I have often wondered this and wanted to get all of your thoughts and feedback...

Do you think there is a such thing as being a new vampire? A new vampire being someone who has decided at some point in their life to turn to the "dark" ways of the vampiric lifestyle.

OR

Do you think that vampires are born vampires (true vampires) and that it is not a chosen lifestyle.???

Personally, I think that vampires are born that way as I was... Please lend me your eyes and your thoughts. Thank you! :)

Great question. I think both. True vampires are born that way. They had no choice. Bt, a person who wants to engage in the lifestyle may do so at any time.

But, aren't both the same? If someone embraces the vampire lifestyle, aren't they a vampire? I think both are a choice and mutually exclusive within each other.

it is a good question..agrees with Trivia though, why cant there be both? I know I was born that way, seems my lil demonspawns were born that way also..

But if one truly embraces the vampiric lifestyle, doesnt see a reason for them to be labeled new

I think they are mostly the same, except for one thing, choice.

A “true vampire” had no choice in the matter. A “new vampire” chose that lifestyle. Doesn’t this mean they can also turn away from a vampiric life if they so desire? Or is it something that binds you for life? Educate me? Anyway, a “true vampire” is stuck, no matter what. Not to make stuck sound bad, I am just at a loss for a better word.

True vampires may of been born with it, but a 'new' vampire basically decided to explore themselves and they have unlocked a whole new side of them that they didn't know was there.

However, if a 'new' vampire gets too used to living and taking in energies and or blood, they might find that they develop cravings like a true vampire would. They, in my opinion, become a true vampire, but not from birth- by choice.

This extended existence and all it brings can be addictive, as with anything of this nature, such as magick and even meditation. If one gets used to a certain state and they thoroughly enjoy it, they might find that they need to satisy that state in order to maintain balance.

True vs. new vamps? That depends on your point of view does'nt it. What is a true vampire? I have never heard of one...and real? What you are asking may be answered if you believe Vampyres are real, then all are real and all are true. It is a matter of defination.
I exist, therefore I am....a true sanguine Vampyre. Reborne, into a human body. However, no longer a true human, and addicted to human blood.

I think both can be correct as well. Some people may all of a sudden feel compelled to learn of a vampire's ways and incorporate them into their own lives, while some have been vamps since birth.

Cryingmoon, its probably because some in society rather believe that vampires don't exist so therefore they easily dismiss your claims of being a true vampire. Perhaps they fear their sanity will cave in if they find out that there is more to the world than the black and white they wish to see.

I think of it like religion. Take the Christian belief. Some are born into the religion, while others, whose parents were Pagan or some other religion, chose to follow it. That doesn't make them any less of a Christian.

Man let me be the one to open a thread like this some of the admin and other members would jump all over me. but hey ok here go's A born vampyre or pure blood they are what they are just that, A vampyre! They can never change who or what they are yet we do try!
one who is awakened is now and forever vampyric and that is that! they may wish they can un-do what was done but it can't be done. they will forever need to pull energy or blood it is what they have become in the end the hunger will win!

...To be truly honest, I think that if you're parents aren't vampires, I doubt you can be...I think it's a born trait only.

The others, I think they take on the lifestyle only...Although if were going off the myths, you can be "turned"...

LordOfNoctemAeternus - Why do you think the admin's would be all over you with a thread like this? lol, you can message me that later if you'd like ;)

HellaciousRose- I agree with your post, that your parents probably do have much to do with if you are a vampire or not, but I'm sure it could go both ways. Or, someone could be a vampire and their grandparents were vampires, but not their parents. In other words the vampiric blood skipped generations? If that makes any sense...

dragonspawn- I think you are right about the "evil" ness of being a vampire. Just because one is a vampire, does not mean that they have to turn to the dark side or be evil in ways. ;)

Sorry I could not respond to all of you, I will post more later. :)

New Vampires...hmm, makes me think of hippies. A temporary movement that works for some of the masses at the moment. In a decade they'll be driving mini-vans lol... (maybe that was a bit harsh *sorry*)

Born Vampires...Well, that pretty much says it all! Leopards don't change spots, snakes don't skydive and once a vamp always a vamp. But, hey, I don't believe that all vampires are evil.

WastedLife - it was interesting that you say it is like a religion. I can definitely understand your point of view.

dantearmy666 - I said this (pretty sure) in the beginning of this forum that I was born a vampire. I did not choose this, but the darkness has always been something I have been drawn too ever since I was little. So, I agree with what you said. You of course, this does not mean I must be an evil person, but that I relish in the vampiricness I guess you could say lol.

XxHellKaisersAngelxX - biting and swapping blood... isn't that more of folklore than anything else? I mean of course there is the biting, but swapping blood doesn't necessarily "change" one into being a vampire *shrugs* , just questioning is all.

TheCryingDutchess - hippies, new temporary movement, ... I had to laugh when you said this just because sometimes I believe this to be true with some people. If you are saying that they "pretend" to be this way because it seems like it is a fad right now or something to that extent, I understand where you are coming from. And then where will those "hippies" be when the fad is over? lol. Driving mini vans LOL. Thanks, I needed that.

Great feedback!! :)

True vampire versus new vampire. Well I would have to question what makes someone a "true vampire." Genetics? Awareness from an early age? Both parents being vampires? I am not sure I believe that there is sucha thing as a "true" vampire. In mythology, I cannot recall a baby vampire begin born. Most seemed to be turned by being bitten.

Personally, I believe everyone is born with the ability to become a modern day vampire either sang or psy. It is only a matter of awareness and acceptance of the lifestyle.

Interesting question. I don't believe that people are born "Vampires." I think they may grow into the Vampiric lifestyle. I love the lore of Vampires, but I believe that only psychic vampires exist. If there were true "Lestat" type Vampires, why aren't we all Vampires now??? I'd take the bite! No Vampire has come to change me, or even feed. So, no new ones. True, being the Psychic ones.

I am inclined to agree with indigobizarre and thedame. True vampires, as is termed here, are born as a vampire. Where does this come from and what pre-existing condition must exist for the 'true vampire' to be born?

Some would contend that they are reincarnated as a vampire from lifetime to lifetime and I give a little creedence to that, if only in word and because I happen to have read it somewhere.

However, I think it is much more likely that the person who is vampiric awakened to this condition as a response to something else. It is a choice made either at a very young age or as a metaphysical response of sorts to a trauma or a trial.

Either way, I know that my personal state of vampirism came about as the survival response to a damaged energy body and persists as a condition to this day.

Born vampires I have very little personal proof; other than people's word for it.

I do not think that wether you choose to practice this life style or you were born with it mattters. If one chooses it then I think that that person was always like that, they just hadn't been woke up so to speak. If someone had always found this fascinating and they were practicing it at an early age then they were probably born knowing.

----
You will have to forgive me for answering, but I know what Chartreuse is speaking of, I think. She is refering to the Psychic Vampire Codex and the belief of the psychic vampires in House Kheperu that their condition exists as a soul condition from lifetime to lifetime as the result of an alteration to the spirit/ energy body done in a lifetime thousands of years ago.

This alteration was originally done by an ancient priesthood, per their writing, and eventually included the Councilor class and the Warrior class psychic vampire, each of which forms part of a perfect whole of the cycle of energy as they understand it.

These vampires are reincarnated lifetime after lifetime as psychic vampires and in this day and age seek after those of their own kind from that lifetime so long ago.

You can find more information from www.kheperu.org. The basic premise is that the psychic vampire is the result of energy body damage that if left untreated can last from lifetime to lifetime. It shows up in reincarnations, hence the theory that a psychic vampire may be "born" without the tendency even being present in either parent or in their ancestral line.

I read some articles from the website (house Kheperu) last night and was very intrigued by what I found. So much so, that I bought the book "Psychic Vampire Codex" as well! Hopefully this will help to quench my thirst for the knowledge I so desire of the vampire kind.

However, the House Kheperu website is not based on "truth" persay. In their belief statement (on the home site) it states that all of their articles, etc. are based on theoretical evidence. Although it is interesting to read, I'm still skeptical as to where the truth actually lies.

Thank you Jenova, you did indeed understand what I was referring to.

Vampiress 25: The Psychic Vampire Codex is a good manual for those who think they may be a psychic vampire. I read it to more fully understand myself. It is also a very good energy working manual as the cover states. You will find a lot of information specifically tailored towards those who might be psychic vampires and a lot of it is, in my opinion, biased towards being a member of the Kheprian household. As such, the writing is a little exclusionary, but that does not make it any less of a resource.

I believe that you can't just start doing vampiristic things and call yourself a vampire. I belive vampires are an ancient form of demons, not just some person that claims to like blood and looks a little pale. Also, you can't just be born a vampire, unless you have that disease that makes you loose all of your red blood cells. That disease (can't remeber the name of it right now) was commonly mistaken as vampirism because back then they neeeded to drink blood to get enough red blood cells so they coould survive. Now they have treatments for it and stuff. That, I feel, is the only way you can be born a "vampire'.

As an afterthought, when i was first looking for answers about psychic vampirism, I stumbled upon their forums at a most fortuitous time. I needed answers and they were helpful in describing the theory of psychic vampirism.

As such, they are open to helping those who may be psychic vampires, yet are not one of their number. They see it as part of their duty to ensure that those that are psychic vampires receive the help they need regardless of their affiliation with the house or lack thereof.

In the third stage of it, you loose your red blood cells, pigmentation of the skin dies out leaving you pale, and the calcium in your teeh wears thin making for fang-like teeth. This was the most common reason behind certain outbreaks of panic over vampires in many cities throughout the world. That is, until they gave it a name and discovered that it was a disease.

ChartreuseDreams - I want to thank you again for being so extremely helpful to me and to other people reading this forum! :) You have brought much helpful information to the table.

blackenedXXXrose8293 - "I believe that you can't just start doing vampiristic things and call yourself a vampire.I belive vampires are an ancient form of demons..." I agree with you, in the first sentence. But to call ALL vampires demonic? That may be a bit harsh, but I'm not going to go against any one person's beliefs. If that is what you believe so be it. I do not consider myself to be a demonic being.

WastedLife - Thank you for giving the input on the name of that disease for us. Syphylus. Good information. :)

in my opinion some may get mad... but new or old theres always a higher belief or ways of showing ect ect from one to another whether new or old it counts if you dont play with it. if u like it be true dont let it be a phase for a week. think about it, if there is a true vampire which there is, they dont brag about them selves or make them selves be seen

I also agree with Trivia. If anyone born a certain way embraces a different lifestyle and lives his/her life according to that lifestyle choice, then they ARE part of that lifestyle. For example, vampires, gays, Christians, etc. Any lifestyle really.

kandyvamp thank you for responding to the forum, and not to get too off topic here, but wouldn't it be a little bit too extreme to put gays, christians, and vampires into the same type of category?

If someone is a homosexual, I highly doubt that they just woke up one day and "decided" to be a part of that lifestyle. Most homosexuals are born that way... Christians, well you're not "born" a Christian or any kind of religion. One can be taught a religion when they are born or brought into a religion when they were born, but you're not born Christian.

Getting back to the subject at hand, as far as vampires go, I believe that yes there are both true and new vampires.

lol no worries blueblood! I understand what you mean. And that poses another question. So, if one is considered to be a New vampire, is it because it is new to their current way of life and it is just a lifestyle change,

OR

is one a new vampire because they have came to a realization that they have always been a vampire.. hmmm..

I'm pretty sure both can happen... those who are bitten and those who were born with vampiric parents... I kind of feel sorry for the "true" vampires, as you put it. They don't have a choice, they're born with a need that they probably never wanted... I'm not putting them down, I'm just saying, they better hope they want it.

Yes I do feel an empathy for the "true" vampires... However, if they are born as a vampire, then they do not know any different.. So, I would imagine they would crave what they have been born with. I'm sure that thinking changes as they grow to realize there is more out there and others are different than them.

Actually I think vampires are "chosen", but they don't choose to be vampires. The real "true" vampires do the choosing of those who will become new vampires.

hmm, I think chosen is a good word here. Although there have been many people saying that one can decide to be either or at any time. I believe that a lot of it is that someone IS chosen to be a particular way when they were born. This rational could be taken from many different perspectives. People that are born with their parents being doctors have more likely of a chance of being a doctor rather than a construction worker because of their upbringing, accessibility, and personal experiences because of the family already familiar in that area of study. So it would make sense that vampires who are born vampires would also be the same way.

In my opinion a true vampire is born that way but they may not be awakened until sometime later in life, some not at all. A "new" vampire may simply be one that was just awakened or they could be someone that has chosen the lifestyle. I dont believe that all that chose the lifestyle are true vampires. One that simply choses the lifestyle is less likely to be a psychic vampire, be adversely affected by the sun or get the same benifit from blood.

Although I appreciate everyone's opinions on this subject, I'm still not sure how I feel about people that have just "joined" the lifestyle and consider themselves to be vampyres...

I agree with what wolvie says. Even though I started out this thread asking if people believe in the "new vampire", I myself do not simply because I do not think one can simply just start to be something and then call themselves a vampyre... I think that vampyres are born that way and they either choose to use it or not if they know that they are indeed a vampyre. For those who are blind to their vampyricness, and then find out about it later in life, I think they would be called the real NEW vampyres...

I personally do not believe in the "true" vampire, in the fashion that it is being defined in this thread.

I do not believe that vampires are born or turned- I think a "new" vampire would be a person who involves certain beliefs into their lives within society, rather than caliming that they are supernatural.

I never said that the true vampire was "supernatural"... not sure where you saw that posted here. However, I DID say that the true vampire was an individual who was born with the lack of that certain substance (energy, blood, etc.) and need to feed off of others in order to obtain that.

No, I didn't mean that you said that in particular, I was just suggesting that this certain definition is subjective to that sort of belief.

I personally think that everyone has a relatonship with the world and the environment where we learn to take certain elements in order to grow as people, but this often comes with a lot of preconceptions in itself, and that is my true interpretation of some beliefs into the concept of vampirism- if you follow me?

Echo, I understand what you are saying and I agree that some people would take the vampire to mean only "supernatural and ficticious" beings.

And I also agree that everyone is connected with the world in one way or another as well as being connected with people. However, when one is a vampyre or vampire, they were born with a "lack" of a certain vital source whether that be blood, energy, etc. And that is why I have defined vampyre/ire the way I did.

And I think what you are getting at is that you think that some people say they are vampires because they feel they have some kind of "special" connection to the world which others may not and that you disagree with that.... Let me know if I'm in the same ballpark here. lol

Hmm well vampires are born vampires and have no choice, at least in my belief. All vampirism is the taking of a life source of a human such as their energy or blood. The only way I can think that a "new vampire" would arise is they are taking another life source. its unlikely but possible.

Rayden - you said that if one took another life source... so which one are you speaking of?

Furthermore, you have an interesting take on the thread, you think that "new" vampires meaning that they take from a "new" life source other than what the true vampire would take from. Am I correct on what I am interpreting?

For people who chose to follow vampires i find that the ones i've met, are generally ones who lyk different things to other mortals and they sometimes prefer their own company, unless it is with other mortal-vampires or vampires.

Given what I've heard as a description of the modern living vampire, you must be one from time immemorial. Your 'soul' is what has always been a vampire and you are awakened to your state of being in one life or another.

I know that makes less political correctness for someone who wants to believe they can be one but doesn't think they are one and that to answer maybe would be more nice. That's a bummer...but saying both implies that we can all become one and that goes against the ideas that have been put forth before. If true, then vampirism is more of a cult of mind and less of an incarnation of being.

I believe that it comes down to choice. Some people find the lifestyle to their liking sooner than others, or perhaps feel something missing from their life and try things until they find what is missing. To those who feel that the vampire lifestyle completes them, I would catagorize them as true. Others who only follow the lifestyle because they like it or to try and fit in with a particular crowed for whatever reason would be catagorized as new. In the end however it was a choice for both groups of individuals on whether or not they wanted to follow that path once they realized what it all meant to them

True vampires are born as such. It isn't till later in life, like early teen years, that the awakening takes place and the symptons start to show themself. True vampires are like any other person, we just lack the Chi engery a normal human possesses and therefore have to feed either on other's engery or blood to gain the chi we lack.

"New" vampires are people who either are wannabes that have seen too many Hollywood movies. Or people who just have simular feelings and interests as true vampires and decide to go with the vampiric lifestyle.

True vampires being born as such, have a choice like those who seek the life style to engage in it. IT is all a choice, what we do, how we do it.

So it is irrelevent in that setting seeing as it is a matter of perspective. However, I am a mage, who engages in practices of predatory spiritualism to continue advancing, It seems that anyone who makes the choice to a part of any society no matter how much of a fringe member they may be, they are still part of that society regardless.

I believe in both. But I consider new vampires as practical new souls (I believe in reincarnation, so basically I'm saying souls that have just desided in this life to make the change). I think everyone in this world has different aged souls and I consider the true vamps to be the ancient souls that have been around for centuries and in every life are vampires.

But that's just my opinion XD, but I'm not completely sure if it's a choice or not. I've heard that most vampires awaken when they hit puberty, but I was forcefully awakened against my will when I was a child. I've also heard that it has to be a quality of the soul for there to be any chance of you becoming a vampire at all. There are so many opinions out there >.
