Well this is a funny thing. I don't like to split hairs on types of energies or describe vampyres by how they feed. I have always had this bias that I am not what I eat if you want to look at it as eating. All Vampyres are energy feeders. It's just the means by which they get it. All can feed from multiple ways. We are attracted individually to certain types of energy procurement. No one knows why so they try to label this type of vampyre and that type of vampyre as well as we get energy from food. That's called calories. They are energy units but they never suffice and most if they aren't getting the right amount of energy that is proper for them tend to overeat. Sometimes this doesn't show in any body changes for the young because they are so active as opposed to someone my age.
If you are lacking energy, the unconscious will take what you need. The only type of exercise I am aware of that will help that is if you are in tune with your unconscious. I know when learning Huna they teach you to be aware of your other states and maintain harmony but it isn't done through shielding. Shielding is a product of visualization, but if you aren't fully aware of when the unconscious is taking to make sure you don't become tapped out, it will most often take prana from another person. You cannot protect against that and it will not ask of course. I know many, many in the community this happens to when depleted no matter how proficient they are at shielding.
Most techniques taught these days are connected to Wiccan ways of doing it. In the 70s when I took meditation and learned visualization there was no concept of grounding or anything like that. It was another form and method of doing this. We aren't perfect so we will do things perhaps consciously we might feel is unethical but in this manner we sort of sip one might say.
In the club you are probably picking up sexual energy from the mood and are probably an empath. I can do that online in chatrooms. In the heyday of yahoo personally created chats I could and got in a state of what I call drunkeness and it was very apparent. One gets hyped up and energetic, almost giddy. Call it whatever energy you want but energy types don't matter, its the results of the need. Many feed this way and aren't even aware of it. They are still in the party mood when others want to go home and sleep. I have never seen anyone hurt by this, although never done a survey on this topic.
