It is said that sometimes when a spirit is in the area, the air around their presence gets colder. Has anyone here ever felt a coolness in the air and attributed it to a spirit? If so, did other sensations or sounds accompany the cold air?
What are your opinions on why the air gets cooler?
There is are a few things that can account for pockets of air .. cooler and even warmer then the atmosphere in a house of area.. even the vacuum effect can account for a number of experiences, these are used in haunting effects. They can be enhanced as well for added affect.
Yeah...I experienced SOMETHING that made me feel cold to the bones and I smelled a lemony-flowery scent.
I never knew what it was but I could only assume it was some type of spirit.
I've combined your two threads since they can be answered in one just as easily.
yes when i was working the graveyard shift at a local cematery there was a grave that the air went cold aronf at 0248
This is very common. People say this all the time. The TAPS team on SCI-Fi often refers to the temperature changing when they are on a mission to find a ghost or spirit. It has happened to me but I was never very clear on if it was only a draft or something else.
I've felt that... it was cold and I felt like something was there and it made my hair on my arms and the back of my neck stand on end.... shortly afterwords things kept getting moved around and making a bunch of noise.
Every now and then i get a strong familiar smell like my late grandmother's kitchen. I get different smells and they come from out of no where.
Many have stated that when they feel a presence the air in the room or area seems colder, whether its the abnormal affects of the energy of the spirit or the sudden heightened effect of being scared of the person. i have yet to feel this or notice it.
I have felt the air become chillier before and my spine will tingle LOL My mom says someone is walking over your grave.. what exactly that means not sure since I am not yet in the grave.... or maybe we have walked over a place where some one died or was buried..
once I smelt lavander when the air chilled as well. Oh well.. it could be anything I feel.
I have never experienced a chill in the air. I perform innvocations and the room heats up, it does not cool down. Yet, I perform burn offerings.
I have felt a chill in the air around cemetreries and when i have seen spirts (mostly when i was a child i saw my g -grandmother) but i don't know why the air temprature drops. Perhaps the spirts are drawing energy from the atmosphere, therefore the ambient air temp drops?? Just a guess.
Yes when a spirit is around the air is cold. May have to do with the fact that they are dead
The air temp may drop because of the energy taken by the spirit. I have never felt that chill before but I think it could also come from the feeling of the person seeing the spirit.
the air gets cooler due to the fact a spirit needs energy to be visual.. So the air gets cool cuz the spirit uses lots of energy to show itself.. that is at least what i heard.
I wonder why they never use fixed thermal imagine cameras, they have every other scope, and meter, (usually out of focus, or bouncing about) how about fixed cameras, ones that stay in a claimed area that has had tempurature fluxes, I mean where is the so called investigators, investigation activity, stake out, finding motive for a haunting, I always wanted to bust ghost, so I studied the ways of ghost, and I have actually busted a few ghost for people.. now they have a ghost story to share, something that once frightened them, (at a hyper sensative time in there life) it actually had to do with this topic, what appeared to be a poltergeist(and they had been adament about the activity.. ) I found their ghost and even trained it for them. What made the ghost haunt their house? A Vacuum. And a shift in tempurature in their hall.. even things falling of the hall walls. posters being ripped.. doors being slammed, passing "invisible things" in the halls.. all vacuum phenomena, they had a wonderful house for such activity actually, a mock modern victorian, great for the ghost story they adopted after their ghost had been busted. They sold the house and even passed on the details of the "ghost".
Well in the underground vaults that the tour company I work for goes to, we have what we call the Haunted Vault because that is where 95% of the 'poltergeist' attacks occur. Weirdly, there is always cool air coming from that vault and people often notice spots of blistering cold. There is no ventilation and no way that cool air could enter this vault, very bizarre indeed.
I have had that same sensation twice in my life where certain areas were cold and yet all around me it was warm. I had no accompanying scent. I have to wonder because I have had that same sensation in water before and more often. Could there be some scientific reason for this?
Yes Petal, its called evaporation. We talked about this very thing in another thread...Physically paranormal signs I believe.
I have felt cold air and also the hair standing up on the back of my neck. Why I dont know.
I can share a method for creating a thermal appartion that is actually recordable. o Camera tricks.and I can do it with one trip to a hardware store, improvided ans set up in 3 minutes. with a second trip I can frost a room. How about cold fingers on the shouler, or a cold pasing "spirit" Fog is a moist thing it actually soaks lightly a person, they fill chill in the air. Yet I do admit I like the chill effect of a graveyard as well. I like a good ghost tour as well. Especial with a spookable plush girl next to me. I asurre you that was a warm night in a cemetery.
i have felt cool air wen i feel a spirit around me before but not everytime i feel a spirit do i feel the cool air. and i have no clue whats its cause
I have felt the cold air and the hair stand up. I also believe that animals can sense the presence of spirits as they go wild.
Spirits are around us no matter what sometimes a chill in the air wont be the only thing you feel. The chill's are often found along with dizziness, and goosbumps at least for me.
true very true. It can be a warm day and you feel the cold, get goosebumps. I feel everyone is effected by different means.
I was in a room once with my brother, he got goosebumps and I felt a cold chill yet he didnt.
I feel it really depends on the person. We all react to things different ways. So it wouldnt be strange that we react to the presents of a spirit differently. I saw a program on TV where people went into a haunted building and everyone acted different. One you could see them expelling cold air another was just down right freaking out.
I think the chill is the most one people talk about or the hair standing up.
I actually get that quite often.... I frequent an old haunt ground here in ny, and the minute i walk in there no matter how how it is there are some ice chiling spots there and thats when i just getting that cold shiver running down my spine . Doesnt happen to often. But it always does there.
I dont just get the one thing. I think it would be good if only one occured all the time so then you be able to hit it straight on the head what is happening.
Could this be one of our missing senses at work here? We all have this ability to feel the presents of a spirit via what ever means, could this be in fact one of our missing senses.
I think Ill chime in here..Did you know that if you happen to be in a place where a strong electromagnetic field fluctuates you can feel it? By way of chilled air, tingling and the like and other manifests? It does this on its own accord,it is a natural occurance as well as a man made one..I think youll find that wherever there is ghost activity, you will more likely than not find water too.Doesnt mean its ghosts.Or..maybe it does and its just that our idea of a ghost is a tad bit skewed? And because we dont fully understand the science of something we tend to chalk it up as paranormal? Not discounting anyones thought or beliefs here,Just posting food for thought.
one way for a chill in the air to come is when the temperature drops or clouds move & cover the sun =P
I have heard this alot, but the only times I actually get a chill is when I am really spooked about something - it's like my body reacts to what it thinks will come.
As of yet, I have not experienced it the way the other posters have.
I cannot explain WHY the air became cold, but my daughter and I went to visit her father before he was air lifted from GFK"s to MN....he had a brain aneurysm. My daughter and I were on the way home in the truck and I had felt the air get cold and there was a presence.......my daughter felt it too, I turned to her and said , "your father just died" ! Two minutes later , the cell phone was ringing , the call came in , he had passed.
Was he really there? Ya know,.... I think so......if someone had not ever experienced this sort of thing for themselves, HOW then , can they have a opinion on it without a common frame of reference!
i think its a cool breeze that we feel becasue spirits are so light and wispy. Plus it gives them a way to touch us. i get cold chills all the time, but i usualy just see shadow people.
I don't think the feeling affects all people, considering I never feel such a "temperature drop" as described, although I don't doubt that it is possible.
Personally I feel more of a feeling of sorrow and sadness. A friend of mine feels the same thing, yet he is more attuned to it. He tends to get the same feeling of misery accompanied by sudden strong headaches that leave again soon after we pass it by in the car...
Yeah, I attribute it to the spirit drawing energy. But natural cold spots happen too, that aren't caused by spirits. I've experienced some cold spots that I think may have been spirits. Nothing major happened, I just felt them being there. The "third eye" senses them and I feel that. If that makes sense.
I have no idea why the air gets colder but I had an experience when I felt cold air pass and then I smelt something extremely bad and then I looked at my wrist and saw three cuts.
They were small but burned like hell.
Then there is the old stand-by sulfur smell.. with a static presence..
Or the spotting something move out of the corner of your eye.. and the breathing out in the hall.. whoooo Whoooo
The thing that freaked me out a bit was when i was in my old farm house was every once in a while i would smell roses and it would be cold.. hmmm..
I wonder if some of these incidences this could be synesthesia ?
In theory, there can be as many types of synesthesia as there are sensory modality pairings. It is estimated there are up to around thirty-five or so different subtypes. Some of these include taste-hearing (hearing a sound produces a taste) or sound-touch (feeling an object produces a sound). Some of these subtypes, are more common. The most common subtypes are color-graphemic, in which letters and/or numbers (and occasionally shapes), these types produce colors and simple patterns, and color-auditory, in which auditory input, voices, music, and random noise, produces colors, textures, and shapes.
Personally what I find the chilled air to be for me is something that is always there, I just have to focus on it, which is more of refreshing cool drink for my spirit, I find much of the energy I feed upon from that chilled air, its almost like translucent water with a life of its own, but thats just me ;)
I have felt a chill in the air yet for many different reasons, I know that sometimes it is due to temp. changes and the other times is usually when I have been in cemetries . It is not uncommon to feel a chill, it can be caused by many reasons and some is I feel also of the paranormal kind as well as weather etc. just an opinion. LOL
Interesting Oceanna Synthesia, I will be looking into that. I have heard that people on Jimsum Weed or Detura are subject to such things.
Yes,Dab,but this has nothing to do with any kind of psychotropic or hallucinogen. It is thought to manifest after a trauma that causes Neuropathways remap.
call me crazy but i have feel a chill in the air and was not sure why but have feel it a couple time but only when i was around someone that was past away . have no clue as to way it happen .
I fully understand, I was noting something that ties in slightly.
Ok gotchya Dab.And I do see your point. There are many substances that can cause damage that might cause something like this to happen as well.
I have only experienced a chill in the air when the temp changes yet some friends of mine say they feel it when they are in a cemetery... I guess anything is possible.
What can be accounted for is the low fog settling on a person when they are still. then when they move they create a sensation of a breeze. I count on this effect actually. For one very spooky effect.
ive never witnessed the cold air and sweet sickly scent myself but have had a friend say he was visited and these things happened! my borther in a medium and tells me of the affects spirits leave behind ! he goes to spiritual church and has many stories of the dead!!!
I believe this is caused by the spirit or entity drawing energy from around it causing areas where the energy has been pulled from to go cold. Of course in certain areas you have to make sure there is no chance of drafts...
More than once , the air got colder and then i felt a chill in my spine and felt like i was being watched!
pretty creepy feeling
I have felt a chill in the air and sensed someone nearby - but did not see anything.
I have had a spirit living with me for about 23 years now. She follows me every time I move. When she moves close to me I do feel a cold air. The hair on the back of my neck will stand up also. Sometimes I will feel a breeze.
Actually, yes I have. I have felt a really cold breezs and then a feeling of absolute fright. So bad i couldn't even move. it happened in the barn at my aunts old house. She lived clear out in the stick surrounded by a corn field. The funny thing was that it wasn't even dark out. The sun was still up and everything. it wasn't exactly a breeze though, the air just turned into ice. And then an extremely awful smell like rotten eggs. I later read that this is a sign of "demonic infestation." First you will hear loud noises of some sort, then a freezing cold breeze followed by a nasty odor. Creepy.
I've felt a cool almost chilled breeze in the middle of intense heat. It was odd at the time but I never thought about the possibility of it being a spirit.
We experience cold spots in my family home but tend not to think anything of them. However, while living in halls at university for the second year, but in a different flat from first year, we would often come across a cold spot in the centre of one corridor or slightly off to the left hand side. We could never find a reason for it. Windows and doors in that area of the flat didn't seem to affect it. There was no pattern to its presence. However, you knew there would be a cold spot before you reached it because the corridor would be filled with an awful sense of foreboding.
I have used ice water sprayed to make people think a ghost walked pass them, it works great.
Bully:P
I have a friend who believes that a ghost is haunting her pinto because her windshield wipers come on by themselves.
I swear...she believes this.
I think that in some instances people WANT to believe they are being haunted and so they feel things that aren't really happening. The mind playing tricks and such.
How would you really tell unless something showed itself to you?
That's true too. But as far as I know, for it to definitely be a spirit a lot more than a chill has to occur. Otherwise it could just be a cold chill! lol. If it's accomodated by a foul odor and any form of loud noises; such as banging, smashing, crashing, knocking (ETC) it is a sign of demonic infestation. ;)
Or a really shitty roommate who leaves the windows open.
Exactly. I think that people like to blame a lot of things on the supernatural when in fact there is usually a rational explanation. I do believe in ghost, spirits, dem0ons, (ETC) but in most cases, like described above as a cold chill, usually have a rational explanation. I have read that when a spirit passes through a persons body, they will turn cold. Do I believe that? I think quite possibly.
It would stand to reason that if a spirit actually passed through a living person they might feel chilled. Death is cold.
However, I'd need more from a person than they felt a cold chill to believe that they'd had a spirit pass through them.
Exactly! And for a person to think that a ghost is around them because of a cold chill alone is a somewhat dim witted person wouldn't you say?
I have never experienced the change in air temperature but have experienced unexplained "familiar" scents or odors
well seeing as i live with three spirits i can say yes the pull the engery out of the near by area and make cold spots
I guess my question has to be...how do you know you live with three spirits?
I mean....what else besides the cold made you believe it?
I'm curious.
On has to rule out people playing on the imagination, once one states they are haunted, it is a temptation for those that like to craft effects to amuse themselves at the expense of the person that is attempting to project there limited view of things that can have an actual explanation. Nothing more annoying then a friend that insist they saw a ghost, trying to scare others who happen to know that the glass door leaning against the back yard fence catches the light just right. Only when others tell them this fact the person that "saw a ghost" will persist. Very likely the annoyed party will take advantage of the persons irrational perspective.
I lived across from a cementary for nine years and I could feel a cold chill in the air.
i beleive that when a spirit is present its colder
i dont know why its that way
but i guess there is reason to beleive
im sure we all experienced
getting chills n all randomly
Oh when the air is chilled or the thunderbolt is going on there (lightning), and at teh same time when I get subconscious dub, I have to take paracitamol tablet that day or evening coz of I am infected viralsome the paracitamol protect me from viral fever... but that day i am in the catch of fever.
I have witnessed the so called chill in the air. I always do when im visiting my neighborhood graveyard. Sometimes, though, there are spirits/graves that are actually quite warm. I still havent came across the reason why this is but i do think it is possible that when it is warm that the spirit/soul is sleeping. I am a medium so there are bunches of feelings that go through my body when encountered.
I've experienced that. One too many times. my mom is a paranormal investigator......but anyways.
A spirit uses the energy around it to thrive. So when it colds it means its using energy in that general area.
But I have been choked, slapped, shoved, and have been whispered to.
Usually means there is an evil presents. Or someone who has passed on hasn't settled. Means diff things to diff people.
I have rigged candles to sway to unfelt wind, it is an involved effect actually. Wind can be simulated as well. Chimes sounding in a draft free house are a real crowd pleaser, in ghost craft. As are false panels in hall ways.
i always thort that when you shudder its when a spirit passes through you.
I get a chill alot when im near cemetarys and churches also when i am in houses i can sense a present of something other then me being there
some spirts do make you feel a chill down your spine witch makes your body colder so when you breath out you have that breath effect
YES i have i lived in this two story house and the basment was the coldest room in the house. i did some research of my own and found out that the house caught fire years ago and a whole family was trapped in the basement when it caught fire they all died so now there spirits are trapped down there intell some one solves the mystery on how it happened its very sad buy true. some times they would talk to a roomate of mine or they would take his stuffed monkey.
Yes the chill is common.. Also a heaviness around you..
There is more than just cold chills, usually it is accompanied by strange sounds, images, smells, etc...and why people would only think of the chill just by being a ghost is as to why you are sure you have everywhere closed, heater on and you feel that chill or it happens at a particular place only, I am not surprised people would wonder why. I do when it happens to me. Why the cold chill is associated with ghosts I don't know I'd justguess a simple and obvious answer, cause they have no body therefore no warmth?
I experienced the chills thing once in Mansfield Prison. There were a series of three connected rooms and the cool presence would move between the three rooms. It was rather freaky because you could follow it around between the three rooms.
It really does prove that it doesn't take much to spook, or make people believe in ghost being "present".
Oh yes that intrigues me
When the hairs behind my
neck prickle I turn as fast
as I can to see if I see something
I had that chill in the air feeling
once while visiting a friend
who was irresponsibly
using Wicca spells and a
foul odor filled the room
when there around i feel the coldness on the back of my neck. depending on the spirit if its a bad depress one you will feel much colder. then one that died happy.
i wish to yalk to spirit yet opportunity did not come to me...
