People that seek to be close to their loved ones are scammed Mediums, Fortune Tellers, Metaphysical Healers, they are all over on-line.. yet every time an alert is raised of fraud, an element comes out of the wood work, declaring the practice legit. My question is two part.
One, Where are those that claim to be legit when these thieves "practice", why won't they teach others what is real (by demonstration, and definition)?
Two, What abuse have you witnessed from fraud? A friend, or family member bilked by a medium. Please share your stories.
Have you noticed a person that claims to be something like a medium
cheat?
My mate lives with his sister and her boyfriend. They befriended a psychic whom they had invited over for a Thanksgiving dinner. She freely told them their future and things of their past.
Everything she said so far had come true for him, his sister, and her boyfriend.
She also told my mate that we would birth a child together. x_X
I have not. For those who I know must go through rigid test to prove to a committee that their is life after death.
Of 10 applicants 2 has gotten in.
But then there are people who use to come to one medium I know and ask if they should feed the stray cat.
People forget...we have our own free will to change our course in our path.
I haven't personally met anyone that had been bilked out of their money by a psychic. But, I have heard of people gettting ripped off tho.
I have wanted to meet up with a psychic, but there are so many out there, that you have no idea who to trust or believe.
If you are looking for a psychic/medium to meet, you should go see:Lisa Williams. By far she has been the most believeable medium/psychic.
I have not personally met anyone that has been scammed by a medium. I have heard different stories of people that have.
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/781345/funny_psychic_medium_sylvia_brown_fraud_exposed/
How do those that Defend medium practice respond to those exposed as frauds? What should a person expect from a real Psychic?
i dont know much about fraudulent psychics but i do believe if someone is truly psychic they will know information not revealed to them before, and are in it for the benefit of others not themselves
My cousin in New York was emotionally exploited by a woman who claimed to be a medium. This woman had my cousin in tears and got paid for it never the less. I was furious when I got the call from my cousin .
I really believe that mediums who give misinformation can cause damage to a person that is not reverisble.
Have you ever read about cold reading? There have been cases of people using private investigators, to get back ground searches on "Target" Clients (wealthy) a volunteer to service form is all it takes to engage a private detective, some companies will no longer respond to such people seeking back ground searches with such forms.
Here is one of One hundred thousand hits on fraud that I googled.
What separates a fraud from a "legit" practicer, please show me one published and followed up on case. I want details, I know that stuff is personal, and so called phshics do as well, they count on it, show me one just one case that was solved by a so called phscic detective.. I can give you many that claimed to solve cases that have been exposed..
http://www.csicop.org/si/9907/news.html#scam
I think it would be a very good idea for a "legit" psychic to instruct people on what to expect when dealing with a fraud.
I have never had an experience with dealing with a fraud, or any other "psychic" and neither has any one that I know, but I do believe that these things can cause emotional harm. Some people go to psychics for closure, to be able to talk to a lost loved one, one last time...to look for answers, and if the psychic is a fake and just basically lies through it all but is convincing enough they're still going to get paid, and after that psychic is exposed as a fraud then someone who had been to that psychic and supposedly made contact with a lost loved one woudl no longer have that closure that he or she had been seeking originally, and that could be damaging to them, to realize that the "answers" they recieved were fake.
I think that if someone was really psychic then they wouldn't be in it for the money they would only be interested in using their abilities to help others.
I would never have a cold reading done. I would have to have pre-information and recommendations about the medium I was going to use.
Well said MAB and charity better to err on the side of caution, I do see a use for those that claim ability, entertainment at least, back in the days of parlor games Parlor Troupes were popular, it was known that they where performers, noting was implied to be Mystic, just astonishing entertainment, when vaudaville came around the parlor troupes took a hit, they found the Fox Sisters to be the next big repackaged boost they needed, with slight adjustments to old parlor games and tricks they launched the spiritualist revival, now note that I said revival, the origin of spiritualism was a much less sensational thing then it became at the hands of performers.
I have personally never dealt with a medium. I have heard several stories both good and bad about them. As far as teaching would go I would think that its not something they teach when they don't want you to know the truth about them. Or if they are a fraud.
CheetahCry -
I think he meant why don't the psychics who actually posess the ability teach us about what to look for when dealing with a fraud, but no doubt if they're all frauds then no one will step forward to teach us how to spot a fraud.
i am not sure on how you would be able to know if a medium is a fraud or not for the simple reason that mediums can not see past the choices they can not make. so when you think bout it. they are merely making a best guess so yes most of the time they may be wrong. the only real way to know if someone is a fraud or not is to ask question that no one other then yourself and your family know the real answers too..... but who knows i may be wrong.
ObsidianFury -
I might be wrong when I say this...but when you say "when you think about it, they're really just making a best guess" then couldn't any one be a medium then if all they're doing is making the "best guess" about a situation?
i am a tarot reader....i don't tell anyone i can read there future....i can tell from the path they have choosen what they can expect....there is no path that is destined....no preordained shit.....future change with every action of the person.....as far as mediums....what you don't think people can see, and talk to the dead.....i am a medium...not all of us are frauds....
FallenAngel2005 -
Since you are a real medium, what have some of your experiences been with talking to the dead? Have you ever encountered a fake medium/psychic? What are somethings you would suggest people look for when trying to discern a fake from the real thing?
Through practice cold readers become better guessers, a medium is skilled in cold reading, but even more skilled in varing the appearance of cold reading, they will also use social engineering to "close in on" a client, obtaining little gems, that build on their performance, Like for example MAB..
"I am getting a trip .. a trip with an uncle.. are you relating to that trip?..
on that trip.. "
"There is an assertive person that my guide speaks of , they are abrasive around you.. they have attempted to provoke you.."
Both very likely to be relavant to about how much of the population?
Now if I knew your about your uncle and weather or not he was alive or dead.. (obituary) then that would build on the "details" of the reading.
Or if I was aware of the high school you went to (year books) I could connect some "details" to build on to sink a hit. They also work backwards to clear misses.
Say you are not one of the 85% of the population with an uncle
I would be a sour medium, but all hope is not lost, I simple address it as .. a connection from some one that crossed over had made about their uncle.. smoothed out and on with the performance.
A common thing as well is for a mediums relative to run a hair or nail salon sometimes even across the street, they share business, info gained in a Salon.. is passed on to the medium. How much info people give in Salons, hello gossip central..
things to look for: those who ask question....a true tarot reader will as you what your question is....nothing more....if you are sitting in front of them or close where you could see their face...eye contact is everything...if they can't keep eye contact don't believe a words they say....if you call someone one the and they keep asking questions hang the damn phone up....as far as me being a medium....i have had many experiances good and bad....i try not to personalize myself with any that i talk to....there is someone on here who will speak for me being a medium, devilsdesinty666....she has witnessed first hand, of some of the entities i have encountered
MAB Wiki Cold Reading it shows guessing as an art, it also explains what I really feel is fair form..
"The mentalist branch of the magic community approves of "reading" as long as it is presented strictly as an artistic entertainment and one is not pretending to be psychic." From Wiki.
as i said....through my cards...i NEVER tell anyone i can read there future....futures are not set....everything changes
Fallenangel2005 -
Thanks for the info, and the thing about "psychics" asking to many questions is actually a good thing to look for.
Dabbler -
Alright, and thanks for letting me know.
A very good point you make about not reading the future, that is a very big package to claim.. All this can have entertaining value as well.. if something gets too personal, and it seems that a claimed medium has access to private info, then kindly dismiss your self..
A hack here in my town, put out a sign, analysis $20.00, he would get the mark to sit for a reading for "donations" a buck or two, then he would , right after the reading was "done" casually inquire, "would you like an analysis?" So the person would casually agree.. he would rehash and "detail" the reading before, and then can you guess what he followed with?
Thats right "Twenty Dollars please." Scam artist.
I do not rely on mediums of any sorts to tell me anything in my future, connect me with a loved one, anything. I feel it is grossly inappropriate to even attempt to grasp at the future or connect with a fallen member of your circle. That sort of tampering causes problems from what i have experienced.
Even if I wasn't against the use of a medium for things like this, I have a hard time trusting anyone willing to capitalize on their 'abilitys' that would normally have them called diffrent.
i have never and will never ask for anything in return....i use my abilities for those who need them....do our guardians ask for anything in return for protecting us....those who ask for money will reap what they soe....i was given a gift...the key word is given.....i didn't pay for it....i won't make anyone else pay for my services...those who do put shame on all of us...
Thank you Fallen angel, you really stepped up to the plate in representing the better side of your practice.
I have visited a psychic one time and that was recently. I have even went so far as to avoid them for a variety of reasons.
I was told several things that were quite accurate. I was also told several things that were not accurate.
She said my chakras needed to be cleared. However, what was suggested was an amount of money that I viewed as better spent elsewhere whcih it was and the clearing was achieved anyway.
I believe that everone has this gift. I think it is more developed in some because they believe and practice. I also think there are individuals who will take advantage of others.
As the United States goes deeper into it's econimic crisis you will probably see more adds for psychics and more people utlizing them. As with anything else you should be a careful shopper
Investing to much expectation in a reading is also a set-up for disaster in personal matters.
if you remember what said to look for.....first thing she did was ASK if the mother had passed...i am sorry for the frauds....i have recived anything in return except a smile and a thank you....and i can set here and defend those of us that are not frauds until i am blue in the face...but i know it probably won't make a difference...people will still persecute us.
At a time in my life when I was at a crossroad, I had gone to a Psychic/Medium. I'd seen the place many a time while going down one of the major highways and figuring she was in business for so long--thought, why not.
The first time I visited this Psychic, I guess you could say I was vulvernable and naive--I like to believe all people are honest. I paid a minimal fee to see how good she was at pinpoiting me. She seemed to hit the nail on the head when it came to most everything--but the session came to a close and she said if I wanted anything else I had to pay more.
I am usually not one to fall for it--but I ended up forking out another $250--which included a few follow up sessions and a life chart.
The next time I went there two it was 2 weeks later; the place was closed, totally vacant and no sign of Mrs. Psychic.
It wasn't about the money--it was the trust factor and the fact that one more person had taken advantage of me. Although I truly believe there are people who are reputable, honest and have the gift, I've never been to any psychic or medium since.
I used to work with a girl that saw mediums on a regular basis. She said they aren't allowed to tell you of deaths straight out, but they can in a round about way. And when it happens, what they said all comes together.
I haven't seen a medium yet, I don't know what uneases me about them, I know 99% of them are frauds, but I cant help but thinking it's kind of testing fate, even if I don't believe in it? I don't want to take chances like that I mean.
this is why i do not trust mediums.. i trust my own mind, soul and that is it.. i don't trust other very easy
A true psychic will tell you not what you want to hear, but what they actually see. They don’t need to ask a lot of questions, due to the fact they should already know. A false will try to make you so interested in what they have to say in order to get you to return for further readings. A true psychic will give information freely without the need of a return form you. They understand they have a gift, they do not ask for money to give a reading but enjoy the opportunity to use their gift.
One popular psychic had a large client base, a "dead on" reader she was. knew the names of babies that where born in the sitters circle of family, knew detailed info of very personal things. even those reffered by sitters where hit with accuracy, a fraud unit became involved when an elder ladies bank noticed irregular activity in her account. Being investigators, unlike para-normal investigators they look for motive, and method, they actually listed the aid of a "mentalist" he went in and had a sitting, created a bio-thread (fabricated persona) and sat on the reading, a usual reading was what he got, and an invite to refer another person or pay to have another "more involved" reading. in the mean time between readings he looked at the ladies interactions, to see who had access to her personal space, the answer came from an obscure source, a maid service, a house cleaner, which turned out to be linked to.. you guessed it, the psychics relatives. Very intrusive practice.
Home sits and group introductions are another way, the complete frauds opporate, a person will invite "church members/circle members" into their home, while the resident is out of sight they rifle for info. Some even take trinkets (not valuable, but seemingly sentimental) to "materialize later, real wealthy people (usually receivers of inheiratence) are invited on retreats, at a high price, then they are likely told that if they refer so many people they can get a reduced fee.. still going to the retreat excludes the sittings at the retreat, they are likely to cover food, people that seek someone to interact with, and socialize jump at a get-away, a place that also promises (vaguely) to include contact with a deceased relative..
I would suggest that if people are really interested in visiting a medium or psychic to go with a friend, let others that are in grief know that if they consider visiting a psychic to let them know you would like to go along , a way to connect with them, we as humans want that reconnection with our living friends after we mourn, to hear a person right after a sitting, will allow a friend to interject their associated observations, in this purpose, as stated above by someone that practices reading that foundation is benefital in content. Fraudulent operators will cringe at such an idea, respectable readers should be delighted to include a friend.
i believe that most psychic or medium types are fakes, don't have an ability and always tell you shit that never really happens
There was a TV show about it in Denmark a while back. They tested socalled mediums, and surprisingly all the mediums could get in contact with a fictive spirit. It was documented that they used google and other internet servers to find information about their "victims"
I think it is disgraceful and disgusting. They do not care about the emotional damage they cause as long as they can make money.
A friend of mine was abused by a medium. Her boyfriend had comitted suicide a few weeks earlier and she wanted contact with him, and this bigass broad sat there and told her how he regretted and how he missed her and a whole lot of other things. The result of the session was that I had my friend crying over the phone for about an hour before she was somewhat calm, and today she is even more confused than she was before the little "stunt".
People who commit these frauds should recieve maximum punish, it is dangerous to toy with peoples emotions when you do not know what you are dealing with.
Before spending any hard earned cash know the difference between a psychic and a medium.
I believe everyone has a degree of psychic ability and I have experimented for some time with different forms of divination.
I am also a Spiritualist, mediums at our churches will attempt to give evidence of life after death at no charge ( except for the usual church collection )
I have met up with one or two fakes...remember the golden rule...if you cannot accept what is being said say so and keep your money in your pocket.
I have also heard that before the shows start (assuming that it's a "psychic" television show) the people in the audience and sitters talk and get to know each other, the psychic has people working for him/her out in the audience mingling with people asking them questions that seem innocent enough and then the people working for the psychic relay all the information they learned back to him/her and that's one way they know some of the things they know.
Another very simple but commonly used technique is coldreading. The so-called "mediums" use it in large groups. It is asking questions in a way that does not sound like a question where you use it to guide your victim into giving you the answers you are looking for and you work your way out from that.
99% of the population are easy to manipulate and sadly, many people takes advantage of that.
I have personally been one of the lucky ones. I have never had an experience with a crooked medium. I have had a truely great experience with a medium. She held my ring in her hand, and told me some stuff she could have never known. She also made a prediction which came true. I am truely sorry for anyone who has been duped by a fake. They do some awful things to people.
Any arrogant medium, will respond to such an interuption with, "Oh, you are blocking your loved one from passing, this will stir bad spirits toward you, you need to be guarded, I can do that) how many people that go to mediums actually know what their loved ones believed, usually none, mediums count on this, they even watch for crosses, and ankes, and other adornments, any sign of survivial, no the person has passed, the medium has no access to that person, they passed, we must acept that, they are on to better horizons, why pull them back for selfish reasons? to provide proof that what they are dead? Isn't that what grief counselors are for? What about the wake? gather with friends, their is proof that a deceased person is survied by those that had real connections, not an artificial one, crafted through a talent for reading a persons responses to routine questions. Parlor games whether for entertainment or the rare intimate gathering is one thing, but their are plenty of other things to do with execising grief, mediums have no more talent then a grief counselor, yet they employ methods that any respectable person would gasp at. Saying "Oh they are alive on the other side" So the person doesn't get a question answered, they will go to another and another until they are distraught.. yea, the mediums you know may be "legit" but what they precondition some for, that is a concern, where are all these legit mediums when "Town hall meetings are called, because a fraud hacked a town? In England they Out right ban such things, they slip under the radar, and another thing Are they or are they not a religion? If a medium is doing personal readings and the make a grieving person more distraught are they subject to malpractice, they should be and Sylvia Brown .. she needs to have her ass sued.. "Oh she does free readings now." yea, and promotes her damn books, which are hash, Hash? Cut and paste the following items, Motivational articles, some Digest enteries, A bit of biblical jargon, and some testimony.. presto you have a Fuzzy feel good book, that will get people to sit for hours awaiting contact "Just like Sylvia." Well I bought a Shogun book, and I am still not a Shogun.
" Sinora Please ellaborate on this, how is it done and can you provide transcript like examples.. I am not clear what you mean, I am aware that variation in practice is need in England and that legal wrangling is imortant.. so how can you assure that that "Evidence of Survivial is actually happening?
You wrote:
"I am also a Spiritualist, mediums at our churches will attempt to give evidence of life after death at no charge ( except for the usual church collection )"
Well Dabbler you will notice I also used the work attempt.
No promises are made, our mediums attempt to give evidence through linking with their own guides and the friends and loved ones of the congregatin.
We are told to say only...yes, no or I don't know when the medium addresses us, then descriptions of those passed are given along with a variety of other information.
The recipiant is the one who says if it is evidence or not.
When all claim to be real, I find it is had to believe at all.
My friend went and saw one, paid $80 for it.
She left there feel horrible about herself, the medium said such negative things about her, her child and her shop. She said she had a very negative presence around her, later that week she was in a holistic shop and a healer came up to her and said that she had an amazing calming presence! Now we are all confused!
I practiced Metaphoric Reading, An Example phrase:
"In the story of the tapestries story you are to connect with an elusive satellite, there is a resource there that has been waiting for you."
This I am sad to say, is a loaded phrase.
Please investigate it, scrutinize it , what is the under lying motive of this question..(that's right it is a question, it will open some one up, to talk about what?
What character type would this work on?
what variation can be used.. if someone "takes it the wrong way"(as some people do) how can it be altered in hind sight?
"I read in the Tapestries Story.. "
- One, Where are those that claim to be legit when these thieves "practice", why won't they teach others what is real (by demonstration, and definition)?
Because they're more than likely afraid someone will make them out to be a fraud using some sort of scientific mumbo-jumbo.
"I bet they invited you back for a follow-up sitting? "
One of my fellow students was doing a report on mediums and had gone to a few in our local area. Most would ask leading questions....and would work from there. Then start with the I see...or this will happen stuff.
There was one she said that didn't ask question or anything but pretty much laid her life out for her.
They are out there and if I had such a gift I sure would not want to advertise it to the entire world. As for teaching it to others, there are some things you can teach but a lot of it comes from within...you can't always share the gifts you are given
Well I was a professional psychic on a website a few years ago, for a few years. There were those that just spouted out crap and didn't put themselves into it really. It really sucked and made a bad name for those of out here that really connect with someone do it right.
But not all are bad. And even the best are wrong sometimes. We can change things with every little action we do. I always told them, "To be forewarned is to be forearmed.".
For instance, I saw someone going on a trip. She was going to New York soon. It also said there was danger and I warned her to take precautions and to be extra careful.
I know a few parlor readers, they operate out of an entertainment group, they do all the bookings, they are real good with working with victims of fraud and exploitive practices. I think it is a good thing to use for novelty (with a more intimate reading for friends and known associates) it is the red line behavior that is needed to be kept in check, and education of what is not to be expected from a reading is important in that objective to those that agree that their is an application to sittings. Yet to police their own of exploitive cons is also important.
I remember when I was in high school my mom and I were having alot of problems, and my aunt recommended someone that would do a "spiritual cleansing" of our home. I honestly could not tell you if my mom ever gave the guy any kind of payment, but I always wondered how he administered the cleansing over the phone from California when we were in Illinois...
OK my thoughts are the real ones do not use their gifts for profit...plain and simple.
And they do teach...if asked but it is a hard lesson to explain.
And the would be student should be assessed for intent, why they want to learn, that is the down side to exposing fraud mediums, once you expose the tricks they use, others think.."Oh, I can do that."
I feel quite saddened that people like this exist - how could they prey on someone who has just lost a loved one?
I guess they would be easy targets though, and some people just don't seem to have a conscience...
Although with things like psychic prediction, some of it may be special, some talent, some sheer luck - I am in no position to comment on such things.
I honestly feel that there should be some form of definition as you say dabbler or some limitat which, when it gets ridiculous, they should stop being able to hide behind the law and face the fact that they screwed someone over..
I have a family member who frequents 'psychics' and is always left with a sense of false hope.
Hey Cherry, do you know why your family member visits these "psychics"?
Is it maybe that they desire the false hope they give them? Or do they have a genuine interest/belief in the field?
I myself am able to see things before they happen but wouldn't call it foresite b/c it isn't something i can turn on and off and it isn't something I have often but it is something that has helped me before i like to think that It was something from my grandmother on my dads side b/c she used to have that intuition thing. and when I went she seemed to know things about me like that for instance that I had the ability and thats one of the things that made me think that she was for real but it turned out that she was a fraud and I wasn't the only one to see it she asked me an abundant amount of information and that is where I started wondering what was going on when she asked all the input that she did like where I was born I'm accustumed to the regular give me your nmae Birthdate and and the year you were born but the info she asked me was crazy and I payed 45.00 to ask her my questions and have my palm read!
There is a law it is theft by false pretense, in some states here.. they have to clearly post a For entertainment purposes only on all flyers and advertisements, some states only allow a person to operate through an entertainers for hire. This includes all the parlor magicians, and performance mediums. if a medium claims to be able to connect a person to a dead relative, and works them as described above, that is fraud.
I find that people are either Love Lorn, Grieving, or Career Confused when they visit the little shops. They are likely to pay a set fee.. 5-20 dollars. they get a good idea of how they appear, how transparent they are, and perhaps a trademark flattering from the reader. There is a novelty there, nothing to raise the alarm of law, and code enforcers.. but if the reader goes to a clinical position, and say invites the sitter back for a follow-up reading.. (usually urgently recommended) on some pretense, and while the time passes they collect (info hack) the persons private and personal background.. and then uses it to intensify the appearance of some mystic connection then it gets notice from authorities.
One such reader actually had plants (network members) in house keeping and saloons in her city.. a free reading to the saloon clients,
and refferals from a friend of the house keeper.. with all the info the house keeper gathered, or the hair saloon worker wrote down.
I will post when I find it some variations on this. The entertainment value of such things needs to be separated from the study of actual phenomena, they do indeed hide behind the occult equation, what they do is not occult phenomena, it is entertainment that can be abused.
I did not mean to imply that to teach one would be to teach them harmful tricks....I simply meant it is a hard lesson because it is something that is inside you....I do get your point about tricks though. If i were to visit a medium, psychic, or whatever divination type person i would certainly walk in there expecting the person to tell me about myself.
If they ask alot of questions then i would have to say they are fishing and are fakes.
But i stick to my first post to be able to see the future in any way shape or form would be a gift, and to use that gift for profit in my eyes is very wrong.... Karma is a... well we all know that phrase.
*Sighs* The only damage that would be caused, is if the individual getting the reading done is easily manipulated.
A good example is with the episode of "Mind Freak" when Chris acted as a medium, but then tells his costumers that the reading was indeed false.
It is a sad thing about the human race, we only do things to gain weath out of it. If that means to hurt someone in the process so be it. Some people just dont care who they hurt or deceive as long as they gain heaps of money out of it. They also play on the human emotion. They dont care.
Maybe certain things don't get learned but are known within, or it could be an excuse too.
Luckily I have never witnessed such frauds for I have never contacted any, except for fortune telling, and what she said about my past and present was right but the future was wrong, but still cards don't tell the exact future except for chances.
That's why I decided to learn Tarot card reading on my own, however I'd never contact anyone for someone who's dead, I believe dead people should be left to rest in peace and never disturbed.
However I know of someone who has encountered a fraud and this fraud is often seen on the Maltese TV channels!!! Now I won't judge him, but if he's really a fraud no one would really report him publically due to the lack of knowledge and fear that there is in Malta, so there is really no one who could investigate.
I like the notion that dead people should stay dead - that's generally a good idea!
I would really like to learn tarot, but the cards and books etc. are so expensive they have always disuaded me...
Maybe I will try soon :)
Motive comes into play, the pretense is the lure, what motive does the person seeking contact with {insert loved one}? Even entertaining readers, are routinly asked.. "can you contact the dead?.. "The last reader did." In popular opinion this has to do with a poor grieving network, that person is likely to not want to let go.. Psychic Mafia, by M. Lemar Keene goes into this matter, where even after an exposed medium confessed (there is an Opera based on this) people still request contact with their loved ones.. so that hostage situation that the medium created back fires in the end.. now as Senora makes clear there is a call for spiritual grief collectives.. but this should be to promote healthy passage of the grief passage, and even collect the strands of our relationship, bringing mutual friends together over a loved ones passing. What does isolating a person on some retreat, and performing parlor tricks under false pretense have to do with healing?
Where is the interaction and group ice breaker in a dim lite plastic shop? These frauds and hacks have to be called out. yet those that dismiss the whole practice of the novelty.. they go too far as well. Letting ones self be exploited through their beliefs, that hurts..
but im okey with them detecting new life. before the soul fuzes with a new vessel it float though space looking for a maker like a magnet. so the right soul fuzes with the right vessel
I have heard more about fraud in this subject then i have legitimate practice.
I will not collect from another for my medium ways.. I feel it is a gift not a profit!!
to even further extend the gift i work with pastors and other mediums in the field to help for spiritual warfare type stuff so far no fake no fraud..
but there are most defiantly crooked mediums and physics out there, you would be a fool to fall for there trap!
I had a friend that was told by a medium that he was going to die in a car accident on his 30th birthday. He was always a safe and careful driver, not prone to speeding, drink driving or any other reckless behaviour.
Just before his birthday he started acting irrationally, speeding, drink driving, even getting around without a seat belt on.
I pointed out that he believed the medium so much he is bringing about his own death. I did a tarot reading for him and showed him by my cards he was not only going to live he had a future.
Then he stopped his reckless behaviour and low and behold, he lived well beyond his 30th birthday.
By my own experience, many Mediums are genuine, but what people don't think about is they are interpreting the images that come to mind from their view point not yours. I feel if a meduim describe what they were seeing to you, that it would be more valid and understandable.
For instance I had a meduim tell me that she sees me in a room studying and learning but there were bars on the windows. So she figured I was going to get a job working in a court, jail or whatever. However I interpreted it years later to mean that I felt trapped by my studies, that I couldn't learn enough or gain enough understanding to do what I was working towards. Which turned out to be truthful as I never got a job working in a prison or with any form of law.
That open to interpitation is a key factor in reading. If someone has a reading and others claim that they had readings from the same reader, and the person gets nothing from it.. what are they to think? Feeling left out? Like there faith lacks?
tigerzplay - Would you mind explaining your post a bit more? As it stands now it leaves much to be desired.
I think it is fraudulant when they pay money sometimes alot to be taken, these fruads have put the rest of the meduims in a bad state tto say. My aunt is into fotune telling and she has been almost some times right on, yet she does it not for money but for friends and family, but to go out an tesionally decieve someone for money is a crook. sorry. But i have not run into this except which is stated above.
I have not ever talked to one, but I really would like to. I am open minded and would like to see what they have to say for me. I do hate when someone who does not have that talent or ability, acts like they do and then it gives the true ones a bad rep or bad name.
So the bad ones count on the claims of the good ones to practice their deception, I think the talent is physiology, not metaphysical in nature. It is lkearned and developed from being raised in a socially interactive environment. Info craft, and personality hacking is not excepted in advertisment, nobody would like to have a phycologist send an investigator after them for facts to slip into a reading.. so why is it that when someone claims to have access to the after world, and mystic powers .. people open right up, even open minds need screen doors.. "oh I live in a great neighborhood." and leave the door open.. would be unheard of with your physical property, now what invite are you leaving for your soul matters.. would you walk into a strangers house and leave your values? I like the fact that friends can gather and have the social interaction of parlor talent to break ice, and I have seen it help in group recovery, when the groups have been comprimised by disturbances. .
I have met many legitimate readers and mediums who educate the public and clients on mediumship and their skills. The genuine readers that I have met merely consider themselves to be channels for Spirit to come through, and teach the message that we all have this ability to listen to Spirit for our own personal healing.
I have also met many other crooked mediums who take advantage of the public through their supposed abilities. I worked with a reader at a local metaphysical shop who was also heavily involved in selling nutritional supplements. She began to claim during readings that the "spirits" were telling her clients to purchase these nutritional supplements. She was fired from the shop after that. I have seen that it doesn't take too long for the con artists to expose themselves and suffer the repercussions for their scams.
Back as far as the medicine shows, that is how long such a routine as you mention has been going on.
Such is the importants of the Novelty Label to card reading, For Entertainment Purposes Only.
When people invest so much, monetary, and faith. Only to hear flattery, and sales pitches. In any other field such practices would gain civil suits. Somehow people have given parlor magicians "churches"
to perform what every mainstream magician is doing (on stage, in front of adiences, who are expecting to be entertained) for a private sitting
using personal matters. What about actually teaching a person to collect and read the journals and diaries of the deceased? Contacting their friends, and teaching people how to ask them questions, ones that are likely to get better info, then someone that has only just met them?
If it is not the first "medium" the person goes to, what about the next one? How long until the medium, ends up in the crime blotter? Then what do you tell the person? Oh.. they are not all like that?
How about, it is a performance, used to lubricate interaction, a parlor tradition, one that has been high jacked by occult, and metaphysicist to fleece the public, who are made vunerible by grief. Those that may not have communicated with their loved ones while they where alive, never learning even what their accepted after life was, yet they are ready to accept that they can now be connected to that person.. even though it is a mix of confusing and vague.. or just relative snips from semi personal interactions.
So could it be agreed that Crooked Mediums Damage the entertainment, and social tradition of reading and parlor craft?
I do agree Dabbler the fraudulant ones do a lot of damage.
These people play on the emotions of their clients, they read them like a book telling them what they want to hear and throw in some drama just to frighten them a little.

It seems so many around whether it be someone who could point others in the direction of the legit mediums or what not only want to help if they can get money out of you for their help.
Not sure what their reasons are but know that some do say sure i will help you but what is in it for me?
I know a lady through my sister who has been scammed more than once by a so called medium but also by many other people as well as somehow once you meet one scam artist others seem to come out of the woodwork to scam you.
Problem is this woman never seems to learn no matter how much she is told this is a rip off don't fall for it.
You can not just tell who is real or fake, since there is no legal mesure /license . But one quick easy way is the money charges. A real medium has a set (flat fee) for a reading. If one keeps asking for more money to see/do more RUN they are fake and milking you like a cow. Pulled a few friends from those kind.
Well you must be careful where you go. If you are a skeptic in the first place and they charge a fee you will probably feel you got bilked.
This is the thing, most metaphysical churches where it is commonplace to do readings don't charge money or minimal fees when they have psychic fairs.
Private individuals generally charge for whatever their time is worth by their estimation. Now those who have a spiritual base behind doing readings believe it is an abuse of power to charge exorbitant fees for readings of any kind. In so doing their psychic abilities will be diminished as a sort of cause and effect happening. Whether by guilt or some act we ascribe to some deity.
I was taught in my active years with psychics that only approximately 80 percent of any psychics readings were most likely to be correct. They said anything more stated by the psychic would not be valid. Stay clear of anyone stating they had 100 percent accuracy. It doesn't mean that on certain occasions they couldn't have a higher rate or lesser rate. It wasn't chiseled in stone.
Timeframes are the sticky part because pin-pointing an exact time for something is very difficult. I had a psychic give me a reading (this is something I rarely get) and she told me I was going to inherit a diamond ring of great value. I said sure I am. I could not imagine where it would come from. Ten years later I received a diamond ring from a distant relative of an Aunt. She had died and had my grandmother's diamond engagement ring and I guess my grandmother had wanted me to actually have it so it was sent to me. It was appraised at near $10, 000. This was a long time afterward but the lady was right on, so you never know about these things until enough time has passed. I was in an OMG state of mind because it was so unexpected and I remembered what she had said but by that time I didn't remember her name to call and say, "You were right!"
Beltran that is an actual indicator of a network of fraud practices. Information is passed between such scandelous networks.
How I do loathe these charlatans, they feed on the misfortunes of others!
John Edwards will be doing another show. He's coming back for a new season. And FYI the best a medium can do in percentage is being 80% correct. If you are going to always focus on that other 20% ... well, you're wasting all our time.
If a medium performs a show on tv then they are fake. They simply want fame and money, a real medium wouldn't do such a thing.
Nothing wrong with fame and money.
So, if an artist charges a lot of money and has a major showing their art is fake? Or the singer that has major records is what, faking it? Or the doctor that charges a lot for their services is faking their techniques too? Where the hell do people get off for thinking that things should be free and can't be promoted or presented to a greater audience? You not going to believe in something if you already have the notion that its all fake. Its not.
Key word audience, as in people gathered to see a performance, a novelty.. it is a performance designed to appear to be metaphysical, it never is, any body that claims to have actual access to any metaphysical realm lies, they use the same things that Mentalist use (performers). When clinical "practice" enters into the picture, it becomes theft by false pretense, hiding somewhere between spiritual, clinical, and entertainment is cowardly. Fleecing people is wrong, selling books that claim to allow the reader to access some power.. is wrong.. especially when the person that wrote that book ois caught using the same tricks that performers do. None of what is claimed to be psychis, or occult has ever (or will ever) be actual, it does not exist. All it is is Parlor tricks that have patter of mystic origins, told time and again. The regulation in most states is by gaming commisions, bunco squads deal with massive cases of fraud.. even the entertainers are pestered by frauds. There is no mystic to such things.. it is entertainment.. investing anything past that is setting ones self up for exploitation, as well as friends being exploited, as occult hacks network. To be entertained is one thing.. you pay a set price.. to put your self clinically in the hands of a stranger is not smart.
It is all performance, a ruse, a pretense using guile and leading questions, if you can demonstrate otherwise then go get 1,000,000 from James Randi. John Edward, Sylvia Brown, and Uri Geller all need to face up to their scam.
Parlor entertainment.. it all comes from the Fakirs of centuries back. Medicine Shows used the same performances.
The true-believer syndrome merits study by science. What is it that compels a person, past all reason, to believe the unbelievable. How can an otherwise sane individual become so enamored of a fantasy, an imposture, that even after it's exposed in the bright light of day he still clings to it--indeed, clings to it all the harder?
--M. Lamar Keene
This is one those either you get it or don't things. Unless you have a personal experience you will not understand it from looking from the outside in. Either you think its all fake or you take it on faith. Neither are the same to those that are train and know what they are doing. I personally have trained with James VanPraagh and some very damn good people that aren't faking. But there is no way for someone else to understand what happens. I also can not make someone else believe. But it is not fake. It could "be" faked but then what can't?
yes they can be crooks and they can cause major damage if you have the gifts you should not be selling them. People need to be help and you should help them. I understand that their are thefts out there but the real damage is to the ones who can really help don't get believed. People need hope both in their future and it a persons abilities.
Well true psychic person can not be differntiated with the fake. and some time newbies of the psychic exercises do think that tehy are master of he psych ha-ha. And even more they come up with opening their forum seperately too depend on the psychic exercises they are doing and without knowing to what extent they will go with the exercises and even they do not do the psychic exercises regulerly and very careless, how can be they mentors such as true hypnotist and true reiki masters, I too am crazy of the psych and knows full set of capable of becoming you true living para-psychic. But yet not says that i am mentor though i have that capability by I have done those exercises self as seperately and not in full set and not in regulerly.

Recently here in Italy, some of these crooked mediums were brought to justice, I was so pleased but at the same time sorry for those whom lost money and more because of them, at times it seems the system does work!
