I havent done any research that has any credibility (sp) but just in general discussion with friends.... There is a big differance between a kindred soul and a soul mate....
My question is
Who thinks there is a real differance and what is that differance in your opinion.... If there is actual research done cite your source please.

In my opinion there is a difference between the two. A soul mate is someone that is meant for you no matter what in any life at all they are the one for you. A kindred soul is when you have a bond with a person. As a friend or more depending if that person has found their soul mate.

What she said.. a kindred soul could be either male or female that is close to you in thoughts, feelings, hobbies, whatever it may be.. you two are quite a lot alike.

Soul mate is that one person that is like the love of your life, made for each other, the ying and yang of each other.

Kindred spirit in my opinion is someone who you can relate too like a close friend and Soul mate is the person that completes the missing part of you.

I agree with a lot of what's been said.

a kindred soul is like a bestfriend, someone you get along with and shares a lot of your same beliefs and hobbies, interests, etc. someone you might like a lot and without your soulmate can maybe be a lot more then friends.

but a soulmate, that's something else. that was who you were MEANT to be with, you were made for them and they were made for you. that's like your other half. that's true love right there.

both are very nice and special to have but in my opinion there's a HUGE difference.

In my opinion, I think all of us here are kindred souls(spirits), but then I believe a soulmate is people we are drawn to and related to, then the ultimate is the one true twin soul(TWIN FLAME) that is our other half. like the ying and the yang. the one we search for all our lives...over and over again until we at last reunite....but thats just my opinion.

Yes, I know there is a difference between the two. I have met many people in this life that I have known in past lives. But none of them were my soul mate. But I have him now. :)

I would anticipate that many would describe the difference between a soul mate and a kindred soul as a mate being a life partner that is more symbiotic than similiar.

I have a soulmate which has done me no good whatsoever and a kindred which I just found her,I believe in certain aspects they are one in the same,I mean a soulmate is meant for you but then again so is a kindred simply because they are just like you just as a soulmate is,it is really hard to differentiate between the 2,so I say your lucky just to have anything

I've never really liked the idea of "Soul Mates" per se. I think people come into your life for a variety of reasons, some good, some bad, some predestined. I've had a few lovers refer to me as a soul mate, but those relationships didn't last, so while I believe that our souls touched, it wasn't a permanent thing here on Earth. Was I a soul mate for a finite period of time? That's the only explanation I can think of.

Kindred spirits, on the other hand, I think have a bit more staying power. My current husband and I are definitely kindred spirits. So is my best friend and her husband. They are rare, so enjoy them if you have them. =):

People are synchronistic . We have many kindred souls in our lives. I have heard a story of Soul mates aka twiners they are our split apart from long ago and the actual story is quite lovely, the two aren't the same

a kindred soul is someone you knew from the spiritual realm and are now good friends with...someone who may be like you. A soul mate is your other half...if the theory is correct and our souls were split in 2 here on earth than that soul mate would fill up the missing half.

Kindred soul and soul mate are two different things.
Soul mate is the romantic love - everyone has a soul mate out there that would complete them in every way if they chance to meet.
Kindred soul is friendship - someone who will become your best friend and will stand by your side through thick and thin.

I believe that kindred souls are those souls whom you have had past lives with...that for what ever reason your paths are intertwined.... rather you are friends in one life and siblings in the next.... for what ever reason the paths are tied...
Soul mates to me... dont really have to be one you spend your life with. though so many say that the soul mate is the one that they spend their lives with in an intamate loving way.... now adays we have so many social Mores that it makes it hard for us to connect with a soul mate that way. I think we have limited ourselves to bonding and loving and being with our soul mates.... because to me a soul has no gender and has no primal lust and ultimately needs no sexual gratification.... a soul mate i believe is the person who completes you... and you know when that person comes into your life.... you feel it in places you didnt know had feelings.... kindred souls are just like your best friend buddy buddy kinds of souls.... you see them but there is no dramatic effect i suppose for lack of a better term other than a recognition(sp) of that soul.

I believe a Kindred Soul is more of a good friend..You have alot in common..You think alike. But a Soul Mate is the person that we end up spending our life with. The one that completes us and makes us whole.

kikimara, in my opinion said it best. There is a huge difference. One is totally different than the other. Soul Mates are not always the one you think it's going to be.

You can have met many kindred souls in your lifetime. If the true belief and definition of a soul mate is accurate, you will have only one.

I think a kindred soul is a soul of a blood related family member from a past life that you can reconnected with in your new life in a new body at a new time

and I think a soul mate is someone who you were in love with in a past life

a kendred soul to me is your family but your soul mate is the one that you are ment to spend your life with i have found both

I have not seen or heard of any creditable research done on soul mates.

I feel there is only one kind of soul mate but people are free to use different terminology to refer to them.

A soul mate is the one person meant for you, whereas there can/will be many kindered spirits in your life.

I believe as most of you do that kindred souls are people who come into our lives that we have a close connection with in many ways. As one person put it..BFF...and I think it is often confused with soul mates..sometimes when it is someone of the opposite sex it can get confusing...because we may think that we have found a soul mate but instead found a kindred spirit.

A soul mate is someone I believe that you are linked with eternally...I have found that person...we met in a previous life which I did not realize until they had actually had told me about a dream I had several years before in which I had told no one about...I honestly believe that due to this person being able to tell me about it and that they said it was a remembered memory from their past life that it had to be true...how else could they have possibly known my dream? So in reality what I had thought to be a dream turned out to be a remembered past life...so to me a soul mate is eternal.

I would warrant there is a significant difference.
Kindred souls would be those of persons that share many a like views, habits and the sort.
Soul mates would be persons, normally a bond with only two involved, that goes beyond views and habits.

I must agree with IcyRayne. in the beginning of reading this that is not how i felt. i felt the same way most felt that there is a difference. but what IcyRayne said truely made sence to me.

I would say that a kindred soul is one who is most like yourself. Same interests, same thoughts, same methods of doing things. Think of them as your emotional duplicate.

A soul mate would be one whose soul is most compatable with yours. There is a resounding harmony in your thoughts and emotions. Think of the soul mate as one who is the most emotionally compatiable with you.

They are very different. One can be almost anyone and the other can only be one.

A soul mate is the one that you chose prior to being born in your current body as the kindred soul you wish to be at your side through life.

I tend to agree with Heartofthegreywinged. Sometimes your Kindred/Soul mates dont live up to expectations, so caution must be taken in all situations.

I think everyone has about covered it. A soul mate is that one person who is meant for you, while a kindred spirit is someone whom you have a bond with whether it be a bond that has trancended lifetimes or a new bond ... one is romantic, the other is friendship/family

I don't think a kindred soul and a soul mate is the same..A soul mate is someone that you fall in love with..A kindred soul would be more of a best friend.

I have always thought that a soul mate was a person that you were destined to be with, and a kindred soul was just a person that you have a lot in common with but you would only ever be friends.

I think there is a difference that being kindred souls I thought were just people in love but soul mates are people are destined to be together forever. ..no research done I don't think you can research opinion.

soul mate is the other half of you soul, kindred soul is like with me and Noc.goddess, we are kindred souls, we are sisters but not by blood. Mathew and I are soul mates two parts of one.

I agree with darkwolf on this one... kindred is more like someone you connect with whereas a soul mate is the missing part of yourself.

feralmuse you are right, I new Mathew was my soul mate for the fact that I felt whole again. NG is a sister and we both can fill it, so many people mix up the two.

I agree with NocnaMora that the kindred soul to me would be someone that is really close to you and you may have a lot of things in common with and a soul mate would be your lover that was meant for you to be with for life.

True, most are confirming that a kindred spirit/soul is one who is in the same phase as yourself. Same beliefs, same interests, etc.

I truely believe the my wife and I are soul mates. We are are the most compatible with eachother. We know eachothers feelings, we can communicate without speaking, we balence eachother out when one or the other becomes volitile.

I would NOT try and spend the rest of my life with a kindred soul/spirit. This persone would have the same assets as you, but also the same flaws as yourself. Combine the same flaw in two people, you double the flaw and its effect. Yuck.

A friendship could survive this condition, since you would be capable of separating one re-aligning yourself. In a relationship, you don't have this capability. In turn, the relationship would be in turmoil rather than being in a state of balence.

soul mate typically means for life. Kindred means similar.

i see it as different. soulmate meant for life. kindred more for friends.

ok yeah there is a difference in a soul mate and a kindred soul a kindred soul would be like a sister to a sister a soul found another and it was meant to be through thick and thin if one is pinched the other feels it and so on... now a soul mate is a lover and a friend sure it's a meant ot be thing but they feel what you feel on a different level you feel passion with your soulmate with a kindred soul you feel when they hurt and vise versa you know them and they know you inside and out no secrets because the other one already knows what the other does. it is deeper then a soul mate then a belief and so on...

My soulmate and I met (in this life) when I was 14. We are connected in so many ways that it is sometimes scarry.

We can feel one another's emotions and feelings. We can communicate with out words.
We have been together in other lives and will always find our way back to each other. He is the absolute love of my life and my perfect match. we even share the same sign.
We fit together intimately as well...

I have someone here on VR that is a Kindred Spirit. She and I are very similar, we share interests, gifts and our birth sign.
If you are lucky enough to know your soulmate and to be blessed with a kidred spirit in your life you are truly, truly blessed.

I believe they are very different. Like most of the people who have posted. The soul mate is the person you are meant to be with in a romantic sense. Someone who was made to be your other half. Where a kindred spirit can be a friend. I say all my closest friends are my kindred spirits because we are so much alike. I have not met my soul mate yet.

To me it can be summed up quite simply. Kindred souls are "like" mates and soul mates are "life" mates.

I've never heard them referred to as Kindred Souls either... around here it's always been Kindred Spirits. However basically there's a lack of the intensity between the two.

A Soul Mate is someone you have to be with ... or easier yet a Kindred Spirit with a romantic interest.

Soul mate is usually used when one is referring to a bond such as you would have with a family member where as kindred spirit focus more on individuals who share similar thoughts and mindsets but may not be as close or have that “family bond”.

It would seem that most agree that a kindred soul is friendship to a deeper/stronger level and that a soul mate implies romance/love to the most fullest extent and the type of love that could transcend centuries and lives.

I actually think they are one in the same.
