One of the many mysteries and greatist question, what is out there in space and beyound?
I think theres some other spieces, maybe even another planet like this one parallel universe!
I honestly do not know but it would be cool if there were other life forms out there. And with the way things go sometimes I would not doubt it if there was.
You have two of these up. heheh. I know we are not alone. There has to be other beings out there on there world living their lifestyle as we do ours. They might have greater technology than us or don't. I know some do.
thinking outside the box... I like to think what is not out there. What elements that bind us to here are not out there and then out there is farther then we could imagine.. vast expanses of what we can reach once we depart here. I would not seek a peek at that mystery even if the quest would bare proof, The journey to the end where it begins is out there.
Yeah i know it likes doing that to me. Well yeah, i think they would have greater technologies because i think they would have been round longer than the humans, and there probably not detroying their world like us!
Ok dabber, i kind of get what your saying. but if you dont think, dont you feel alone? in this vast expance of space, time, or whatever. it makes me feel tiny like a pin head.
I do think that we are not alone. The possibility of us being alone scares me. Why should we be the only ones in this universe?
But the other options scare me too. What if what is out there is void of all humanity and will not be coming in peace once they decide to pay us a visit?
We have to take that chance. maybe im wrong in saying but its very unlikly that they will come for a cup of tea in our life time so yeah, but theres definatly something out there.
I hope that we are not alone too...being alone would be scary. How could we be all alone? There must be someone out there somewhere.
We would flatter ourselves if we truely think we are alone in all space.
I am a shot in a million, that a spark existed between to unlikely elements in such a vaste micro universe to bring conciousness and soul to gether to be present in such a vaste sphere with others just as unique as me, there is much more here .. on Terra that is unstudyed, I leave the greater picture to metaphor, I did not sit uin the womb peeking out at where I wasn't. I enjoyed the comfort of that stage, I look only so far ahead, and people that claim to see farther then others.. well I feel they stumble those that are assured without such claimed phenomena. There is already so much we know, do we need to constrict everything to jumping through hoops and flattering our imaginations? I don't what is here is here, what comes next.. well that will be perhaps greater then we could imagine.
I believe there has to be something out there just because of the vastness of the universe.
Im just curious. And yes i know curiousity did kill the cat, that is prooved. would it not be so exciting to see or hear, maybe even learn?
To what purpose? So you can say it is no longer a mystery, Would you peek at the end of a movie and then if you wouldn't would you even what to sit next to someone that says "I know how the movie ends, here comes a twist." So how long after you are enlightned do you think it will take until you fixtate on a new viewless hoizon, which by the way once you uncover will most likely disregard the previous exposer as not so revalating as you had hoped, more mystery to follow..after the veil is lifted to the magicians cabint they taer down the walls as well. I tell people how buildings are haunted and they still ask if the ghost activate the rigs.. so much for seeking to solve anything they only seek proof that they are right in their invested belief.
Well yeah in a way your right, how long will it take to lose intrest.and for me i dont know. and i would be looking at the info gathered for, well, untill i die. But in my opinion there is an infinate amount of wisdom to learn, what im saying is it could be for the greater good, ie the cure for cancer and some of the big killers. would that not benifit us as a race?
This life would be such a boring life if there were no more mysteries left to solve.
I believe that the Universe is containing many different life forms, similar to ours, and those wich are different, reflecting in many different ways of life, and goals.
very well said.
to the post above yes it would be boring if there were no more mysteries. but in my eyes there will always be mysteries.
Well what mysteries would there be left?
Aliens? check
Vampires? check
paranormal? check
what women really want? check
Once all those are figured out, I'm not sure there is much else to figure out left. We're just going to have to create new mysteries.
Mysteries to ponder If we solve them then we will only find greater mysteries then the ones we "solved". putting the greater myseries that we have solved still needs to be done before we stack other stuff on top of what we are just learning, no body wants to follow up on revalations of solutions. So if we solve everything ..
out there ..imagining untilwe are stumped is bliss in its self. but to be so dogmatic over possibilities for something that we except as a mystery is mystery for the sake of claiming we have a "inside knowledge of a mysterious thing.. " There fore inserting our selves in part into the mystery equation.. Well I am a part of the mystery I am here and the moment I figure it out I will go with it and try not to ruin it for those that follow.
Indeed. there are mysteries with mysteries themselves, but its facinating to think.
to invest more then imagination is to invest your own limits. We place imagination below opinion and too many people are dismissed because they only image without fixing opinion that requires astonishing support. If there are limitless possibilty then to be narrow and subscribe to ones own possibility or the possibilty of another, well if I imagine greater things their assurance enough for me in that ,opinions are argued as set. If the mystery is so limited then I will not be surprised in the least.
I honestly believe that we are not alone, I have heard stories from my dad who was in the military and has talked to people who went to rosewell. So I know we are not alone, as for seeing something in person myself....when I was younger I saw a UFO, believe me or not I know I saw it. So I can not say that we are the only species out there.
In a way this has somthing to do with this but bontries are supposed to be broken, i push them and i will push till i die, mysteries are supposed to be solved!
Do you want to believe yourself, or do you want others to believe that you believe.. ? Are you trying to Fortifiy your imagined expectancy or are you trying to base your beliefs on a unseen un touchable physical sign, and what is to say that when you do witness such things that your doubt will go away, and that even if it is filmed on primetime live others will still say it is likely a hoax, why, because so many hoaxes have been created that we are saturated with them. We can make movies know if you went to the 1600s with a projector they would only be amazed artthe machine, they already had projection back then. yet if those in that era saw a projection they would not know it was so.
theres a lot of strange things on this plant but we just dont dont know whats out there
I wouldnt do it for the glory or fame i would do it for me, for own clarification, im sure people would believe that it is a hoax as would i. If anyone else was doing it. I do not believe in god, i cannot grasp the concept of a greater being! but i do believe there is something out there.
I dont know if there is a parallel universe out there, but I am sure there are other life forms out in space. Why would we be the only life form that exists. I think where the life forms exist is just to far for our technology to get to
I have no idea what's out there....I wonder if 'they' are thinking or writing on a forum like this...maybe asking the exact same question ?
That would be interesting if we could get our internet crossed and actually talk to them
So we're additionally asuming that they have fingers and keyboards and that they can read what we type on the net? :)
What evers "out there" better stay the hell away from me. This planet is hard enough as it is.
I think there is "something" not sure just what that is but it seems there are plenty of theories to support such an idea. I don't know if I find it exciting or frightening.
Space is too vast for us to be the only living beings. We may just be looking for life the wrong way.
I think there is somthing else out there what? i dont know but with all the planets we cant be alone.
your right the universe is to big just for ONE planet with life
im pretty sure we´re not alone... we shouldnt be... i think we couldnt be that presumptuous... it´s important to know that as we exist, there must be other species or races more advanced and less advanced than us... we´re in a constant evolution... as the universe is... so i think it´s logical to think that part of that evolution is the species as well...
I think the possibilities are endless, hell, the universe may never end, or maybe it does...Who knows.
I'm 99% sure there are other life forms out there that we can't even imagine...I mean, why wouldn't there be?
I think there is lots of planets like this one, just silly to think that we are alone in this huge universe. There are more beyond this one.
I am a firm believe that there is another intelligent species out there somewhere. The Drake equation supports this idea. While a lot of the numbers in the Drake equation are speculative, with even the most modest numbers plugged into the equation it says that the Universe is teeming with life.
A good way to put things in perspective is to know that there are more stars in the universe than there are grains of sand on the entire planet. One of these stars must support intelligent life. It would be a mathematical anomaly if this wasn't the case.
Correction, I meant to say that one of the planets surrounding one of these stars must suport life.
Well I like to think there is something else out there in the universe, but it seems kind of unlikely when you think about. There are just so many things that allowed this planet to support life; the sun had to be EXACTLY this far away from a heat source, there had to be EXACTLY this amount of usable water, there had to be EXACTLY this amount of oxygen, etc. It's amazing that earth alone just happened to have all the right conditions for life. And to me it seems unlikely that another planet out there would just happen to have the right conditions as well. But, then again, maybe the conditions for life somewhere else differ from ours.
I believe that there are many universes with many planets that can support life such as this one. I don't think we'll ever get to know anything about them in this life time. Perhaps thousands of years from now.
The sad part is these other planets could already have the answers for curing some of our problems. Things like cancer and other illnesses. plus many more things that plague us
That is a good point, but if we were to run into a civilization that has already eradicated disease it might be highly plausible that we would infect them. Thats a good reason for them to keep their distance if you ask me.
There is definitely other forms of life out in the beyond. I mean...I definitely believe we didn't get where we are because of our own intelligence. I'm sure there's been plenty of help along the way...and that there could be a number of them among us now.
i think the possabilites are endless as far as what else is out there weather it be in our world or in outer space their endless
I have a hard time believing we are alone. Everything living in this world is so complex and even now some things still have our scientists baffled. Our brains alone is powerful and is a magnificent construction. We live in such a huge galaxy and most of us aren't really too sure just how close perhaps another planet with beings on it could be. There could well be more than one world, more than 2, within our very own galaxy, and no telling just what lies in the galaxies beyond. :)
Well there are 100,000,000,000 galaxies with around 100,000,000,000 stars in each, and probably around 500,000,000 planets per galaxy so the odds are rather good.
I would bet money that there are some simple forms of life crawling around out there somewhere but detecting it is going to be all but impossible. Right now we focus on detecting organic compounds, and while those are very important they don't mean life. A volcano can erupt followed by a thunderstorm with lots of lighting..your going to get a lot of those compounds :) So looking for green goo isn't the most efficient way.
The question of are there more human-like creatures in the universe, is, one of numbers. Even if there was an alien race on the other side of our galaxy who had the same technology we do. And could send out massive amounts of radio waves it would still take them 100,000 years to reach us. Not to mention the fact that radio-waves get absorbed after just a few light-years due to dust and EM interference.
What about "higher life forms"? A humanoid race that is only 5,000yrs. more advanced than we are, would have technologies beyond our ability to understand. Even if we got a "Hello" from "Vegas Prime" we'd have little chance of getting a clue and would more than likely think of it as some quantum poop.
I think the universe is filled with life ,but human life makes up, is only a small part of it is and we can only extend so far beyond the confines of our little star. Most aliens are nothing more than single celled protozoa.
And the advanced ones either live so far away (the Univ. is around 156bill. ly across) that it doesn't matter. And of the ones which may be nearby, they could have been studding us or the gravitational changes our satellites recently experienced could have been them building a new quantum entanglement nexis bar "Where the Universe goes to get drunk"
I know that we are not alone, the question is "What are we going to do about it?"
Considering the size and scope of the universe, to believe that we are the only planet with any form of life is completely absurd.
There has to be somehting out there. . . if not then that is only more proof that thier is a God. if we truely are the only ones out there then maybe there might be a God . . .
I dont believe we are alone there is a varse space out there and my belief is there is other life forms of some sort whether they look like us or not I wouldnt know.
I dont think there is a god. reasons being is there is no real proove, just some crazy story that some drunk probaby made up and held a population at gun point! there is no way one mystical being could create such a vast scape of matter. Also i agree the other side to this would be that technically there is no proove of aliens, execpt what is in th so called area 51 - roswell. We're not supposed to know about this, because it is a government test area. its shouded in conspriacy!
I think it's kinda arrogant for Humans to believe that we are the only living beings that exist in the vast space that is the universe.
I believe that there are others beings somewhere out there.
Where? I have no idea but I'd find it rather a waste of space if there wasn't
I totally agree, they have found traces of plant life on Mars (I think it was Mars) if any form of life whether it be plant, virus, bacteria etc can survive in space who are we to say we are alone.
I belive it exists life on other places in space. we cant be alone.
I hope there are loads of other different life forms out in this great big universe,it would be terrible to think we were the only life to exist out there.
I believe that there has to be something out there but as to the what and where I have no idea. As I think that if we as a human race exits why cant something else in this universe exit
it really boogles the mind to know what is possibly out there.
Well we just landed on mars for 90 days of experiments to the soil looking to see if any life could have been there. We will see what kind of data we get from there
There is definitely something else out there. The universe is too huge for there to be nothing at all.
Anyone who says that we are alone really are ignorant lol
i think there is def. something out there..
whether its transformable or no.. you never know it can be right in front of us and we not know it...
it would be awsome if a time came to comunicate with them
I think it would be quite silly to really believe that we are the only living things out there.
Easy answer. Everything that is not here. Space and the universe are beyond human imagining. There are answers out there to questions we'll never even think to ask in our collective lifetimes.
Thats true. They've got a probe on mars, and its in the polar regions, maybe with their theory of life that once was, maybe they could prove it! But somewhere there is definatly something out there.
People ask me if there exists intelligent life on other planets. I'm still looking for intelligent life on this planet.
Joking aside, I'm not sure what's out there, but if there is something or someone, they don't want us to know it.
No thats true, some people just arnt intelligent! its not a joke. you could probably find more intellegents in a cats arse! excuse the graphicness!
Dr. Jay said it well So we have a Virus type or protozoa type life form on another planet.. what of it.. ? Are we any better off because of it, can we just sit back now and let our planet go to pieces.. are you giving these "visitors" the power of Technological Saviors? Or of Redemers?
I do get the feeling that people the cling to the visitable life forms from out there are taking a factor like Drakes and then piggy backing their imaginations on it to argue for gray invaders/saviors, No better of then
organized religions. As a matter of fact many so called Alien translaters
"channelers" use scripter from the bible replacing key phrases with alien or craft ar names of their design. Yes I can imagine that something or someone else is out their but you seem to want me and others to just package the visiting thing as just as likely, I do not eat pits in fruit artificial or real, I believe spits exist but I will not accept peoples claims to actually phycicaly communicate with them.
I will not believe or accept that aliens zip around in the skies. Yes it is a mystery to you .. because you want to be able to say your mystery was solved, people create hoaxes so that they can invest your imagination and keep you at their level of expectancy, I am suspisious of anybody that would do such a thing.
Why take a possibility and pulp it to Sci-Fi. Every body wants sensational probabilities to be found true so they can say .. see I told you so.. well that had its hay day and it has and will contuniu to be exposed as the hoax they are. Something out their yes a lot of people with a sensational possibility that arouse from a thin streatch of imagination. So if you do not attatch the "vistor factor" I can see that you are adressing Drakes and that is something intirerly different, and commonly hijacked for the fringe purpose.. to sell suckers books of fiction claiming academic credibility... are you smarter then those that buy such Sci Fi Plagerism..?
I am i dont want to say i told you so at all far from it most likly i am wrong in all of this. i would just like to say t my self and not anyone else unless they wanted to know and then i would not force it upon them or write books or make movies. far from it, i would not do it for the money but for science!
Something out there .. probable.. something out there that bee bops around other planetary systems unlikely. A fine example of half measure stretch reasoning, it is not enough for some to take the core possibility, and push the envelope with embelishing claims.
I think that there has to be something out there. We can't be the only intelligent, so to speak, life in the universe. What they are? I have no idea. I don't like to name things I don't know, makes me dissapointed when I do know what it is.
Why would it be unlikely though? How can you, without a reasonable doubt, say that there is no life form out there that might have the means to travel from one planet to another.
i believe there is life outside of the earth. we have scientific evidence of life on other planets(mars) even though it is not intelligent.
It has to do with applicable reasoning, why would I want to. I find the potential for such things as an existence out side of our own (isolated just like us) to be sufficient, those that would take that fact Farther Out, It just seems to be a self important thing they will never be able to prove. After a while such people really confuse people that find simpler none sensational things sufficent for them, the astonishment that those that want others to others to respond to their claims with is unreasonable. Why do the challenge the disbelief of others, I accept that there is a possebilty that there are others out their, but that is not enough they need one more person so that when they are challenged for there unsupported claims they can be fortified with , the fact that one person who doubted was "won over". No I will not coddle to the fringe.
trepidation would you dismiss the people on this planet you have yet to meet? Would you learn a foriegn language and travel to another country? we all would yet if we are shy it is a fact that we must overcome our shyness. we are not alone on this planet far from it. If you are waiting for communications from a far away planet you may continue to miss the more relavant possibility to meet someone from this present distance..
Christians Made God, so that they wouldn't feel alone then for awhile they killed others to assure that those that followed their god or converts would be the only ones around them. Cults rely on that Lonely Feeling. I do not feel lonely, I am surrounded by unknown entities, I could turn around in this coffee shop and meet an alien body.
There is something out there but to put it to words would be near impossible.
In infinite space/time and dimensions anything is possible and therefore everything might be out there...somewhere.
I think there are things out there that we don't know exists. So yeah, there definetly SOMETHING out there.
The fact that we are made up of many of the molecules the make up a star.. leads me to believe that life no matter what form it might take is abundant through out the universe..
I think you said it very well, Kontradiction.
Areas of the Universe ARE older than other parts of the Universe, so it is a reasonable assumption to think that IF there are other life forms, they very well could be further evolved than ourselves. Which would mean that they indeed could have developed technology that would take them farther and deeper into space than where we have been able to reach, thus far.
Yes. I do believe that there is other life beyond earth. I also think it is a POSSIBILITY that some of that life out there have been able to reach earth. However, I do not attach "god-like" power to the possibility of alien life, nor do I believe because of an idea of loneliness. Nor do I see the possibility of alien life form as "Redeemers" or "Saviors", either. I just find it extremely interesting as well as exciting to theorize on the idea of other life in our Universe; how different from us are they, what would life look like from their perspectives, how much are we the same, etc..
Also, wanting to know, as someone else said, has nothing to do with wanting to be able to say, "I told you so.". Or anything to do with fame, money, etc. It would simply be for my own personal growth, knowledge, and perspective. It's also not about changing someone else's mind. People who refuse to think beyond the narrow scape of their own personal boundaries, or people who are simply too ignorant of the possibilities that this universe has, cannot have their minds changed. Even if they were confronted with absolute visual evidence sitting on their front lawn, I'd be highly surprised if they would accept, heh.

now you are calling those who do not believe ignorant and narrow minded.. I call you over imaginative.. and easily impressed upon.. I mean get creative..
If it was just you believing then yea no problem believe what you want but I will be damned if I am going to be called ignorant by some idealistic fringe cult follower.. such a revealing thing that last paragraph.
I am not against your blief that life exist out there, but why the urgency for me to jump on and believe that we are visited by aliens? If you have no agenda then jump off me lack of belief. and relize that until the aliens do land here, you have D**k to prove what you think.
dabbler, I didn't realise that Alienes were the only life forms that could possibly exist out in the wide spaces of the universe.
It is rather narrow minded and ignorant of people to just totaly dismiss the idea of being life out there based on the fact that you believe that when people talk of other forms of life, you automatically assume the term Aliens.
I'm sure there are those like myself who don't belive that there are little green men flying around out there, but infact others beings such as ourselves, plants and so on.
You can say that there hasn't been sufficient proof of that being so until the cows come home, but there isn't any proof that such things don't exist either.
ok Drakes Thing I am down with I am not off thread in that... it is the visiting thing .. to much suggest that the whole thing is originated from Buck Rogers so actually I do have proof where the claim comes from, the arguement, you cannot prove something does not exist is not valid to me, if you said that in court, you cannot prove my client didn't kill this person.. is laughable really, the burden is on you to disprove that all the claims are based on something other then what a critical thinking person can see as evidence of origin other then what is claimed. So every exposed hoax is easily disregarded by "believers" with the "Oh not all claims are Hoaxes" well then another is exposed and still another, then the people that are exposed attepmt to discredit those that exposed them, and these people still have people believing and buying thier Bull. Now what does that say about people that believe beyond a possible chance that life exist beyond us(a fact I am assured is likely) and the embelished claim that they are here among us.. you cannot appease people in anyway with half belief churches are divided on how to do the sacrment, well I will not have my settled core beliefs insulted by sensational
claims. People that are happy with excepting such simple science backed theary as Drake and Hawking are belittle and made to think they are not worthy to see aliens here when everybody else claims they should big woop for all the alien nuts . I'll take mine at a distance. Oh and if aliens do exist let them speak for themselves, I mean some Astronomy Camp Reject, is that really a guy you want to be affiliated with? Think motive in claims and narrow down your sources and I will hear the support for your claim, I have no proof that aliens don't exist, but I have plenty of false claims to prove that it is a nut job inclusive trade. That will resort to calling people ignorant and narrow minded for not blindly following an imagined claim.
My point is that even if a person had proof that aliens existed .. and that they where here on the planet, they would right after seeing them make more outrageous claims to start yet another fringe group all made up of people that lack the ability to think critically or even ask what is so significant about aliens being found on the planet? Why is it so important that I "as you say, stop being ignorant" and except what you fail to make a case for(except for hearsay and testimony from people with marketing and commercial interest. I wonder if it has something to do with stenght and assurance from numbers. as a person hears from people that don't believe they need two people that convert or share their claims and beliefs, that is called falsity of assurance through perceived group acceptance. It seems that the same people that don't subscribe to the aliens are atheist as well., how convinent that most that claim aliens exist here on earth use altered scripture in their "text".
Dabbler
Fisrt of all, You too would not be able to prove that life doesn't exist out there in a court of law either as you have no "hard" evidence to support your theory like myself, so I'd check my facts about the court room before I go throwing that into a debate if I was you.
secondly, I never once said or stated that what I believed to be out there were infact Aliens.
What I am suggesting is that there is other forms of L.I.F.E, not the beings that were made popular Star Trek and so on because as I said, I never said I believed there were.
I merely used that as an exapmle as to how blatently dismissive you were being toward the though of life being out there. LIFE FORMS, last time I checked did not mean Aliens.
Not my argument, I am refering to the Drake case that statistically there could be a system out there that could sustain life. I am with the thread on that, an assurance that is plenty for my sci-fi imagination I can easily absorb the opinion (supported with theory) that life exist out there, yet when someone trumps my acceptance of that by attaching the claim that the aliens are here and that what ever they claim them to be are here.. no I am not on that fringe, I will stay back here with the likely possibility as a firm foundation, you would think a person would notice the common denominator of people that claim to be in the kno about aliens here on earth, that and the fact that they have yet to provide any independant evidadence and when pressed for evidence convently claim government cover-ups,, I suggest Why People Believe Weird Things, I also Recommend a book on Critical thinking.
I believe there's something out there. Probably a lot of things. But after reading so many H. P., Lovecraft stories I have to say that I'm kind of glad we're not so aware of everything that there is. We're lucky that if there are such things that, they haven't found us or find us to small to bother with. I think they's already most likely something here though. Hiding among us... maybe figuring out our weaknesses. Who knows...
Dabbler
First of all, I don't think that believing in a possibility makes anyone over imaginative or easily impressed upon. It's just math and reasonable assumption. It is mathematically possible that there is life on other planets. If you understood anything about science, this wouldn't be such a shocker, I would think.
Also, it doesn't make someone a "cult follower" or a "fringe groupie" to believe in the possibility, again, of life on other planets. It simply makes sense that there would be, considering how vast this universe is. Considering how many stars, like our Sun, Sol, there are in this universe. Consider. That is the key word, here. To simply consider the possibilities.
As for the terms - alien, life forms, "grays" as you have called them, etc.. it's all just semantics. Life outside of earth, that is all that it is.
And I am not claiming I've seen or believe in little alien green men running amok on the planet, I am just saying I believe that there is a strong possibility of life existing beyond earth. That there could be a possibility that this life may have come to earth at some point. I am not stating this to change your mind. I honestly don't care what you believe. I don't know you and it doesn't matter to me. However, I enjoy reading these threads, and occasionally on subjects I feel interested in, I add my two cents and I feel my opinion is just as valid as anyone else's. That is all there is to it. No one is trying to convince you, turn you into a scifi writer, make you a part of a cult, or force you into any fringe group. Seriously. It's just opinions we have here. Sure, some are more reasonable, and some are not, and that's up to each person reading to decide. But all in all, it means nothing beyond the sharing or debating of opinion.
Lastly, my last paragraph was to express why I believe what I believe since you seem to think those particular factors play a role in people who believe there might be OR could be life on other planets. That was simply a disclaimer based on what you have written in these various space-related threads regarding why you seem to think people believe such. I wanted to get it across that is not why I believe or why I am curious about life beyond earth. In fact, I am just as curious about life beyond earth as I am about life ON earth. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, dabbler, and there is nothing wrong with being curious or believing that there are possibilities in everything, everywhere around us.
Dabbler, I would love to go to other countries and meet other people, learn there laguage and learn from there culture. Ive always wanted to travel. Ive met many people before, many real people. Ive been to South Africa and met some wicked people and cube, there was a wicked cuban sucurity gaurd, id meet up with him and chat to him. Im not saying i want to meet aliens or other forms of life i would just like to put my curiousity to rest. and if it doesnt happen i havent lost anything because i do not dwell on it.
I am understanding and I do see the possibility as supported by empirical science that life can and does exist in a form greater then imaginable yet exist all the same, what gets me is the people that take this soundly to expand upon their embelished claims of visitors to our corner of the cosmos, I thought I was clear on that, Calling someone unenlightened because they choose not to accept a secondary claim to attached to something the accept, well I will pass on that enlightenment thank you , because I see it as a Deer in the Head Lights. Suggested Reading Dragons Egg by- Robert Forward I have believed in the existence of life beyond our known system for sometime, back before it was fad. Yet the fringe I mention are the ones That are crack pots that insist that they are "so enlightened" that the aliens chose them over all of the people on this planet to reveal them selfs to, that is the base for a cult every time, this shows why some people are less likely to consider life on other outer plants, they don't want to be considered grouped in belief with such exaggerating claims that come with it. When I mention that I believe in life out their people automatically assume that I accept the notion that they have visited.. no I won't because people that want to accept that life is out there have assured settlement with as is common agreements, I question people that claim enlightenment over others .
This is beginning to feel like an atheist verses believer argument. It is human nature to want to believe in something... But, that doesn't mean there is nothing to believe..
It is just more likely that with all of the vast galaxies in the universe.. it is more likely that live exists,,, beyond our earthly existence.

Well, I haven't seen a post yet on this thread where anyone has claimed enlightenment over another based on what they think, feel, or opine about. If anything, it would seem that you feel that you are enlightened because of what your opinions are.
All that I said was, I believe in possibilities. The possibility that there could be life outside of earth as well as the possibility that if there is life outside of earth, that life could have possibly found earth, at some point. Or may find earth at some point.
Possibility. It's a simple word with an easy to understand definition.
And to believe in these possibilities does not associate one with all of these "groups" that you keep expounding upon. You have called me enough names because of what I think and/or have opinions on (you may perhaps want to be a bit more civil and polite or cease in labeling me, as well as calling me names - this type of behavior doesn't usually get anyone too far, especially in a debate) - all I have done is make a sincere, generalized opinion as to why perhaps some people disbelieve in the possibility of life outside of earth, because honestly, I can't understand why someone would think otherwise and these aforementioned factors are the only reasons I can quickly come up with as to why someone couldn't or wouldn't consider the possibilities. Even if it's just micro-organisms, there is a strong possibility that life will eventually be discovered.
With that said, it seems that only narrow vision, or ignorance could be the reasons as to why someone couldn't even accept a possibility that is as realistic as the possibility that life could exist outside of our planet.
No. You're not very clear, and in fact, I, unfortunately, have to muddle through your spelling, grammar, and lack of punctuation to try to even kind of make sense of what you're saying. However, if the English language is not your original language, this is understandable.
Earth is very young in the unviverse, there are so many galaxies in space that we will never explore, or even see, to beileve we are the only intellegent life in the universe would be very close minded.
Over and over you acuss me of saying I don't believe in life outside the known universe or out there.. are we clear.. that that is not an issue I agree with the majority of this thread from the get go.. and here is what I adress
"All that I said was, I believe in possibilities. The possibility that there could be life outside of earth as well as the possibility that if there is life outside of earth, that life could have possibly found earth, at some point. Or may find earth at some point." Too fringe! Now you say again I don't see how people are "so ignorant that they can't except possibilities.. ? Are you really so lack of critical thinking? Really?
"People who refuse to think beyond the narrow scape of their own personal boundaries, or people who are simply too ignorant of the possibilities that this universe has, cannot have their minds changed. Even if they were confronted with absolute visual evidence sitting on their front lawn, I'd be highly surprised if they would accept, heh."
So because you choose to except something possible that has only been exposed as hoax so far.. makes you more complex then those of us that chose to not suspend our critical thinking , or those that to like those that chose to except that so far it is all hoax? So keep buying hoaxes that is your right I could care less if aliens where here on this planet this thread is is there something out there and that is astonishing and assurance for me.. doesn't it suck to have to kkep up with all the twist in claims?
I'm not really sure, but what I do want to know is how it all started! According to christian belief, God was behind it all, but there's one hole in that: who created God? Life had to start somewhere.
oh the universe is so huge i don't think we will ever have it charted out.and yes i believe there is life out there and not as little green men
i think there has to be some sort of higher power out there and maybe some other intelligent life forms out in space somewhere.
Besides other lifeforms somewheres else, could it be possible for lifeforms to be in space as well?
well without sounding like a complete dork. . ifyou have ever watched a show called Stargate, or seen the movie. . . a lot that was in that show i beleive in, i don't beleive in everything the show has, but what it brings to the table of possabilites is amazing and makes me a believer
Kudos Vespers, your posts are a breath of fresh air.
Now it seems that no matter how many times people try to speak of other FORMS OF LIFE existing elsewhere in the universe, It automatically goes back certain people making the assumption that they are talking about Aliens and sci-fi characters and hoaxes.
I don't think I came across a serious post in this thread claiming that little green men with 4 eyes are running rampant out in space, so how can one generalise others like that because they don't agree with their points, points that seem to change as each day passes in my own opinion.
Ok wading in on this debate.
To me thinking that life doesn't exist on other planets is small minded thinking.
How can in all the vast universe that has billions of galaxies and within each galaxy millions of star systems and solar systems.. this itty bitty planet is the only one with life... please!
People are too busy with the idea of Hollywoods idea of alien life which it uses to scare audiences.
There are other forms of life. Bacteria, animal, plant... they don't have to be walking talking technology minded creatures or life forms. There is life out there in the universe it is stupid to believe otherwise.
Stargate was good. I definately believe there are other lifeforms out there besides from ourselves, I think it'd be a bit ignorant not to
yeah stargate was good. but people are allowed their own fews so if they believe theres nothing out there then thats fine, i dont think their ignorant.
Thank you, xMitsix, I truly appreciate that.
Dabbler-
Firstly, (considering that you have opened up to the possibility of life beyond earth) believing that there could be (and again, with this word) a possibility that life, outside of earth, could have or may someday find earth, is not fringe. You fall back too quickly on the idea of hoaxes, fringes, and cult groups which seemingly keeps your mind rigid, and unable to accept any form of possibility. Rather than doing so, maybe you ought to find yourself a new argument you can use when you're not debating with someone that is simply speaking about ideas and possibilities.
I could see that if I were claiming to have seen little green men from mars and that these little green men told me the vast secrets of the universe so I could write a book on it and use it as a foundation for a New World Order that I would be on the "fringe" as you like to call it. However, I am not. All that I am saying is there may be or could someday be, a possibility that other life forms (here we go again) could have or may someday find earth. I do not know. Nor do you. Which is why it is good to be open to the possibilities.
Now, again, possibilities are not hoaxes. Hoaxes are a fabrication that has tricked other people into believing that something has occurred. A possibility, dear Dabbler, cannot be a hoax, since it's something that has not happened. Do you understand the meaning of the word possibility? Am I not clear?
Now regarding that statement that you copy and pasted; I already explained that. I shouldn't have to again, however, I will copy and paste the explanation of that statement to you. Perhaps rereading it might help you to better understand.
"..all I have done is make a sincere, generalized opinion as to why perhaps some people disbelieve in the possibility of life outside of earth, because honestly, I can't understand why someone would think otherwise and these aforementioned factors are the only reasons I can quickly come up with as to why someone couldn't or wouldn't consider the possibilities."
Lastly, do you understand what critical thinking is? I tend to think you do not based on what you have written here, and other various space-themed threads. Critical thinking, dabbler, is a life long endeavor. It's a way of thinking that one must practice daily. In fact, dabbler, one of the first constitutive abilities in critical thinking is to be open-minded and mindful of alternatives. No one person can be a critical thinker through and through, on every subject, and when encountered with any one idea. Which, again, is why it is a life long endeavor. Perhaps you may want to read up on critical thinking if you're going to be throwing that term around as often as you do. It's good to understand the words and terms we use when communicating to and with others.
Here is a web site that simply explains the concepts behind critical thinking-http://www.criticalthinking.com/articles.html
I hope that this helps you.
Very well put, thats why i asked 'what do you think is out there' in other words your opinion, plain and simple. Im not dismissing the case that there is, there may well possibly be nothing at all. but in the vast amont of space, nothing is not an option, there has to be something. Be it the smallest bactiria or a gigantic monster, i dont know.
I definitely think there is at least something out there in the vast space of the universe.
To me, it seems a tad narcissistic to think that humans are the only intelligent beings in this universe or any other.
Yeah it does, we arent even that intelligent, well most of us anyway. haha
LoL well, you are correct in that statement. I mean as individuals we are intelligent (most anyhow..LoL)
But as a society and a species, we are not all that intelligent; if we were, we wouldn't be destroying our planet like we do; and we probably wouldn't go to war like we do.
After all, how many other species do we see fighting with each other over money, power, land, etc.?
Who are we to say that we are the "supreme being"? There could be something out there that surpasses us.
Animals do, well for land and power but its in there nature.
