doesn't make me whole, IMHO. I am already whole, that is why I have the strength and will to do what I do. I hope makes sense to anyone besides me. :) I don't consider myself weak by any means. Nor do I feel that anything I do gives me missing strength.

What blood does in combination with the body, is amazing. Blood itself? just iron filled liquid. Throughout the ages blood has been regarded as magical. Well our brain should be held to that same ideology as well if you think about it, many things work hand in hand to make us what we are...to make anything what it is....like a colony of ants.

One thing that I want to point out, relevent or not, in the article it says that people who practice vampirisim is into necrophilia, or love of the dead, but isn't drinking blood just on the flip side of the coin? Blood after all is what is needed for life in all living things.

Does not surprise me, I don't agree with most things freudian. Necrophilia does not necessarily have to do with sexual activity with the dead, but by definition is a love of the dead (as said) most people don't believe me when I say that...lmao. But I don't really agree that sounds like someone who doesn't know trying to pretend like they do, and grasp at straws. Of course it may look like it is about that because of its "dark" nature, but that does not make it so. Its a rather lame "explanation" on their part.

Well the whole thing on the Vampiric Sexuality is the fact that vampires are dark mysterious creatures. Creatures who can represent beauty, or at least in the modern stories of such, not to mention is the fact they tend to feed from the sensitive and pleasure spots on the body, the neck, the inner thigh, those are places in which main arteries are located at.

Just like the view of the vampire is varried so is the meaning of the taking of blood.. as for me and my wife we do use the taking of blood in our sexlife it is one more thing we can share with each other. I am very surprised that there are so many different views on this subject. I only speak for myself here neither agreeing or disagreeing with anyone's point of view. I have stated before my beliefe on this is that the "Vampire" is obsessed with only the idea of love and life. Something they absolutely do not possess. Nothing is immortal. I have always been fascinated I guess with the sensual part of it, it is very alluring. However only a fantasy. Those living the lifestyle of Vampires may not agree because they are alive and well. Not Immortal. As for the energy well like Anti said I believe the same, Vampiric or not everyone feeds off of others energy. Not that it has to be that way just that it is in most.

Obviously I can only speak for myself but for me its more of an attraction to the domineering personality traits that Vampires have and I personaly don't think that having dominate traits means that your broken or flawed.

I think it also would depend on what a persons idea of what a Vampire is. Are they Sang or Psi? Do they take blood/energy through force or from a willing participant? Do they look like monsters from some Vampire movies or do they look like you and I? I think alot of varying factors come into play when approaching a topic such as this.

Vampires have always been portrayed as using seduction to lure victims to them to suck their blood. I think thats insane being as not all vampires are hot. (Hehe myself being one that's not). I think the most sexual part of vampirism is the orgiastic drinking of the life force and the romanticism of being an ancient being with infinite knowledge. Also by the drinking of the life force a vampire can become intamately aquainted with their victim, more intimate than any mortal ever could. That intimacy would obviously lead to sexual arousal

These also go together, and always have.

For one thing, a lot of the physical cues are the same when a person is afraid or aroused -- the pulse picks up, the breathing quickens, the skin tightens, the mouth goes dry, and there is that fluttery anticipatory feeling that seems centered just below the bottom of the sternum.

So sex and horror are linked, and this is reflected in nearly every horror story. The vampire is the classic example; "Dracula" is highly sexually charged, and the image of the suave, irrestistible-though-deadly person of the night has persisted ever since. We humans seem to be cursed with an attraction to "bad boys" or "bad girls," dangerous and sexy and not at all good for us. Perfect description of a vampire.

An even more extreme case is that of the incubus and succubus. Male and female aspects of the same basic idea, these are demonic spirits that steal not life's blood but sexual energy and life force. My horror novel, "Black Roses," is an interpretation of the incubus legend.

The werewolf usually get a somewhat shabbier treatment, being depicted as brutish and bestial and uncivilized, more of a raw and savage power. That, or they'd be Larry Talbot-tragic ... more the type that you'd want to give a comforting hug.

Romantic horror is a popular theme. A subset of romance novels and television shows involve vampires, ghosts, and other mournful doomed angsty evil beings as the objects of love.

This also works well in games; one of mine saw a PC fall in love with a sorrowful and innocent half-demoness.

I have always felt that the attraction of the vampire in both literature and in many cases reality has more to do with separation from society and rules than finding sympathy or sexuality in the idea of damaged goods.

Though it may be true that a common denominator in those who love or appreciate vampire mythos is that they are damaged goods themselves, the appeal I believe is in the ability or power of the vampire to not only stand up to the notion of who decides what is damaged goods but more so in the ability to completely ignore the moral and social rules of society all together.

To explain, I believe that in todays world, we are often forced to make moral choices that we don't want to for the common good of society or because the punishment for breaking those moral codes is too much. The vampire, because he has separated himself or herself from mankind as a completely seperate 'species' is free to make whatever moral judgement it wishes and since mankind seeks to destroy it simply for what it is, there is never a need to try and find moral common ground with mankind.

This 'moral freedom' would apply on every level and therefore carry broad cross appeal to different fans or readers who might secretly delight in having one or more of these freedoms.

Sexual moral freedom to remain forever 'unattached' and simply move from one 'prey' to the next.

Violent moral freedom to punish or get revenge outside of legal barriers.

Emotional moral freedom to not have to 'care' about humans or mankind because you are separate from it.

Political moral freedom for much the same reason. Why worry about government...that's for humans.

Property moral freedom wherein the vampire can steal, or destroy property because his power places him above such rules.

I'm sure that these can cross over each other and that likely, there are other moral freedoms not touched upon but it is this idea that I feel is the most common appeal for those who appreciate or wish for the 'dark gift'.

I still hold firm that what I do is strictyly business. I don't go to Olive Garden and moisten the seat, just because I am eating. No, because I am eating, thats it. For my own sanity I need to seperate the two. I am already dealing with a stereo typed vision of what I am. To take it further by humping everything that consents to feed me, oh man.

I am also holding firm on the second part of this thread. I am not depressed, lifeless, or even severely dark. I would flip if I had to surround myself with people like this. Strigocia - you are of course looking at vampirism as your reality...not the 'sleek sexuality' of vampire fiction. I don't believe that one could say whether or not there is something about modern vampires that is sleek and sexy since each one really being nothing more than another human, not all of them would be sleek or sexy.

No, I believe we are talking about the sleek, sexiness of fiction flowing over into vampiric reality. I don't think this whole discussion has been about books. If so, the original poster should tell us. What I have been saying, just coming from myself, is that I have never been influenced by fiction. I don't act this way, though some are of the opinion that I should. See what I am getting at? I want to know who it is that acts like this and why.

I imagine it would firstly be those that look at their 'vampirism' as more of a fetish. Sangs almost as a rule appear to take blood very sexually though really, the idea that you would receive nourishment from the few drops that it's safe to ingest would leave for little else. In addition, I have found that many of the 'vampires' on this site ascribe a very sexual heightened stimulation during a 'feeding'.

However, if you look at your 'vampirism' as simply eating, than you would of course take a very different opinion (though, in all fairness, I like to enjoy what I eat with both presentation and a variety of flavors...and not simply shove food down my throat so there may very well still be the desire to be attracted to your donor if not sexually then at least aesthetically).

Everyone is stating what "vampires" do, but it never what they do. You will note that I have said that my comments were based on my observation of those I have both spoken with on VR and statements I have seen in VR Forums. If you wish to try and remove me from the debate based on the fact that I don't claim to be a vampire, then we can hardly find common ground.

I'd like to close though by saying that admitting to enjoying vampirism wouldn't make it false. You don't need to imply that you get no joy from feeding in order to prove to others that it's real. I eat but I enjoy my food. If you gain no pleasure from eating, then you have decided to treat vampirism with the same lack of passion as those poor poor souls who actually cook up and or eat the bland tasteless fare that serves for food at the Olive Garden.

hmm, even if I do not consider myself a "vampire" in the traditional widely used sense, a bite has always been something very very intimate to me. Something to be used wisely and something that is a part of love..not something you do with just anyone, i mean you are what you eat. idk see it isn't about feeding for me but rather the connection with the person.

Like many others, I only see 'sleek sexuality' in fiction... and that's where it was derived, in my opinion. What an interesting thread..... my personal observation and experience is that a bite is not sexual, but sensual. A form of arousal. As to the point of it being hetro. - Bi. - Homo. - Metro, or any other pre-classified form of sexual orentation. I don't think that the attraction comes from an attraction to death, and corpses. I have a serious fear of death, but I am still very much attracted to vampires. I think that the idea of eternal life is more attractive to people then the death aspect of it. Plus, for those of us who drink blood, we already know what kind of pleasure that brings us, so that is appealing as well.

Upir - I do however feel that what modern people see sexual/sexy about vampires, is not necessarily what was historically sexual about vampires. I think that fiction has had a huge impact in creating the sleek/sexy/sophisticate archtype of vampire imagery...this was aided by everything from the gothic subculture to the use of 'feeding' as a form of erotic interplay between characters without resorting to graphic sex scenes.

As true "vampire" sexuality differs so markedly from any previously documented (until recently), the general Public cannot conceive the depth or extent both sensually and emotionally such "vampiric" sexuality manifests itself.

Suffice it to say at present that such sensuality was so all encompassing, so overwhelming to both "vampire" and "victims" that days and nights were spent in non-stop sexual union such that, thereafter, the female "victims" were left in a state of such emotional/sensual satiation and physical exhaustion as to resemble victims of the dread plague "Consumption" (Tuberculosis)...

... hence the other name by which the Slavic Vampire was best known: Nosferatu (Plague Carrier).

What we percieve as sexy/sensual is typically something unattainable. Being it a playboy bunny, hot Calvin Klein model...ect. The mind sometimes finds the darkest things in life enticing because it knows it is unavailable. We, as people have made the essence of a vampire sexy. Not vampires themselves.

well all I can say is Wow,everyone has a ddifferent veiw on this . I am attracted to them because of the whole intenstity of fear, senuality, sexual the whole thing is very intense in my opinon and we do see it as sexual and senual, yet is it because of the fear or the forbidden life that they live as to how society looks at them. I would think it would be the need to be normal.. The blood to flow or engery to fill a void that is lost. The darkness of the overpowering Vampire to control his or her victims , Is very sexual . In booth sex's the use of lust comes into play here . The eyes being used to pull the victim to them is one of the most amazing things. The eyes are the most powerful . A look will install fear or lust either way it is the control that the Vampire is seeking to be normal to have a little bit of life installed .

Well that's the beauty of it, so many different reasons to be attractive. Not just one or another.

I am not sure the Frued aspect is the way to go on this. The vampire archetype has changed considerably over the years. You don't see so much the typical vampire as an ugly Nosferatu but as a dynamic sexually toned figure that keeps their grace and attractiveness after death.

That is what is stereotyped these days and that I feel is what gets people pumped and wanting to be like them. This is one of those cases that the archetype truly has changed and evolved over the years and become something quite a bit different from the roots it was born with.

Passion is part of the sexuality of any species. Therefor to say a Vampyre is a sexy Being, one would be correct. However, this does not come from any weakness, but rather an inner straingth.
The types of feeding one does is simply and truely just that, a feeding.

With respect to Evangius' comment of the "ugly Nosferatu" and others' comments re: the movies' depictions of the aesthetic qualities of the vampire, am I the only one who finds it both troubling and ironic that even here we choose to value a movie make-up artist's depiction of the vampire/nosferatu far more than the descriptions of same as related in the actual Slavic accounts?

The word "nosferatu" (plague carrier) is Romanian in origin. The word "Upir'" (from whence we get "Vampir") is Russian and Bulgarian. Thus, the Slavic vampire does indeed originate in the Slavic countries of Eastern Europe and Russia. And according to their original accounts (pre-16th Century), the vampire was not "ugly" or "not pretty nice looking", but were instead "handsome" and desirable to young women, with whom they did successfully and quite erotically consort to such extent as to have their lovers become "exhausted," as per numerous Slavic accounts thereof (see the references thereto in my many previous entries).

I think the point evangius is making albeit bluntly and with less tact is that the archetype of the vampire in both fiction and myth has moved in many directions, with some cases being more of a sexual metaphor whereas others were genuine stories or myths of horror and monstrous violence. To return everything to the place of the names origin is to skip out on centuries of change and evolution of both the idea of a vampire and the myths before.

Modern psy-vamps and sangs will tell you that they feel they are the next logical step in that mythology or etymology and they may be, though there is little to support that they would fit with your historical perspective on the origin of the term vampire. Most vampire fiction and most of society as a whole has completely adopted the more supernatural mythology of the undead blood drinking vampire.

Nosferatu was simply a term that I used. If you want to look at some of the first movies on vampires then that would be what it was called and it was an ugly and disgusting creature that hid in the shadows.

That old black and white film was more to the truth of what vampires in history though they weren't always called vampires were more so about.

I believe the so called SEXY attraction of the vampire, stems from being in complete control over their victims. So much so that the victim had no choice but to obey. It is in this that the attraction lies mostly, especially for those who are Submissive in nature. For those who are Dominating in nature find it erotic because of the complete control and power. It really has nothing to do with being dead, or drinking blood, or not being able to create life. It is all based upon sexual desires, which in turn makes the vampire sexually desirable. But that is just my oppinion.

The difference (one of many) between myself and most others here seems to be that, unlike myself, most tend to view the Vampire as founded upon superstitious fictions, thus freeing them to enjoy interpreting, venerating, and/or emulating the vampire image however it pleases them. Much like Star Trek or Star Wars fans re-invent and emulate their favorite characters. And if this is all they desire, so be it.

However, this discussion is about the "sleek sexuality" of the Vampire, and therefore I comment on such as historically documented in the earliest Slavic accounts, apparently to the discomfiture of some here. That such an attitude exists here suprises me to no small extent.

Unlike most, I feel that the historical evidence glaringly points to a substantially factual foundation for the "Vampire," beginning with its first actual recorded incarnation, ironically enough, in the person of a very real orthodox Christian priest (1047 CE).

As he was quite real, then the name by which he was known was real: Father Upir' (Vampire). And if so... then the "Upir'" was obviously real on some level. Thus, what was the original reality of the vampire and what were the later fictions that overtook that reality?

(And that is why studying the earliest accounts is so important to the true vampirologist.)

As the original Slavic accounts from near the same time period as the very real "Father Upir'" described the "vampire" (Nosferatu) as a highly libidinous, "handsome young man," and as such earliest accounts far more resemble the etymology and nature of the historical "Father Upir' of Novgorod, one cannot simply dismiss these accounts while considering either more truthful or more applicable the far-later accounts of the vampire as characterized by almost the exact opposite attributes.

And finally, why did the later accounts differ so drastically, so glaringly in their portrayals of the "vampire" from the earlier ones? Why the plunge from a very real, mortal, religious priest to an immortal, demonic corpse? Why the first accounts of lusty insatiable lovers descending so incongruously to that of ugly, blood-drinking eunuchs?

To any researcher of history, this distinct "evolutionary" sociological pattern finds only a single common precedent: the deliberate propaganda by a leading majority designed to vilify and incite persecution of a minority. This happened to "Christians" during Roman times, to "heretics" during Christan (Catholic) times, to females during the Burning Times, and to Jews, Gypsies, Gays/Lesbians, etc., throughout much of history. Why not to "vampires," as well?

Were vampires nothing more than myth, why does their "evolution" not resemble that of almost all other mythological creatures? Pick a myth, be it a god(dess), a demon(ess), satyrs, nymphs, werewolves, the Frankenstein monster, anything you like. In none of their accounts throughout history do you see such drastic changes in who and what they were reputed to be as you do in the vampire accounts. Though there are changes, yet their characteristics and motivations remain so unchanged as to often pass from culture to culture, language to language with barely any truly discernible difference (e.g., Greek gods/goddesses to Roman gods/goddesses centuries thereafter).

Thus, for me there exists far too much evidence of an actual race of beings whose unique sensuality resulted in their demonification and violent persecution for it to all be mere coincidence or fabulous fabrication. And as this site claims to be the "Ultimate Vampire Resouce", I chose to join and share some tidbits from the years of research I have devoted to the subject.

there have been many many posting with historical referenceing on origins of the vampire and the mythologies surrounding it, quite a large number predate the slavic references that you ahve given upir, not to say those are wrong, simply that they were not alone in their beliefs on such creatures, others also had similar beliefs, we have just come to use the slavic base name because that area had a higher instance and better record keeping practices...

the Nazi symbol didn't use to stand for what it does now but the taint of their usage of it changed it to a modern image which in of itself has a different energy than it did. This is the same with the Vampire archetype.

If I remember correctly in the book that Bram Stoker Dracula, Dracula was an ugly portrayal of a man it wasn't till the movies that they remade his image into the striking gentleman that started to fuel the modern day image of the Vampire.

As for your remarks re: the true sensual nature of their actual "Dark" Gift, as alluded to in the original Slavic accounts, I fully agree: doesn't sound entirely bad to me, either. Nor did it, I'm sure, to the women of the area. And therein lies the root of the male jealousy and insecurity that surely must have resulted from having their women enjoy with such sexual equals that which they, as men without such capacity, could never share with them.

And hence, just as with the "Fallen Angels" of old, the motivations for the vilifications, the persecutions and the violence against all exhibiting such capacity that followed.

I think the idea of the Vampire (as with many other things) has evolved and changed because society has changed. In the last 500 years or so, we have accomplished the mass production of the written word, radio, television and more recently the internet. Due to this, myths, folklore and archetypes are discussed, challenged and adjusted at a greater rate than ever before.

Two things in life fascinate humans beyond all others: death and sex. They are intertwined, inseparable and highly intimate. Looking at serial killers, many of them have very intimate relationships (through their eyes) with their victims. Psychological studies done on war veterans who have killed – and who aren’t psychopathic – have shown that the killing of another is very personal, to the point that they won’t even discuss the details. However, they do express great respect for both the experience and the individual whose life they took.

I really don’t think I need to expand on our fascination with, or the intimacy surrounding, sex.

Vampires and death go hand in hand, whether it’s through their personal avoidance of death, or their innate ability bringing it about for so many. It’s not a huge leap to bring the aspect of sex into the makeup of a creature so closely linked with death. Here you have our two greatest fascinations wrapped into one being. Throw in the ability to defy most physical laws applied to the human body and a lack of moral hindrance where others’ lives are concerned and you have quite the beast.

In one being you have the potential for all the glamour and none of the annoying human factors to deal with. You can see why so many are fascinated by, and want to associate themselves with the vampire archetype.

The idea of Vampire sexuality is, in my mind, an idea that should have been brought up long ago. The fact that it takes some outside interest and a pretentiously written article to bring it into the light makes me worry about the progress this site is making. But aside from my sarcasm, there are many ways to look at this subject. Freud was indeed a master of the psyche in his time, but for as many Freudian critics you can cite, three times as many critics of Freud will rear their heads. The appeal of Vampires depends on the person attracted to them, or the vampires themselves.

True, some people attracted to this culture may be “damaged” or “incomplete”. Many of this can be contributed to mental flaws, as manic depression, schizophrenia or basic depression. That in it self (depression) can be caused by many different factors, which no doubt would have effect on any one. And it’s a medically proven fact that people suffering from said mental incapacities are likely to seek out others like them. Not to follow the cliché “misery loves company” but the simple concept of having someone that understands.

And not everyone in this scene is this way, people that see vampirism and sexuality in a spiritual light have an entirely different mindset on energies and the influence sexual conduct has on them. My last note (I promise). I do not disregard the Freudian analysis. I don’t doubt that it applies to a small percentage of those involved. But it should be noted that it’s a SMALL percentage. At the same time, I think that perhaps there is more of an obsession with life then death. Yes, Vampires are considered the immortal, so dead almost impossible to kill, but they are still dependent on the life force. Blood itself is an embodiment of sexuality. The color red, the warmth, even the texture would be appealing to anyone if it were any substance other then blood. The simplest explanation for the male erection is blood.

I often thought about this very topic (even before the VR). Amazes me that people have suggested that vampire can have children, if they do indeed exist as the undead. I always would wonder how they would have those living bodily fluids to reproduce?

The sexual attraction of the vampire, for me, is the heated hollywood-type passion of the neck biting and love making. I don't think that I would like to actually meet such a ravinous killer. Terrifying. It would be like making love to a shark or a bear or some other killer creature.

The idea of vampires having children used to be just as common a belief as was their very pronounced sexuality. Only with the advent of the false blood-drinking addition to the vampire legend (resulting from ppl digging up corpses they thought might be vampires and finding what appeared to be fresh blood on the corpses' mouths and in their bodies [in fact, these were dark fluids common to the decomposition process]) did this unlearned assumption begin to overshadow the prior belief in their "insatiable sexuality." By Stoker's time, their original sexual characteristic had largely been forgotten and ever since only the false belief in their blood drinking remained.

Prior to this, however, it was commonly believed that, being as sexual as they were, vampires often sired children by their female lovers. In fact, "Vampires of the Slavs" (by Dr. Perkowski) documents the long-held belief that their were in fact whole villages in Eastern Europe populated entirely by children of vampires.

Known as "dhampirs," these children of vampires were often reputed to be able to discern who was and who was not a vampire and were considered useful as vampire hunters. Actually, most of those claiming to be "dhampirs" were, in fact, con-men earning a quick buck pretending to be able to hunt and kill vampires. By such belief many of these charlatans plied for themselves quite a lucrative trade among the highly superstitious Slavs.

Being attracted to vampires my self i have some insight... this may be the cause for my attraction whitch otherwise has been hidden from me... but im not so sure i can rule out the biting and blood fetish possibility just yet... it could be an indirect attraction.

I believe that the sexuality of vampires has to do with the time they were mortally born and the way they appeal to others. Just think of it....In most of the tales, the oldest vampires were born in times when being bisexual or hetrosexual or homosexual didn't matter. Also, say you're a vampire...would anyone even think of approaching you if you wasn't at least somewhat attractive? Mind tricks would only go so far....

On a more serious note, being sexuality attractive is the way vampires survive in the sense of feeding and such. What i'm trying to say is that their sexual beauty is their weapon (besides the fangs) that helps them to subdue their prey. For example, the Venus fly trap emmits a sweet smell to flys to attract them, then chomps down on them to eat. Couldn't that be compared to the way vampires use their beauty to attract their prey before feeding on them, in a matter of speaking?

I also believe that one of the main reason people are attracted to vampires and stuff is because vampires are viewed as mysterious and all.

I completely agree with art. I feel that we find vampires so sexually attractive that we find the biting to be socially acceptable becuase in our minds anything so pretty can't be evil.

I mean take it this way. If a rather unattractive male or female displayed themselves in a sexual manner to an average looking person. In most cases said person would not me attracted.

But if a rather uniquely attractive person did the same thing; the average person would be drawn to them.

Yes this is somewhat a sad way us humans act; it is socially true.

So if vampires were ugly like zombies (Who eat flesh yet as well drink blood) we would not find biting and drinking of others blood sexual in any manner.
