Stonehenge is currently undergoing a new dig at the moment (First excavation since 1964) and the archaeologists have made some very cool findings. Many people including England's druids believe through years of research that the site was used as a healing spa. Has anyone by chance gotten to see the new work being done and while at the site felt a healing power? Or has anyone who has visited the site been able to sense a healing power?
I have been studying up on this and I do believe they used it as a healing spa, whether or not it is correct it is very interesting.

I have not had the chance to visit. However, close friends of mine have and they both reported feeling physically stronger, more vibrant in the area. I've been curious myself if other visitors have ever felt the same. But i've never met anyone else that has visited.
I hadn't heard about the dig before now, thanks for the link to the article :)
I personally think the site should remain undisturbed. The exploitation of such a sacred leyline is uncalled for. It is like digging for a body in a Churchyard after a week of burial...Such desecration should not be done.
This is my opinion and by no means a be all end all answer.
It's not as if the dig is going to cause any lasting damage soulshroude.
Talks have been held to determine what course the dig will take and interested parties have been involved in those talks.
I think it's going to be very exciting, and I'm looking forward to any new information.
Theyarn't harming the stone that we can see... They are scraping TINY fragments ofthe stone, and from beneath the ground level. This isto get a time scale, and to learn more from the mystery. I passed stonehenge last week, and I saw the people at work. Theyare respecting the site immensely. There is more than just the stone, as there are mounds in the earth 100yards away... conected with the stonesite. How they got those stones from Wales baffles the hell out ofme!
Itook some pictures of my passing at stonehendge.
"Stonehenge" I think you mean, not 'hedge'.
I'll be there later this year, looking forward to seeing it and trying to learn about it.
yes stonehenge. that's what happens when you work nights and dont necessarily get enough sleep the day before.
the druids of england worked very closely with the dig in order to preserve the sacredness of it. please post images in portfolios. i would love to see them.
I have to agree with SoulShroud, these places should be respected, and while I get wanting to know- things of the spiritual often do not leave physical items behind.
With healing, any power of earth can be used for healing- it is a simple Taoist idea. Stonehenge may at times been used for healing, but the energy there is what makes it special. This is why disrupting it is an issue, it will take time for the energy to return to how it was- perhaps years.
As for calling it a spa- that is too much of marketing term now. I would say it was a sacred place where all types of rituals were preformed- not a "spa" which implies a level of service.
in modern day, many churches do recieve touch ups in order to perserve their beauty. could you not consider this a similar undertaking? as long as the original order of the site is not undone. removing centuries of dirt build up can not be that bad, could it?
i went there once before i was a psion and really just felt aware
like when the entire world is quiet and all of your senses are straining to find just one thing that they can latch onto.
that's all i felt, i think i was around 12-13
damn interesting thread nescrop, Minx.. put those photo's up, please .. Saharia, I'll concede to everything you said there .. except, this is all part of a process started years ago, to prevent too much deteriation to the stones. so may visit, they're in danger..
when I was younger we went there as well as the Roman ruins/colossiums yet at Stone hedge I did feel power there a strong sense of something yet not sure what it was . I would love to return to it now that I am older and alittle wiser LOL
The Roman Ruins we also a place of ummm, unusual feelings like I felt as if I could feel all the fallen gladiators and slain people there... it was a very intense experience .
Have always wanted to go back since I am older now. I have always found the ancient Historical places and things to be most interesting to experience.
I always found stone henge to be a very interesting piece of work... Unfortunetly when I was in England they weren't letting people over that way... I didn't know they were doing further digging... That's great... I'll have to keep my eyes open for this... Thank you for posting this thread and brining it to everyone's attention!!!
As an "English Druid" I went to visit the henge with my Shaman wife in May.
I can heartily say I was terribly disappointed.
The MASS of tourists completely ruined the experience for me, and I felt nothing but a little uncomfortable at the massive intrussion.
HOWEVER... I also visited wood henge (about 10 minutes drive away), linked with Stonehenge it is believed, and absolutly deserted, not a soul there, and whereas at Stone Henge you can't actually get ANYWHERE near ANYTHING... at wood henge I spent some time meditating right in the centre, examining the relationships of the circles and walking the "Maze Path" I discovered arround the circles.... a most touching experience I will NEVER forget.
It you take a look at an aeriel photograph of the two sites and surrounding area you can't move for falling over mounts, monuments and so forth, the Henge is just one, but the Tourist draw of the henge does a greater good, the money generated allows the other to be preserved, its such a shame it's connection as a sacred site is being lost because of it!
Oh, and on a side note, the Victorians re-built a great deal of the henge and some of the stones were either moved or re-errected in concrete to make them safe! Do not for one moment think the Henge has not already been extensively re-modelled and desecrated!
I was very excited to read about this dig and look forward to the results. I felt something different in that area, even with the distance and the tourists surrounding me. Wonder if the archeologists feel anything, if it increases or decreases over time?
There's another place in the area where you can walk amongst the stones, but I can't remember the name of it.
Anyone know?
Try Wood Henge (used to be wood, but they long since rotted, the post holes are marked by Concrete Posts)
Or Durrington Walls (visible from wood henge) Not alot to see on the ground... but check this out
Link
The wood henge is on the bottom of the picture, and the "walls" are clearly visible as a shadow on the ground, except they are FECKING HUGE! You could fit the entirety of stonehenge in there 25 times or more!
Avebury is another amazing site to visit, the henge surrounds the VILLAGE! (I sat in the pub right in the centre with a nice beer and did a card reading for FelixFelix)
Actually, you can't move for mounds, monnuments, and stuff down south! :-)
I was very intrigued when I heard about the dig. I've always wanted to visit Stonehenge, and hopefully, one day I will.
I can't wait to see what discoveries they make this time around. ;)=
I'm fascinated by Stonehenge -- in fact, i have a miniature 'henge on my desk at work. I even have it aligned correctly with the rays of the rising sun.
I'm anxious to see what they uncover from the dig.
Minx, looking forward to seeing those pictures!
Stonehenge has been such a fascinating subject of speculation and history... no one really knows how and why it was built. Most definitly a place of immense power.
I'm very curious as to what they find in this new dig. I am hoping they are using all of the new electronic ways of seeing inside the earth for what may lie beneath the grass.
i watched a tv show on the history channel about stonehenge and its surronding monuments they said if you stand on one of the mounds at the very center you can see all the outher monuments its interesting to think what the purpose for all of the were actually for. and i do feel like some something so sacred should be left the way it is. but on anouther hand takeing samples and such might infact lead to more answers and then also help to preserve it all the better.. this was a very interesting thread and i will also keep my yes open on the news of the dig since this was the first ive herd about it.
i have watched many shows on history channell..... i have heard the one about the healing spa but also it was some sort of church or something like that .... this is the first i've heard about the dig.... pretty cool
Avebury was the place, Druidic. thank you. Not nearly as strong emanations from there as from Stonehenge.
Wonder why?
Well Avebury has been extensively abused, many of the stones were broken or taken away for building work. While some have been replaced or re-assembled, I get the feeling alot is still missing from the structure.
Plus of course belief plays its part, MILLIONS known about and believe in the power of the Henge, a lot less know about Avebury!
Did you get to see Wood Henge?
Have you been to see the White Horse of Uffingham or Waylands Smithy or Durrington Walls? There are SO many other places then just stone henge!
Aye, I'll be sure to try and take photos and put them up here :)
Seems like I saw the White Horse, but I may be remembering pictures. Wood Henge was not on my list, dammit. Sounds like I should have visited. So many places to experience on my magical mystery tour. To be continued . . .
Druidic is correct, over the years many of the stones have been chipped away at, removed, or just moved around. Can you just imagine how it was at its peak of use and power?
it would indeed be a feeling to behold at the height of power.
i'm glad woodhenge was brought up.. (thank you Druidic)
i would love to visit it. the speculation about what the wooden structures possibly looked like fascinates me... i
i like how Druidic mentioned being able to meditate there easily because the were no crowds.
i hadn't really thought about a crowd disrupting the energy, but i can see how that could happen.
since stonehenge is such a tourist destination i wonder at how powerful it must be to still effect people even though it's now touristy. interesting.
Like Woodhenge, there are other stones throughout the UK that had meanings and led to places of power.
You already have some good input from Brits who live near there.
Levi on VR is also a druid and has visted there. He may have some more insights.
You can visit druidry.org for more information or ask someone to take a peek for you.
I agree with above said, if it is a healing site, it is holy and should not be disturbed with a dig; study it yes, but don't disturb the grounds.
I've never been fortunate enough to visit Stonehenge, but some friends of mine that are in a band were recently in the UK and they got to visit the site. I'll have to ask them if they've sensed any energies there.
Do you have any links to websites that discuss this topic?
I will have to check out woodhenge next time I am in the area. I had heard about it in my research but I was not aware that people could visit there. Thanks for the info! I had read that they thought it might have been a precursor to stonehenge. I am hoping th dating that they are doing with the new dig will clarify the time line better.
Best theory I've seen goes a little like this.
Wood henge and Stone henge date to arround the same time, there is some evidence of a ceremonial path from both to the river Avon.
At wood henge there is also evidence of animals beeing killed and consumed, either in ritual or feasting, or similar.
My belief is when you died you physical temporary remains were transported to woodhenge, again a "temporary" living structure (the wooden posts would need replacing every few years, its a site of constant change).
From their you immortal remains (soul if you will) travels down the ceremonial way to the river, and transported down river to Stone henge where they may then either remain or move on (Imortal permenant structure for your permenant remains)
Its a theory which I like.
On a side note, Durrington walls would be a great place to gather and observe the cermonies taking place with regularily at wood henge.
Spiritually wood henge felt more like a place of life, whereas stone henge felt stagnant to me.
On a further note, I believe the wooden posts formed a spiralling ceremonial way from the entrance to the centre, which I walked, and felt really rather odd!
I encourage ANYONE going to stone henge to ALSO visit woodhenge, litteraly 10 minutes up the road to Durrington Village, and an equally fascinating but much more accessable place!
I have always had this urge to go there and just sit right in the middle of it and meditate. I have had this vision of it being a powerful way to even out my chi. So that is weird that you mention that about it's healing powers.
I don't think that they will ever unravel all its mysteries. There is no way to be sure. If we could time travel back to when it was constructed and see how it was really used, now that would be very interesting. We might find out that it was used for something very different. It's always going to be just a guess, because there is no real way to be sure. That is part of the glory of the place though. it will always be shrouded in mystery.
I thought Stonehenge to be rather uninspiring. Indeed as Druidic said it has been changed and remodelled many times in its history. Not been to woddhenge but if anyone makes the journey all the way to stonehenge then you might as well drive up the road to the Avebury complex which is simply stunning and has a greater variety of works involved in it.
I went there as a early teen and couldn't get too close cause of a bomb scare, but as far as I was I could feel something, not sure what though! I would love to go back to see if I still felt it!
Mix, do you have any links to those images yet? :)
Glad they are doing work on the site again.
I think without the historians taking an active interest in trying to bring back these sites to their original formations or at least removing the dirt covering them up, then trying to figure out how our ancestors lived and used these places. no one would understand the importance of these sites and would not want to keep them around. i can only imagine the amount of sites just like the henge that have disappeared without anyone knowing.
I have been to stonehege and I didn't really feel any healing properties. I wish I had, but it's become some much of a tourist trap that even if the healing energy was there it would probably be undectable because your in such a rushed, cramped area....
I hate to say it... but unless your one of few there... You get more of a vibe from the sheep than the stones
Oh indead, they did appear to be mostg relaxed sheep :-)) That I had forgotten!
Mind you the Cows over by the barrows behind the car park were another story all togther... a little too friendly, and a couple tourists nearly got mown down! :-)
I love history especially period times. I thought I remembered a hx channel special that speculated stonehenge was a either a seasonal calendar or a school for astrology. I am however an bit of an air head and could very well be wrong.
The similarities between Stonehenge and teh circular sanctuary from Sarmizegetusa,Transilvania, make me think that the main purpose of rising this temple was sacred and was based on astronomicat researches. It`s unlikely (but not impossible) that such an architectonic marvel to have the healing purpose.
Despite the different sizes of the buildings, the Sarmizegetusa sanctuary looks very similar at least in the construction plan.As the romanian review Magazin Istoric swowed , this temple was used as a calendar.Maybe a sacred one.
Oh, sorry, the sanctuaries have the same size actually.
:)
there is also a site in Russia that is similar. the stones do correlate to the stars and seasons. it makes me think of a astronomer's lab mixed with a little bit of alchemy and magic.
I never heard that they were digging it up. Thanks for letting me know.
I have never been there, but my family and friends that have all said that they felt better and like every thing was going to be all right when they were there.
in my opinion i don't think it was, as it is said, a healing spa, but maybe a ritualistic place.
That would be rather interesting if it were a healing spring. However, I don't think it should be dug up to find out
man, id love to see it for real in person. However this all sounds pretty intresting. Does anyone have any good sites for learning about it?
All I have heard was it was a healing site. I havent heard anything about a new dig thanks for the insight, I look forward to the findings that come out of it.
maybe.......
or maybe underneath the ground is a pit 2 hell
or a gateway 2 heaven
or a clock
a spa
sacrificial altar
a monument to the god's
a sign for extraterestials
burial ground
i've heard it all.......
maybe it's all of those things or more or less
all i know is it is sacred and must be kept that way
No, but I would love to go. I believe that its on one of the laylines of the earth's energy points. Thats what gives it those healing properties.
Personally I wouldnt mind visiting this site. It has always interested me. It is understandable how some might wish to understand the orgination.. or the power it might hold. Personally I see no problem with this as long as it is done respectfully. Look forward to reading of the findings.
I get dragged to Stonehenge quite often, its not far from here.
I am also very, very close to Glastonbury.
To be honest, its interesting and a mystery how they managed to build it and how it is still standing - but I have never felt any power from its stones
I would think for those people who are into energy work, the stones would be a pretty powerful thing to act as a focus.
You would think that people would take great care of the site. I would think that the original site was much, much bigger before they surrounded it with roads !
They had to in order to make it into a tourist attraction.
I honestly think any money profited from it or other sacred places should go towards preservation.
LOL I would mention that one famous mention in the visitors book does say that they should have built Stonehenge further from the road!
I think the best people to answer the question is the people who work with energy and/or the druids who spent a lot of time there
i think that anytime you mess with a ley line like that, you're calling for trouble. it is a scared place that shouldn't be disturbed.
There are plans to remove the roads, and put a tunnel to the site, returning the area to how it would have been....
Except of course when the site would have been built the area would have been surrounded by woodlands... which they won't re-instate!
oooh this is interesting... I saw a news story on Stonehenge... and it looked current.
Here's a link to the digital dig that started this month;
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/programmes/stonehenge/day5.shtml
Stonehenge; The Healing Stones
As an example of how far reaching Stonehenge is, someone built a model of Stonehenge as tourist trap in western Nebraska using junked automobiles.
