I had a friend once that burned a stuffed animal because she said that she thought that there was a spirit inside of it. My question to you is this: How many of you think that spirits or ghosts can attach themselves to dolls, stuffed animals, ect.

Are you suggesting a inanimate possesion - like Chucky? or a control over inanimate objects like a poltergeist. We know that most paranormal beliefs follow that a spirit can be attached to something they held dear or an item they once owned or perhaps even something that reminded them of something important.

I'm not sure how far I'd take that attachment (all the way to possession of a doll?). But we're dealing with the unknown so I guess it's a bit like binding a demon or spirit. I still wouldn't call it possession since that implies that it now inhabits something that can no longer control itself and a toy never had control over itself.

yes the spirit can be traped to any object,such as dolls...maybe because the soul that is trapped in a doll that might of been a symbolic object for that spirt

I think thye could move the dolls and corupt them with their energy, but not actually become as one with the doll to say.

I don't think spirits can attach themselfves to a stuff animals for the fact that there's nothing attracting them... like an energy.

I don't think a spirit can be in dolls. I think they can attach themselves to it so wherever it goes they go to. But i do believe that the spirit has to have energy to actually possess something.

I've never known of that happening or heard of it, but I don't see why it can't happen.

I not so sure that a doll could be possessed by a spirit, but I have also heard of spirits that stay with certain inanimate items. I'm not sure if its because they had some sort of strong attachment to it while they were living or not. But I have known someone who bought a couch from a friend, that someone had died on. They had all sorts of really weird things happen on or near the couch until they finally gave it away. All the strange activity stopped the minute it went out the door. Ghost, or coincidence?

ooo chucky :) my child hood fear! I've gotten over that and I even own my own collection of chucky dolls, movies, posters and shirts :) but getting back on topic! I don't believe that this is at all possible I think that this was derived from animated puppets being maipulated by pupeteers for intertainment like in walt disney's pinocchio that was the start of the horror in my oppinon a doll comming to life becoming as real as you or I thats where the idea originated I don't think it is anything more then a myth nothing to get in a frinzy about lol :)

Some people believe that inanimate objects can be used to trap/bind demons etc. I don'tl.

However I have known spirit to 'latch' on to a toy etc if it was a favourite of theirs when they were in the body. To move it perhaps to prove they were around.

I very much so beleive that a spirit can be a part of a doll or toy or an object. I have a doll that my great great grand mother gave to me, I spent much time with her in her last year and she had made me this doll when I was born, when she made it she used her own hair to make the dolls hair. I was there for her dying breath... her last words were thank you, take care of her and good bye. I could not look at the doll with out busting into tears. I don't cry very easily but I loved her with every fiber of my being I still do... I hid the doll away and for months forgot about her. I was having a realyy shitty week and one night I had a dream and it was simple. I heard her say again take care of her. I woke and immediatly went to the box where my doll was and pulled her out. As soon as I brought that doll to my chest I felt my Nana's arms around me I felt warmth I heard her say everything will be all right. As psycho as this may sound I held a conversation with that doll the whole night taking every worry off my chest. I heard her talk back. I still talk to that doll. Not always do I get responses anymore, but I still feel her embrace when I hug the doll. I hear her voice every time I look at the big dipper. saying as she always said to me (I live in Alaska and she lived in Ohio) "Look in the big dipper every night, I will always leave kisses and hugs for you and I will look for yours everynight." So yes...

i dont think its possible for a spirit to attach itself to a doll or any thing that is a non living breathing thing.

spirits can attact their selfs to things but not posses things , There is a ritual u can do how ever to posses a doll or stuff animal but u have to be sinere with it and believe in it in order for the power to work

It is very hard for me to accept the concept of a spirit arbitrarily attaching itself to something. I can, however, accept the concept of metaphysical energy attaching itself to objects. I don't really know what else to say about that.

hmm perhaps a doll could house a spirit if someone put it there. Why would one voluntarily wish to be 'put' into a ragdoll, plastic doll, or teddy bear?

Perhaps using one as part of a ceremony would infuse it with some sort of energy for the duration of the spell or for afterwards - like one that represents a certain person for control or protection over that person.

Like has been stated before, I beleive that a spirit can attatch istself to an object, just depending on either how important it was to the person or if it had something to do with thier passing.

i do believe it happens when my boys were younger they seen these these doll that were evil this apartment was empty and they were looking into the window and saw two dolls sitting at a kid's table one turn and smiled with jagged teeth it scared them they were about 11 yrs old but where we lived in petersburg il really haunted place

I think it would be hard for a spirit to bind itself to a doll, since the doll has/had no control over itself.

I have a very old porcelain doll that I had gotten at a yard sale. I know that she is not a normal doll. Anytime anyone dose anything to harm or make fun of her, some thing bad happens to that person.

If you believe they can attach tehmselves to a house or an area, whey couldn't they attach themselves to a doll? Although I believe it would have to be a doll that was of utmost importance to them when they were alive. I don't believe spirits randomly attach themselves to things, and it may not even be spirits, it may just be an energy imprint.

I believe it could happen. A human spirit would probably want to possess a doll that looks more human rather than a box or bottle to communicate with the living world.

I don't know about spirits attaching themselves to objects. But I do know and believe that our possessions absorb our aura or energies and basically become charged. And when it gets handed on to someone else that energy doesn't change until the new owner energy takes over sort of thing.

It is why I can't handle hand me downs or accept objects or clothing from someone else lol it gives me the heebie jeebies!

I think it is possible if the spirit was attached to the object in life. Such as a doll or teddy bear for a child spirit. Maybe it feels familiar or safe for the spirit.

my dad bought me vietmeise dolls they were pretty till they moved i was 9 years old and they wanted me dead i decapitated all dolls i owned and trow them in the trash and started my collection of skulls they were more comforting

The whole idea just freaks me out (as I look over my shoulder) lol. But I think it may be possible considering voodoo or hoodoo. There is actually a place on E-bay where you can buy "haunted dolls" believe it or not.

There was a practice once in the past where a doll's hair was made of the actual hair of its owner. Sort of eerie to think that when they die, they leave a part of them behind in the doll.

I believe that if an object such as a doll or stuffed animal ment a lot to the person while they were living they may not want to leave this world and attach themselves to that object. A lot of spirits don't k now they are dead so are trapped in "limbo".

I believe they can, does everyone remember the doll cricket she talked....well my cousin had one and one night as we were sitting there with the doll in the room her eyes started moving, following us. I mean seriously following us, we got scared and hide her in a closet. The next day my cousin took her out and put her in the trash.

Again to me the difference is the difference between being bonded or attached to something and possession which implies a host consciousness.

Ade brought up an interesting point with voodoo. When a houngan forces a persons spirit into an item like a doll or locket, is that item possessed by the spirit or is it more like a cage trapping the spirit. When an alter or statue gains entrance from a voodoo god or saint, is that item possessed or merely occupied.

I saw a story on some show for the paranormal.
That a museum somewhere in Europe has a marrionette that this man made fo his wife because she loved the story of Pinnochio.

She also cherished the doll so much she spent most of her time with it.
After a while she put it in oak box and put it in the closet because her and her husband were trying to get pregnant and she was spending most of her time preparing for a child and etc.

Anyways it got jealous and would slap her when her husband wasn't around or lock her in closets and rooms then sit in front of them or stand in front of them.

Her husband would come home and find her hysterical and locked up. And the doll in front of the door.

After awhile it started happening to him and her.

So they locked it in a china cabinet so ppl could admire it and this seemed to stop it.

Then the museum somehow got ahold of it and the story.

They also said it turns it head and follows guests in the museum w/ it's eyes.

They have also said it will lock staff and custodians in places and stand in front of the door.

It has also been reported to laugh and sing. I think it's name is either Paul or Luchero. If any one knows this story correct me if I'm wrong. (about the name)

I believe that, me and Lost Kitten lived together for awhile and our house was haunted. Our keys would come up missing, we had a specific spot we always put them. It was on the bar in our kitchen which was the first room you would enter into our house. But they always got moved...then we even saw the lady who haunts that house.

Ok...yes I believe from previous experience that dolls or things like that can have that bond with the dead.

I've read that Native Americans were able to trap spirits in dolls, same said for Druids (in their case, stone statues), again within ancient Egypt -- do I believe? Actually, sprits ARE energy... Excess energy allows them a degree of strength to, for example, move objects, possess living creatures, etc.

I'd have to agree with the Dutchess. They are basically pure paranormal energy. Which is why they're usually able to be picked up by ghost hunters.

Dolls would scare me to death if they had something in them. Stuff animals would be ok, I think there might be something in them, maybe not a true ghost nor spirit more or less, a copy of the beloved.

Well, spells may be cast on dolls within the voodoun practices, why not spirits? Who is to say that its not a spirit that makes said spells work within said dolls?

personally i dont believe it is possible because once a soul dies and passes to Hades it can return to it doesnt work

There are faiths that believe so.
The Amish (though not so much now) won't make there children's dolls or any dolls have faces. They beleive that if teh doll has a face it is given a spirit or a soul

I believe that a spirit can attatch itself to anything... whether it be a particular place, item, or person. Just like an entity can cause the place it inhabits to seem 'alive', in theory it could also do so to the object it is attatched to.

That doesn't mean that the doll itself is the entity, but if the spirit has a particular fondness towards it, a lot of its energy could be focused upon it, causing it to seem 'possessed'.

Sorry Singularity, the reason that I think that it need muscles to move but in a house I believe that the whole home ( or a room on the house) is a little bit different than a single doll.

I don't see any reason why a spirit would jump into a doll..unless it just wants to scare the living crap out of someone. But I must admit..I'v thrown dolls away because I didn't like the way they were looking at me. Some dolls can be really creepy.

Because its possible it would be able to control it in the way of a doll.
