Over the weekend my roomates and I had something very strange happen. The three of us were sitting in the livingroom talking when I of my roomates yelled out "What The Hell", we all looked to see what he was pointing at. It was a tall figure that was pure black, the figure was wearing a hat and looking down toward the floor. He walked through our dining room and walked through the wall which led to the outside. About 10 minutes later, he walked back through the wall and across the dining room. We all got up to see where he was heading but he disappeared. We are all still pretty freaked out over it.
My question is does anyone have an idea of what we saw?

a spirit, your house might hold the presence of one and this is the first time that you realised it.

Well last summer I saw a mist in the dining room which even caused my dog to bark. And we use to her a child laughing and running up and down the stairs. This one just seem to be different because it was a form of a person and it really scared us. Although I don't feel it attended to do any harm. Do you think we have anything to worry about?

i would just let it be for now, and call in a medium if it starts doing things to upset you, because honestly, you don't know if it's "good" or "bad" at this point, so best be safe and let it be.

you know often times a ghost will appear as a black figure and sometimes a demon could too. In fact the demon of darkness appears as a black figure often times as a man. So that either one could have been what you saw.

that was honestly my point, you don't know if it's demon or ghost, so just let it be, and hope that it was just an anomaly that you saw. if it starts causing problems, then you would have to decide if you chose to take action to remove it from your dwelling.

I wouldn't get too freaked out about it.. It's nothing that major. Most likely just a spirit. I mean it's not like it did anything to you or your friends so no worries.

I doubt the spectre is a demon, they rarely show up unless summoned (except in fiction). Most likely it is a ghost and means you no harm. It seems you may have more than one, as you mentioned a child as well. It may be interesting to research the history of the building where you live, and the land where it was built. You may find something interesting.

I have done alittle work on the history, when we first relised the pressence of the child. And when my grandaughter started playing with her and calling her Susie. Back in 1973 there was a Day Care Center here and to my surprise a little girls name Susie was very sick with a pneomonia and passed away in her sleep. I talked with the lady who ran the daycare and she shared the story with me, letting me know what a wonderful little girl Susie was. But it devisated the lady so bad she closed the Center down and sold it. The next owners remodeled and made it into a two story house.

so the child is probably the trapped spirit of Susie, not realising she's dead, and need to go into the Light.

There is no reason to fear the "Black Figure" unless it does something to harm you or those in your home.
I have had many many experiences with spirits and they may be trying to communicate with you. Be open to the idea of bringing a medium .

A medium would be the best choice and safe path to go down. He or she may be able to tell you a lot more about the black figure and Susie.

I'd willingly remove the the black figure from the dwelling, to be safe, but as it was stated, if the entity was to harm you and your mates, the figure would of already made its move.

So the action that you should take determines on how you and your mates feel when your around the black figure, but a medium would be able to answer your question more accurately and throughly.

*note* talking to a medium means talking to a professional...

Ah, I've heard of him before. They call him Hatman. No joke.

So it goes, our shadows are their own beings in their own universe, and all have emotions and whatnot. It is said that right before we go to sleep, when we're in that half-awake half-asleep days, we can talk to them, but the time is usually so short we don't say much, if anything. And so, most shadow people are fed up with waiting for us to say anything. But as I've heard, Hatman is different. He is of the shadow people, and waits longer and is more patient than most of his kin.

From what I've heard, nothing. He just sort of stands there, doesn't say much.

To the original poster of this forum, try talking to him if you see him again. I'd like to investigate and document, but, I'm not sure if you live anywhere near, or if you would be comfortable with a stranger who answered to a forum on the Internet.

Seriously if there is a Hatman or not.....if there is a child spirit attached to the property in some way, it also "invites" others to join them sometimes. There could be a portal.

That is true. Although from all things I've heard about him, he doesn't seem to do any harm other than someone frightened of his appearance. I haven't heard of any bad things preceding him or coming after him.

But nevertheless, as the previous poster said, it's good to be careful.

I would go with what the rest have said... have some one come and investigate what the real deal is with this spirit.... if you've never seen him before this and have been there awhile i would feel like something is amis

So the black figure man is also known as the Hatman...and from what i've read on this post is that he's harmless and willing to listen to what you have to say that other's dont want to hear about...

the question arise is that could the Black Figure aka Hatman be our shadow part of ourselves?

well if a black figure walks through a wall..then..yah its a paranormal phenomiun.....that i would think...but if black figure is the same as the hatman....by the describtion given and from other's views on it, i'd say its the same...and that its something that just senses that ya need someone or something their to listen to ya....

Could be a "ghost" or what I call a spirit. The figure you saw may be traped between life and death.

Try going back farther than 1973 - what was on the land before the current home? Could have been a man wearing a black coat from the 1800s, many different things. Seems the spirit is not threatening anyone or anything and is just there for a reason. See what you can find out about the area.

Last year we help cross Susie over to the light. And not heard of her since then. Everything was quiet until the mysterous mist floated through, then it quieted down until this figure appearred. And now this, I will have to check on the 'hatman'. Sounds interesting.

Of course, this may be another cased of the 'shadow people', as this is so apparent in the new millenium. Sometimes you see them out right, and other times they lurk about. If it were all black, it may have been a shadow person, not a ghost per say, but a dimension jumper.

they are called the dark ones. but apparently they havent passed over to our realm yet. and they are pure evil.
what you saw was probably a darkling.

i would be cautious till i knew for sure if the spirit was there for harm or not.

Do research on the House and the land it sets on...depends on what you believe...could be nothing...could be as they say on Ghost Hunters...the spirit of a dead person that doesn't know they are dead or they know and they are trying to find out why.

but i still say if the black figure was to harm someone, it would of done so by now....

Maybe the spirit needs something. Try getting people who deal with that (hard to find I know) and see what they want. It wont go away until what it needs is fulfilled. I agree, if it wanted to hurt you it would have done so by now.

like the majority of the reponses you got here, which are mostly all positive, seek an medium, that would be the best way to go i would think. like Chaos said, its probably needing something fullfilled thats all.

if it was going to harm you, it would of appeared to you more time and time again getting more dangerouos each time.

Now something new happened which I found very frightening. I was asleep in bed to be woke up my my matress being felt like it was being walked across. It didn't feel heavy enough to be a human, or my dog(she's a very large dog) more like a cat's weight which freaks me out because I don't have a cat. I sat up and called out for my dog, she came up to the doorway of my bedroom but would not enter. I laid back down, the next thing that happened really has me freaked out. It felt has someone laid in my bed next to me, I tried to roll over but for some reason unknown to me I could not, I laid there scared , having tears falling from eyes for about 10 minutes trying to move. Finally I got one leg slid off the bed and I finally got sat up and out of bed. Now I'm afraid to sleep in my bedroom. I have been sleeping on the couch in the living room with all the lights on. Do you think this could have anything to do with the black figure we saw that night?

I think so But If it were going to cause harm on you It would of allready.Maybe get a background on the house you live in or something and see if any one has any relitives that might have passed away.Someone is trying to commuincate with you.

While this "Hatman" passing through is not cause for alarm, something physically assaulting you and frightening you is unacceptable. That is YOUR space, and you need to own it. I would learn some basic protection spells/meditations asap. type in "white light protection " in any search engine, and pick what works for you.

Then, call in a medium or other trained professional, perhaps the one who helped you cross Suzie. I wish you luck. That kind of experience is not fun on any level.

What you came across in your apartment is known as a shadow person.

There are many things this black figure could have been anything from a spirit, ghost, residual haunting....

We call them Shadow people! Normally you catch a dark figure out of the corner of your eye. It is rare for one to be visible for any length of time. Could someone have walked past a light somewhere out side a window?

My question is does anyone have an idea of what we saw?

Might have been a soul reliving its last few hours of life.

I agree with the majority. You have seen a spirit or ghost that haunts the last time they remember being alive. It sounds like a rather sad soul too, just my added thought.

okay we did a protection spell and a house cleansing spell, hopefully it works. My younger male roomate is experiencing his door opening and closing, he told me today he also has something sitting on his bed and as laid there and watched his blankets be pulled down off of him, which is really starting to bother him. So hopefully are house will be back to normal soon.

Well, I'm just gonna go right ahead and admit that I don't know what the hell that was, but if I do encounter something like that, I will be freaked out a bit because I won't know what the thing can do, and I will try to get help if I need it.

It's possible it was nothing but a Spirit or Ghost.

I think that what you saw was eaither a spirit or demon. Whatever is bothering you and your roomates at night is definatly eaither someone trying to communicate with you that has passed on or an evil spirit. I think you should do reserch on the house/land and see if anything bad happened there, and call a professional to get the spirits OUT. No matter what once they start scaring you and your roomates they need to be gotten out as soon as possible.

You said it was remodeled after it was a day care and it closed down. I've heard that remodling a place that people have lived in and or died in can awaken them and make them restless. I would just dig deeper into the history of the house as said above and see if there is anything on a man with a hat that could of possible lived and or died there.

This a true story a few months ago there was a black shadow walk down our stairs abort 1 or 2 in the morning and the feet was in the stairs, i did a potion and made a spell and tried to vanquish the black shadow but he dissapered and we have not seen him since

I've had a somewhat similar experience (quite a few of them, actually). They're called shadows. Spirits, if you will. They usually don't make themselves known, unless they know you can see them. Then they tend to bug you, and as long as you don't show fear, you should be fine. Once you show fear, they take it to the next level. Or at least, that's been my experience.

It was probably what we know as a 'ghost'. I, however, don't believe in ghosts, only because I've yet to witness one myself. This is something I'd need to see to believe.

I understand what you mean Gregory, I have never seen one myself. I don't know what to think unless I see one with my own eyes.

It could have been a great many things ranging from a ghost to a spot that is broken.

There are places where some thing happen, some one was killed or maybe just some thing that was very important to some one and it kinda stains a place. You may see what happen there as if it was a ghost but really its just the impression of what happen there replaying.

He could just be having a laugh from watching people get freaked over him. Pay him no heed. He's probably just a spirit that hasn't moved on yet like the others. Or possibly a doppelganger of anyone who was connected to the child or simply passed through there at one point and hasn't yet faded away.

i have seen your shadow figure once in my life. I happens when you least expect it.

Shadow people known as Shadow men, shadow folk, or shadow beings are said to be shadow like creatures of supernatural origin that appear as dark forms in the peripheries of people's vision and disintegrate, or move between walls, when noticed. I have had people tell me that they are Aliens but I don't believe this. I have seen these figures several times throughout my life and I believe that they are beings in another realm other then this.

Most likely a spirit. I had the same thing happen to me a long time ago. Except the shadow just moved across the wall and then was gone.

Ive seen something very much simalar my whole life, about 6 foot tall, black looking atire as if a trench coat, a hat, and always peering down, arms folded.....

It could be a restless spirit that's been in your house for quite some time and just wanted to make it's presence known. Pay attention to it though if it shows up again - it could be there to give you a message of some sort. Spirits usually don't let themselves be seen without a reason behind their appearance.

Wow, cool. I would love to see that. I did though, see a shadow person crawl from the hall or bedroom to our bedroom. It was weird. It touched Danny as he was sleeping. He thought it was me crawling on the floor to mess with him. But it disappeared when he sat up.

It's could be a spirit or maybe the wall between the dimensions is thin it that area. If you believe in that kind of stuff.

Have you seen the black figure after your first encounter?

Did you take any of the suggestions given on the history of where you live? Who could have lived there before and such?

black masses are normal occurences for the pharanormal. id say you got a spirit of some sort . if it aint bothered you so far id say you have nothing to fear . it just might of been th first time you actually have seen it. mist of some sorts can also be linked to the pharanormal. it could of been the same spirit. just trying to manafest its self . id do some history on the property see what you can come up with maybe even get a tape recorder of some sort and see if you cant get some evps (electronic voice phenomens) might be interesting what you come up with .
