do something bad and something bad will happen to you,do something good and something good will happen to you; karma- does it really exist? or is it just some made up thing to make you be good?
Oh I truly believe in this. It is very true I would say as had many instances were it happened.
From experience--I know it exists. I made some mistakes and they caught up with me in the end.
It depends I suppose on what you view Karma AS. My generalized view is that it involves taking responsibility for your own actions. If you do bad things intentionally, you deserve what you get if bad things happen to you. If you generally try to do good things, good things will happen to you. What goes around comes around..I firmly believe that. I'm wording it poorly lol, but as far as whether or not it was "a thing made up" to make people behave...hmm how's that workin out? lol
I don't completely "worship/obsess" everything is karma, but I do believe in it.
If that makes sense, lol.
Karma is what results from this and choices you make good or bad,I firmly trust this form of beliefe.
Yes, karma does exist. Sometimes it takes time for things to catch up to you but they always will. I have been a good person my entire life yet bad things have always found me. That was until a few months ago. Now I'm being overwhelmed for good fortune. I guess karma is trying to make up for lost time.
i in a way live my life around karma.. i don't really say okay i did this for that person now do something for me.. but i try to give to others when i can so i don't get the big kick in the ass
you reap what you sow
there are many different ideas about Karma
i believe your Karma is defined by everything you do and that everyone is responsible for the effects of their actions, not only how it relates to themselves but others as well
i belive it excists, my cousin screwed me over , and now she lost her house
If you do something that you know as "bad" something bad will happen to you.
If you do something you know as "good", something good will happen to you.

I believe in Karma to a point... I've often witnesses little displays of Karma, but I don't think it's a just and balanced effect.
Plenty of people do miserable, nasty things and never see anything equaly as bad happen to them.
Others live good lives and do good things all the time and just can't seem to catch a break themselves.
In the long run, I don't think there is much of a balance between good/evil done and good/evil received - nothing that can be attributed to a notion like Karma.
I believe Karma, or similar, activates through our life web. I think that it is more than just what you did will come back three fold, or ten, but what you did sends a vibration to all aspects of your life (including inner, outer, and the life connections you have with others) and finds the most appropriate strings with which to resonate.
I believe it exists. I'm not sure I believe it is some great cosmic force but I do believe that people who generally do things out of love for their fellow human being (and other beings) feel better about themselves and people see them as better people and tend to treat them better.
I believe in Karma if you do something good then something good will happen to you. I think it depends on wot your won beliefs are to wether you believe it or not.
I am not 100% sure about karma, i mean if something bad happens to me, it does not mean i have done anything bad to deserve it, and what about the people who are really bad and lives a good life they are not affected by karma...
Karma is real. Not just people telling you that to make you be "good". Karma will come around and kick you in the ass, no doubt.

I agree with ToiletDuc.
Aside from the whole good/bad cause/effect thing, there is invariably how you respond to the things that happen in your life. If you look at the bad as a negative, or an opportunity. If you look at the good as something you deserved, or a gift to be appreciated.
In many ways, we do make our own Karma though our thoughts and reactions...
Reward and retributtion is only part of it I think.
The main thing is what is learned from it.
well "karma" really do exist. it is that you get in life back what you do .it is a proven thing and i have seen many people get that.
I believe karma exists, yes. I've seen too many people get hit with karma to not believe in it, even with myself.
i believe karma is reall. i've been hit in the head by it enough to pay attention to it from now one.
I believe that Karma is real, but I am not sure that we really know every thing about it, and there for I don't think that we can truly understand it.
I do believe in it...I know I've done some bad stuff in the past and it has caught up with me eventually...also some people I know who were deliberately hurtful and deceiving to a special friend; these people lost their job and their home..a little retribution there I would think..
I believe it exists, but I also believe the punishment varies on the person.
I believe it exists. My parents believed in it aswell.
naw i dont think so... ive been good and nothing good happens to me :(
I really cannot believe in Karma. There have been too many bad things that have happened to me and my family. Now I am no angel in any regard, but I have tried to be for many years especially when I was younger and it never got better for long enough to really even breath.
as i had said to the other karma post that was made before this one..we are all responsible for our acts and the choices that we make and no it does not mean we have to be good just because there is karma,i know of some individuals who don't believe in it...we do make our own destiny!
This is my pet hate. Last year Oprah showed a book called "The Secret." This is a summary of "The Secret" from the N.Y. Post.
Rhonda Byrne, the Australian producer behind the self-help sensation [The Secret], argues that the law of attraction is the strong est force in life and that through positive thinking you will attract the positive things that you want in life. If your thoughts and actions and all your energy dwell on the negative - problems you're having or frustra tions you're feeling or things you do not like or want - negative things will dominate your life.
The logical conclusion you can reach with such thinking as "The Secret" is that, it is your fault if you are abused as a child, or if you are born in a famine or war-torn country. The blame-the-victim mentality of "The Secret" I also see in Karma - bad things happen to you because of Karma. Well that is just crap.
We have always asked why bad things happen. I tend towards the reasons that God told Job. Job lost everything: his family died, his lost all his money, and he was visited by the worst of diseases. Job was angry at what happened. And God came to him and said that life is sometimes unfair and we can be angry at the injustice, but in the end there is universal cosmic justice working in the worst of tragedies. That is why you feel compassion for the afflicted and angry at injustice and where you find the grace to carry on when you don't think you can carry on.
I believe that not only does it exist, but that it follows us from life to life. If you believe in reincarnation, as I do, I firmly stand by the thought that karma can build up and dump on you all at once. Probably explains a lot of my own life. Heh.
i do beleive in karma
i think that karma is a power from with in, our soul's way maintaining balance with in its self, i think that our soul is absorbing the energies of our actions, as we do good deeds our souls absorb it and they carry a postive charge this charge then attracts the fortune and twists events slightly untill the charge is spent, and balance is maintained
The explanation of karma can differ per tradition. Usually it is believed to be a sum of all that an individual has done, is currently doing and will do. The results or "fruits" of actions are called karma-phala. Karma is not about retribution, vengeance, punishment or reward; karma simply deals with what is. The effects of all deeds actively create past, present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain and joy it brings to others. In religions that incorporate reincarnation, karma extends through one's present life and all past and future lives as well. It is cumulative.
Karma definitely exists. I learned that the hard way. I have done many things that I am far from proud of and each one of then has caught up with of in the end. This thread has made for a great read so I had to add my part.
I do believe in karma..and the old saying..."What comes around goes around..." Seems to be right more times then wrong...so to a degree I believe in karma.
I personally believe in karma. It has to do with maintaining balance in your world and life. It is my belief that karma is given a bad rap. What comes around goes around. Karma is just a way to package it.
It all depends on how u look at it.If u think of it as something to "make you be good", as u put it.It does nothing and prove nothing. You have to look beyond the good and bad thing to a ballance of good and bad energies in the universe as a whole.
Some magicks teach the 3-fold law, while some, as in Chaos magicks, teach to distance your thoughts and passions from the one thing you want.To send energies elsewhere, and in the end what u desire most will come to you.To keep a balance within oneself to insure karma is dispersed evenly ,good and bad.
So in the end, one doesn't always have to be good*grins*
I believe Karma is everything you do . Good or bad it will always come back to you . So choose what you do very carefully.
I dont beleive in karma but I do beleive in what goes around come around and also in the saying: you will reap what you plant. If you plant lemon you wont harvest tomato
some people see kama one sided
"do somthing bad and somthing bad will happen, do somthing good somthing good will happen" yet some people only see the bad side of karma. but never see the good because if somthing good happens we dont see it mainly because somtimes we dont want to. but if people/karma do somthing good it will seem like it hasnt done anything (is what i am trying to say)
i dont belivein karma b/c i do some thng good and something bad happens to me i do something bad and something good happens to me so i just choose not to do anythin lolz
I believe in Karma, what goes around comes around but I also believe that life thing can go wrong and have nothing to do with karma , it is just a learning curve.
I dont belive in karma but i do belive in paybacks a bitch
I don't know..... I know some people who are just rotten to the core and they do crappy stuff to people all the time.. and steal..... They have things land in their lap all the time... It really upsets me... I am honest and I don't steal.. I try to be a good person and I don't get half the good fortune they do.... So I don't believe it...
Myself I don't believe Karma is real, It all depends on your actions and things you do in your life that will make things different. Certain things do happen I will admit that but anything can be good or bad depending on how you look at it.
I certainly believe in the "Threefold Rule." I really think if you do something bad, it will return to you times three. Good deeds are also said to come back threefold to the good-doer.
I am a firm believer in karma, everything eventually catches up to someone.
"the Secret" teaches the Law of attraction. Not the Law of Karma. If anyone tries to figure out the Law of Causation, they will be receiving their share of headaches. The why of things happening is very complex and interwoven like a web. Some people do live in misery by choice. This is hard for many, if not all, to fully understand. For example: if one was filthy rich and never knew what the poor or a hard life was like, they may want to experience this in a coming lifetime. Or, if a strong soul wishes to teach their parents a life lesson of caring, they may be born with a disability or be mis-formed. So unless you know all there was and is to a circumstance. Do not make judgments. The list is endless - literally. Karma is given not as punishment or reward. You created a certain instance and you will experience that instance. Nothing more, or less. I am aware of the three-fold law. Some say it is now a thousand-fold. This does not mean that you get three or thousand times back, it only feels that way. It feels like a win fall or sucks big time. But it is what you created. There are many Universal Laws. "The Secret" is not meant to be taught as causation but attraction.
We agree on Karma. You say, "Karma is not given as punishment or reward." In that case, I would call Karma luck or fate, but if you want to call it Karma, then what's in a name?
Luck or Fate is haphazard. Karma is what we make for ourselves. They are not the same.
It is in fact a common observation that there are runs of good and bad luck, and that some people are consistently luckier than others. C.G. Jung called this 'synchronicity' and suggested that there is a relationship between a man's psychological state and the events which are somehow attracted to him. I think it is bunk.
I hold the suspicion that things occur largely by accident - that there is no pattern in the world around us and no design in our own lives. That it is pointless to divine the factors which condition our situation of being lucky or unlucky. It is not a punishment, it is not synchronicity, it is not some new age universal law of attraction. For the only time in my life I am in agreement with Toiletduc in that how you deal with your runs of luck is what matters.
Paritally agree with Toiletduc. I lack his magnificent, self-possessed arrogance. The lofty, lunatic serenity, of a man who knows his divine 'election' to moderator makes him right.
Karmas a b.... I believe in it.... Plenty of things in the past has proven this true time and time again, not just to me however.
I believe in Karma- I believe if we put bad things on to others, it will come back on to us.
"we reap what we sew"
"what goes around, comes around"
We are not to blame for our childhood afflictions, but as adults, we are responsible for our actions.
I have seen Karma at work- and Justly, so.
Does anybody see karma as an opportunity for personal growth ?
I do believe in Karma. 'What comes around, goes around.' It's something that people really should listen to. There are so many things I want to say that are on my mind..But I can't focus on my thoughts on one individual thing.
If you do something good, something good will, in turn, happen to you. If your endeavor is negative, expect negative situations to find yourself stuck in.
as with everything, its all about perception. some believe in karma, some dont. i think personally, karma does exist. whether u call it karma or not. it seems to always take longer for the good karma to come ur way rather than when you do something bad. but what goes around will come back around one day. and in my experiences, it is true.
a friend of mine screwed me out of a lot of money. i wanted to slash her tires. I was tired of waiting for good to happen to me. i wanted to take it under my own control. but i didnt. my best friend told me "vengance is mine sayeth the lord" for some reason i just let it go. three days later, someone slashed her tires. IT WASNT ME :o)
out of everyone here who says they learned to believe karma first hand... can any of you say that it was good?
I believe in it too because when it comes back and gets to it is usually I thinks three times worse and i got me good yesterday.
I really do believe in karma. I believe it is all about the energy you put out in the world what you give is what you get. You attract the energy you put out if you are negative you will attract more negative people and negative actions.
I'm not sure if I believe in it or not. I mean ur always gonna have bad things and good things no matter what u do. Therefore who knows.
I believe that karma is very real. I know it is a Bible quote, but you really do reap what you sow...
Yes i believe Karma is very real! I have seen time and time again people reap wat they sow if you do something bad to someone its gonna come back to you worse. So be careful of the things u do if u dont want them done to you is how i look at it
I think I must take a more eastern view of karma than the popular concept that the Universe will *whap* you when you do something wrong. I think of karma as more of lessons that are to be learned over lifetime(s). It may be that we screwed up and have to learn how to bring things back intop balance. Or it may be that we simply have to learn something, like humility or generosity...things like that. Or even possibly things like having to learn how to listen to what your own inner voice is telling you, or to take a greater injterest in spiritual matters. Karma is related to purpose...not punishment.
Karma is not just 'something to make you be good' .
Karma teaches you that all things have a consiquence. No matter what you do, good or bad, it all comes back. It is a matter of what you are willing to do, and in the end pay for to get what you want.
I do believe in Karma. I've seen it come around on people in my life. Many a time have I walked away from someone who wronged me, having faith that Karma would take care of them for me. It never fails. It always comes around. Just be of the mindset that it isn't always on the time table that you would want it to be.
what goes around, comes around, or if you spit in the air it will come back in your face, thats what karma is for me
Karma is a nice notion but I don't think it is any kind of absolute. Every persons definition of good/evil varies. I think few people could honestly call themselves one or the other. Most of us live somewhere in the middle. I don't ever make choices based on fear of cosmic reprecussions or hope of some kind of gain. Nature doesn't make a distinction between good nor bad but it does keep a sort of balance. I suppose that is what I strive for.... balance.
I don't believe in karma. It's a nice fairy tale told to entice us to be good. I've seen too many bad things happen to good people and too many good things happen to bad people. For example, what type of karma was Anne Frank answering for? Or why was Jack the ripper rewarded with a long happy life uncaptured. When karma seems to have come back, it's purely coincidence. I also agree with Sacred in that people look for explanations and go looking for examples of good and bad karma to justify decisions that they have made or bad things that have happened to them.
I do believe in karma in some ways, because most of the time, if you do something bad you bring bad things to you, that same with doing good. It's like, what you think and feel draw things that are along the same brain waves to you. I watched a whole documentary on it, it was really cool!
I base my whole path that I walk on kharma. I totally believe that which you do has direct causative effect and makes ripples all around you effecting many things. I try to keep my kharma clean and healing to all, nature and humanity alike.
I believe in the karma pool, so to speak.
The energy we generate and put out is the same as the energy we attract. If you live in a positive light, positive energy will surround you in various aspects of your life. The same can be said about negative energy. IMHO.
i am a true believer in karma and have experianced it a few times ..
no need for revenge in my life. karma does all the work for me
I think Emeleth puts it well....
Purpose not reward/punishment.
Yes it exists and that I can attest to from prior things that have happened not only to me but others that have known me. They have done me wrong and it came back to bite them on the ass. When I got stabbed many years ago I changed the way that I treat people because I dont need it coming back to bite me like it did then.
I definately believe in Karma. There has to be a balance somewhere.
I am a definite believer in karma. You get what you give and everything comes back to you, whether you like it or not.
Karma is what keeps me in check, because I certainly don't want to do anything that will come back to bite me in the ass later. Karma really is a bitch. Don't mess with her.
whole heartedly believe in karma....i've seen it happen to many times not to believe
I also definitely believe in a "what comes around goes around" sort of concept, although technical me has to get her knickers in a twist because that's not exactly what Karma is by Hindu definition (I mean that humorously).
I say it so technically because the actual concept of Karma doesn't deal with negative/positive/neutral in the explicit sense; Karma simply deals with what is (some Hindu traditions take this as all the actions a person has done, is doing, and will do).
To get even more technical, what many people think of as Karma is actually "Karma-phala", which is literally interpreted as the result of an action.
ANYWAY - my thoughts on Karma are basically that 'good' things happen to people who manifest 'goodness' in their lives, and that 'bad' things happen to people who manifest 'badness' in their lives. That isn't to say that things which appear 'bad' will befall good people and vice-versa, it's merely a generalization. Such discussions start integrating human perspective; for example, the loss of a lover may seem bad at first, but then leads to the discovery of a lifetime mate... which then goes a bit beyond what the concept of Karma is at it's core.
The scientist in me also considers something as Newton's Laws of Motion when considering Karma as a concept. Some might not know them as such, but phrases such as "for each action there is an equal and opposite reaction" are simply a statement of Newton's 3rd Law.
Argh, I'm getting ahead of myself! To summarize: when it comes down to it, I do believe in "Karma" as defined by many of the posters in this thread.
Personally I think it is very real.... I believe in the 3 fold theory.... I have had it happen to me that's why..... I don't think it's there to straighten a person out, it is just there.....
It doesn't matter how long it takes for Karma to come around, could be 1 year or 10
I totally believe in Karma. It's kinda like the golden rule.
I believe in karma. People can wish bad karma on people. My evil troll neighbor hated my dogs, then suddenly they all started getting these mysterious illnesses and dying. Creepy or my imagination, hard to tell.
Where does the x 3 come from?
Is it 3 times over or 3 times as bad.. and how can 3 times as bad be measured?
i dont think their is a line for coicidence and karma, u try to blame ur harmful actions to harmful things upon when truth is, u get lucky, u get coicidences and u live life, jus cause u did something bad doesnt mean its automatically gonna happen, it jus happens even if u didnt do it, and when u do good, dont expect good things to always happen for u jus cause u did something nice, cause even bad things happen when u do good
Your Karma is determined by what you do in life. Good actions create good karma. Bad ones create bad.
I think that Kharma does influence Creation greatly. It is how adults learn from their mistakes. Kind of the Universe's way of spanking/grounding us or rewarding us. I think a lot of it has to do wih intention to. What was intended by the action made is the real action. If you chose not to steal something for fear of being caught; as opposed to knowing that it is wrong, it is as good as stealing that thing. Kharma can being enhanced upto ten fold by intent, action, and desire. From my experience it is usually three times more than the deed done. Good or bad it doesn't matter.
