Do You Think that If A Person Became A Vampire They Would Take Their Baggage Into That Life?
Or Would They Leave It In This One?

I would hope that with thier new found abilities that baggage would no longer apply. If they did take it with them, That would make for a really F'd up Vamp on Xanex.

It depends on your meaning.

If you mean physical problems, I'm pretty sure they'd heal along once they turned.

However, I imagine any baggage such as mental, or family or relationship problems would stay with them. They keep their mind, even through the insanity of blood rush. Problems dont go away. They may fade with time, but they're always there...

i think they would take their baggage with them to some extent. some of the more petty matters i don't think they would take, it wouldn't be important in their state of being, but some things they would take.

Kind of sad really. If you became immortal and took baggage with you. Maddening perhaps.

Physical wounds, maybe.
But extra baggage, That would most likely follow them, maybe even get worse.

I think with each vampire it is different and it depends how quickly the vampire accepts his immortaly and allows him/herself to let go of his mortal ties.

As time goes on, the vampire's level of humanity decreases and allows him/her to come in touch with his feral nature and ignore or put aside the "emotional baggage".

Immortality does not erase the memmory. Therefor I think baggage would follow.

As vampireblondee stated, memories would be intact. I disagree with psivampire on a deterministic and fatalistic turn toward the feral aspects. There is no absolute determiner in this regard except the need for blood. Where the blood comes from, how much is needed and how often feeding occurs vary from vampire to vampire.

The nature of the baggage would determine whether the vampire would embrace humanity or veer toward the feral.

A vampire exposed to a brutal environment while human might readily turn vicious. But maybe not. Perhaps this person might have chanced upon a book or two and realized there was a wide world out there beyond their limited exposure. Perhaps, that vampire would take matters into her own hands and try something different.

On the other hand, a white collar worker in her little cubicle might go mad with power.

i don't think it would be viewed as a baggage but i am sure for the newly awakened it might be a bit hard going through the transition but only for a short period of time.

Depends on the attributes of the vampire itself. Not via whitewolf roleplay mind you, but the mental prowess of the human of whom transformed into that immortal creature. Since said creature does not exist save for the movies, then it would be pure speculation...Just my opinion.

I think they would take it with them. After all it is that "human" life that makes up the new vampire. I would think you'd need to keep whatever baggage as a way to insure mental andf emotional continuity. Plus your personality is made of both the good and bad of life.

I would have to say yes it would as they still have the same mind do they not, its not going to be erased. But perhaps they would try and put that all behind them and start anew.

Even a vampire has emotions...so in order to erase all emotions they you would be a unemotional vampire. Just a walking of the dead...with no thought. Zoombie I would say yes...vampire no.

why if you are reborn into a vampire would you leave your memories behind or scars. would you be not the same being only a vampire. many hollywoods fables seem to remeber their paths in life their changing. memories and feelings of yesteryear. So the baggage is yours you keep it.

Scars stay with you all the time no matter what u become what what you are, Unless you get help for your past or get past your past, And a vampires life is not that exciting we have our problems too with the way society is today and depression comes along with vamperyerism

Well, hopefully the vampire would try and leave all the baggage behind, but of course not all baggage can be left behind or forgotten so fast. But I would hope the vampire would atleast try to rid its self of baggage since it has a whole new bag of crap he/she would have to put up with.

Well, vampires just lose their heartbeat -- not their memory. If they were a twisted sociopath or a good-natured self-sacrificing type -- I don't see why they wouldn't either amplify their personality or redefine it in order to survive. Still, it would be the same remnants* of a mind

*I say remnants, because I am a human and haven't the foggiest what the laws of "becoming" a vampire are and there are no free clinics that teach these things. So, I only assume that anyone would lose some of themselves after of hundreds of years of watching the world die, rebuild and die around you.

I agree that medical ailments are no longer an issue -- death will do that as a favor. Other than that, I still say mental baggage transfers.

I think becoming a vampire, would almost be like becoming a whole different person. I think it would be something you would want to try and start a whole new life. You would choose to not take anything else into it.

As much as i wish it was possible to just rid yourself of the baggage you have at least the bad parts that is.
I feel your baggage most likely stays with you in some way but it would be nice if it would not cause you the problems you have been having.

although i think we all hope that the baggage will not be brought back and that someone who is turned can start anew, part of me wants to say if the baggage is bad enough, it will come back and cause the person to seek vengence.

The mind of a person stays theoretically the same after the change, so it wouldn't surprise me that emotional baggage remains and even possibly gets worse as the vampire passes through loger periods of life and isn't bound by time like the mortals they may be attatched to

They might forgive, but not forget. Sometimes you just need to avenge those harms that where done to you and loved ones. I would think the scars would carry on into that next phase of existing.

I do not believe they would forget all the pain and suffering they had before “changing” but I also know that pain will no longer be relevant it will be a merely souvenir a simple memory somewhere that from time to time comes back but is no longer of value

Well, I guess for a while then, a vampire would carry emotional baggage after being turned from human.

In Anne Rice's 'Vampire Chronicles', the longer a vampire lives, it loses memory of its human life. Therefore making that baggage disappear.

I think if you were an immortal vampire you would carry emotional and mental baggage for a time. But one would hope that over centuries you would learn to accept the past and put it behind you as your a creature that would have to live in the present and not the past. Or you would be prone to continue making the same mistakes because you haven't allowed yourself the opportunity to learn and heal.

I beleive it depends on each individual, it is said time heals everything, so there is a big probability that with the possiblity of a longer life, almost immortal, a vampire can do both, built new scars and let go of old ones.

Yes they would definatly carry the emotions and baggage of their previous life, Yet with time like all things will eventually fade and new emotions and baggage would take on the new host. but to die and forget all that has happened nay I think even in death we would remember.

I think that some revenge would be still there and get back they would, shyness and ackwardness would soon be overcome with being a vampire. they would have to feed and would be more dominant than they where first.

So much of our baggage is relative to the situation we are in; stresses about money go out the window if we hit the lottery, lingering fears from domestic abuse can fade over time with a loving, supportive partner, being awkward and shy can fade as we grow older and discover more about who we are. I think as someone who is now immortal and has the powers a vampire has, many things would be put into perspective and something that was extremely significant before the change would merely be a small annoyance afterwards.

I believe that yes, physical scars would heal, but there are probably limits to the mental and emotional healing of scars via the transition into immortality.
At first their excessive longing for their family may bring up painful memories.
This may then turn to resentment, and then maybe a bitter acception that they are not the mortal that they once were.
They may retain some scars from their "previous" life, but I think that new and bigger ones would quickly replace them.

emotional or physical scars can heal or have less impact, since a vampire is tehcnicly able to live forever or so, the time given allows both to healand to also let go of what is causing that scar and pain related to it. Bot emotional and physical.

I think that individuals would still carry their mental and emotional problems with them. For example, a human having an organ transplanted would recieve a healthy organ in place of an unhealthy one but the operation would not remove of the pain of, say, being bullied at school

I think they would take their baggage with them however with an extended life it wouldnt last long. they would find ways to get past it. after all life only lasts so long.

Well I think as BlueBlood it depends on the type of Vamp / human they are. I mean If one was to turn Vampiric than I do not see why they would not still have *baggage * as you call it .
Do they not have family, friends etc. that would be around them until they passed. If your talking the Human kind who changes to live that lifestyle or even the Movie kind.. We all have something that stays with us I would think, sooo. it would be up to them to carry it along or to just walk away from everything. as was said depends on the Vampire/ human

This is where it gets confusing but I am assuming you mean the fictional type and that would depend on the writer. It seems they do to a degree...many of them bemoan a lost love or being alone, etc. So I think fictionally yes they do and in fiction most all vampires are immortal in the sense that they can only be killed in certain ways.

it does not matter if you think fictional or just to say real, hollywood has always shown that vampires changed rember their past quit well and retell the past in several of these. our baggage will not be taken it is ours, a fresh start to say, we would have to relearn all that has made us, math, world history the way of the world, we cannot pick and choose what may vanish, for time itself will vanicsh many of the minds thoughts and dreams. but it is ours and it makes us............ us,

i carry all my baggage with me. but new bags are always add to my mind and that'S normal after the awakening like a couple of day after i was thinking that i was a new person. but memory can't forget what it printed in. it slowly come to me and i finally understand that i ust got the possibility to accept the things happenned to me and things i do and find the sense of my existence

I think so. If the baggage is strong enough it will go with you everywhere. No way you can forget it just by being changed. That would be illogical and would point in the direction of vampires forgetting their human life.

Indeed. Even though it is possible to forget, the things forgotten are insignifigant, small things. Larger more important things can't be forgotten.

I would say so. If they still held on to the memories of who they were. Then they might still hold on to the feelings associated with them.

I do think the internal scars follow you. I think that you can not forget your experiences because they are part of what makes you who you are.

everyone has internal scars of some sort and if your immortal than you have more than most.

If someone could become a true vampire. I dont think teh memory would be erashed, therefore the baggage would be carried on

the reason i feel that way is because if one was to live many many lifetimes, how many would they love and loose. How many times will cry over loved ones passing before there eyes. Even if they choose to harden there hearts and pull away the pain from pulling away would then also become baggage all of this adds up over time. everything in life can create baggage and if you live multiple lifetimes wow that adds up to alot of emotional krap.

Well it depends on your view of vampires. if they still have a soul, they would...but if they have eternity, they'd probably get over it eventually, as time would heal the wounds.
However, if they lost their soul and became a mindless, thoughtless killing machine, then they probably wouldn't.

Therea are in literature two types of vampires: ones that keep their memories(the romantic image) and ones that become a sort of zombies, because after death the brain cells die first (the monster image).

With the transformation, the thought process has changed. What was once a normal reaction to situation, no longer exists, therefore, no baggage.

Of course any physical limitations would not follow them, but yes, I believe that they would carry emotional baggage - though over the years some of their issues may fade. A vampire would retain his/her memories.

If we were transformed tomorrow and left behind love ones and friends, would not we have emotional baggage on those we left behind. a transformation would not wipe out the love for our children, nor the baggage of life we had lived. baggage is never forgeotten only hid in the recesses of our mind.

To answer your question the baggage would still be there. You are the same deep within. Just more intense with a few extra things to take care of.

I believe it would depend on the mind's reaction to the transformation. Some minds are more adaptive to change, and in that instance, I would say they would maintain the same emotional baggage. Other minds are less adaptive and any significant change could lead to suppression of memories and emotions.

i think that once one was embraced, one would still be a person, even if an enhanced person. were i to be given a billion dollars tomorrow, i would still be me at the end of the day. life would change....but old scars would still be there....to heal during the coarse of eternity.

I posted before saying i feel you would have to take your baggage with you but it would be nice to be able to leave the bad baggage behind.
I was thinking though sometimes the bad baggage might have its advantages to help a person or vampire to not make the same mistakes in their next phase of life or immortality, whatever the case might be.
I know there have been many times that have been bad in my life i would just as soon forget ever happened if that was possible.

Absolutely! Emotional baggage stays with you until you dispose of it. If it was something that the human didn't deal with while he/she was still alive, then as a vampire the issues would stay with them for eternity.

No sopposedly on some tv shows a demon takes over so the body is replaced wtih a complete different thing instead of that person.

I believe any mental baggage would stay once a person was transformed into vampire but maybe physical would go away.Though it would be kind of odd seeing a vampire with OCD or MPD would kind of make them like a weak link that needs to be killed so I don't know really.Maybe with some the baggage stays but others have found a way to get rid of it so that whatever bothered them before they where transformed never existed to them even though it had at one point.

After having spent the night rethinking my last post I have to say I don't think any baggage stays once a person is transformed into a vampire.Yes mental baggage would seem to stay like many have said but I think that perhaps the mentality of a vampire can change so any mental baggae would disappear once transformed.Granted I will spend alot of time rethinking even this now that I have stated what I think but I always keep an open mind to these kinds of things so I will have many views on one thing and change what I have said from one day to the next because of it.But in all honesty I think the vampire's mentality changes so their mental baggage would disappear as well a physical baggage.

Well this would depend on the writer really and how they perceived the fictional character. As for the subculture they believe they are born the way they are and cannot be "turned" (made) so that question wouldn't be relevant except in regard to karma if one believes in karma. There are different viewpoints in the subculture...some many believe but a few have other ideas...its called opinion.

I guess a vampire would still have all their mental baggage and such, but they would have allot of time to rid themselves of that baggage...

Baggage is with you if you don't remember, for glimpses in the mind ssem to always come every so many years, things that have forgotten are still stored within the doors of your mind.

I think you would take it to that life. Your life experiences are what make you who you are today. Unless when you became a vampire you lost your entire identity.

It will stay the same no matter what. The only thing that really changes is the lifestyle of the person. Everything is still their own personal business and they have to deal with it just the same.
