alright so the third eye is used for seeing energy, but why would we have it unless we needed it?
annnd do we need it anymore?
chances are that no, we dont need it but if we had full use of it then we would be better off.
kind of like legs, you dont absolutely need them, but with them you can do alot more.
the only techniques i know for using the third eye are
open and close your eyes while putting the forefinger of your dominant hand on your third eye ((tiz located between your eyebrows about an inch up)) and visualize your third eye opening and closing along with your two others.
annnd
send alot of energy at your third eye and that should activate it.
anyone know any other techniques or have questions about the third eye?
The Third Eye in physical form is thought to be the Pineal gland, located in the geometric center of the brain. It plays at least a small function in the production of melatonin which helps regulate sleep. According to Wikipedia, the gland is larger in children but shrinks at puberty. This could be a basis for the Waldorf School of thought which claims children are closer to the spiritual realm, they having just come from there.
As for opening and closing it - I don't know if its really necessary to touch your forehead. Meditation, brink of sleep, and a little darkness should be all you need to stimulate this gland.
Well, opening of the third eye, goes best, if one tryes to elevate to a higher level of awareness, and that is best done in practising the deep meditation.
Of course the whole process requires pure patience, in disspelling the illusions with wich the mind triffles, and understanding, and accepting how the things really are.
Again, Patience only.
It is about Gaining the Complete vision.
I would dissagree that the third eye is better off with out it.
Maybe you are just missing the point by concluding that.
The third eye signifies in your being, that actually there is much more here than our current sight can envision, that there is much more in every ones being.
Theres the whole universe, and after that, the last, and ever begining/radiating station,
the Absolut, it self, the Beauty of the Soul.
;)

If you are really serious in "understanding" the third eye, than I suggest you should get your self familiarised, and educated, in meditation, in that way so you become a succesfull meditator.
The third eye actually IS this meditation it self.
As stronger your meditation goes, more aware you get of your third eye.
More aware, of the outter "limits".
More aware of your self.
I can agree that the pineal gland may be deemed useless at this point, but without it, where would our childhood dreams go?
No studies have been conducted on any Buddhist monks regarding the size of their pineal gland, but from their experience with meditation and their spiritual enlightenment I would have to say they are the most qualified to be a standard with which any studies should be compared against.
Perhaps the shriveling of this gland has contributed to a downfall in society. Maybe our parents were right about a "godless society", and this is "what's wrong with the world today". If anything, that is the true reason to retain the third eye, thereby making it a necessity.
The key really lies in this mastering of meditation, of mastering the control, the concetration of one self.
Waldorf is a private school initiated by Rudolph Steiner. Teachers are taught to speak to young children in a sing-song voice because it's more angelic. Children are thought to be more closely tied to the ethereal world than adults and by fostering this connection, children might learn more effectively. I'm not totally sold on the practice. As a matter of fact, the way the teachers talk kind of annoys me, but the kids play a multitude of instruments by sixth grade, speak two or more languages, learn chemistry by sixth grade, and are phenomenal artists. Can't be all bad.
alixaryon, i hadnt thought that the third eye actually WAS meditation, more or less.
Wolfsbohne
Scientific aproach is realy irrelevant in this case, it only stirrs the process.
It is not about trying to rationalise it, cuz it cant be rationalised, it can only be experienced.
It all lies in, it is all about, in looking deeper in one self.
CerbsX
Well look, try it on your self, no questiones, and you will understand the terms, it is actually one and the same thing.
Try it out, get profficient in being a meditator, practice a bit, you will be amased with the "results" :)
Again I repeat, Concetration in meditation, slowly with patience, try seeing the unseen.
But without tension, but with relaxation, going deeper and deeper.
From our material bodily perspective, once experienced, all that really kicks ass.
There is so much energie, it is unbelivable.
It is such a ride :)
alixaryon, I will have to disagree with you. Without that gland, you might not be able to look inside of yourself at all.
I think it may be a matter of evolution. If we consider the evolution of man from Afarensis to Human, then we might get a better view of why we need this gland, how to better make use of it, nurture it, and educate the masses. It's easy to say that we need to maintain our teeth, as they are important to our nutrition and ultimately health, but showing a child what happens when you don't maintain that health makes more of an impact on their consciousness.
so you think that people are more or less advanced machines, and so is the mind, right?
my daughter is autistic and would like to learn more about the Waldorf school of thought to see if it would help her come out of her shell. does anyone have a spicific site that i may go to and research? many thanks to all who can send info my direction
There are Waldorf School's all over the US and Europe. Google your state or province and the word Waldorf. Chances are there's a school in the next town or even in your own town. From there, you can request information from the school.
wow thats something to think about alixaryon cause i meditate all the time but with music to relieve stress but i meditate to push every thing away, how did you say to use the third eye.. you can email me if you like thanks
I think we do, for reasons as stated above. If we no longer have peace within ourselves, we will never find peace among the masses. Lack of peace means destruction. It may not be essential to maintain our functioning bodies on a daily basis, but for social matters it is as vital as the heart. Be it the sixth chakra, mind's eye, or pineal gland, if we don't have it in some form we will destroy ourselves.
Millenia from now when they dig up our bones to inspect them, they won't know there was a small bit of flesh that may have modulated our sleep and possibly spiritual lives - but they'll surmise that our downfall was a direct result of war. Why were we fighting so much?
im in a yoga class and my teacher always tells us to touch it lightley and pick a color. then she says to invision that color as the energy of the third eye. She says it brings peace so i think we do need it.
There is a specific color associated with that Chakra. If your teacher is telling you to envision a color, than whatever color your picturing is probably more closely associated with it's corresponding chakra further down on the body. The sixth chakra is supposed to be white - the compilation of all colors.
oh well thanx. im new to yoga so i have no idea what is going on in class sometimes. but that makes alot of since. im trying to broaden horizons. thank you
The Third Eye is opened through Meditation, and Spiritual Growth, not a certain physical exercise. It takes llong hours and hard work to get to this point Spiritually.
The THird Eye allows You to see things in other areas of existance, different dimensions, if you would. It heightens Your psychic abilities in other areas, and opens up new abilities.
These abilities will not open unless the person is ready emotionally, mentally, and Spiritually, lest the weilder hurt or destroy themselves, or others.
I do know that acceptance is a big part of it. Accepting whatever may be shown, without panicking because it doesn't fit anything experience wise that you have ever felt before.
There are a great many things to explore in the world, but there are more rewarding things to be explored within yourself
Just found an interesting correlation between the pituitary gland and the pineal gland (considered to be the Third Eye).
The pineal gland produces melatonin, which helps regulate sleep. It's triggered by light and darkness. When it's dark, it produces the melatonin. This is the first step in meditation - closing your eyes and slipping into an almost dreamlike state. Before you fall into a deep sleep however, your pituitary gland, which sits just below the pineal, produces a chemical called Oxytocin - found in large quantities in women who are in active labor, babies who are nursing and the mother's nursing them, all humans during orgasm, and those in the deepest of meditations. It is a chemical that produces a feeling of trust and spiritual oneness.
After all that, the answer to the initial question is the same that everyone else gave. Like any muscle, it needs to be exercised. In order to produce these chemicals at will, one must be well practiced at meditation.
If the "third eye" was not needed, we would not have it. It is the root of all things metaphysical in my opinion. From telekenisis, telepathy, clairvoyance, esoteric practices, vampirism etc.
We are not able to sense without this third eye. The chakra is there for a reason, to keep your mind healthy if you believe in such ideals.
Meditation is a big factor, yes...But it certainly is not needed for balance of the third eye. The sixth sense is gained through proper training, or is gifted to you.
I say keep an open mind, and not take for granted that which you already have.
The 3rd eye when opened, is a mediumnship that helps people to see those who have passed over. Meditation stimulates the 3rd eye. In which if you meditate everyday at the same time....you will be amazed with patience and practice what the 3rd eye will show.
I personally think the Third Eye is necessary for Our advancement. THere are no shortcuts here to be had. Obtaining the different abilities We need can only be had through hard work, meditation, and patience. "In patience shall you obtain your soul" is how it was put by one person. I have never heard it put more plainly before.
Nothing in this life that's worth anything is free. If it is worth having, or doing, then it is worth working for. I have worked hard to get where I am today, as far as Spiritual Advancement goes, and I am proud of the work and effort I have put into this.
I have done things that years ago I would say were impossible. Precog, empathy, healing abilities. All of these things are worth having, and worth working for. THe Third Eye is necessary for this type of advancement, so I would say the Pineal gland, and THird Eye are a necessity for me. Others may speak for themselves.
The third eye is only necessary if you wish to develop any sort of extra senses. If you wish to remain a normal boring human, there is no need for it.
The pineal gland secretes melanin during times of relaxation and visualization. As we are created by electromagnetic energy - and react to EM energy stimuli around us - so does the pineal gland.
When activated, the pineal gland becomes the line of communication with the higher planes. The crown chakra reaches down until its vortex touches the pineal gland. Prana, or pure energy, is received through this energy center in the head. With Practice the vibration level of the astral body is raised, allowing it to separate from the physical.
To activate the 'third eye' and perceive higher dimensions, the pineal gland and the pituitary body must vibrate in unison, which is achieved through meditation and/or relaxation. When a correct relationship is established between personality, operating through the pituitary body, and the soul, operating through the pineal gland, a magnetic field is created. The negative and positive forces interact and become strong enough to create the 'light in the head.' With this 'light in the head' activated, astral projectors can withdraw themselves from the body, carrying the light with them.

The third eye (also known as the inner eye) is a metaphysical and esoteric concept referring in part to the ajna (brow) chakra in certain Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. It is also spoken of as the gate that leads within to inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness. In New Age spirituality, the third eye may alternately symbolize a state of enlightenment or the evocation of mental images having deeply-personal spiritual or psychological significance. The third eye is often associated with visions, clairvoyance, precognition, and out-of-body experiences, and people who have allegedly developed the capacity to use their third eyes are sometimes known as seers.
In Hinduism and Buddhism, the third eye is a symbol of enlightenment (see moksha and nirvana). In the Indian tradition, it is referred to as the jnana-chaksu, the eye of knowledge, which is the seat of the 'teacher inside' or antar-guru. The third eye is the ajna chakra (sixth chakra) also known as brow chakra or brow centre. This is commonly denoted in Indian and East Asian iconography with a dot, eye or mark on the forehead of deities or enlightened beings, such as Shiva, the Buddha, or any number of yogis, sages and bodhisattvas. This symbol is called the "Third Eye" or "Eye of Wisdom", or, in Buddhism, the urna. In Hinduism, it is believed that the opening of Shiva's third eye causes the eventual destruction of the universe. A 3rd eye can represents the minds 3 edge points. Between your two eye's, and a point between the two. Also a "brow centre, ajna chakra (sixth chakra. A Sacred place. The part first developed at birth. Possible A.I. sensor. An Optic nerve and its bodily connections. A kind of thinking sensor. An input/output, also "URL" have you. 3 points of finite planes. Given off the auro. The triangle plane of points. In focused or not focused concentration. A type of meditation. A holy trance. Symbolized as a dot or a mole. Sometimes in the place of a certain headache type. A non-symmetrical. Not centered exactly between the eyes, as perceived. (example: hindu, arab forehead dots) The general parts of the brain are as important, if not more as whole. To assemble, as a natural receiver of many evolution progress's. Can be effected and/or react to frequencies, radiation, etc... But technological progress is unknown in this current juncture. In theory.
Many Hindus wear a tilak between the eyebrows to represent the third eye.
In the Upanishads, a human being is likened to a city with ten gates. Nine gates (eyes, nostrils, ears, mouth, urethra, anus) lead outside to the sensory world. The third eye is the tenth gate and leads to inner realms housing myriad spaces of consciousness

Pandora's information explained it best by saying the pituitary and pineal glands need to work in unison to produce the effects described as the Third Eye. Your two physically visible eyes don't actually percieve things, just as the pineal gland doesn't produce Third Eye visions. It is merely a window through which the brain may view the "other worlds".
Because without it we would be Neanderthals - not looking to the future, but retaining only a knowledge of opportunity. Humans, as a species, are visionaries, not opportunists.
I heard of a small town somewhere in virginia that consisted of a group of people wo had this thrid eye. But the artical I read this was from the Enquirer. I did not think that this was a real topic to even consider
I totally thought that it was for seeing the unseen as in doing things out of the norm, making decisions in favor of the unknown.. basically putting use to the frontal lobe of the brain.
hottubmolly - As in thinking outside the box?
That's pretty much the gist of it, no matter how you break it down.
I don't necessarily agree, I think the Third Eye is just as important as it ever was. We just are evolving more and need to find other ways to use and understand the third eye. The Third Eye is our link to our psychic abilities, the power of our thoughts and an important part of the link in the chain in reaching our higher selves.
So I don't think the third eye is redundant in anyway.
I'm sure meditation does help to slowly open it, but you can't expect something like that to happen in just days. I remember not too long ago I was looking at these images on a website... I can't find it at all now though x_x but those images were two images in one. And as you stare at the image and relax your eyes the image focuses and turns into a single image. It said that those exercises were to help open your Third eye. As the image became one, you were using your third eye. It made sense to me at the time I tried it... I'm not sure if this was true but as I tried it I got dizzy from focusing and my head hurt but it was really interesting...
As for if it's useful, I don't have any idea. It really depends on the person and what you believe in... It's said when it's open it gives you a certain energy... But I don't know too much about it. And my research brought me here.
I hope the link worked...?
wow, lots of information ^_^
thanks for putting thought into this, now i'll share my opinion
the third eye is for sight on the other planes and inner plane/s, it helps you communicate with other spirits and helps you be able to see both inward and outward.
also i think that the more opened the third eye is, the better your perception of everything is.
again, thank you all for your input
In order to activate the third eye, you first must know WHY you want to activate it and WHAT you want to do with that. My suggestion, if you don't know, is to suggest WHY: to become an enlightened, complete, spiritually whole, completely loving being. That, to me, is the most noble and spiritually aware meaning of focusing on 6th chakra or 3rd eye meditation and psychic awareness. Please do not misuse for ill-conceived intent. Remember, karma matters! As for WHAT? I'd suggest focusing on ways to bring more love into the world, through your life. That will be the most powerful way to utilize this energy frequency. Beyond that, WISDOM. When you ask for wisdom, you will be given it. It comes slowly, over time...
I just recently learned about it through a guided meditation c.d about aligning your chakras so I guess it is a chakra too?it also has a color but I don't remember which??
You are proberly right in stating that we dont need it. However as more and more ppl start believing in the supernatural and the unexplained we would go backwards instead of forward. Mankind has come so far since we have started believing in the unexplained and have openned up our minds. If we didnt have or believe in 'third eye' we would be far worse then we are today. We would still perscuit anyone with different ideas or beliefs.
Interesting subject. Most people are unable to activate their third eye and I have tried, but unsuccessful I will keep trying until I do.
very interesting. I use to meditate to relaxing and find peace. But i never have thought about it to be an third eye. Can the third eye be the eye of the soul?
Well, it is also the 6th chakra. We use it a lot in Reiki. You send the symbols there when you are calling in the energy to channel to heal. It's color is Indigo Blue.
The 3rd eye is also one of the seven chakras in our body, if you dismiss the 3rd eye will you dismiss the other 6 chakras for spiritual growth and health?
I think the best answer for you is that we only currently.y use 10% of our brains.. Do we need the other 80% the answer is yes. We just have not evolved enough to use it yet. Think of the current human races and small children just learning to do things. We need all of the physical and mental property's that we posses even if we cant use them all yet.
I believe that the 3ed eye is still usefull, you can see energy correct. but you can see negative energy, which helps in self preservation...you know...keeping bad "Mojo" away? lol..
MistressBloodDiamonds - You've only addressed 90% of the brain in your statement.
The 10% that you were initially talking about is in regards to those parts of your brain which actually fire off thoughts. It would be detrimental to our health to use the entire 100% of our brain all at one time. A great portion of our brain is working, we just aren't using it conciously. Certain glands find their homes in the brain (like the pineal gland, aka Third Eye). It regulates our hormones, neurotransmitters, and involuntary muscle contractions such as the lungs when breathing and heart beats.
If one was able to concentrate the whole of the brain on "opening" the Third Eye to the Ethereal realm, it is conceivable that the person would most likely die in body, but that a concentrated consciousness would remain (i.e. a spirit or ghost).
Wolfsbohne, I agree and disagree..
We do use all of our brain but we dont at the same time .. PLEASE go read some medical studies on the human brain. You will have a better understanding of what I was talking about once you do.
Well, the third eye could be thought of as intuition if nothing else. Like when you can tell if someone is a good person or not just by seeing them and talking to them once.
Therre are exercises and meditations used to awaken, or open the third eye. Its used for intuition .....
People who have a developed third eye have a better chance of survival then, those who do not. They can read auras that may warn of bad intentions.. A person can learn to fake a smile and say the right thing to fool people, but their aurora reveals their true light.
I've never understood or claimed to have knowledge about this. I think it goes along with what an individual believes and desires for their own personal use.
It is my personal belief that the third eye is an important part of our development and psyche that it hasn't run its use by date at all. I think we are developing faster all the time and we use the third eye without realising it.
I know that I have more strong ability to see things that others don't. More often than not I see people as they are on more than just the physical level so I honestly believe the the 3rd eye has a function.
Oh my... So I've heard about the third eye thing and sorts but never really gave it much thought.... I havent been able to meditate.... maybe just have never been shown the proper way to meditate.... what ever the case... I feel that maybe with what things are going on with me and around me that I might try and look into these things....
I have always used the third eye as a focus point for meditation and astral travel
In all actuality I only know of the 'All Seeing Eye of G-d'.
if you want real information on the third eye i would recommend this site. it is produced by yoga masters of the Shivayoga.
http://www.shivayoga.net/literature/shivayoga/shiva-yoga.htm
why would we have it unless we needed it?
We always do not need the eye dear, some times we have things we really don't need or use. Like in a horses ear there is a muscle there that lets them turn it any way they want. We humans have that same muscle we just don't use it.
do we need it anymore?
Yes we do, we will always need the eye, for many things.
anyone know any other techniques or have questions about the third eye?
I can not only see peoples power, and inner selves, but use it for other means, to pull energy from others, also to see if someone is truly who they say they are.
here is another way to open the third eye acordin to a site i have bookmarked dont know if it works or not
http://www.666blacksun.com/Opening_the_ThirdEye.html
I belive the Third eye is essential to our spiritual make up.. it is the part of us that sees the energies and the powers that be of the universe. Without it we are basic humans at the best.
The exercise I have been using to open my third eye is with chakra meditations using a Mandala as well as visualising a eye open, clear and unblinking in the centre of my forehead between my eyebrows.
Most of these posts are referring to the thrid eye as a meditative, spiritual awareness versus a physical manifestation of a sensory organ.
With proper meditation and technique, your third eye can originate from you little left toe. It has no bearing of being located in your head.
according to most spiritual masters the third eye deals with the gland in the center of the brain. through practice of some exercises you can stimulate this gland which will bring about a spiritual revelation and bring the spirit/soul and body together. meditation is just the contemplation or reflexion of a ideology allow it to lead him or her to new ways of thinking and conceiving the world.
I heard of cases where the third eye is said to be used to see auras... Can anyone validate this for me? Has anyone heard of this?
My knowledge of using and developing the third eye.. is thru meditation, it is used to sense things that the physical eyes can not see. How one develops it, i guess depends on what they can sense with it.
Really? Darkicewolf, how did you gain controll over your third eye? Did you have to work at it, or did it just come naturally?
I say we DO need our third eye, and would probably be much more lost without it.
I have one technique for opening it which I don't use anymore but used to. Place a piece of Tektite over your third eye, and that is supposed to help. You could also use crystal quartz, which is easier to find, but possibly not as effective.
However, I just see and feel it opening, and that works for me.
there are books to help develop your Third Eye in any reputable Occult Bookstore.
Interesting, what else does your third eye allow you to do? Besides seeing auras of course...
the third eye is also discussed in the thread about the effect of the full moon. the third eye is often associated with the pineal gland, which in many reptiles is an actual third eye that can see boddy heat of animals. ours is buried deep and under-developed, but is still sensitive to light, and is concernd withthe production of seratonin. it basically makes us want to sleep at night. it is thought that it's dysfunction is the main cause of SAD (seasonal adjustment disorder), and may be why we associate ghost stories with Winter. basically, humans are still meant to hibernate during the winter, and it is the pineal gland that tells us to do this. Do we still need it? i think so. it does not react to artificial light in exactly the same way as natural light. physically, we have not yet evolved to perfectly suit our social environment.
I think we would be better off with a third eye. Open and ready go. Then maybe the world would be a little different.
Takes alot to learn about yourself and lots of focus and practice to use your third eye. Comes easier to some and much harder for others.
Research through books, online, mystical stores with people that can assist you - sometimes actual hands on and working with a person can help.
