I remember in mid - late 1990s there was a lot of talk about futuristic tech and stuff in the year 2000. Flying cars, hovering buildings, robots that can behave like real people, ect ect. It's 2008...and I still see broken down tractor trailers. What!?
When do you think these futuristic things will really start appearing? Or do you think we already have some of these things, but they're being hidden from us?
The technology advancement going on is already astounding in just the last 8 years. There is more computing power on your hip than went up in the Apollo capsules...
Current chip technology readily available is at 45nm, 32nm next year, 25nm the year after that...
25nm is appx. 250 atoms...
Jeez how much harder do you want me to work bro? :-)
As a contrary argument... is our species really ready for the technology we already have? I mean there is a world war going on right now because a large section of the global population wants the technology clock turned back to 800ad...
While this is not 'on topic', I simply must ask this question.
What nation(s), exactly are wanting to go back to 800 AD technologically? Where are you getting this information?
It is true that by the yesr 2000 the world wasn't as the past predicted it to be...but much like the psot before...tech has advanced 10 fold in the last 10 years.iPods,BlueTooth, portable dvd players, digital video cameras/camera,etc.No one even thought that ten years ago alot of the things being used now would exist. We now have hybrid cars, solar power,LCD flat panel T.V.s,external hard drives.....PDAs etc, robot vacs...robot pets...etc.The world has advanced so much since the time of black and whites Pay phones and full serve gas sations.

In the 1950s there were stories of the future colonization of the Moon and Mars by the 21st century. We do have a space station, and have sent robots to Mars. However I am disapointed that the exploration of space has not gotten further than a trip to the Moon, I would have thought there would be at least colonization by now.
well everythings here in 2000 . robots are there , only yesterday some scientist from switzerland made a flying machine and he flew with wing like machine in the open air. there is this cell hpones where you can take anywhere, than we also have cars running in water as well .
I don't think we have them.
Prolly getting really close.
But I doubt that we will make it to the hoovering cars and all that.
-Juggalette givin MMFWCL
a lot of futuristic stuff exists you just don't see it because it is not presented as a far fetched idea they are simple advancements. If you went back 20 years and show some one a normal cell phone from today they would be amazed. We don't look at things like that cause we grew up with things advancing at a certain rate.
I am not thinking they are going to have flying cars cause it just isn't practical yet the gas cost would make it pointless.
Oh we have all those things but the government is hiding them from us until the New World Order is able to push human population back down to 500,000,000.
I read it off the net and my sources were really good plus my inner chakra agrees. :P
When those early predictions were made they had no idea as to the level of technology they would need to have to make it happen. It's only now that we actually do have the ability to start working on these things with some success. In 50 years we will have flying cars and robot maids. Why? Because we can :) Not to mention rooms that talk to you, metal that heals itself and toilets that diagnose your health...those are on the market already.
me and a friend were talkin about this just yesterday and yes its not live it was thought to be but technology is also very advanced for even just 10 years ago and i think where nt to far off from flying cars and human like robots personally
Much is being witheld, humanity has evolved more than just what we see and hear on a daily basis. There are cures for diseases such as HIV and tumors which have already been found but it would cause huge economic failures and is in the interest of the powers that be for the rest of the world to remain ignorant.
we have hitech but we have problems too... every time human reaches at peak, clashes with own and destroyed...
there is problems of population pollution war and killing or moulding other living beings, there are other distant civilizations too in this universe
I should add that I am somewhat glad those predictions haven't fulfilled themselves yet. We have a tendency to create new technologies to fast. We get so busy thinking about rather or not we could and not enough on whether or not we should.
At any rate I can't wait to see what we come up with next. Michio Kaku's book "Visions" is a great read for those interested in such things.
I have read it, great read and for those interested a read of Nostramus's prophecies would not come amiss.
As long as the future doesn't bear any resemblance to Farenheit 451, 1981 or The Handmaids Tale I'll be happy :-)
None of these books are particularly technology-oriented, it's more about the drastic change in society's way of thinking, which to me is far more interesting than how high our cars will be driving or what gadgets we'll be relying on...
I fear the future portrayed in the Terminator saga may be part of our future.
With Rick Baker dying not too long ago...we have no fear in any Terminators being around.
George Orwell's 1984 is more about Government and them spying on you...well Bush is spying on normal Americans...so that could actually be true.
When the profit for such things goes into someones pocket. Ham stringing Technology is nothing new, look at when the recordable DVD came on market, They hit tech stores, the next day, yet the stores noticed that all their back stock of non- recording DVDs stopped selling, they pulled the recordables of the shelves..
they have created machine cpaapble ofcreating blackholes, will use for uderstanding our planet, tey se machine insteaof meditation and other psychic methods, which is nottested against the target, fear of creating blackhole some fear that it may create not ending backholes sometme and that will eat up the planet if done so. thats the effect f goingfast... machine i saw yesterday in the news it contain one shaft which have fans.
they have invented the machine for knowing the evolution of the earth, the machine is capable of producing blackholes but if any of blackholes donot end and started expanding, it will the whole planet, one petition is registered against the use of this machine in european union court.
the machine is big leboratory and in thecenter it has one big shaft and it shaft have big fans,
I dont think we will see it in our time. But maybe in our childrens or grandchildrens life time
there is just so much new technology that is coming out and alot of things still n the testing stages o who knows what the next year will bring
a hover car prototype was built by GM prior to 2000 it was determind during testing it was impractical for cost and safety...
I honestly do think there is much greater technology then the government is telling us. It seems that technology slows down a bit and then will skyrocket all of a sudden. At any rate there is no telling whats just around the corner.....
demonlovesyou - First I don't mean any offense.
People read "Black Hole Created in Lab" and never go any further than the headline.
There are 2 types of black holes (BH)
1) Stellar Mass BH
2) Micro/quantum BH
We can create micro bh's. Now for one, they tend to burn themselves out with in a few billionths of a second and secondly they can't grow without matter.
The bh's we make are kept in a machine that could literally magnetize pure H2O and could probably keep your soul (literally).
The bh couldn't even be let out of the device without being destroyed itself.
Stop worrying about what the American/European/Japanese scientists are doing (makeing the world a better place) and worry about that short guy in North Korea with his .5 kiloton joke of a bomb.
Smiles,

ah... all the talk of what the Future holds..... and very little talk of what the present has... or what the Past has taught us....
Every person has a hope that the Future will be a better place.... No war.... Cures for Diseases.... and Lots of wonderous Toys we can play with.....
let's focus on solving the problems of Today, so we can get to that wonderful Future a little quicker.
I want my flying moon car, and to go fishing for moon people in a crater. Im not so disapointed though for alot of things, sometimes I wish I could go back before cell phones and dependence on technology. When you had most of your fun OUTSIDE. And gas was 27 cents a gallon. But then I think WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT MY COMPUTER!! lol. I think these futuristic things will happen. Just wait, any day now.............
I know but there has been a lot of discoveries in the last 100 year, its been a big difference, and the moon missions, and understood a lot about the Universe...
I think by 2020 they should be thinking on sending man to Mars, and we need to improve space technology for future missions.
By the year 3000 it will be amazing what type of technology we will have. In 3000 the technology will be advanced and our knowledge will increase along with technology.
If were going to make it to Mars by 2020 they better start putting a little more funding into the space program. Seems like its taken the back burner for a while.
well if all goes as thought out by maney that i hhave heard from they made flying cars and all they got to do know is make it so the flying cars have smaller wings i beleave some where in wikipidea or google should help suppy pictures of this tho i watched it on tv myself on how they was working on that and making it so that soon all cars will be obsolete ^^. as for the rest they are trying to make hovering objects tho still much work and tweaking to be done they should soon crack the error's and pull it off. I also seen froms some inside info i gathered of others by mystake that there are fact human like robots that look human like and japan is one of the allied proidence's that has made a successful one that you cant tell the difference tho this is not fully yet to be proven 100% true it is happening and this furture can change befor we know it.

we are making steps to make these products. I think they will be here soon, and some things do wxist and will only get better with time
Just hope we control the technology, and not the other way around. The internet has insinuated its siren call into my psyche. If my laptop could clean house and give me a massage, I'd be doomed.
We already have cars that hoover. Robots that do most of our jobs in the industrial& science field. Keep up the likes of that & no more jobs for anyone. Give slow tech so we humans can do right with this info. How about feed the hungry & no war would be great.
People! Punctuation, spelling, and grammar are awesome!
Moving on. Yes, there are certain technologies and advancements that are solely for the military and other government use. Yes, there is classified R&D that goes on in secure governemnt facilities. But you know what? That's the kind of thing that won WWII. You know, little thing called nuclear armament. I hate to say it, but it's for your own good. If it was freely available, then our enemies, and "frienemies" could get hold of it, use it on us, and/or figure out how to protect against it or nullify it completely.
"George Orwell's 1984 is more about Government and them spying on you...well Bush is spying on normal Americans...so that could actually be true"
Is he now? Has he been hiding in your bushes? Following you to work? Tapping your phone lines? Rifling through your files? No "normal" Americans are being spied on. Read the laws, they're all readily available, much like the Buffet Grand is to play Baptisms and Secret Society Soires. I can tell you with ten-hundred percent certainty that if an American has nothing to do with a foreign power or crime, they are not being spied upon.
Remember friends; Big Media is not here to help you, it's here to put money in the pockets of fat white men.
To insult is to be rude.
Lets see..The Patriot Act
The Bill he passed to tap american citizens phones.
He wants make sure everyone has an ID card with personal info on the security strip.
Since 9/11 this country is slowly turning into a Police State.
What strikes me as funny is when i sometimes catch the orginal 'star trek' series which was made in the '60's. They had their own version of mobile phones, tzarars, cat scans etc (communicators, phasars,& med bays), and presumbly the makers of that series thought that sorts of technology was centuries away, so it just goes to show how fast we are progressing, especially when you think that little over 100 yrs ago people were still getting around on horses!
An Agency will revel Alien technology, we will scrape all our existing technology for the new alien technology, a scandle will be exposed shortly after exposing a massive hoax.
Lets keep politics out of this for goodness sake. This is a thread about future technologies and why the "Year 2000" hasn't brought them.
Not to mention political posts are NOT allowed, period.
I hold profit as the slug for advancement. No monopoly potential (in services, or parts etc.) and tech makers don't get funding. Medical devices stumped for lack of funds, because a rival company holds a part patent.
I have a couple of cars that fly and all I have to do is throw them and they fly......j/k hehehhe had to for laughs but no seriously we have come along way from the days of our grandparents and shit i mean black and white tv's big o'l boxey looking cars big ass phones and computers who ever thought that you could store so much stuff in just a little chip go figure the future is here and it's only getting more hi-tech
How many years after GPS was invented, Was it made available to civilians, yet alone civilian rescuers? The back stocking of technology
. What makes companies continue to build fragile lap tops, when there are "Tough Designs all over Europe. Cell phones started as near indestructable, yet now they break with a 3 foot slide. we move onto the next niffty feature yet bypass the formers flaws. Disposable mentality coupled with Back Stacking. We get the next coolest feature, and mistake that for some great new thing, the last great thing fades never being developed. Like who ever heard of vacuum tubes..
MysticTraveller, they had a show, I cant remember what network it was on, but it was called "How William Shatner changed the world". It was about the gadgets in Star Trek and the people who invented cell phones, medical scanners, etc. and interviews on how they were huge trekkies. Alot of tech was inspired by it.
What's wrong with Vacuum tubes? Some of the best stuff used vacuum tubes. Ahh the classics. :) Nothing like the hum and a warm glow from an old radio late at night.
How quikly we passed the vacuum tube, I mean a junior high student should be able to make a Vacuum tube, in the same way that I can go to a frontier village and Churn Butter. How often do we fully appriciate the current technology.. or question the flood of "new tech". What motive is fueling or advancement. Have we blinked and found the next best thing.. followed a week later by the next best thing 2.0 with its 2.0 problems.
I can agree with that. The more complicated something is, the more can go wrong with it. Im sure they'll work the bugs out eventually. ^.-
The piece by piece advancement.. how long can we keep-up with the hyper obsololution game of technology.
I think we are really close to getting the technology that was said we'll have by 2000. we're advancing everyday. :)
They are already here, but our government is keeping it out of the media and out of our hands right now. In time we will be seeing them.
Cases like the GPS support your post, Mega Corporate wrangling would also account for the slowing of development of 3.0 tech.
Game Tech? Like Video games? I can't even use those things anymore. I remember the old 8 bit Nintendo, Super NES was great too. But thats it. Now they just have too much going on. 4 joysticks, 12 buttons, a trigger, switches. What happened to UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, START, SELECT, A, B? Too complicated, just wire it into my head, It would take less coordination.
People can barely drive with vehicles on the road. I could just imagine the accidents if they were all in flying cars.
Think about the pill cameras they have people take to check out there throat and stomach as well their intestines.
People have all this technology already and the reason you're still seeing the same old broken down trailer tracter is because technology makes people lazy. I went to a mall one day and the up escalator was broken.. Well, any THINKING person would just say "hey, look, stairs" and keep walking anyway, right? But no, people were going all the way around the mall to use the other escalator and looking at me funny because i was walking up some stairs. Technology makes people lazy, it makes people fat, it makes them dependant. I prefer to do everything myself, personally. *shrugs* Builds character and discipline. :P
Lol, yes. The store I used to work at, the escalator was always breaking down. Most people went across the store to take the elevator rather than climb the stairs. Like it was going to bite them.
things are on the rise even still and its only a matter of time really and the advance os todays technology who konws really what will happen all i do know is i hope we are ready for all the changes.
I'm hoping that people will get so lazy from all this that they get too lazy to invent anymore. Seriously, I'm tired of all this useless crap they're coming out with. Some of it's useful, sure. But what about all the extra crap that we don't need. What ever happened to simplicity? And what's with all the damn noise making toys!?!?! I didn't have all that when I was little. You know what my favorite toy was? Dirt... and I had sooooooo much fun! Now they got gameboys, they're own tv's and computers.. and they want to come and tell me that they're bored? Boy get your ass outside and play in the mud! Something... jeez... Our children will end up fat.. oh wait, they're already there. Nevermind! Rant ended. lol
What about the larger airports with the moving walkways??bad enough they are too lazy to "walk" up stairs but too lazy to actually WALK.
Brain freeze unless its for cures. Time to take a step back & look to see were we are going. (PS-hoover cars are made for Mars uneven terrain, not for public use.)
I think alot of technology is held back from us on many points for fear of others obtaining them. technology has surely surpassed through the ages and soon alot of it shall be brought forth with new stuff being held back. it seems that is how it always has been, yet in the 50's when the statement was said about the year 2000 they were just getting technology that they never had seen when the where children.
i agree with myarmymylife i mean they are getting so far ahead they actually prettymuch found a way to alter gene's threw gene splicing to make it so you dont die of old age and quite possibly not age at all at least so i seen threw a video in sciene class and some think because of this amonst other stuff that they are god and proclaiming that god him-self is pretty much notthing which that statement in it's self is showing some major flaws to where they get this from. i can only sit back and hope for the best if it keeps up shucks they got a way of cloneing people and most anything else tho its very costly.
The application of technolgy lacks distribution, here we are with Games that hit dynamic proportions, in every third household, yet we don't even have Text Books, let alone computers in class rooms. Niche markets will stagnate, that niche is that we want entertainment to dominate or technology, as well as have a secondary application. Priority in distribution of technology in application.
Well six nations are advancing the aliens project i this world and they are co-operating this area each other. they have their own field too. and the gliding objects been seen in those nations too.
hmmm you know it seems to me apon further speculation that maney new things have yet to come and it could be the ever exspanding growth of the worlds population and the needs for work that strive them to grow smarter and thus more scientist's to inventing ways to further the world with new costly thrills that in rectrospect will be our own very down fall.
would you trade your foot for a flying car (clerks moment)
I was at least hoping for something like completely 3d television at the least
i think we have most of these futeristic thigs, just o9nly a select few people have them because to have knowledge, you have to be wealthy.
Computers!
Television!
Radio!
We have all the futuristic things that people dreamt of a long, long time ago, we're just so used to it, we don't see it.
Give it a few centuries at most, and we'll probably have all of that stuff.
USA is very fast moving towards future development.
Its project of underground cities from 1000 meter to 2.5 miles below the surface beneath the ground is very speedy in the progress. 136 such cities are projected and fast work on it is going on and these cities will be connected with each other by tunnel railway at teh speed of mac1 to mac 2.
It will lay the lead of the world after 50 years.
mm i beleave some of theses things are around but there being hidden from us.
i mean the goverment is god at hiding things to good if you ask me lol***
i think we may already have a few of these items however i do not think we have gotten to flying cars yet lol i kind of hope we don't
If I were writing a dissertation as to why the technology being developed is probably way too advanced for the 7.0E9 primates that occupy this planet... I would probably reference some of the VR forum posts regarding science and technology.
Yes its true govts always hide due to national security.
even they are allied to aliens yet not came to this conclusion but they found the alien in 1940s decade. and after that only project blue book came into existence and they restricted dulce area and area 51 immediately.
I believe all ready here, the government tends to hide alot from us, there are ailiens, and are hidden, some times I wonder if when we meet people if they are real or ailliens or robotic, they make robots like humans now as real as humans, good question
i dont think that in our life time that we should go there to that flying car and robot future, we have already half destroyed the earth so i think we should lay low and wait for this global warming and hurricans and stuff to die down and then continue on our technology goal and find other sources of energy. whether they are keeping it from us i mean they could be but i dont really see the reason that they should be
flying cars are already in production there is a company in the uk who have made one!!!
Taking each of your furturistic items in order:
Flying cars: From the Runway to the Road: Terrafugia Redefines the Flying Car—Make That Drivable Airplane
Aerospace, Aviation, Startups
Inventors are sure cars can fly
New Technology for Flying Cars
Hovering buildings: Haven't seen anything on them. Hover technology is in the works. Futuristic architecture is not out of the question, but whether there will be hovering buildings is debatable:
Futuristic Rotating Tower Skyscraper in Dubai
Floating Ecopolis for Climate Refugees
Robots that can behave like real people: You must have missed the news about ASIMO, a robot designed by Honda Motor Co., conducting the Detroit Symphony.
Robot Conductor Leads Detroit Symphony
ASIMO Humanoid Robot
Remember, there was a guy named Jules Verne who wrote, "From the Earth to the Moon" in 1865 and another named H.G. Wells who wrote, "The First Men in the Moon" in 1901. It finally happened July 20th, 1969.
There is plenty of futuristic technology testing and inventing going on: Hover Technology, Nanotechnology, Stealth technology, Robotics, to name a few. Unfortunately, if any technology comes on the market for personal use, I think that only the people with big bucks will be able to afford it.
they said the world will die in 2008 lol , and they said alot of bulshits , and about what u were talkin about i think it will happen in 3000 :)
2012 is the end of the world. Till the next end of the world. Who cares like I can stop it. Like the little things that help all like cell phones, heat sensors for firemen to "see" in a burning building. Do not need to live on mars yet, we messed up this on already.
When the end comes, it will be us that brings it. I'ts not going to be some specific date.
We probably won't invent them for hundreds of years yet. Human technology has advanced a lot in the past 100 years. Things like 'hover cars' are much more advanced than anything around now so it will take a longer time.
A point of fact - We've had hover-crafts for 50 years. The problem is in the noise, fuel and stability of it.
We have advanced a lot in the past 100 years and you can mathematically plot our progress for the past several thousand years and correctly predict our progress for the next 100 years.
The reason why we can't go to much further than 100 years in the future is due to the change of technological foundations and the difficult issue of predicting quantum movements. Trust me, it took 5,000 years to go from arrows to AK-47's it won't take another 5,000 years to travel to the stars.
On the whole "government secrecy" thing I wonder what would have happened during the Gulf War or even throughout the Cold War if the "bad" guys had GPS? How about modern weapons that could be used to save many lives but currently can't be publicized because more could die than would be saved?
I do not like the US government or 150 years of past US gov. but that doesn't negate the fact that the Federal Gov. is still the most trustworthy (and secure) body out there. Some of you young people scare me, the choice to save many lives at the cost of many is never an easy one nor is it something we just jump into. Yay for conspiracies! lol
Technology has evolved at an accelerated rate during the past 25 years and will continue to surpass even what we can imagine. Becareful what you ask for, it may come true and you might not like it.
I think we are advancing at a incrediable rate. Not as fast as they thought we would back in the 80's and 90's. We now have robots that can move like the human race. I believe as each year passes we will see some amazing things come to the fore.
A century ago in America, we were just leaving the expansion period of our history. We were just entering the Victorian era, heading for the industrial era. Now look at us a century later. Sure we are not living like "Metropolis yet", but an ice man is not putting a slab of ice in a box, and you are not being pulled by a horse either. I marvel at all the changes I have witnessed in my 37 years of life. I think we will have this new wonderful technology sooner, rather than later. The question is are we smart enough to use it properly?
Are we really ready for it?
We have better artificial Limbs, We need water treatment.. what incentive is there for break through, I think it goes for application. If a millionaire every gets thirsty we may get our water treatemnet, sadly psuedo science has made promises, and then like always not delivered (after collecting investments) so getting funding gets harder and more involved then developing things.
Dab - What form of water treatment are you talking about? Waste or salt water?
Throughout the Middle East and Africa several salt water treatment plants are being built. The reason why they don't have "water independence" is because it takes a huge sum of money to build them and they require massive amounts of energy.
Even though we can make a black hole the best way to get clean water from salt water is a mix of boiling and reverse osmosis.
The plant in Carlsbad, Ca. cost $270 million and serves 100,000 households.
I strongly believe that such technology already exists and those with the money, mainly our government has such technology. Think about for a min. Cell phones, lasers, gps systems etc. Some of which the government has expanded the technology beyond consumer use and made weapons out of. For instance James Bond and his neat gadgets.
Isnt the Hover Craft a form of floating car? it does the same proberly not as far up as we would like. But it does float on air. If they can create that I am sure that cars floating higher would be possible sooner then latter.
It only takes one person to come up with an idea and put it into place.
One of the biggest hindrances to innovation is the patent system -which is ambiguous at best. One man - one idea just doesn't work anymore.
yes time accelerated very fast and now the accelerating machine now to be tested tomorrow.
Large hadron collider
see little interesting info I love to see their test and impact ....
they are fool and without ttested they tell us teh cpapability of the machine. they should test it first.
the basic info here:
* Though built to study the smallest known building blocks of all things -- known as particles -- the LHC is the largest and most complex machine ever made. It has a circumference of 27 km (17 miles) - (Reuters) - Following are five facts about the 10 billion Swiss franc (5 billion pounds) Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which will smash together particles at close to the speed of light after its start-up on Wednesday at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN):
* Though built to study the smallest known building blocks of all things -- known as particles -- the LHC is the largest and most complex machine ever made. It has a circumference of 27 km (17 miles) and lies 100 metres (330 feet) under the ground, straddling French and Swiss territory.
* At full power, trillions of protons will race around the LHC accelerator ring 11,245 times a second, travelling at 99.99 percent the speed of light. It is capable of engineering 600 million collisions every second.
* When two beams of protons collide, they will generate temperatures more than 100,000 times hotter than the heart of the sun, concentrated within a miniscule space. Meanwhile, the cooling system that circulates superfluid helium around the LHC's accelerator ring keeps the machine at minus 271.3 degrees Celsius (minus 456.34 degrees Fahrenheit).
* To collect data of up to 600 million proton collisions per second, physicists and scientists have built devices to measure the passage time of a particle to a few billionths of a second. The trigger system also registers the location of particles to millionths of a metre.
* The data recorded by the LHC's big experiments will fill around 100,000 dual-layer DVDs each year. Tens of thousands of computers around the world have been harnessed in a computing network called "The Grid" that will hold the information.
I think we have stuff come out all the time. When cell phones came out they were from the future, we also have battery operated cars. We have robots, and there will be more to come. What comes next and when who knows
Are you saying the LHC is a time machine?
There is nothing mystical, nothing new in practice only scale. "Turning it on" is testing it, we're not about to blow up a multi-billion dollar device or put people at risk.
It really amazes me at how much controversy this thing has generated. They're going to throw protons together and record data..the end lol.
If people are scared we might unleash the big bang or a black hole on earth (neither is possible) I can't wait until it becomes common knowledge that we have an ever growing supply of anti-matter flying around in a few devices.
Technology is perpetually changing, however innovations are restricted by economic growth. Because of being raped at the gas pump daily, this economy is on the verge of the first serious depression- as opposed to recession, in 79 years. If and when we actually pull out of this, technological advances will likely thrive.
Seriously, I had this very thought the other day when "back to the future" was on the television. I didn't watch it because I've watched it enough like 12 years ago, LOL. But yeah, where's the flying Delorians and the self cleaning kitchen? They do have some of the technology already becoming part of our lives.... the the "Roomba" vacuum cleaner. I couldn't fathom flying cars in this life time, but would be excited to own a solar powered one.
I think we already have a lot of these things, and they are NOT hidden. Just look at how we are communicating right now! Over the internet. Webcams are not that far off how the Jetsons 'called' people.
Quite frankly many new technologies have evolved! From smaller computers, to lap-tops, to cell phones, to Blue tooth, to HD tv, DVR's, to cameras that look like flies - and all the new technology you would know about if you check out the Discovery and Science channels on tv!
Many of the new technology is not readily available to the public and when it does become available only the rich will be able to benefit from it's release.
There are also many developments that we will never hear about until the government decideds it is ready to share it.
Honestly - think back to when we were kids (ok showing my age here, lol) and all we had was Pong - now we have the X-box360 jeez! Never would have imagined we would come that far in such a small amount of time.
