..Do you believe that it's possible to sell your soul per se to an Entity or even Satan himself/herself?
..Have you ever met anyone who had?
Discuss..
It's possible to make pacts, the payment (or punishment) for which is your soul. I have heard of it happening, but not experienced it myself. I do not want anyone else's soul enough to bargain for it. And I would assume that anyone who would bargain their soul would be either a non-believer, in which case their soul would have little value; or be desperate, in which case I would not take their soul as payment anyway.
hmmm, good point. i guess it's all in the eye of the believer, per se, they'd make a pact because they believed in the value of the soul, or didn't believe in a soul at all.
Well, if you think about it a little less laterally, the song was about someone who sold their soul to the devil in order to obtain musical mastery. Whether it was worth it or not was a different matter. Popular culture is full of such references... it's seen as the supposedly easy way out, but really being full of hidden pitfalls and traps.
well yes, this leads back to the effects of the Entertainment Industry on how we perceive all things mysterious and occult-based.
songs and movies, even television series (Reaper) have focused on this "myth".
Well what is a soul??
The core of who you are and how it defines your behaviour??
If so people can alter who they are and how they act, changing the essence of who they are for monetary or other gain.
So you can sell your soul.
As for devils, demons and witches??
If your lucky you might get a buy one get one free deal.
it all goes back to empirical evidence....prove that there's something out there to buy it, prove that there's something to sell.
That's a tough question....the soul, as far as I understand it, is the very essence of someone. If that was sold or taken away somehow....I find it hard to imagine the person could even function. Unless the soul isn't claimed until after death....but that still doesn't really make sense. How could it ever be claimed like that, and used by anyone other than the individual it belongs to?
I'm gonna say no on this one, I don't think your soul can be sold.
Literally sell? No... of course not.
And yet... anytime we deny what we know to be true and do what we know to be harmful in the long term so as to achieve some short-term gratification, we are indeed exchanging something of great importance and worth -- our integrity, our honor, our "soul," if you will -- for a short-term thrill or desire that has no lasting or intrinsic value. Such poor "transactions" over time and without learning them to be such does damage to our souls and stunts our spiritual and emotional growth.
our souls were sold the moment goverment started to tax us ... hell it goes back to the begining with slaves.
if you mean the myth of a devil buying your soul...lol
please
i do not think that you can sell your soul you may think that you can and if you think you did i think it is your internal self that causes the bad things that happen
i think the idea of selling ur soul is the stupidest thing anybody could, the soul is who u essentiually r.
In a metaphorical sense, yes. If your soul is indeed who you are, then to sell your soul could be to go against your own beliefs or morals...hence the term 'sell-out'.
But in a literal sense, no I don't think so. But my mind is open!
I think that many of us do just that in our day to day lives, not literally to the devil but in our integrity. That being said you would firstly have to believe in the devil and that the soul has a infinite value before you could entertain the idea that to sell your soul is possible, I am not sure I believe in either.

Here is a story that is said to be true about musician Robert Johnson who was said to have sold his soul to the Devil himself. I believe he believed he did just that. I do not know of anyone now who would consider such a thing however.
I dont believe u can seel your soul. I see this as only a myth
i agree, if you could sell your soul, i think we would hear more stories about it then the handful that are out there.you hear people say it almost every day, so some one would have to have told you if they really did..
you see everyone talks about it but no one wants to really do it because it's your soul, after death you would be royally fucked.
I think we haven't heard of the few who might've because you wouldn't HAVE to pay until after death, and you can't really tell someone once you've died because if you sold your soul I doubt you could be a ghost or anything like that.
I think it's possible, just rarely done and when it is done you don't really know about it.
I think you are "selling your soul" when you take a path that is unjust in your own mind to reach a goal. Every time you break with your own morals, it gets easier. If you think of when that term is used, it is when someone aquired a great skill or wealth. To aquire such requires a great deal of time and energy, at the expense of other things such as family.
I think it's possible though I've never met anyone that has yet
as our soul is our life, I think that technicly you can sell it...as you can sell your life to serve someone...or something...but as to sell after life?..hum I highly doubt it
Yes I believe you can, and more people do than they think.
Have you ever loved someone so badly, so much, that you would do anything for them, to be with them, to be accepted by them? Do you not change yourself to be what they would most like, most find appealing. So are you not selling your soul to them, (although they might not even know it) for their affection?
Do not believe in the "just sign here on the dotted line" sell a soul for fame or fortune. However, do believe in people 'selling themselves out' for something they want so badly that they will become something they are not to another person to achieve their goal.
i've always thought that the power of the mind rules over the body, that if we set our minds to do something, it can....for example, you hear about people using the power of positive thinking to "heal" themselves ...
...in that vein, it is the very reason why, i feel, you see some people stumbling under the powers of curses and whatnot, and why others ride free....they let their minds carry them above such mal intents, because we are the only ones that truly "rule" US...meaning, no one else can have or own our souls, period, so the idea of selling your soul or using it as a "bargaining chip" is ludicrous.
if I had one to sell than I would be in line to trade it up for one better because I have been jipped and the chief in command better be there for the complaint because I have a few bones to pick with him on a few things
I guess it depends on the context really...
Metaphorically, violating your core values and beliefs in order to get something you want...
Myth … or I would of found how to sell mine a long time ago
definitely a myth, or we'd all be able to bargain up for better lives.
I'd say myth as I don't think the soul of us is ours to sell.
No, I don't believe that's possible, but as others have said some of us sell ourselves everyday in some sense.
Well..what value would you put on your soul? It is ironic to imagine anyone going around with a little basket filled with gold, or a list of earthly goods.
I like to look at the history behind the myths. Saint Theophilus the Penitent or Theophilus of Adana (died ca. 538) was an Orthodox cleric in the sixth century Church who is said to have made a deal with the devil to gain an ecclesiastical position. His story is significant as it is the oldest story of a pact with the Devil and was an inspiration for the Faust legend.
Theophilus
The Golden Ass, a second century Latin novel by the North African, Lucius Apuleius, predates Theophilus's story and may have been a partial inspiration for it. In the Golden Ass, the narrator is transformed into a donkey through his misguided experiments with sorcery. Apuleius escapes his predicament only through an appeal to Isis, whom he agrees to serve for the rest of his life.
I never met no one who did it, but I believe it is possible to engage that kind of process, of selling ones "soul" in exchange for a deal, and agreement. I guess it is a matter of skillful summoning of a entitie wich is capable of such deeds. Upon striking such a agreement I believe one shouldnt be stupid, and cheap in its own perceptiones, wich should form a wish in the most quality way, to gain the maximum out of the deal. I guess it shouldbe a omnipotent wish. After all one is giving its souls in exchange, wich is priceless in a way of some other abilitie.
i have heard that you can make a deal... but i have never met anyone who had done it...
nevertheless, in the countryside, there are a lot of stories about people who did and when they got what they wanted, and they were about dying, they suffered a lot
Yes I Think
Bill Gates
Ownes creates and sells products that most of us use and need every day and we dont have any choice in the matter of buying them
from him because he wont let any one compete with him and he gets away with it
IE is the only program that works with all web sites and WWW does stand for 666
Microsoft earns over 2.8 Billion Dollars a day so he has more money than god
The Internet is causing the world to go to hell and hes getting rich from it
Sounds like he sold hes soul to the devil to me
Why would you want to ?
I wouldn`t do it but that is just me ..
Lets just say you sold it the buyer, would be able to torch er you threw out eternity...
Souls are based on faith, if people have no faith they may not believe they have a soul. It's not a physical thing examined at an autopsy or backed by scientific proof therefore many people have a hard time believing in its existance.
On the other hand, there are people who believe the exact opposite. They believe in the existance of their soul so much, they're willing to do anything to prove it's pure and will go to whatever they believe is heaven.
I think the first would sell their soul because they would believe since I they don't have one anyway, they'd be getting something for nothing.
The second would do anything to save their soul and therefore would want to keep it at all time and keep it pure in the eyes of whatever they believe god.
I do not beleive it is possible for two reasons.
i)_The soul is not property.
ii)_The soul is a clever delusion.
bigz4500 - the statement "more money than God" is really funny because since God is a diety he has none. So in turn a pauper actually has more money than God.
I BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE A PACT WITH THE DEVIL, BUT I DON'T KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS. I WOULDN'T WANT TO,PERSONALLY.
As the stories go, you sign on the dotted line in blood or good ink with the devil - your soul for whatever you wish in life. Not too often, did that person reap those benefits for years and years - but the tricky devil would collect and laugh all the way back to hell.
Its hard to barter with somthing that was never yours to begin with.
But then agian if a person can be placed into slavery, then I guess a soul can too.
There is a term for the selling of ones soul.. I can't think of it right now darnit. I remember hearing it on Charmed once.
hmm tough question indeed first of what is the soul?
is it A : something the church came up with in order to strike fear of the unknown into people like the idea of heaven and hell.
is it B: the spirit of the living things or life force if you will?
or C: the combined teachings and observations you as a being has been taught from baby through parrents friends and experiences?
if A: then selling your soul is to gain knowledge and going against theire wishes.
if B : selling your soul i think is to go against the natural flow of life and all living things meaning to kill other living things not to survive but fun. not acknowledge other than youself, and there opinions. destroying the earth.. our home.. to belive what others say and never think youself.
if C: I think its to go against your family friends steal from them, lie to them in order to gain yourself. loss of one's principels and honour. one that can not be trusted.
I belive that there is no devil or god other than the one's within. meaning to be in hell is to feel bad hate yourself hate life, to have others think for you and control you..... Or like the world today in terms of regulations video survailance , tv brainwashing ect.
heaven is to feel good about who you are to understand the BS that IMO the elites want you to belive. its to be open minded and to accept the role you play in this existence and maybe do something about it*
so the soul i think is a mix between option B and option C.
there could be other possebilities that i haven't discovered yet so this is what i could come up with.
of course there are possetive and negative energies in the universe so to be a negative traped in possetive is hell and possetive traped in negative is hell . its all a matter of what you belive and think .....I belive .
so based on my views i belive it to be possible depending of what you moral and belifs are
how can you sell something that's a tangent?
it all goes back to how you believe.
A Faustian deal.. that's what I was thinking of earlier.
Faustian may be:
A work of fiction, or a fictional character, may be cited as being "Faustian" if it involves a literal or proverbial "deal with the devil", such as that portrayed in the story of Faust. Such dealings are often referred to as "Faustian deals", and as such there is usually short term gain (e.g. fame, fortune, knowledge) for long term pain (i.e. the person's soul).
Faustian Deal
Perhaps commit ,maybe we can even invest the energy of our soul.Pieces of our concsiousness are robbed from us every day yet the soul ...perhaps the energy is negotiable but the sum of it is ...as mentioned untangable. However some times our conciousness is over taxed and we feel our soul to be a secondary source of reserve energy...so if we "zap" it with mystic or religious zeal or dark energy there by perhaps suppressing the soul so that when we pass we have no soul energy to "launch us into the afterlife so we sink to a level where we need to "power up more"For the next go round.
I think it is probably just a myth. Well, more of a metaphor for taking the easy road. Everyone would like to think that there is an easy way to get whatever you want. I think its just an interesting story that grabs peoples attention because often times people are to lazy to put time and dedication into what they want and taking shortcuts can be appealing.
Do i think it could be done? mabey? i would have to see it for myself
I honestly dont think it's possible to sell your soul.. not literally anyway. Maybe metaphorically but I wouldn't know how..
Well you can sell your soul on ebay...Your rights. lol
But I think that as we live, we're selling our soul. Decisions make us change, and sometimes, when we make a wrong decisions, a piece of us goes away. Maybe that could be defined as selling your soul.
But literally making a pact with an entity for your soul...I don't think any entity has the power to take your soul.
I believe you can for the fact I have papers that says I own your soul once you die.
That and I've seen it in peoples eyes, they sell it for money and being wealthy yet they don't see that never last.
Could the soul be tainted (something marking or polluting) so that it can not "go into the light"?I think it can and taint can be shed...however corruption(something is added that alters the soul)May even effect our concsiousness. The price for a soul and the reward...one shot at being a star...what you have to give...is in what you have to take in loneliness, and the negative publicity.
no i dont think it can. The soul is you and not anyone else.
I think one could sell there soul... and i honestly dont think that you have to be a believe of dieties to do so.... I mean what is a work-a-holic? one whom sells his life and life force for the gain of profit... in the end it turns out to be a highly negitive thing.... when you want something badly enough that you are willing to sacrifice all happiness for it then you have sold some part of yourself for it.
nope, load of crap i have stated i would sell my soul for shitloads of money heaps of times, it never works
i do not believe that there is a satan so there 4 no i think that you cant
ShadowKnight5107, I believe that Satan was just an example since Kontradiction and "entity." I could be wrong though.
I like the analogy already spoken in this thread of it being like taking the easier road instead of working for your goals. Take the easy way out and it may come back to bite you in the butt so to speak.
Good point LumiyaOfTheSith, I can't believe I forgot to mention that haha. D'oh.
I have actually seen people selling there souls on e bay which I thought was kinda stupid myself I don't think it is really possible to sell your soul.
darkicewolf, I like your theory. People make sacrifices for fame, money, etc. How many moves have there been where someone chooses their mega-successful career instead of their high school sweetheart. I think the last one I saw was with Nicholas Cage and Tia Leoni? I can't think of the name.
They exchange one thing (their chance at love, chance for a happy family, etc) something that could last for something that doesn't like fame, fortune, etc.
Which would you prefer, a beautiful baby to love you and bless you with grandchildren someday or a lonely career and tons of money. One will be everlasting, once you have a child they're always your child. Money, jobs, careers come and go...
Okay bid now open for Movie passes Popcorn and Dots expected but not required.
I agree with you BoneyardVixen...I believe that people "sell their souls" when they drop down a level so to speak to obtain something that they want without having to really work hard for it. Or as you stated...choosing something monetary over something that is everlasting.
I don't believe we can actually sell our souls but we can sell ourselves out to get the things that we want in life. We become less of a human being I believe when we do that and turn more into an animal. I also believe that each one of us has done that at some point in our lives whether it was for something small or something big. It is in us as humans to want more and lust after things that we do not need. So in a sense wouldn't that be selling our souls?
I don't think it's a matter of selling your soul. I think it is just doing something so against your real nature that it will hurt yourself or others.
So I suppose it could be called "Selling out"
But if you do believe in Satan then I suppose you could sell your soul to him. I don't know what he would do with it or how much your soul would be worth...
ill sell my soul to the devil if i can have the one thing i loved the most back
you know, i'd be half tempted to sell, if it meant an easier life..lord knows i've had it very hard. but then again, it has made me the person i am today...so what gives?
(food for thought)
A lesson learned the hard way sticks in your brain a lot better haha ;)
/waves at Kontra!
Just because it's not truly possible to sell your soul doesn't mean that people haven't tried. I think people compromise the core of who they are every day to get the things they think they cannot live without, like selling yourself off chunk by chunk, day by day.
I think its myth.. why, because a body is just a vessel.. your soul is what brings you to life... just my point of view.. no i would never sell my soul.. it is what makes me who i am
if you believe in christian religon (like me) then yes i think it's possible.... i have never met anyone who has ....
I dont think a soul can be sold but it would be kinda cool to think that there is a possibility and is it worth it?
I think it is possible to make some pacts that would regard the afterlife or even the present life in a certain manner...
I guess that the problem resides in everyone's conscience... and the way you think that the afterlife will be...
But, i also know that there is possible to gain control over someone's soul even if they don't actually want something in return... so the selling part is just for people who don't believe in themselves and in their strength.
Some believe you can bargain your soul to an entity or Satan himself/herself. Or a pact can be made with the price or punishment is your soul.
I've heard many stories of people selling their souls for something they wanted beyond believe.
I do not believe you can sell your soul.
I do not believe you truly own it, so you therefore could not sell it. It is a part of the whole, if you will; and, as such, could not be "sold".
Who would want to sell there soul in to first place? I mean would you not fill numb after you do it? Empty and cold.
you'd have to actually believe that that would cause that effect...once again, empirical evidence doesn't "prove" you're cold n' empty inside, "belief" does.
I believe it’s possible but very foolish sense we humans don’t even understand ourselves let alone some higher power.
Yes I have met a few people who say they have but they where young and “grew out of it.”
