Do you believe the witches almanac is accurate about what types of spells to do on what moon cycles, or is it more personal?
yes to me its personal.i rarely use the moon cycle.and my spells work all the same
I love the almanac! It is a good guide, and is helpful with ideas. You don't have to follow it to the letter. Just use it for ideas if you don't want to do as they say! It's freedom of choice!!!
Once again I settle somewhere in the middle. Perhaps this is me being lazy or trying to avoid having an actual opinion.
I think it's good to have something to keep track of the cycles, it's good to keep yourself informed about the going ons with the moon.
yet at the same time it's good to have your own personal touch to things. If the time feels right, then it is. I guess things are just natural like that ^.^
Do you think people are more sexually active on the full moon?
I am not sure but it is possible that the almanac is right but i think it is more of a personal thing people choose what they want to do
The Moon has a stronger hold on me than most. I use it for various spells depending on what I need. I practice a different form of magick than is not as concerned with Luner cycles. But I am connected to it through other means. So the Moon calls to me a certain way.
As for sexual activity. That is a little more complicated to explain. Lets leave it at Yes. My sex drive is more agressive during the Full and New Moon weeks.
it's a personally thing i think, i mainly uses the full moon for my spells
Since the biggest part of your body is water, the moon will have a very big influence on every thing you do.
I believe the Almanac is pretty accurate. But I also think that spells are very personal. so it kinda depends on the person.

You can work the spells to fit your need. Waxing and Waning can work for all things- you just have to word it right.
Myself- I love the New Moon, but I do no spells at that time.
There is something more magic about the light of silvery moon. So much has been written about it, werewolfs, witches, vampires, love stories etc. The feeling around this is sensual and I suppose that is were the extra sex-drive would come from. Whatcha think?
I think I'm more in tune with magic at the full moon but whatever time is workable. I do not attempt to use the dark moon but that's a personal choice. As for the full moon being sensual I fully agree. But then that's been a popular opinion even in song a few decades back they sang about Le Amore during a full moon.
I belevie the moon does have and effect on the spells and the best time to cast it
I'm still learning spells so I haven't been able to see how the moon affects them. My sexual drive is kicked from 1st gear to 5th gear during the full and new moon. My desire for blood is also increased.
Yes, I do believe that the almanac has accurate spells for specific moon phases. But again every spell is very personal. As your body is intune with the tides, you spells are stronger.
I think that learning the hows and whys of that kind of thing is pretty important before you would even attempt it. i.e., if you don't understand it, you probably aren't ready for such things.
I have pulled off some things 'against' the cycle', and I don't think there's anything inherently bad about it, but they tend to work better when you're working with it. Knowing in advance you'll have to give it that extry 'oomph!' is handy.
the witch's almanac i believe is based strictly off the cycles of the moon as everyone has said. there are indeed certain times of the year that are naturally sympathetic towards different kinds of magic.
i.e. spring harvest moon is a great time to work love spells and pregnancy spells while the samhain moon is a good time to work death magic, necromancy, and the darker side of magic.
i think that it's more of a personal thing, as several have stated already. the only thing i would add to that is that i don't buy the almanac since i go with what feels right and works with my personal magic practice... which admittedly has fallen by the wayside in recent months/ years.
well i dont believe in all this bt its got nothin 2 do with the cycle of the moon when the witches do there spells they just use the moon as a guide of when 2 use it coz when the moon is at the right angel the spell could increase its power 10 fold
I'm glad you brought this up because the moon has a strong effect on me as do strong weather patterns. I'm a young Wicca though and am learning how to use basic magic. I'm still very young; if I only had the knowledge of many of my forefathers :p
Personally I think that because so many feel that the moon has so much influence over our emotions at different times of the month (the full moon for example), why wouldn't there be some truth to the Almanac. As a guide it could be used to appropriatly plan spellwork when you're in the right frame of mind, mentally and emotionally.
But that's just my opinion, I don't practise the craft.
It is both according to personal tastes and about the cycles... Women ebb and floe with the push and pull of the moon... crops are actuated by the cycle of the seasons... and why would the casting of a spell be any different? Certainly a love spell conducted in the spring is not going to have the same presonna in the fall (the spring is aligned with the comming out of hibernation; while the fall is preparing for the going in for the overwinter)... EVERYTHING is aligned to the cycles: life, death, rebirth. it doesent matter who you are or what your personal twist is upon the belief system: it all boils back down to the/a cycle.

for me its a very personal thing as I seem far more in sync with the dark moon than the full. SO my spells seem to work best when I sort of reverse the usual timeing.
So does the idea of a moon holding sway over spell strength mean that the power is no longer emanating from within but affected by things around you? You are no longer a battery of internal power but a channel or conductive for the power around you?
As mentioned above magic is personal and many types of the craft are practiced … yes the moon has a big effect on us as bodies of water and the moon pulls water being the obvious effect and the forces in the universe are very important. I could go deeper on this and might in a different post. Basically yes they all work and if they don’t try something else. As for question 2 on do I feel horny at full moon … yes im extremely turned on by women periods … the hormones or the blood not sure … lots of women have this at full moon .. especially the type I hang with lol
People that I have known to have practiced the craft don't do it depending on the moon, they do it regardless on were the moon is positioned.
I believe one is free to use the moon to help and to cast spells whenever you like. I think the almanac is more of a guide. Regarding the sexual drive - I am all the time on night and day, and that doesnt help if it increases the drive!!! :]
I do not believe it is the Moon itself, as much as it is the moon's level of effect on us when casting the spell, depending on the moon's form (for lack of a better word).
The moons outward pull on the earth is why i would say yes the moon dose affect
your magic and certain spells wont do much good if you dont do them when the viel is thin
The moon's pull has a strong effect on magick.... especially women's magick so i've been told. It's semi-personal, but it's also based on cycle.
The moon affects many things about the planet we live on so maybe if you're practicing earth magic. But I think it depends on how you believe.
It is more of a personal thing, really, as long as the type of spell you cast is in harmony with the natural flow of life, you will be succesful. remember to thank the goddess! :)
I think it is personal and it depends on what type of spell you are doing.
When the moon is in the 7th house, and Jupiter lies where it lies. Then peace will guide the planets and love will fill the air. This would be a good time to cast ye spells
I'm sure the almanac is a good guide, but it seems to me that a person would be more in tune with whatever phase of the moon they were born under, so their spells might have more success at that time. However, I don't practice spellcraft so please forgive me if I am wrong or seem ignorant.
No,I am still in judgement of that,I think it is more personal really,Has anyone looked out their window at night while laying in bed and all you can see in the sky is this beautiful moon,it really is like it's speaking to you, anything you wish to know comes with an intense calm throughout yourself
I believe that the moon does add to the spell and can act as a guide...but I believe that the individual creating the spell has more play into it than anything.
i think that it is very accurate because they have scientists who spend all day researching that fucking shit...
Much like the Farmers Alamnac is a valuable 'guide' to farmers, the Witches Almanac is a valuable 'guide'.
I think that covers my question this forum can be closed now unless anyone has something else to say on the matter.
A contribution to spells and the moon.
In occult tradition ala Agrippa (Henry Cornelius Agrippa's 3 books of occult philosophy), the moon also is represented by several different images are drawn from the celestial virtues of the moon itself.
The moon is divided into 28 mansions, each of which as a different symbol/ representation and different occult virtues which can be used in magic.
It's an interesting study if one is into "moon magic" proper, as it were. The different symbols to represent the celestial virtues of the moon are handy to have as magic correspondances and symbols.
I believe it is. The full moon is the most powerful time of the month for any kind of spellwork...but certain spells work better in other situations.
Lord Fangor - I believe you mean...
"When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars"
heheh nice one Fangor.
the almanac is a good thing but it's all up to the person on the spell that they use
but i am a lunar wiccan so the calandar helps

I would like to say I am one of those that sit's in a study.
But I argue on published work's. In the uk, I have Seen A coven that was so rich in the sense that they would buy right's to certan materials and pull them from the market, As to such I disagree alot with many published article's, that do still reside. Most are 99% Opinion or formulated matter from another book , Whilst you still Obtain 1% of usefull Info.
I have read so many book's with so much inacuracey, That I can count on one hand that are useful, But I was also lucky to learn what I did in my travel's and it is quite hard for me to realize most can't just get in a car and go research diffrent article's to their intrest cause their bound to one location, or can't jump a train or sacrifice their living for greater knowledge cause they so chosse not to. I am one that alway's look's for the answear. But not to the point of obsesshion.
I will tell you this, If you wish to find accurate work's, Visit the Congress building in DC. Many work's reside their, Bring a laptop and scanner as well..You will be their a while.
I think the way you use the power and energy given to you by the Moon, whichever cycle it is at, is completely upto you. Just looking at the moon makes me feel incredible, it charges up my batteries and gives me strength.
I tend to stick with the alamack... unless it has a special meaning to me that it should be on another night.
There's one spell that I perform once a year for a friend of mine... technically it should be done on the waning of the moon, but she and I had a thing about the full moon... so I do it then..
The almanac has tons of information in it! I think it is very important to know the moon phases. The more you know, the better your personal magic.
I think it is more personal. I find that I feel more "powerful" on a new moon or full moon.
not to change the subject because the moon effectts the tides and visa versa, my question is "do you think that spell casting would work better taking the tides into consideration, since the moon seems to affect; how bout the tide cycles? Thanks!
the moon always plays a part in magik, but there is also a lot more that goes into it. you have to consider the planets, sun, stars, and the time of night/day. there is plenty more that goes into it also but those are just to name a few!
Also in reguards to the almanac... It depends on when it was printed and so on. due to the fact the universe is changing everyday and some things fall a little differently than they did before!
Im not particularly into magik, etc, however scientifically, the universe is moving and things are changing by the minute. THEREFORE, to those of you who practice magik, I dont believe the almanac has any bearing on this.
at my job i definitely see an increase in call volume on nights when the moon is full... if it has that big an influence on the behavior of random people how can it not affect certain spells and incantations?
i think it more like a tool, a sugestion something to use a referance
I think it differs from witch to witch and what works for them.
all the little nuances help spells, color, crystals, timing and moon phases
I think it also has to do with what kind of spell you are doing...
i think the moon has a lot of influence on when to cast spells
I've heard that doing Powerful Spells on a Full/New moon works better than doing it without...is this true!?
