Has anyone ever seen the tv show 'Most Haunted?' If you have, I was wondering, do you think the places they visit are actually haunted or do you think they set it up so stuff happens in order to make a semi-exciting tv show? It just seems odd to me that they manage to get paranormal activity at every site they visit.
in my opinion, it is just like ghost hunters. its a tv show so they have to get ratings :)
Just about everything you see on TV is fake, why should that be any different?
At least the old "Unsolved Mysteries" segments made no effort to hide the fact that everything they had on was a reenactment based on witnesses accounts- as such it was fake, and could be wrong, but you went in knowing that.
This "Reality TV" and travel show fad is getting old fast.
i believe that most of it is set up just to please the audience, especially when they did that 7hr live episode in the US...but i believe that some of it is real
Yes, the live episode is why I started this thread....it just seems too unlikely that they would have the amount of activity that they did for the extended period of time that they did.
Yes I actually saw a bit of it for the first time the other night and was disappointed...I don't normally watch TV especailly shows like that one and it only reminded me of why I choose not too.
I think some of the places are haunted but not all. I think the people they send there just get spooked entirely to easy because they believe it is haunted.
that is the problem with alot of the shows like this..in order to do any good investigation. the investigators themselves have to be the most skeptical people out there... even tho they beleive that these things exist...they have to rule out every other possibility :)
I saw something about this show once they don't get activity at every place they only show you the ones they do get it at also they edit out all the time they spent there when nothing is going on.
Eh, I don't know about shows like that. It's too easy to create footage of paranormal activity anymore.
I watch the show Ghosthunters when I can, I enjoy watching that show. They showed on a couple of episodes where someone messed with the recording of the cameras.
dereck okora was exposed by a tv watch dog for "faking it" as was most haunted.. when it first started out it was true and not very dramatic but factual but it got cult status after dereck became possessed at the drop of a hat and evie screamed karl got affected, stuart was sick or kath ran out screaming as the ratings went through the roof.. so did the money for the programme.. all sed and done tho its very entertaining spesh the live ones
The places they visit are real, but TV is TV and they need to hook the audience some how.
I don't know actually. I've seen the tv show. I don't think they get results evrytime. I have seen episodes where there was nothing. I think it's just they visit places in which people say is haunted. If they're haunted, your going to get physical activity and if not then your not going to get anything. I think the show is just a place to show you weather or not something maybe haunted. If it's real.... That I don't know. I guess it's something you have to experience for yourself before anyone can make an acurate opinion of it.
I have watched it and I dont believe everything on it.
I'm not a fan of "most haunted".
I believe that the occurrences of supernatural phenomenon are manufactured for ratings.
well to me, i always wondered the same thing...but most of the time i think some of the shows are real...expect for the show where the woman creates her own paranormal......that i didn't understand at all....
very good show..but sometimes they shouldn't fuck with the spirits that they do..one time something really bad is going to happen
Did anyone catch a little of the most haunted live they just had on? I beleive it was friday night..
the only reason I watch the show is to laugh because thats all its good for...Im not denying they might have one or two true psychics on there but they dont ever have anything tangible happen..not to mention they stand there and curse and disrespect the spirits..Im sorry but that just offends me..have a little respect for the dead..at least on ghost hunters they look for ways to prove spirit activity instead of just automatically saying that because u get a bad feeling off a place there are spirits there..then again..that is part of sensing them.-feelings and all..but still the main thing that bugs me about most haunted is their blatant disrespect for spirits.
Yes, I've seen the show. I believe places can be haunted. I would love to visit a haunted place and get some first hand experience.
I watch it when I have the time. I agree with the first person to post--that they do sometimes set it up but most of the time they do get activity. But--we will never know--t.v. lies a lot.
I didn't know that they didn't get activity everywhere, that makes sense about the editing too...But I saw the live broadcast Friday night and it made me wonder if they were setting up the whole thing. They had entirely too much going on all the time.
no i never did...probably was spending time with my family..like i normally do....but im sure it must of been maily fake...no one can't catch it all on camera on live...
One can never really know unless one is there to see things for them selfs. I do believe that some places are really haunted. As for the show I have no idea if they are faking it or not.
With the abilities of today's computers, anything can be done with television to make it seem realistic. So video is no longer a viable means of evidence of paranormal acitivity. So, it's hard to tell if something is real or fake.
I've seen it before but I do have to agree with those that said it's all probably staged. Technology can show just about anything these days.
Sorry dear but unfourtunately i find it too fake its obvious. the way the cams are and their "devices"
*sigh*
I think that psychic guy on there is a FREAK! "I'm sorry what what? Yes the body was in what what I didn't get that? Yes yes. I understand. Col Mustard did it with a what what? A candle stick in the courtyard."
What
I havent seen that show but then again I havent seen any shows like that in a long ass while bcause I dont want to beleive in any of the bs that goes on woth shows I just think all those shows are rigged just for ratings and therefore are a waste of my valueable watching tv time.
That show taps or I think its ghost hunters now. They are pretty good. I was impressed instead of going in trying to find ghosts they go in trying to prove there are no ghosts. The only way they will admit there might be something there is after they have tried and tried to recreate the event and see if they can get the same result, such as some kind of apparition on film. Most of their episodes you will be surprised they come out saying there is nothing there at all.
I believe that it is possible to contact spirits, but I'm not too convinced that they are acctually doing it. The seven hour thing in the US was probably to get ratings because they had shout-outs and stuff like that. You'd have to be a pretty good medium to talk to that many Spirits in every "haunted" place you'd go too.
I think they actually make some type of contact. There are many sophisticated machines that they have for recording all types of phenomena. I like to believe it's true! Bet some of the religious leaders feel they have to debunk shows like that! It is an interesting show!
Similar to a show called gost traker I use to watch, where they visited and studied hunted houses or theaters. Similar but its tv.
i dont know if most haunted is real but ghost hunters is i have been to the cresent hotal in ar. it is the next city over from were i live and only 15 min. the whole town is haunted. i saw a shadow of a dead girl who killed her self becuse of her pernts were so mean to her. if any of you get a chance to vist north west arkansa you should relly check it out. down town Eureka Springs look just like that of the french qurter of new orlends
most haunted is pretty dumb but ghost hunters on the other had is only semi convincing to me because of the fact that they usually dont find anything and when they do it usually reminds me of things i have seen or expierienced in the past. I grew up in a very haunted house and am quite the believer
i saw this thing once and it said that 83% of shows on television is fake
sorry about the typo's i ment that i saw this thing and it said that 83% of shows on tv are fake sorry
yes but if you think about it you probably saw that on tv so what is the truth i will agree with you that most reality tv is quite the opposite
but the fact that taps or ghost hunters finds almost nothing and tells people that this is a piece of dust on the lense instead of saying this is a orb like most of the fakes do they only usually find nomanal things like doors closing themselfs or moving cameras and the occasional disembodied shadows
if they are fake they shure arent trying very hard
I think its mostly set up, however you know when it genuine with the real fear the people express lol, we use to have it here in australia and we have some awesome haunted sites here. But you could tell when it was set up and they were 'pretending' to be afraid and when it was genuine I need to change my pants fear.
I supect theres some Hollywood in there, but some of it may be true.
Like a lot of people on here, I think some of it is true, but I also think they make up some things to make the show a bit more exciting. After all, in TV ratings are the name of the game. Not so goos ratings means possibly getting the show cancelled, which means no paycheck.
I love that show. I've taped every episode. I have also wondered though how much of it they fake and how much of it is true. I didn't get to see the long episode in the US though.
I think it's made up, maybe they have read things or researched things before hand to make it more believeable but they just seem to fake for me, its never anything huge happening, theres either a chair moving or some knocking from the middle of nowhere, easily added in sound effects......they aren't gunna fool this one.
i feel it is a great show..but they go places that they shouldn't..not with the crew they have..
thats a good question. its hard to decide whats real and fake with ghost stories. i personally think that those places may be haunted. but with all the lights and cameras and noise, the actual ghosts or readings cant be real. i dont know of any ghost or spirit that will dance around for the camera. they are just as scared as we are soemtimes.
The places might be real, but come on. They've got to create at least most of those scenes. Notice however that when something suddenly happens (rarely) that they actually get scared an run out of the room? I believe that's when there's a real ghost/spirit in the room ;)
Thanks for your guys' responses! Okay, new question: Since most of us agree that much of it is staged, what do you think of the supposed "possesions?" For example, on the 7 hour U.S. live Most Haunted, one of the guys was supposedly possessed and tried throwing another cast member over a balcony. Or, what about the scratches that show up? How do you think they get those?
i have been to some of the places profiled.. and i felt things there as well...
hmmm.... i think possessions occur. they just arent the showy ones you always see. they are truly terrifying, but rare also i think.
the ones on television usually just make me laugh....
I have only seen a couple episodes of Most Haunted, but I have never really been able to get into the show because it doesn't seem real enough to me. I do watch Ghost Hunters, and I would love to go hunting with them anytime. Not just because they are ghost hunters but because they seem to be really nice people who go about trying to disprove hauntings. It usually takes a lot for Jay to say a place is haunted. I wonder if we will ever be able to capture solid proof of ghosts, I mean real solid proof where there could not possibly be any tampering with equipment.
I think it is a load of crap. It is so easy to alter stuff on television. Besides that, all the screaming ruins it all. I like ghost hunters, though. At least they dont fake the stuff they record...which I say that because most of the time they prove that the place is actually not haunted at all.
I don't know. I would say based on instinct that it's staged, but I also know that a lot of groups investigating paranormal activity would probably do an awful lot of visits to places, and we might not see all the places that have no hauntings?
either that, or the places are just SO haunted that there is always activity at those particular locations.
like I said, probably staged.
i know it is not staged for a fact..but they cut out things to make it fit in the time slot..
Some probably are but most things on tv are made up because in the end all they want is rating and people to watch so they have to keep coming up with things
I have watched that show several times and believe they are real. i believe in ghosts and stuff of that nature and some of the buildings known to be haunted are here in buffalo and Niagara falls. and i have been in a few and weird stuff has happened years ago. so i would say yes true all the way.
Well, I believe that things are not staged. Unless it is done by computer. And some things you see, can't be done by computer. They try to re-enact it, but can't. So, the answer to your question is no, I don't believe that these are staged.
OMG what a great show. It sucks when nothing will happen though. It is cool to watch these people go running off when something actually does happen. I don't think it is staged, but then again nothing shocks me anymore.
They will do anything for ratings, just like these illusionist if its on tv dont belive it....
I think its set up to be honest.
Its unlikely that paranormal activitey just happens like all the time the cameras are on.
I do believe the places are haunted...I just don't always think there is activity at the times they are there.
Editing helps with that I'm sure
when the show first started it was great, a little boring on occasion but entertaining, now it is a little far fetched for my liking.
when it first started it seemed to be ok then the longer the show went on it got more theatrical I suppose to keep the viewers, however i do think that the places they go to are haunted, but i think if you go to a haunted place and if something happens it is personal to you.
entertainment for you!
The locations are cool but really think about any expierence you have had? Was it a location as that, mines were not.
Most Haunted...is that the show with the "psychic" who, in every episode, is always yelling at some ghost no one can see to leave everyone alone?
That guy cracks me up! I mean, seriously, what are the odds that they find an evil spirit in EVERY SINGLE LOCATION?? And that yelling that he does, as well as his "sensing presences" that just happen to coincide with the information they read at the beginning of the episodes of what ghosts are believed to be there? I think he makes up half that stuff, if not more!
I have some friends who are studying paranormal...something or other (I forgot the name of the class) in college, and they, as well as many of their classmates agree: The show's a bunch of crap.
i have seen it, some are fake but others are real. the one about the jail is so real.
I haven`t seen it yet I`ll have to check it out..
I m a fan of ghost hunters thanks for the info...
I mean I do believe that some places are haunted but not all..it is a show and they are looking for ratings so i believe alot of it is set up!!
its a good show liked the Philadelphia insane penitentiary show
I look at it this way:
It may be real, it may be staged. But either way it's entertaining and fun to watch late at night with the lights out so I really don't care. :)
Though I have to admit, I really think they do play it up a bit for the cameras. They seem to jump and go into a panic any time they hear so much as a mouse fart in the corner.
who knows for all you know could be both some staged some real.... but as long as it entertains and gets them the money they really dont care and as long as we enhoy it then why not hehe...
I prefer Ghosthunters. I do believe Most Haunted are going to places that are known for being haunted, but Derrick the pyschic kind of puts a fake edge to it all.
This program USED to be very convinvcing.. and I have actually been to 2 of the Most Haunted locations, on a ghost hunt, myself.
I see that over time it has become more and more comercialized and the female presenters charactrer has 'changed' making her seem more like she was pretentious in the first place...
Remember how she used to SHIT herself to the slightest jump.. ?? Well, NOW she actually provokes the spirits by name calling them.. or going alone in to rooms She hasn't changed just by experience, her personality has changed.. And she is very bossy and belittls her husband who is one of the team, and I think that is not nice.
However.. I have had an evenful time at one of the locations in particular . moreso than the MH program had when they went to that location.
for me most of that crap seams fake but its funny to watch
Ghost hunter is so flawed...they set up for hours and wait for a few more than pack up. if they don't see anything they say well...it may be haunted maybe not..paranormal events do not happen on call...!
I've seen a lot of people mentioning Ghost Hunters...Is that on the same station as Most Haunted? Also, why do you think it is or isn't a better show? What gives it the edge over MH?
I dont belive 99% of the things i see on tv, so i think they probably make things up for rateings...
the places are real - i mean really reputed to be haunted, but i have no doubt that they ham it up. one of my friends was in the episode at derby jail. the place definetely has an atmosphere, but how do you put that across on a TV show? unfortunately, the show lost a lot of credibility when their ex-psychic expert was shown up to be a fraud.
the team are serious psychic investigators, but at the end of the day, it is a TV show put out for entertainment value. if it didnt deliver the goods, it wouldnt get aired, and they wouldn't have the income generation they need to continue what they do.
It's getting so that I can't even sit through an episode anymore
I believe they are taking places with substantial evidence of hauntings and embellishing it for the show.
in my opinion i think they may go to some places that they may be haunted and sometimes little things do happen once in a while but they make it much more dramatic i think and im sure they make up a few things as well but there are a few places here by me as of the franklyn castle i live 15 min away & i know forsure things have happen there and ive seen things in the windows but thats only 1 place i add, so you never know id say its possible but for tv they do make things up for show
All I can say is that I think Derek Acorah is delighted that he is making so much money off the simple concept that people will believe anything you tell them if you act confident about what your saying.
Spirits are everywhere. There are only certain areas that we can visualize them and that we are actually open to communication with them. These spirits need to move on and are reaching out. Why is it that psychics know where they are at, because they have a more sensitive 6th sense and can figure out where they are, but I believe that these spirits are everywhere.
some places are some places aren't and i think that sometimes they over exagerate with things infact i think that alot. I know that branagons in manchester is haunted as iv witnessed things happen in there but i do feel that some of the time they are just over exagerating things to make more people watch.
i agree with that i think they have the people scared pryer to going in and what not
WEll yea every site they visit is paranormally active... They do tons of research for each episode. I personally believe they are being fo rillz, but i guess I could see how you would think it was fake...
its a bunch a bull its all fake they do all that for the ratings
I agree with that point derekv666, I think that getting people worked up enough can really change their perceptions of what they think they do or do not see.
Real or not, I find the stories of haunted places most intriguing and will gladly tune in. It is also fun to do some further research, online, after the show.
I like Ghost Hunters alot better, but even with that, I dont see how they can catch the evidence on their personal little hand held video recorders, and not on the main tv cameras that are following them to shoot the show. And how their personal little tape recorders (for the EVPs) can catch the sounds, but the microphones built into the tv cameras for sound can't catch any noise. Hmmm...makes ya wonder.
As for this new MH show..it does not hold my attention at all. I think its a load of BS.
But I will admit, I have faith that some of the places are actually haunted, I just doubt they get it all on tv.
I completely agree with you- I haven't seen ghost hunters, but I agree with the amazing amount of coincidence and plot holes :-)
Funny I am just watching this STUPID show and the one thing my daughter and I were commenting on was......
If we were in fact ghosts we would be pissed off because they keep saying
"ok if your really there make a sound" and then a sound happens...
"ok one more time just so we are sure" and then another sound
"ok well we just want to be sure"
after about 10 times I would be tossing bricks on this idiot womans head! Oh and all the while screetching with each sound she asked for...
I think it's all staged. I don't believe any ghost would be that understanding. I know I would have been pissed off by that point and left to find someone else who was not so stupid!
That is a VERY good point!
Who would of thought that a of these "violent spirits" would all be so communicative, and then get angry for no eason, just as the programme starts to get a bit dull?
How strange...
