There was so many good replys to the last thread i would like to continue it.

Again i would like to post it once more. And see what every one's thoughts of things are.

I've have always been intrigued by the werewolf. Lately I have been reading up on aparent sightings and news stories about the species and have read some pretty facinating and freaky stuff, but what i'm realy interested in is what others think of them. Do you think they're myth or legend, and whether you believe in the ancient curse of the lycan and whether you believe that things DO go bump in the night. If you would like to share your insight on sightings, historical stories and modern stories, or other info, please do.

I would love to know everything about them.

Well I have not had any sightings yet, I do believe it is posssible that they are out there and do exist.

Nope. Never seen one, or heard of any sightings remotely similiar to werewolves. I dont think I believe in them, I wouldnt rule it out, but there is the disease were a man is covered head to toe in hair & I think thats were the legends come from...

That is one place it could of came from of course. :)

Its funny when someone doesnt look for any signs when they're taking a break or just enjoying there day.. thats when they show or the signs come present to them.

I don't necessarily believe that the people can mutate into wolves or werewolves, but I do believe people can have some of the characteristics of wolves such as the excess body hair caused by hypertrichosis. I have never seen a werewolf or heard of any sightings that could be valid, and not a hoax. I have heard of a mental disorder in which people actually think they're becoming wolves, I believe it's called lycanthrope or lycanthropy I am not really sure.

I've never actually seen the real deal, but I have seen people who were covered with hair,as mentioned above. They had a special on TV about it. It does make you wonder. They might be descendants of Were Wolves. Who knows for sure.

Hypertrichosis: Which is the growth of excessive body hair, which was actually named Werewolf Syndrome. There is a family that lives in Mexico and they have been on the news and several shows talking about the disease that they have . It is a genetic disease, most of the family has it. It has affected male and females in the family and they are born with it.

Morbidcuriousity - You forget the famous side-show oddity, JoJo the Dog Faced boy. He suffered from it as well.

Yeah it seems to be a rare disease. But you dont see much about it really. OR at least I haven't.

That's because it's not as big a thing anymore. It's been discovered what caused it -- and since side-shows don't really exist anymore theres no hype about it.

I think it is terrible to put someone in a freak show just because they are different. Or is the world one big freak show?

Like traits of vampires has points that some have gifts of vampires, good healing, slower ageing, or looks like younger then what they are lol. Some drink blood some don't. ect. ect. lol

What traits would one have that would make one more the human side of a werewolf?

I know people who would say that they have wolf-like attributes and if this is the case that is as far as I see a true "lycan" existing. I do not believe in true life man -to-wolf transformation.

Ok, so Robin, after you asked for traits that people posess that are similar to those of a werewolf I looked it up on wikipedia. And it said that they could be identified in their human form by a their low set ears, swinging strides, curved fingernails, and both eyerbrows meet at the bridge of their nose. So maybe those are all traits certain humans could have in common with a werewolf. Here is a link to that section of the article.

I believe in the myth of werewolves and that possibly some other time and or place they did exist but I don't believe they exist today, only in books and movies.

I do not believe that ppl are werewolves according to Hollywood but can possess certain characteristics of an animal. Does that make us something else...not human in a sense but part wild animal..or is it just a part of evolution that has escaped these individuals?

honestly i dont think the "movie" version of werewolves exist but there are animals called werewolves actually around me... oh well thats my opinon...

Alright ~Robin~, I have one for you. Not sure if it measures up to the the lupin you want but here goes...

One night whilst walking the streets of the French Quarter, New Olreans...My home, we came across about 5 stray dogs. They were about as big as German Shephards, but they had glowing yellow eyes. We of course thought they belonged to a pack of wolves that lived near the area, but that soon changed when we realized there are no wolves in or near New Orleans.

Then it came to us, the idea that the lupin, shapeshifter or whathaveyou have been known to venture the streets of the Quarter from time to time. After all, the Quarter is always crawling with individuals of whom always claim to be this or that. They paid us no mind, just simply trotted onward. Yes, they were as black as midnight if you did not figure that out.

No, they were definitally not Loupe Garou as I explained in your last thread, but...There was something amiss about this pack of dogs. You know that almighty feeling of awkwardness you get around certain individuals...Anywho.

I've never had any experiences with werewolves, but as in any other unexplained creature, there is always a chance that it may truly exist.

I believe that there could be "werewolves" but I am not so sure about someone being able to Shape shift into one I believe that they are significantly larger than regular wolves and more aggressive. Maybe they only come out at night, but I am not sure about the shape shifting or transforming whatever you want to call it.

I've been reading a lot of fantasy stories about werewolves, and they say something about the pineal gland causing the body to become "fluid", changing shape because of some excretion. What I found funny about this is the pineal gland excretes DMT. It's a hallucinogen. It can't make you transform. Physically, the storybook lycanthropy/therianthropy is impossible. Wolves have many admirable qualities, many of which we can identify with --- i.e. loyalty. Heirarchies of leadership. Protecting the young. Intelligence, stealth, cunning, and curiousity --- all reasons there were pagan wolf cults, and why we embrace werewolf myths today.

Also the outsider, endangered and feared aspects cannot be overlooked. And the utter helplessness of the victim to resist the lure of the full moon.

I have never had a sighting and as far as I have read the last known sighting in the state I live was many many years ago.

i think werewolves are quite real i just think there is not that many of them and the ones that are in existance live in secluded places..i never hear much of them of sightings in the states so i think that maybe more of them exist elsewhere.

Two of my good friends are werewolves.
Not the big, hairy, monstrous kind that everyone seems to be talking about though.

It's actually pretty cool, especially being what I am, to be so close to them.

ok, i have, when i was younger sen something that i could only describe as a were wolf, the scariest thing i have ever seen, believe it or not, i know i do, also out of curiosity, is there a history of lycans before the underworld movies?

Lycan is just a term developed by the makers of underworld.

I dont believe for a minute there are Wherewolves..of any kind.Although I do know there are many who do have a wolfy personality.

I personally don't think they exist. I don't know. Even though I believe vampyres exist, not lycans. I guess I think that becaue we're not so extreme and the legend of the lycan goes. I just don't find any possibility that a human can morph into a wolf-like creature.

I don't do other people's work for them.

It's based off of the term for werewolves, or the case of werewolves: Lycanthropy.

That wouldn't be doing others work for them, that would be providing proof for the information which you said.

Well I don't believe that werewolves can change from human to werewolf at all... That would be physically painful and above that someone would notice because you would be naked after you changed back.

Well the the shape shifting that most talk about i think is one of the soul.

Well most humans think vampires don't exhist so who's to say they don't exhist.

the life style of a vampire is a sure thing. so i am sure there is people that believe they are werewolves

Well I did have a couple friends that called themselves Lycans. Even spoke a certain language but have I actually seen a big tall furry werewolf...no. Of course being a Lycanthrope just means to be a shape-shifter i believe.

well even Shamans are in a spiritual sense shape-shifters. perhaps it's the same way for those whom call themselves lycanthropes who's ties are more to the wolf spirits.

Many beliefs do surround this myth, much like vampires the writtten history of werewolfs is scarce to say, only tales or lore have been established in books and movies. "the beast of Bray road" so our own thoughts of their existence is our beliefs. Hope to find more on this subject.

Some truly believe that there are werewolves. I really do not know what to believe. I guess i will believe it when i see it for myself.

As one of the other posts mentioned, there is a defect that makes a person grow excessive hair, so in that respect they have earned the name werewolf. But I'd also like to point out that not all werewolves are the large masculine terrorizing beasts in books and movies of today.

In ancient times, there were different beliefs world wide, some centered in Romania and even in France, that there are humans with wolf-like abilities. These people are desendent of the one person who, as an infant, drank from a mother wolf as she was nursing her own cubs. This gave the person the wolfish abilities, including the ability to take the shape of a normal wolf (not the movie's version of werewolf, but a simple wolf). Those who have descended from this person carry on the abilities they received genetically.

I have never seen or heard of any sighting here in ny or else where i do think that was already been stated about the body hair is where the legends could have came from as well

Seeing doesn't necessarily have to lead to believing. Do you believe in God? I've never seen him either.

If they do exist, I would just imagine them being another interesting species of this planet. There is a lot of this planet that is still undiscovered and spy satelites can't really do any good on that front, lol. :)

Robin, your theory of the shape shifting soul sounds very possible. In fact, I look at it in a similar way. I am less inclined to believe that some physically shape-shift, but my mind is always open to new possibilities. There may be some physical attributes of the person who is a werewolf. Ex., excess hair, changing eye color with mood. But nonetheless, I am almost certain that it all has to do with the soul.

There's a whole, other world out there. If you know where to look for it.

I think I'm going to take a seat back and watch this thread more intently. Listen for those stories. (Hopefully we'll get some more). I don't have any really good stories of my own.

there are historical Cases of werewolves. When a human ts too much raw red meat they grew hair all over there bodies and there nails become clawlike. THe reason for this is the over abundance of protien in the system. There was a case of this in the UK about a hundred years ago. And there was a family doing this and living in a cave.

there are people out there that think they are wolf like so of course they are going to think they are werewolves.. I mean there are vampires after all.

I believe in werewolves, they are out there in the wilderness, but I do not believe in the horror stories people say, Just like vampires people have some horror stories . My neighbour had attacks , would pee himself and faint , and stuff like that , and it was in his backyard that i saw that creature , but i was so young , that me and my friends continued playing like it never happened...

I believe they only exist in movies. There are people out there they think they are a werewolve but that is thier personal opinion

Those with the disease really look like a werewolf. Their faces & hands are covered. What is bad is no one will hire them for fear their customers would not like them. Especially those in the service field (hotels, restaurants hospitals.) "Do not want it touching me/my food." So side shows are all they got.

yeah i saw a documentary on myth and legend and they went into this disease ! and traced back one guys family history and i went back to victorian times and there was documented evidence of a previous family member who had the disease! so people thought he was a beast ! and hunted him down! so that could of been a werewolf falicy

I certainly do believe that this could be a possibility. Native Americans had very strong beliefs in shapeshifting. Because of my belief in magic, I have to believe that shapeshifting is possible. Now whether it would appear the way people think of a werewolf I doubt. I think the shapeshift would be that of an actual wolf rather than an upright walking half man, half wolf. The werewolf is my favorite monster and I would love to believe that they do or have existed at some point.
