Dracula was quoted as saying, 'Ah, the children of the night, hat beautiful music they make!' Which leads one to believe He and Wolves in general were on friendly terms. Why then the emnity between Vampire and werewolf in the movie, 'Underworld'? Is it because the Undead and the Lycanthropes compete for human prey? What do you think?
There is only one explanation, since that storyline had never been done before (if so, it wasn't widely known) and it would be a cash cow. Hollywood thinks in terms of money, not facts and reality.
Well even though the story in the Underworld movies was made up for the series....if you watch them both closely...the firsts were a Lycan and a Vampire...brothers cursed and seperated by the Vampire famlies.Watch part 2 again...they explain the history of the battle between the two.
Creating camps werewolves fans versus vampire fans and watch the Pale Skin and Fur Fly.
I think Underworld was supposed to be like a Romeo, and Juliet for Vampires and Lycans. The original title was something like that.
I forgot to mention in the above post, but the lycan's in that movie, could change at anytime during day or night.
Ehh ... some of one group killed some from the different causing war to rise up, ot something.
Here's the whole story behind it, and it will explain everything. Werewolves were once the daylight guardians (slaves) of the Vampires. Lucian had sex with Sonja, Sonja was Viktor daughter. Viktor condemn her to death because he feared a blending of the species, (also he want to sonja to marry the son of Marcus), and Lucian never forgave him for killing Sonja.
There are also a lot of misconceptions here, the second didn't explain anything, except why and how they were created.
In addition, to all of this Underworld 3 is coming out in 2009, which will explain a ton more about this subject.
Maybe they envisioned it to be that way and chose to give an alternet for the public to view. It sure puts a twist on things.
Um... First of whose they? The writers, well it was a book before the movie, and the original writer, is a co-story writer along with the director and another guy.
Hmmm. I personally don't believe when he said that about children of the night he truly refered to wolfs but those of nocturnal creatures. However I could be wrong.
As for the underworld portion the movie was lame and boring I wasted my cash on it
the cgi was crappy the story line could have been much better
wolfs versus bats hmm yeah a concept that could have worked better if they would have used maybe white wolf genre to things not the powers but more the story line
It was a storyline that they thought would make money. Nothing more, nothing less.
Well assuming that there is an actual rivalry between the two (which I personally think there isn't), I would say it was spawned from competition over "food".
If you had read my other posts, you would learn quickly that most of you're answers, are completely wrong. I know the story back and front.
well in underworld the werewolf hated the vampires because they used to be the slave to the vamps and they killed the leaders soon-to-be wife so they start a war
No, Sonja wasn't supposed to be their leader, she was supposed to be another Marcus's son's bride. Except, she married Lucian. I'm wondering if any of you have actually listen to the movie's script instead of just looking at how hot Selene/ Kate Beckinsale looks, and how good of a fighter she is.
then even with the script rosho it would be about revenge
since she chose lucian over the other the other was jealous so forth yada revenge
Whaaaa... numba three.... ack! Of Underworld......Why wasnt I informed.... hmmmm kill the underling in charge... lol. Now to the question. Nice quote BTW.... one answer Hollywood sells. Jus be glad they did not include a mummy... not giving the idea mind you. Love the Werewolf... Blood and Chocolate.... Briliant! I believe the quote is more to the understanding between to predators to bring more blind terror to their prey... Thank you.
The quote is more reflective to other Vampires. I didn't think Dracula knew much about Lycans? Doesn't know if he's wrong or he's right.
I believe this was created by 'hollywood' and that there is no real feeling of hatred between vampires and werewolves. That may be there is a competition in regards to prey. But there are many references where Vampires ran with wolves.
I believe all Dracula was saying in that first movie with Bela Lugosi as the actor, was listen to the wolves howl - their howls are music to my ears.
Alright, back on subject...The whole thing with the phrase "Children of the night" refered to Dracula's daughters, or the mistresses, the three woman clothed in white.
As Dracula could morph into a bat, fog, and a wolf, so could his ladies. Thus he called them, the children of the night.
Not to put a damper on the whole "Underworld" aspect of the thread, but the Lycan where the vampires pets if anything, not their children. Which is why the fictional war broke out in the first place...The enslaved tired of being slaves.
Sony Pictures just ripped off White Wolf Studio's work. Simple as that.
In a similar vein, Freddy and Jason didn't join hands and skip off into the sunset either... conflict buts butts in the seats. lol
There's no competition between werewolves and vampires for prey. Werewolves are satisfied with bunnies. Rosho is right, it's Capulet vs Montague with a fangy twist. plus Kate Beckinsale is hot and has good moves. I've never seen any of them all the way through, and I know that much.
Servants yes, but since when did a vampire need protection...From whom or from what?
Good question as always Baolo. I just think it is a ploy as previously stated to make money for the movie is all.
Dracula is a work of fiction. Underworld is a work of fiction. There's no need for a reason to use one's imagination a create a new story line for the big screen.
Well said Tego, it's a fun subject to discuss but it doesn't require a whole lot of brain power to work out it's what's known as artistic license.
just the best idea they could come up with for the movie i would guess
There are many reasons why i think the lycans and vamps dont get along. As far as 'Underworld" the vampire master victor doomed his own daughter to death because her lover was a lycan.
The werewolf the apoclypse version makes more sense. In WtA werewolves are part of nature and respect in t the utmost level. They look at vampires being undead as going agaisnt nature and all it stands for. So they look at vamps as the enemy.
I feel it is just a new twist onHollywood Writers to make a new movie and different one .
I'm actually watching this movie right now. I don't have any qualms with Lycans as a vampire, so I believe this is all a movie stunt.
Rev. Ravyn
I think it's purely a holywood thing to make money like others have said. If you believe everything you see in movies to be true you would have a pretty messed up life. I don't think there is any truth behind that movie and it's purely entertainment. I have yet to find a myth or anything that states the same thing as that movie... although I jsut got a book on the myths and legends of werewolves... after I read it I will know more on this subject.
rosho sorry to ask cause i dont remember seeing any of your post but sence i missed them can you put your story here.. id like to read about it.. thanks ..
the young lady who spoke of Lugosi's character referring to wolf howls as music of the night, was oh-so right.
..
as to Ynderworld.
if Hollywood will play with the legends of Kng Arthur and they did.. just imagine for a second what they'll do with Vampires and then think 'Undersworld.'
Pure glossy schlock.. an I love it.
Here's the whole story behind it, and it will explain everything. Werewolves were once the daylight guardians (slaves) of the Vampires. Lucian (A werewolf) had sex/married with Sonja (A princess of vampires), Sonja was Viktor daughter. Viktor condemn her to death because he feared a blending of the species, (also he want to Sonja to marry the son of Marcus), and Lucian never forgave him for killing Sonja.
All Dracula was doing in the movie was commenting on the howling of the wolves and how nice the howling sounded... that's all.
In olden times we lived together and we friendly..but in the world as it changed so did our relationship with the likens. and now we just stay away from each other. it had nothing to do with food.
I really can't answer why Vampires and Lycan do not get along.Personally i think it was so long ago neither remember. It is stupid as I know some really awsome Lycan, and we have no problems they feel the same.
KA
Okay, I am going to point out if you actually watched Underworld, they tell the story in the first movie that the wolves were the guardians in the daytime of the vampires. and that the war between them broke out due to the fact that the main wolf, Lucien, had fallen in love with Victor's daughter and impregnated her. Victor destroyed his own daughter with sunlight and chained Lucien to make him watch her demise.
Every movie or story has to have its OWN theory or they would all be the same..Like Dracula 2000 for instance..Dracula was actually Judas Iscariot in the movie, the man who betrayed Jesus. As punishment, God made him a vampire.
It is hollywood. Kinda cool story. But i personally think the werewolfs would kick the vampires pretty easy if it was real:)
ya I agree with you pantervamp... vamps are strong but from what I've read lycans are stronger.
That IS one of the reasons I dislike that movie.. is because I just do not see the lycans being strong armed into slavery. It just reeks of hollywood.
well think about yea it was a love story kinda style and also yes the vamps would enslave the lycons...because they are stronger so great slave labor...and are fewer in number......underworld was awesome but the premise of it ehhh could be better and longer ..like lord of the rings long and that might fix it
.. To me it was a love story ... bad girl loving the wrong guy... In any event... I think it made us thing of hybrids and the possibility of them...
Because the movie Underworld is fictional and it made a good storyline.
Im still wondering how long this thread will go. It seems the question was answered by most.
It was a holly wood scene movie where it got many attention by saying
vampires versus werewolves
As with all thing two different races cannot get along. One always tend to think they are more powerful and deserve the right to rule. When there are two powerful races they fight to prove who is better. It been the same way since the dawn of time. Wether your man or creature we all fight for domination.
Thank you QueenMorbid, someone's actually watched this movie.
queenmorbid -
I'm betting many people have indeed watched it. But none-to-many are that observant.
Somewhere along the line, the Alfa males from both sides got into it, and have been carrying the grudge ever since.
I have seen both movies so many times. It is one of my favorite story lines, and i catch something i missed each time i watch them. I own both movies, by the way. I can almost quote them from beginning to end.
Maybe, like the story tells, they had a disagreement on the combining of the species.
No, no no... It was only Victor who actually showed he had that problem.
I liked the whole premise of the movie . The thought of the two sons of the first immortal fighting each other was a very good one
Both of the Underworld films were awesome. I loved the story and found it interesting. It was the first time I had ever seen that plot before. In older movies with Dracula they make it seem as though terms between wolves and vampires were friendly. In most dracula films he can even turn himself into a wolf. So I think Underworld was done to make money and there isn't really anything behind it. Hollywood made two great films off the plot though.
in myth and theory, the two camps seek the same prey and fight over territory. it is Darwanisim at it's finest, two blood thirsty predetory races, clawing their way to the top of the evolutionary heap.
Truly a twist on hollywoods myths. lycans and vampyres at war. Even in Van helsing we see this occur for different reasons. And as my belief that these two would not battle for power yet merge into apowerhouse of control over all. And as for the dracula saying. i do believe he was talking about the wolves singing bringing music and joy to his ears.
Totally just a cash cow, if it would have just been about vampires hunting for prey, then it would be just like every other vampire movie.
Plus in the movies they weren't enemies till the Lycans rebelled from slavery. So I guess thats the reason behind the movie.
They might compete, but I also think it could be a give and take thing.
IM still in belief with werewolves believing vampires to be against nature. The idea of werewolves being one with nature and hating everything that goes against it (including vampires) comes from a tabletop game called Werewolf the Apocolypse. It makes more sense that 'hollywood said it'. I mean Vampires are dead, but alive. Nature says once your dead...your dead pretty much. Since vampires choose to ignore this rule, werewolves basically say, 'ok then bud, imma fuck you up.'
The movie explains why they fight each other. it was more of a personal war between the two leaders. Though everywhere you go there are different takes on all vampire legends. some cases they have reflections...some cases they don't. I suppose it all falls down to belief.
I believe it was a good idea for a book :-)
Rosho - This is a place for people to share their opinions on certain subjects.
Just because they don't agree with your "facts" you have posted, doesn't mean they are wrong :-)
There is often the using of this pairing being enemies. I am not certain why people would assume such things to be, perhaps just the ledgens pinned against eachother make for a good story as other have said. Eturnal enemies, rivals, and so on.
Wierd. My post is invisible. That's sucks.
Try it again...I think the "children of the night" quote was for added creepiness in the story. Having someone like Bella Lugosi as Dracula say that after wolves howl in the distance is just cool. I don't there is any hidden underlying meaning for it.
One aspect of it that has not been mentioned that started Victor's dislike of the werewolves was that the first werewolf was like a rabid dog attacking everything that moved completely uncontrollable. The farther down the blood line away from the original the more human and controllable the werewolves became. Victor wanted to stop the spread of the 2nd generation werewolves (those closest to the original) so he imprisoned the 1st werewolf. When victor found out that his daughter had been impregnated by a werewolf he was horrified and had her destroyed making the offending werewolf watch intending on killing him next but he escaped and thus began the war. There have been other movies where vampires and werewolves have fought even in the classic horror of the 50's. It is not so much competing for prey as the fact that classic werewolves are pure animal when transformed and thus tend to eat the first thing they see human and vampire alike. A werewolf in the area can bring unwanted attention to the vampire by the amount of people hunting it. The classic vampire like Dracula is very civilized and therefore doesn't like the purely predatory animal nature of the werewolf. A normal wolf while a predator is not a predator 100% of the time there is also a social side to the wolf within the pack and in some cases even with man. The classic werewolf has little or no control over transformation and once transformed must kill. The classic werewolf is actually more of an abomination than a vampire because all it does is kill. As Hollywood does with anything anymore though it has romanticized even the werewolf.
In "Underworld", it is a basic story of prejudice. Victor (Master Vampire) is offended when his daughter becomes pregnant with the baby of a werewolf.
Victor believes that the vampire race must be kept pure.
EIther way, personal issues, or just plain predudice, i think we can all agree that in VR, there are those whoe live vampire lifestyles and those who call themselves vampires. Then we have those who live the werewolf lifestyle and honor nature and all that jazz. But never have i seen anyone be put down by either side on account of supernatural preferences.

hollywood is so overrated b/c they dont know what is reality and what is not. end of story
but how many movies are actually accurate in the history sense?
Honestly...I have wondered about that myself. I mean...it seems like they would get a long but I guess it's because of competition. Or that the vamps are afraid of exposal.
no, there is no compotition between them.
at least not in feeding.
its just a story
Well I believe that maybe they used to be then one of the lycans messed up and double crossed the Vampires and caused a ripple effect or that vampire was all powerful.
If thats the case then why is the hate spread through all covens of vampires instead of just the coven of the double crossed? Remember in Underworld, it was only one house. There are more vampires in the world than one house of vamps.
Dracula loves all creatures of the night. Normal wolves are night creatures. As for the lycan and vampire war thing, there are many stories, myth and whatever about fighting between the races. But not all lycans hate vampires and visa versa.
that eternal fight is just mere fiction... creatures of the night are together and work together peacefully...
some of my friends have werewolves traits and we have a very good relationship... all of us know that we have to keep ourselves safe...
They were both really good movies but I think we can all agree that they are just that movies..
Because it's fiction...
because if I want to write a book or a screen play that says "all sheep have three cocks and piss backwards"..I can..because it's fiction.
Debating the essence of sheep ween...or what a fake vamp was thinking...they both have the same outcome..
more huge discussions of nothing.
we the vampire tend to vew us as the brains and the lycans as the brawn ie some of us tend to think of them as less intelagent then us ergo creating a rif
Iam not exactly sure why the movie was done the way it was maybe because the vampires thought that they would make betterrulers then the warewolves would
There are 2 train of thoughts here that I kind of enjoy, the romeo & juliet aspect, and that both "species" compete for the human race as a food source. Both of which could be viable IF either "race" where real.
well we are real so i can see why you say what you have said make no mistake we are very real
