Divination

Divination is seen as both an art and a science. Divination is defined as the act of connecting to the "Divine" or what some call God or Goddess, to get specific information, guidance or answers to specific questions. Divination often involves different tools, which we will get into in a moment, and tools are not required. The main requirements for divination are; a) a belief in the Divine, and b) your brain. Some things that are noteworthy about divination are as follows:

Divination is often thought to be able to allow people to tell the future. This is NOT the truth. What IS the truth is that divination can give one some possibilities as to what the future likely holds, provided that a person stays on the same path, headed in the same direction that they currently are. There are many who claim to be able to "see" the future. We believe very strongly that the future can not be "seen" because it has not yet happened. The future is determined by the actions and decisions of the present. You can and do change your future at any time.

My quiestion is, do you do any divinations, if so, what do you use, and why. And please explain. TY

Some call what I do divination, but it is more metaphoric construction, as a story teller I "read peoples story" usually using arranged cues, for example.. asking some one.. If you where a habitable structure what structure would you be.. I then use their answer to do a simuliar thing to divination, by interpiting the answer.

I dont do divination often but when i do i use a pendulum, The reason I use that tool and not, say, a scrying mirror is simply because the pendulum works the best for me, i have tried a "crystal ball"
(it wasnt crystal) and did not really get anything out of it. So since i connect best with a pendulum that is the tool of choice for me.

To clarify the question .. I ask people a base question to initiate a metaphoric story, custom made to the person that picks something that they associate with in a metaphoric way.. example What type of habitable structure would you be ? Then with a few follow questions for details I do a 'reading'.

This is my "divination" Metaphoric scrolling.. So you went with a natural dependent structure.. a unique one .. very strong in the inner child.. entertaining your inner child plays a large part in your relations to others as well as yourself. You like people to look back to the fun years.. and get off the ground.. you are likely to be comfortable without a foundation that is defined, such as the setting of a fort in a tree. you place a lot in the role of nature in your life.. you like to see others close to nature as well when they visit you you like a small gathering as opposed to a large party..

I've tried using tarot cards and crystals, I Ching and runes, and while I've had some degree of success with all except crystals (better for healing), I always prefer the pendulum.

The pendulum I have is made out of an old glass keyring I was given years ago, and a bit of thread, but it's more accurate than any expensive one I could buy, purely because I constructed it myself, purified it, tuned it and used it so often.

With it I've foretold driving test results, genders of unborn children, found lost items and I also use it for communicating with spirits.

Like you Robyn I don't believe that divination is about telling the future.

Just possible opportunities that will come to the one being read for.

I started off reluctantly reading tea-leaves and was quite shocked when the information I was getting became more accurate as time went by.

I sometimes use cards, but to be honest I seem to have lost interest in pretty well all forms of divination.

When a consciousness is connected to a “divine” being, you are accessing a heightened state of consciousness/awareness? The channelling of information which is past from one consciousness to another without the use of tools? (With the exception of the vessel, if you wish to classify it as such).

Scientists have argued that consciousness is formed via chemical reactions within the brain, this I can relate to, as it is a theory I have mused on. If your brain is working at optimum capacity then chemicals within the synapses are constantly stimulated allowing connections to be made at a heightened state, (ripple effect; which could go on to explaining the predication of future events, dependant on ones own perception of relativity).
If the vector/vessel is not working at optimum capacity (lack of drive), then the reactions will be fewer, allowing a more moderate level of processing, and lesser connections being utilised.

So from one perspective divination is nothing more than establishing a good network facilitator and ensuring your network path has plenty of mast locations so to speak.

I do read tarot...it is not a future outcome, but a path that may give us a idea of the question we have. We can all change our course.

In whatever divination we use I believe it is a Higher Power using us as a conductor.

Well i have a friend who practice it tho i dont know the exact type he often looks into the future trying to tell me things that will happend which some has happend and its crazzy and why he practices it is to be able to as he says live longer by knowing whats going to happen ahead of time.

Personally I use a mixture of things from special stones, palmstry, special cards (not Tarot), water(s) and other similar objects.

Although I use objects, rites etc. it is only for the benifit of the person(s) involved. I don't need anything to help me find what some may call "Divine information."
From disccusing the events of 9/11 days before it happened to helping someone choose the right path to make a near perfect life, I have always relied on innate abilities.

ive got a problem with that whole art and science bit.

im sure you already know where this is going, dont you?

im not even going to claim whether or not divination works that is irrelivant.

what i find to be relevant is the word science in the same paragraph as divine and as a noun no less! divine as an adjective is permissable.

ok my problem is as thusly: you said that beleiving is a requirement. and the only way to prove that you have every right to beleive is through what, DIVINATION? thats like a paradox of non-science.

sort of like measuring the legnth of a ruler using a nail clipping. it is jsut that absurd and backwards to me! tell me im overreacting. send me a message as that is preffered. k thanks.

Sure Robin :)

It is my firm belief (backed by observation) that everyone has the ability to find knowledge that was unknown to them, at the time, using the power of thought.

The accuracy and ability varies by person and level of understanding.

A strong case can be scientifically made that consciousness effects reality and the physical nature of the universe. Being that all things are made from types of quantum fields (which includes thought) and that they are all connected via something called "entanglement" it is highly plausable that thought can gather unknown information.

I know my answer kinda goes into a different direction than the spirit of the topic but I assure you innate abilities (abilities which are present from birth) exist in all of us. It's just a matter of "tapping" into it.

I agree. Also a friend of mine told me that Tarot Cards only show a very small part of our future and once I have read that through Palmistry one doesn't read the future but understands why certain things happen.

I used to use Tarot Cards, Pendulium and dice, the most acurate one for me was Tarot Cards.

Many say that what hapepns is because we get affected by the reading, I used to forget my Readings, until stuff used to happen.

Nowadays I prefer to trust dream symbols and my intuition.

I used to be a professional psychic online too and that worked doing it over the net. I use pendelum method but still not sure if it's telling me the truth on stuff.

I agree with Xzavier regarding innate abilities. The physicist Pauli was said to constantly sabotage his colleagues work simply by "observing it". (side note: he did this for fun). He believed that consciousness was a physical thing. Along that thought, yes, we should be able to "access" future sight.

Personally, because I can't access the future through thought - or rather because I've chosen to go another route - I'm studying Medieval Astrology. Medieval Astrologers and Alchemists believe that the human (microcosm) reflects the activity of the Universe (macrocosm). In predicting the macrocosm's events and future (or promises) it becomes possible to predict human events and future.

i think divination plays on two parts one being a kind of magnetic energy that is used by the person perfoming this divination depending on the tool and then that person with that tool coonection with the energy of the earths energy in building a bridge of currents of say positive and negatives to establish a wave length that gives the final outcome i also believe ley lines have a great deal to do with some divinations as well
and of course with all this to work correctly one must have a certain kind of faith along with it.

i personally have used a pendalim but i was reluctant to come to any conclusions that were satisfying,so i am still openminded on this topic.

I don't often get to practice divination, but my preferred method is Tarot. I started studying Tarot a few years ago, when my mom gave me a book on the subject. I found that I liked the way the cards layed out, and how they felt in my hands, almost like I could feel the power they had flowing thru me.
I haven't tried scrying or runes yet, and I hope to start studying those forms soon!

If a person is "shallow" and very routine, any form of divination is usually can be very "accurate" not much challenge for the person that is doing the divination, even if they are a "stranger" to the sitter, now a more abstract person, a person with perceveived depth, some one who
fancies themselves, mysterios, yet is still shallow in a common agreed manner, will more likely be swept by a readers abitlity "to crack" their perceived mystic world. A person that is objective and involved in interaction with others, one that seeks engaging communication may be entertained at the things that stand out in their life, considering the novelty and entertainment value, as well as the ice breaker quality of the reader.. such a person is likely to seek an associate to do the reading, usually in a social setting so my question is, who would like to volunteer for some of our in house readers to do a social reading?

I would welcome anyone.. if it is okey with Robin, to pick apart the Metaphoric reading I did for her.

Psychologist Julian Jaynes categorized divination according to the following four types:

Omens and omen texts. "The most primitive, clumsy, but enduring method...is the simple recording of sequences of unusual or important events." (1976:236) Chinese history offers scrupulously documented occurrences of strange births, the tracking of natural phenomena, and other data. Chinese governmental planning relied on this method of forecasting for long-range strategy. It is not unreasonable to assume that modern scientific inquiry began with this kind of divination; Joseph Needham's work considered this very idea.
Sortilege (cleromancy). This consists of the casting of lots, or sortes, whether with sticks, stones, bones, beans, coins, or some other item. Modern playing cards and board games developed from this type of divination.
Augury. Divination that ranks a set of given possibilities. It can be qualitative (such as shapes, proximities, etc.): for example, dowsing (a form of rhabdomancy) developed from this type of divination. The Romans in classical times used Etruscan methods of augury such as hepatoscopy (actually a form of extispicy). Haruspices examined the livers of sacrificed animals.
Spontaneous. An unconstrained form of divination, free from any particular medium, and actually a generalization of all types of divination. The answer comes from whatever object the diviner happens to see or hear. Some religions use a form of bibliomancy: they ask a question, riffle the pages of their holy book, and take as their answer the first passage their eyes light upon. Other forms of spontaneous divination include reading auras and New Age methods of Feng Shui such as "intuitive" and Fuzion

I have tried many things. Tarot cards, a pendulum, runes, all of which i have yielded mixed results with. I mostly use some fortune telling cards my father gave me when I was 8. He bought them when he was in his twenties and a practising pagan, and when i began to express interest in paganism he thought i might find them of interest. Generally they are pretty good.

Being Wiccan, I have several methods that I find useful to me for divination. I have a gemstone pendulum, tarot deck, and runes. My favorite method would have to be the tarot. I also study astrology and palmistry. I recently began exploring other methods such as scrying with a cauldron of water and cloud divination.

I tried casting runes once upon a time... even went through the trouble of creating my own from natural materials found in the forest.

They snapped clean in two in less than a day.

yea that tends to be the problem, you have to choose carfully which wood you use, and the thickness for it, the ones i use for casting or stone, the ones i have for decloration, which im in the middle of making, are oak.

Aah this is the bliss subject...

I do believe in divinity and it starts from meditation coz in meditation we do have stillness which the flying birds do have underneath

yes in saying it is very easy but doing and getting that level need good exercise of meditation

to me divination is to attain the God by surrendering our nature in the nature of universe and the union with the nature of he universe

say we do in ease start love and merging with the elements while our centerfocal point is that supreme soul in stressless and strainless and ease...

by this he give us back the bliss through the elements and energy of light side....

divinity is light feeling of the lighter side its conscious is very lighter side... its not strange conscious its the conscious of guardian angels and not of ghosts and vampyres.

"Aah this is the bliss subject...

"I do believe in divinity and it starts from meditation coz in meditation we do have stillness which the flying birds do have underneath"

----Interesting symbolism, meditation to me, is the stillness of the mind, removing any negitive impacting thoughts and energies.

"yes in saying it is very easy but doing and getting that level need good exercise of meditation"

----Meditation is simple, sit down, lay down, take deep breaths, as long as you are relaxing, you are in concept, meditating.

"to me divination is to attain the God by surrendering our nature in the nature of universe and the union with the nature of he universe"

---Divination in concept is the connection between man and the divine, which ever you may call this divine figure it your choice.

"say we do in ease start love and merging with the elements while our centerfocal point is that supreme soul in stressless and strainless and ease...

by this he give us back the bliss through the elements and energy of light side...."

--Divination like all magic is not subject to any one type of energy, lets say you wish to find somebody so you can do ill things to them, not exactly 'lightside'.

"divinity is light feeling of the lighter side its conscious is very lighter side... its not strange conscious its the conscious of guardian angels and not of ghosts and vampyres."

--Divination can in ways be done through spiritual means, speaking to past family members for incite is in a way divination, it is not limited to who wants to do it, saying a vampire can not communicate with a divine figure is a under-educated thought in my opinon.

I myself use Runes.
Though I do not call it diviniation. I firmly believe that it is a guidance to possible outcomes.

No one's future is set in stone so to speak, we make choices every day that change what could be in the future.

"I myself use Runes."

-Which type?

"Though I do not call it divination. I firmly believe that it is a guidance to possible outcomes."

-As do I in a way, view it as guidance from either The Norns or great Odin. However it is still well known as divination.

"No one's future is set in stone so to speak, we make choices every day that change what could be in the future. "

-The concept of "wyrd" or fate, your fate is, in the end, what you wish it to be, will you listen to the advice given to you by the divine? Or, will you continue down your own path?
