Many cultures all over the world believe in some kind of Devil or one being which is viewed as the source of all evil. Many of them have things in common such as residing in a realm of fire and torture where sinners go when they die either for eternity or until they are redeemed by a force of pure good. New versions of this evil being have been created for television series and movies as well. Some come in human form and some are alien in origin. Which do you find the most interesting?
Mine is a tie between
John Glover as the Devil in Brimstone

and
David Palffy as Sokar in Stargate SG1.

Personally, I prefer the sexy devil because it is detached from torture, evil, and grossness that is typically associated with demons and whatnot...
Why bother posting if you're not going to answer the question? Oh... favor. Duh! :/
There is hardly anything to discuss here. "Which do you find more interesting" belongs more as a Poll in my opinion. There is also hardly anything paranormal here.
btw, you earn hardly any favor by posting too. =)
Oh and I disagree . We shouldn't turn anything into something it isn't. I think it is better for the generations to come to know as much truth about everything as possible.
Our government sugar coating everything is enough..don't make people follow in their tracks aswell.

Everything we know today is ultimatly speculations..or most of what we know for sure. Are you suggesting to alter reality itself, just because we don't know for a fact most of the things we think we know?
Your reasoning is circular and you are making the point I just made. Thanks a bunch! Love ya!
All I said is that most of what we "know" are simply guesses. Then I asked if you were going to alter reality to the way you like it (with pretty pink ponies or something) just because you can..and without you denying it, I will assume your answer is yes.
I haven't stated any of my "reasoning" yet. Your reasoning however, is what should put YOU into an insane asylum.
Listen Vampirika don't get mister grouchy beary bear with me. If you don't have any reasoning, why are you posting? What you're saying doesn't even make sense. I'm not altering reality just not cementing speculation into place since it cannot be proven.
Krab..my username is Krab. I have a feeling that you didn't post my previous username on accident though, and that's a violation against my privacy and the VR TOS.
That's firstly...
Secondly, I don't need reasoning to post. All I can have is an opinion, and that's enough for me to make a complete fool out of you.
Are you gonna turn God into a pineapple just because you can? It seems like it. Get your head out of the clouds and start believing in what helps you live everyday, you arrogant little brat.
Flaming is inappropriate on VR in all circumstances. What the hell is this argument about anyway? Resolve it in private people.
Who's flaming here? I see no flaming. Just a little disagreement. It's part of everyday life.
"you arrogant little brat" is flaming. That was specifically directed at you. Don't pull me into your bullshit or you will wish you hadn't.
That was hardly a flame. It was a little more than a friendly argument, but if it wasn't a flame. Don't turn a bullet out of a piece of shit.
You obviously wanted to start something with me Sevenn, since you haven't RIA'd this Thread yet, and I have no problem with going toe to toe with you. I don't care who you are and what your rank is. I will defend against anyone who calls me out, and fight back. Don't pull you into my bullshit? Then don't stop close to my toilet.
ANYWAY....
It is interesting to think of how many different versions of the Devil have been depicted. It has indeed changed throughout the years.
Sometimes I think the Devil just takes the form of what is desireable (like a sexy man or woman) because the overall theme of the "Devil" seems to be temptation...I'm just talking about the stereotypical view of what the Devil is about.
It must depend on who you are, I'm sure people would view their version of the Devil as a terrifying deformed creature of pure evil...Who knows
Ahem....
Looking between back in history and today, it seems our general view of the Devil has changed greatly...I'd like to know why.
I can post but if you ask which one of them, this mean you are doing a poll and the forum is not for a pole,
now as to the one in movies I consider most crule would be Karmina, in a movie I saw here, when in her vampire form she was. Isabelle Cyr was a crule yet sexy vampiress
Everything boils down to perception. If god wants to be a pineapple, I'm sure god could be. According St Anselm he could be anything. If we wanted to pretend that our speculation had a defining ability on a god(s), then how godly could they be? The same with the devil- just because we have a personalized image of what good and evil are and appear as, it does not make it so.
The speculation has changed over time merely because humans have changed their outlook. When the Church was more powerful, the identity of the devil was much more horrific. Now that the ones drawing up the images are fiction media products- they have altered according to the medium.
I like the guy that plays Satan in "The Passion of The Christ"
He's great in that movie and doesn't get a lot of credit for it.
The Devils are usually the old gods that people gave their devotion to. The new religion wishes them to be seen in bad light. Propaganda you know. Manipulation.
That being said~ Did you ever notice the devil is always built? LOL.
(The propaganda there is the evil of manliness and sexuality~ the flesh)
I have issue with people and thier idea of a devil, the concept is just a transposition of ideas that many christian writers have taken and run wild with. Even in the old and new testament the idea of a devil isnt such, as much as it is the idea of the "advisary." Dragons and snakes, and all things that are considered low and parasitic seem to be tools of the devil but come on now? I guess i am fortunate enough that the relgious tradition i observe has no hell or devil but aknowledges humans and our choices as the source of all evil.
Well I don't believe in god or the devil at all so really I would not say he looks like either.
I find that a central evil figure is brought from purity to shame by acting human. So perhaps devils are the extreme personification of human nature. Our base urges are together the ultimate evil.
In answer to the question. I find the human repersentation the most interesting.
i think there is many versions of the devil but is how some people think and what they think on how the devil looks
what is in the end the only devil that really exsists are those the we see in the mirror every morning? afterall isnt the old expression better then devil that you?
In general, I prefer the rich businessman version of the devil, as it is fairly applicable to society.
Every different culture has their version of The devil. And it would differ from person to person. As for movies versions, I personally like Al Pacino in the Devils Advocate.
ok if we are picking a vision or interpritation of the devil...then i think the devil looks like me, or close enough to instill a certain amount of trust and yet not make me go thats my face....a many faced changeling if you will...but for just sheer coolness a cross between lucifer from prophesy 2 and constantine. For a classic look, I am saying a cross between the beast from season 2 of the new dr. who and the nightmare from legend.
I like the pretty boy devil that is all clever and cunning. Walks among men as being very sucessful type in movies generally. One that is indeed very far off from the worlds image of fire and torment but always has a little bit of a reminder like making you sign in blood or something...I don't know why.
I believe the devil appears as we think he should. He will take the form of whatever our mind pictures him as.
Mine would be the Christian devil. Simply because most of the time its portrayed having a cute tail.
I would prefure Sokar from StarGate SG1...but in all honesty Satan really isnt all that evil as he is made out to be....But to better explain this to you I will have to have my brother write it all down for me as I am still learning from him but Satan is not evil just misunderstood
~D~
lack of knowledge my friends... lack of knowledge...
the devil or satan or whatever you want to call him, and here i will assume that we are talking of the fallen angel... because those were the names given especially to him, not to Shiva or any other god of evil... lets call things by their names... shall we?!!
first, he never was the source of evil and he never said such thing... (he wished)
God explicit said in the bible that He is the source of good and evil... not the devil...
and second, the appearance of the devil has nothing in common with that horny, tailed, red, ugly guy we usually see in portraits...
look what the bible says about his appearance:
Ezekiel 28:12 "...Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone [was] thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
14 Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
15 Thou [wast] perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee."
see??? who the hell said he was or is ugly?
"Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty."
pride made him fall...
about movies... i like "his" paper in The Passion of the Christ... x)
a sexy man or woman playing the role of a devil would more likely imply a succubus or inccubus. I think it's strange that an "alien" species would be depicted as a devil since the devil is supposed to be of this world
I like the alien that can look human. It is a little scarier to think that anyone can be him, but it is just an illusion.
John Glover made a cool devil, I wish they didn't can that show it was awsome.
In my humble opinion, the Devil, and God as well, would appear in the guise of whatever the particular person(s) would have in their own minds as to how each would look or act.
The angel Belial... Belial is a powerful King said to have been created after Lucifer. He reigns over 80 legions of demons.
WELL IM WICCAN AND I DONT BLEAVE IN THE DEVIL BUT IF I HAD TO CHOOSE THE MOST INTERESTING ID SAY THE CHRISTION DEVIL BECOUSE MOSE CHRISTINS BLEVES HES THIS GOAT LEGED THING WITH HORNS KINDA RESEMBLES THE PAGIN GOD OF LIVE WHEN THERE BIBLE STATES THAT THE DEVIL WAS ONE OF GODS MOST BEAUTIFUL ANGELS I FIND THAT KINDA INTERESTING
Sure,it is interesting..all kinds of opposing stuff written about these Gods..Take Jehova as an example..he is commonly believed to be the Christ..And a God of light. But I have read PLENTY that states otherwise..that he is a God of darkness, and that he is not Christ, but Christs older..brother as it where..The eldest of the two Elohim. So on and so forth.Thing is,read, study and make your own decisions. What is a devil to some,is a god to others..simple as that.
Jack Nicholson playing Daryl Van Horne in the Witches of Eastwick.
Actually once your condemned you're there for eternity and can't be redeemed no amount of good acts will ever set you free. Once your sentenced to a firy torture your there for eternity. That's why they call it eternal Damnation.
Isn't the thing that resembles a goat supposed to be a baphomet?
It's very scary of the thought of the 'devil' being anyone
When it comes to the paranormal, anything that is easier to relate to is scarier. A devil that appeals to our human side would, naturally, be more terrifying. We would see in them the possibility of pure evil in ourselves--like a twisted looking glass.
Why do you think vampires are so scary--or were back when people didn't have the scientific reasoning that's so popular nowadays? -.-
For me I do not believe the devil is what everyone says he is. I think the devil is misunderstood in alot of ways and alot of people's belief on him being evil is because growing up depending on our religon we are tough he is evil and if we do evil we will go to hell and be tortured by the devil or one of his demons. Me personally I hope that when I die I do go to hell because I don't think it is what everyone says it is. My brother also has his own belief on the devil and I will have Him write it down so I can post it on here for you all to read.
I think the devil will come in many versions and guises just like in the movie "The Devils Advocate" He was tempted with everything that he wanted and desired which generally that is what the devil poses to do with people. However, from my standpoint being raised a catholic money, sex, etc, isn't concidered evil when you use these things in moderation and make "sound choices" as well as not hurt the peple around you. Thats what God gave everyone is "choice" to fend evil with.
A sneaky and devious Devil, one that is cloaked to represent something he is not. And I have to agree with dawsone the Devil in "The Passion of The Christ" was pretty damn good.
I do not believe in the devil,I believe that everyone does the things they do because that is their own decision, you can not blame the so called Devil for anything you do in this life, but most around me think that the Devil was an angel cast out of heaven because e wanted to take over the Kingdom
All I have to say is ONE day or night we will all be aware of the truth. It may be what you believe or it may not. But there is true pure evil in this world and you can call it "the devil" or whatever you want. It's there and it's not going away. Some day everyone will know the truth. I personally cannot wait to know. If my beliefs turn out to be wrong then I will certainly be glad to change them. But no one is going to tell me the devil doesn't exist. The movies make him sometimes something you would want to be. NO thank you. You can keep him. :)
There many versions of the devil floating around and different religions and cultures hold different view points as to what the after life holds for the good and the bad. It is highly subjective since we are giving theories about what we think is out there. The firey pits offer encouragement to undecided, and the belated karma for everyone who has been hurt in this life time.
Diabolus simia Dei, the Devil imitates God --- Tertullian, a second century Christian writer.
I don't understand why people dislike the devil. The devil is just the opposite of god.
I think many religions and cultures created a devil or evil god for source for all evil.. mostly because they couldn't face the fact we all have a fine balance of evil and purity within us. It is easier to say the devil made me do it than to say it was my fault entirely.
Also I think the change to make the devil human reflects that point.
We are human there fore we err! We are all angels and devils really!
well ya cant have good without evil and i was married to her for 13 years so she is real
Satan (Divine), Satan, Azazel, Legba, Ghede, Baron Samedi, Emma O, Poocoaka, Cernunnos, Chango, Sorath, Ganesha, Satan (Incarnate), The symbol 666 - the number of man is 6 because man was created on the sixth day...
wow trippy,
in my oppinion, when you die you either get horrible flashes of your misdeads or you get a whole in the ground for your body and your spirit and mind go to a happy peaceful place.either way i dont think a devil or all being of evil exists
I think and am not sure after reading most of these posts. I got an energy blast of negativity that hit the pit of my stomach, lol.
I think the term devil and satan are generic and describe beings that do various tasks so we don't always know who they are talking about exactly. One is the adversarial personification and the other is the epitome of evil and if you consider anything other than human to be alien then I am all for that definition.
I personally don't believe in either, lol. I think it is man's way to explain when things happen of a negative nature and why. Also a scare tactic to keep people in line with religious teachings.
I think the original idea of the devil from the bible makes perfect sense he was called star of the morning son of the dawn and was said to be the most beautiful angel ever created in the heavens. Would make sense since they say the devils greatest trick was to make man believe that he doesn't exist. What better way to do that then to appear as a beautiful angel of light.
The version of the devil that most intrigued me was the devil in Dante's Inferno. I read the book when I was younger in school, and I thought it was interesting how Dante portrayed the innermost circle of hell as an icy realm. The fact that the devil had three heads was interesting to me as well. It reminded me of the spiritual belief of the trinity, which is common to a few different paths.
And, I could never forget Al Pacino as the devil burning his finger in holy water in the movie The Devil's Advocate. He was something...
I have to say, i loved Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate!
XipeToltec's point reminded me of how early Christians wanted to steer others away from the Pagan religions...
One of the coolest figures of these older religions was Pan. So its no wonder the Christians used Pan's features to describe the devil. You know hooves, horns and a tail.
This is a great topic.
My fave I screen devil?
Prolly Tim Curry...(I forget the movie)
(if someone can combine this and my previous post- it'd be great)
Coolest Rendition;

Tim Curry "Legend"
Hottest Rendition;

Elizabeth Hurley "Bedazzled"
I believe that the devil is nothing more then an angel that got sick of heaven an moved away. Not the embodiment of evil nor torture, just a different form of angel.
If the assignment of evil only comes from a rival faction (i.e. Christianity)... then I say take it with a grain of salt.
The Devil need no more be evil than any other religion.
He was an angel, then decided he should be allowed the same freedoms as "lowly humans". Sounds like a job dispute to me. Neither side necessarily being wrong...
No matter what rendition of "evil's" face one wishes to conjure into their minds to bring into reality, it is pure an simple still a religious idealism. Friggin zionists will put said face onto anything they either do not like, wish to outcast, or mainly to blame society for whatever habitual fundamental in their mind society has broken. Pure and simple.
Such would be the phrase "They got the devil in them."
I believe the devil can take in many forums . The devil can be a beautiful women and a man
Also alot of people said that certain rock music was the devil and witch craft and vampyerism
Yes, Satansbride, the devil can take in many "forums" just look at the beginning of this "forum" thread...(Chuckles).
Soulshroude Yes your right, ~giggles~
If i had to pick on it would be a tie with the guy from legend and the guy from passion, he gave me chills. o.o
Too bad the character from Legend was the son of the devil, as he did call to his father of whom was in the fireplace.
A few of my favorites are Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey Devil when they get excorcised to hell, The Prophesy movie with Viggo Mortensen as Lucifuge,as well as The Stand with Jamie Sheridan as Randall Flag aka Lucifuge.
Ok so its been a while last i saw the movie, he would still make a good devil, don't yea think?
Oh, and I am in wonderful agreeance with Al pacino as Lucifuge in the Devil's Advocate, as well as Gabriel Byrne as Lucifuge in End of Days.
Plus the Goat hooved devils from the Grimms Fairy Tales the movie, about the guy who sold his soul with the devil giving him a fur coat with an endless money pocket within it.
Wonder who will remember that one.
Devil's Advocate is one of my fav. movies, and I don't remember the last one you speak of.
More than likely you wouldn't, it was made in the late 60's.
Now, as far as naming the devil... are the legion of names all referring to the same entity? Is it just that each culture used their own name for the same creature? The list of names Doru spewed forth earlier are all correct names for various devils or demons...
I just got this image of the same creature, having many many aliases. Kinda like a wallet full of driver's licenses.
i believe just in one devil, but not devil, satan...it´s describe in church of satan...satan isn´t same as devil..so be careful...
I like the book Memnoch the devil by Anne Rice because in that one it gives you the opinion of how things could be better if he had his way and that god just wanted things to go his way all the time. It is more of a debate on who is better god or the devil.
and if he was (supposedly) created by god... it's very typical of a power struggle as a young man matures and wants to strike out on his own. as many adults eventually leave their parents' homes.
I believe the devil will appear however you see it. If you envision the devil as a red guy with horns, that's what he'll look like to you.
The same goes for god, which is why I believe it's depicted in so many ways - caucasian man, black man, woman. It's however you see it in your minds eye.
John Glover as the Devil in Brimstone
But, here think about this. Isnt it amazing that almost all cultures around the world who dont even have contact with eachother have similarities in their beliefs on the devil? thousands of miles away and one tribe has the same vision of the devil as we do.
The movie that red devil dude guy up there with the horns....is from...
LEGEND.
Another great rendition of Good Vs. Evil.
well if there is a devil he is evil living being or alien it makes no difference.
i will tell you though a devil that made me LAUGH was the one from the tenacious d movie pick of destiny
