In your own personal opinion, do you think that since the new Twilight Movie came out that peoples awareness for vampires has boosted, but is it in a good way or bad?
And would you consider it a matter of wanting the lifestyle, or is it Edward?
I would love to know what people think on this matter..
South Park already did an episode on this and for me at least, they had it pretty right on. Aside from being hilariously true, the fact that our young people and some not so young are so easily impressionable and feel so desperate to fit it just sickens me.
Right now being a Vampire is "trendy." It's like when Nirvana became cool and "grunge" was no longer being lazy or dirty, it was rad.
twilight worsen my inner and put a load on my mind and senses, it make my subconscious dubbed, thats why I escape twilight and remain that time out of home at least 30 minutes in the evening. this twilight in reality do sock my chakras... and makes me feel that chest and back is socked if i m at home.
I've never heard it said better venumstings. Socking your chakras is unacceptable.
Dont be put off by the...Up tights...
I think its safe to say that twilight has brought many people to this scene and you know whats going to happen? Those influenced by twilight are going to break away from those who think that vampire's arent like edward cullen and form there own little group in which they talk about the equivilent of a sang and psy vampire's, anyone with a problem with that needs to stop contradicting themselfs lol
Yes whenever I am at home evening in twilight of evening time, I do feel framed and my body aches of feversome inside a lot, I have to take pills some time due to not able to absorb such dark pain. its impact clearly on my conscious as the things vision becomes blur that time and nothing to do with any kind of pressure, for I have no abnormal blood pressure etc. But as soon as twi light period passes, i become okay. its not the matter to me that you believe it or not, but i revealed you whatever is my matter. But whenever I am away from home and busy with nature or in market, nature keepme okay and fills the energies that time natural aura is overhauling that time.
Oh, I see what you meant venumstings. You're referring to the actual twilight, the fall of light between night and day.
It is a very exciting period, much more so than dawn in my experience. It's a period of resolution and concession of day matters to night matters, of day creatures to night creatures. The lurkers venture forth.

Don't kidd yourself ~Faceless~, do you really think that it is safe to say that the movie has brought many individuals to this scene? I disagree whole heartedly. Twilight was just another movie for the pippy twats that just needed another movie to fuel whatever desires they have in their little hearts.
Vampires are NOT like Edward Cullen. I speak from experiance on this FACT. The stereotype may be, but not the vampire itself. The influencial base of both Mr. Cullen and Twilight bare no significance on me since I speak for myself alone here.
I am vampire because I have certain instincts as well as several distinct attributes. Do not bunch me up with a character from a "movie."
Society always flocks to anything that pleases it, specifically influencial movies, books, or telly shows. This does not mean that they are vampire. They are simply kids who are influenced because they have not figured themselves out yet. Let them grow the way they wish and watch them as always. Roleplaying and lifestyling are on a very thin line that is crossed at times. But this does not mean they are accepted as "vampires." Just kids who think they are something other than their true selves. Just be who you are already.
To all wannabe. Yes, the movie is great, the same as the book. But, Do not confuse reality with hollywood. To be a Vampire, just like on the movie, Never will work out.
I love the twilight saga because the books are really entertaining. But I am not one of those crazy fans and I do not want to marry Edward Cullen.
I am totally aware of the fact that reality and fiction are separate things.
And, yeah I agree that the fans seem to have taken it a bit too far. They are too crazed.
I can't see why it would be bad that people has started to be aware of the vampire world or whatever.
I don't believe that vampires exist in real life.
I think that for some fans it is that they are amazed by this world and that they just see it as great books and a great movie.
But for some fans it seems to be "team edward" or "team jacob" or whatever. And every teen-girl seem to think that she's Bella.
That is taking it too far, in my opinion; and that's when it becomes annoying for the rest.
I view the movie and the books that spawned it as a new genre, "vampire light". Less filling, and without fangs. It's appeal is to those that who really identify with the characters and not with the subject matter. It is more of a cult of personality than vampires, and appeals to those who fancy themselves in some romantic relationship with the main players. Definitely another "paranormal romance" themed story that if you took out the vampires would leave little else.

Again I say... the books were written for 'young readers'... so don't expect it to be adult material or blast it when it's really walking the walk of what it was meant for.
I don't think the majority of these fans want anything to do with the 'lifestyle'... they want to innocently fantasize like normal people do regarding fiction. It's really simple.
If you don't like things simply because they are trendy... then you are a conformer as well.
This is meant to be fiction. I don't get anyone trying to compare to real people and fact. You know what I am saying here? I don't chide little kids for watching Spongebob because it doesn't depict sponges in their true form, and that it's 'childish'- it is made for kids- for pineapples under the sea's sakes!
I also don't think authors and Hollywood even consider for an instant regular people living the vampire lifestyle when creating their art. The masses out there don't even realize these human vampires exist. So stereotyping I don't buy into. If people have chosen to use this legendary monster's title to describe themselves... the need to realize they don't 'own' the name, they aren't what people think of first or possibly even second when they hear the word, vampire.
If I decided the feline world was now mine, and I identified with them over my fellow humans... I would not be angry with DC comics for Catwoman because she stereotyped 'me'.
This is my point of view. I have friends here who identify themselves as vampires. That's fine. But this is my stance.
Images pretty much took the words from my mouth but I would like to point out that especially among teens a new popular thing comes up every year. Though marketing plays a big part of it. But it doesn't make them right or wrong, just young.
I've read and enjoyed the books but I did so knowing they were written for a youth audience and I got a good story for that age group. The movie was more of the same, I watched it with my 12 year old neice and looked at it from her view and we both laughed and enjoyed the show.
With luck what may happen is this movie or book will inspire others to write their own stories and I enjoy all the different viewpoints offered in their make believe worlds.
I don't see Twilight as trying to influence or offend those living a vampiric lifestyle, I don't think they even consider people live that way.
In the current trends of vampire literature, almost anything goes and authors are encouraged to create their own "world" of existance. Why not just enjoy the little side trips that they are meant to be?
I live in Washington. I am not sure about the impact on the vampire community.... Since most real vampires are ignoring it and mostly emo-kids like it. It was entertaining though (books and movie) and it was fabulous for the tourist industry in Forks and LaPush. Forks really is a simple typical rainy little coastal town. LaPush is better and they have a great camping style resort.
A better place to look for real vampires would be Seattle or Issaquah..... hahhaha
Honestly? I liked it better when the only people who knew what Twilight was, were the people who read the book. Once upon a time vampires were respected, but ever since the Twilight movie came out they have become a joke. A passing fad. It's sad to think that they have sunk to that level.

To be honest, were vampires ever respected?
The image of some body hiding in the shadows jumping out and going 'I vant to suck your vlood' doesn't exactly scream 'fear me'.

I fail to see were i said twilight had brought YOU to the scene, i was refering to the INFLUX in people coming this site due to the twilight books & movie. The same happens with any scene, you make a movie or a fantstic series of books, people go search the web for communities.
"I am vampire because I have certain instincts as well as several distinct attributes. Do not bunch me up with a character from a "movie.""
Are you kidding me? Being arrogent about something doesnt make you right, infact by that sentence you just strengthen my theory that this site is half full of wackos. Let me put this simply - Humans, Animals, Plants, Tree's and whatever else is on this earth has INSTINCTS. For example, i have the instinct to get angry and start shooting up threads when i have someone try and talk down to me. You dont like my opinion on what's what? Well tough luck, because its an opinion and its not going to change because you dont agree. Here's one little fact i will leave you with:
Fact: Vampire's are fictional creatures.
Im gonna say 9 times out of 10 its gonna be 15 year old girls ( cause thats the target for the books, not just cause Im a jerk) that have the screaming thigh sweats for Edward ( apparently I look quite abit like him and I hear it ALL the time like literally 5 times a week if I go out when the youngins are still up).
However i think that Twilight is going to bring out the Vampire wish-listers and as much as I know a lot of us dont want to hear it, its probably REALLY a good thing for the goth community. Lets face it, we could use some new blood.
Plus, how many of you out there got all hooked on vampires because of Anne Rice or seeing Stewart Townsend in those awesomely tight leather pants, come on and let the kiddies dream a little, as long as they dont make us look like a bunch of raving loonies like that punk bastard out in the Midwest, what harm is it gonna do. And for the real vamps, and the sanguine's, once they turn eighteen we all have new chew toys cause of the wanna be Bellas, so really whats the point in bitching about it.
Oh, and for the record, I read the books, I thought they were awesome, I loved the characters, I loved the story line and I loved that Edward just so happened to be a Vampire and the Vampire named Edward and the Lycan named Jacob.
I will say this in defense of all the Vamps here, I nor do any other Vampire I know SPARKLE!!!!! The movie however looked like it sucked to much ass for me to spend 1050 to go see, plus Edward wasn't that cute and neither was Bella.
Anyway, I think it has the potental to boost the goth/vamp community back to its former glory and we should welcome the change and the fresh blood.
In Beloved Darkness
James
Considering the vampire communities disbane for others who role play vampires, it is notable that there are other factions that berate their projected identity.
i know it was waaay off of the norm for vampires but it was interesting and had a great forbidden love story. ahhh romance!!!
yes it is true that twilight did its job as far as get Stephenie tons of money and appeal to the young viewers people my age, and it even extended over onto older women but the truth of the matter is it has created many to become obssessed with vampires to the point they role play as them, i go to your typical high school and before there was ever talk of the movie the book twilight was bashed at every turn but when the trailer came and news of the movie came everyone began reading them and most became overly obssesed where they lived, ate, and breathed twilight, and the results of the movie and book are these fake role playing vampires, there are some on this site even that claim that they are immortal and sparkle in the sun i have spoken to some, the book should have just remained a book i loved the books i thought they were cute same with the blue blood books, it wouldn't have caused the vampyre community the unwanted attention, with the Tyra show, and the occult show on NBC and the television shows and movies, now a once well hidden community is being pulled out of the shadows and into the spot light. the mundanes curiousity grows with every new vampire book, tale, movie ect. and as this continues to happen if the vampryic community wishes to stay in the darkness they will have to struggle and be another step ahead of the growing vampire media
Would you agree that those who identify themselfs as vampires after adopting a mythological character are delusional, or impressionable?
dabbler it seems to me that these people are neither of the options you provided. i would call them a third option: uninspired.
being that they lack creativity they imitate whatever they deem cool (usually in pop culture). plus when you are young you make silly choices. *shrug* not surprising.
I am the black sheep of my family for being a Vampyre enthusiest. However due to this Twilight epidemic my sister who up till now has been agenst VR is reading the books and is asking me for more info on being Goth. Im like " Oh gawd not you, too!"
"Would you agree that those who identify themselfs as vampires after adopting a mythological character are delusional, or impressionable?"
I wouldnt agree they are uninspired but i would say that its possible to be both impressionable and delusional - beliving your own lies in once sense.
i have no problem with 15 year olds who act like vampires, its a growing up thing and if you cant embrace it then the truth is, your further from being young then you thought lol
although i have not read the books my youngest had an loved them shes 13 . i have not seen the movie but again my youngest did and loved it . the movie or books hasnt made her want to be a vampire like what is talked about.....but like every movie kids are fascinated with them and certain caraters and idolize them.... how many kids had to have the under world stuff when it came out or the iron man or the hulk becaus they thought it was cool......
i agree with what images said and she said it nicely......
That involves the degree of involvement, how much a person invest in their assumed identity, a kid that already had an interest in vampires can be just as easily burnt out by the movie, and the surge in popularity trivializes the "studied" "Real Vampire". Sub cultures will always scorn fads they consider
"sacred".
i think it has made the vampire industry explode! now its all teeny boppers who are interested.... but because of edward....the love story....because they are vegetarians....that's not what the vampire world is about....
we are dark and sadistic and HUMAN blood drinkers!
I beleive it has more people to be interested in the vampire on films, yet my personal take is it has ruined the defenition fo the vampiric tales of yester year. but it was bound to happen.
To me its like making friday the 13th a romance story. Jason falls in love with a camp councler.(good plot sell to hollywood, make note to myself) come on there is a few things we do not hamper with, yet hollywood looks at it for the money not on the basics of changing fables or myths.
to answer your question Dabbler yes... we do assosciate ourselves with the mythological creatures but only as a foundation to explain ourselves, we understand our human limitations we are not strung up on fantasy but reality of what we are we are not vampires phsyically but spiritually
I think the vampires in the Twilight series pose a rather interesting concept. They are immortal, incredibly attractive, and they have no limits, unlike "traditional vampires," which is a bit of an, upgrade, if you will.
Yes, the target group for the series is adolescents. Yes, some are rather fanatical. But those who hate the series, are just as obsessed, by posting hate threads and journal entries and making little avatars all about how much Twilight sucks.
i don't think it's a bad thing that this is making a sort of awareness about vampires in the 'non-vampire community' or what have you. If there are those that find it interesting, and follow it, so what? If they are exposed to this, and not the "traditional vampire," so what? And if it's becoming "trendy," so what? Eventually those who follow it only because it's cool will be weeded out when the next trend sweeps along. So, what?
i don't see what the whole big deal is. Someone wrote a book. A lot of people liked it. Even more people hate that. And it all seems just a little bit pointless.
i don't think the Twilight vampires are "wannabe vampires." I think they are the fictional vampires that Stephanie Myer created, because she wanted to. i think that this appeals to many people. And i think some feel betrayed, or just want to show off, because this breaks so far away from "traditional vampires." Well this sort of thing happens in every circle, with every trend, and every style. It isn't a new concept.
"i think it has made the vampire industry explode! now its all teeny boppers who are interested.... but because of edward....the love story....because they are vegetarians....that's not what the vampire world is about....
we are dark and sadistic and HUMAN blood drinkers!"
That is just another take on the Vampire ideal. From what the poser above me said Twilight vampires shouldnt be listed as Wannabie vampires nor should they be refferd to as "Teeny boppers" as that is just insulting and leads them to end up telling you to go comb your pubes over. (I'm just joking with you, gee'z)
I think its utterly wrong that someone else thinks they can force there idea of vampirism on someone else, especialy if they've been brought to this community through a different tunnel. Stop being so insulting to the younger generation, there just as entitled to there take on the subject as you.
Let me put it this way, there was life long before these books were written. The word vampire is used for want of any other that could describe a certain type of person with certain attributes. It has different connotations.
Soulshroude does know what he is talking about and may get heated about it...so what. He is neither delusional or stupid. He is in fact a well educated person in this area. I would listen to him lest you be under fire for what you are labeling. To call people delusional about something most have no idea about is ignorant. This is the net and most don't understand what goes on in the real world nor know much about it.
A high volume of people here don't even know the subculture exists or anything really about its nature except from tv shows showing the more outrageous people. They mostly equate it with historical superstitions or Vampire: The Masquerade and numerous vampire books that have come out more recently due to some preocupation with that genre and that is all it is. It has nothing to do with those claiming to be vampires from real viable Houses.
Your belief is not required but a little respect which has always been lacking on this site is required. Most do not view it as a religion but some do which has been spoken about many times here. It is a belief system of sorts and therefore should not be disparaged because it doesn't fit your preconceived under educated viewpoints. Yes, I am really mad and sick of all this delusional bs coming up in conversation all the time here. Do you have nothing else better to do than put people down everytime one of these vampire fictional stories is made into a movie?
Everytime there is a new movie, series of popular books you get goofy people coming out of the woodwork with warped ideas. It gets directed at the subculture which consists of thousands of people from all walks of life; I mean psychologists, professors, doctors, dentists, secretaries, the mechanic and the list goes on from all over the world. You folks are just unaware and should not speak of something you have no clue about except those who step into the limelight trying to represent a large group of people with their own viewpoints. Most know who they are. This has nothing to do with Twilight which is totally made up by the author. Each series has their own created world with a vampire archetype of their own making and people should understand it is make belief and if they want to be fans of the Twilight world fine but it bears no resemblance to the subculture and it causes grief sometimes that gets directed toward that culture where it doesn't belong. Every time some kid does something because they might want to be a vampire of fiction guess where the finger points and I would say there are a whole lot of people fed up with it.
There are so many amazing vampire movies out there that I would feel sad to say that Twilight enspires people to the culture. BUT.....as with anything that has fame, there are going to be people that want it because of the movie. As far as Edward vs. Culture....you know that 99% of the population that are intrigued by Twilight, are intrigued with the Love story of Edward and Bella....
I think since the movie came out people have grown great intrest in vampires and that is a good thing because maybe they'll realizew that not all vampires are out there to get you as most would put it and Twilight was a amazing movie that showed that.
Every movie has a following, whether positive or negative towards the society. Look at the matrix when it first hit the screens all the buzz of what if and had their loyal followings, even the negative of the killings that happened., because they thought they were invincible.
Twilight has the same acpect happening, hopefully it will not turn sour to our culture.
No matter what whenever a movie comes up the amount of wannabes increases by the boat load mates.
When HP came out suddenly everyone thought they were witcjes and wizards...and i saw 1st hand how many of my friends loathed having seing people pretend to be what they wernt when to them their religion is something important
So its the same thing with the Twilight movie
..
Everyone is just tru=ying to go along with the crowdnad once the movie dies out all will be back to normal
I love Twilight! Personally I believe that yes it has gone a bit far but if you can find those who actually believe in the lifestyle and are not just in love with Edward than maybe they would make a few good additions to Vampire Rave. I mean yes some of the points in Twilight do make since who ever proved that Vampires burn when walking into the sunlight or that they must drink human blood. It would be very interesting to find out that some types of Vampires actually do sparkle when walking into the sun. Besides that they hinted at a few good shape shifter points also. If you are a shape shifter does the form you take when you shift have a special meaning like when Jacob transform his color can represent his personality and the whole Wolf form is just mainly based off the Quileute tribes legends. Twilight may be out of hand but it brings up some excellent views.
simply from hearing from multiple fan base about twilight all twilight is is the anne rice interview with a vampire chronicles Light
its like you have budweiser and bud light.
no real difference to the taste just difference to the quality
The hype of the movie brought about a few million 15-18 year old's who know believe in fact that they are Vampires as well.
Lovely~
i think the book is a great read i think the movie wasnt the greatest translation and i think little girls are falling for something they can never truly have its sad how many ppl can follow like sheep
I think the story is suppose to appeal to teenagers, and yes just as I did when I was a teen, they will probably now associate Vampires with romanticism. The story was more about romance than vampires really. I enjoyed the movie because as someone else pointed out, I knew what the target audience was, and I believe they succeeded. I liked it for what it was meant to be.
More than awareness I'd call it a fad, until another movie which gets popular comes out. The main reason I think it's Edward mostly than the life style, because it mostly attracts the younger audience.
Personally, I can't stand Twilight, but that's my opinion.
All it is is the Vampire version of Dawson's Creek, most of the teenies will forget about it when it's not "cool" anymore. Sure there will be some who will hang on to the memory of Edward and his dirty looking hairstyle, poor souls lol.
Someone stated before that Vampires are fictional characters, maybe so, but is the word annoying in any way associated to the definition of a Vampire? Because that's how I view this whole Twilight fad, annoying.
Though the books did encourage todays youth to pick up a book and read, we will now be inundated with a few emotionally unstable teenages who will profess there feelings by saying "Love me or I'll bite you!" lol
Such is lie and it's ongoing revolving door of fads....
Twighlight is another thing for the herd to follow we've seen it all before and will see it all again,
remember the trend a few years ago (possibly last year) for every new profile to say "Lol Im bi deal with it" or the sudden influx of im a lycan and i hate vampires or visa versa when underworld stormed onto our screens.
Trends have been around since the dawn of days, and they will continue long after the last breath in this body is taken.
New generations are formed with new ideas and structure to society. fads, trends call them what you will, but latley it seems to have gone a full circle in history, if we look back at monster movies and impacts at certian times in our lives. Twilight, Bram stokers dracula, Nosferatu. circles in life.
I can see what you mean about the whole Edward thing. A lot of my friends are now into the dark, handsome vampire types, but can barely stand the thought of the whole blood-sucking thing. I think that maybe it is more of a fad than anything else and it will probably be gone in about ten years or so. Maybe, maybe not. But to me it seems more like a fad, as where I am here as more because I like blood and the lifestyle. Anyways, other people's thoughts.
They want Edward not the life style. Its a romance with vampires that has been their through the centuries but they kids will get over it cause its the latest fad. ...unfortunatly

I don't know... we have literally tons of Lestats running around here, 'alucards', Akashas... I really don't see this any differently than when others have hit their popularity peaks.
In my opinion, the problem people have here is pop culture- they want vampires out of pop culture- but they have always been there. That's why they're so darn popular :P This theme, is not underground at all. It's the most beloved dark creature of all times.
I don't think Twilight has put us any farther into the limelight, but movies like Twilight and shows such as True Blood and Moonlight has made the idea of vampirism more appetizing to the general public. They make our chosen lifestyle seem more glamorous,so we are sought out more and more of them are beginning to see that we are not just fiction anymore.

Vampires are just popular and appealing to the masses. They always have been. They're big box office hits and Twilight is not even near the biggest yet. It's popularity shouldn't be a big deal... we only see it more here because this site's theme is vampires... so I am not sure why it's so unthinkable we'd see a lot of hype here.
It's just, really not a big deal.
I found the books entertaining and the movie was eye candy. Not just the lads but the area where it was filmed. I grew up there and it was so nice to see "home". The ones with true interest with remain interested. The "fad kids" will fall away and move to the next big thing. Big deal. Just be patient.
I have to agree with those that have stated these things come in waves. There have been several waves of Vampires being popular in the past 30 years alone.
We will see way more of this due to it being "Vampire Rave" and on the Dark Network. Here is the thing- the myth is constantly changing and evolving. Look at the changes that have occurred with Dracula since Bram Stoker or even with film adaptations of the 20th century.
This is merely another shift in the mythology as our society shifts and we take our fables with us forward to our future.
I think Twilight brought a lot of things to a new, younger generation, along with re-vamping things for the older vampire lovers.
To those who already enjoyed aspects, myths if you want to call them, of vampirism, I think it brought a new outlook to things. Stephenie Meyers vampires don't die in sunlight, they sparkle. That's something new, and in my opinion, rather interesting. They didn't sleep in coffins (they don't sleep at ALL), they aren't affected by crosses or garlic, etc.
For the younger crowd, it didn't help that the characters are made to be incredibly good looking. Not to mention, in any vampire love stories I've ever read, it was a 'darker' kind of love, if that makes any sense. In Twilight, it was love through the angle of a teenagers first love. The fact that Edward was a vampire made it so that he had to careful around Bella, but it was still new love, an unexperienced emotion for the both of them. ALL teenagers want to believe that love like that is what they will find.. they don't realize love like that is JUST in the movies and isn't for real until they grow up and be grumpy old vampire lovers like myself :p
Personally, I think seeing things from other peoples perspectives (especially when they don't follow the norm) is a fascinating thing!
I liked the Twilight movie but I think it's not to be taken seriously, it's a movie. It's not more than that. As for my interpretation of its impact on societies views of vampires, I don't think it changes much. People in general realize it's a story, created in someones mind and brought from a book they wrote to a screen. It's not even realistic in terms of what we know of vampyre genre in general. Vampyre skin doesn't crystallize in the sunlight. The history also doesn't say they can move as the characters did in the movie or be able to out in the daylight. I don't think the movie changes any views on vampyres or vampyrism. It's a good story, a good movie but it's ofcourse pure fiction and I don't think it's meant to be taken too seriously at all. A teen vampyre romance, sweet and sexy that's it. We should never make more of it, then it is.
It's obviously Edward.
Females find the cliche tragic hero attractive for some reason.
And all the mushy crap he vomits, that's what everyone's in for.
Meyer glamourized the vampire
in the most sickening way.
Ugh.
i think that it is bad. peoples interest in vampires isn't real, it's hollywood induced.. and i do happen to believe it's because edward. i am so tired of hearing these little preppy, former old navy wearing, brats, coming out of hot topics talking about vampires as if they even believed they exsisted until twilight came out. it's gotta be edward. interview with the vampire didn't cause people to do these things and neither did bram stokers dracula. ugh to hollywood for turning what is a serious way of life for some people into a media accepted fad.
Actually, Anne Rice did cause a sort of vampire craze with her Vampire Chronicles. Look around here and you'll see literally tons of Lestats running around.Twilight just created a new craze for the younger generation to latch onto. It's really nothing new.
Everything in that film was was symbolic of adolescence and young love, it brought me back a bit. Thought the film was crap, but liked the way they tried to cover the experience of a vampires mind while sucking blood. I have seen scarier episodes of the muppet show.
Great story . But now its just an annoying fad . My wants to be a vampyre now cus of the movie . I told Ive been living the vamp lifestyle long before that annoying movie came out . I loved the it was funny .and cute at the same time . You cant take Hollywood seriously on anything . You cant except the to be too historically accurate . I would bore most listeners . vampyres were once respected and feared . And now its seen as another annoying trend or some scary cult .

I think leg warmers were an annoying fad.
I think people that like a specific book or movie simply means entertainment is subjective.
Its rather depressing, its just girls wanting to be WITH Edward Cullen. not for the fact of what they are.

There are plenty of men that read it, and they have no interest in being with Edward. I read it. I am 35, and I don't want to be with Edward. I just liked the story.
I also don't think this has boosted anything for psy and sang vampies- I don't even think they are being considered. I think people just like the story and appreciate being imaginative.
Yea, true... but the part thats depressing is, what they dont realise. there are more than just Twilight they can read and say is great, but they abuse you, because they read it and like it (these people are stupidly around my age, so this probably sounds childish) its alright to be different and like Vampires.
I think those who identify as vampires are feeling their "Thunder Thin", in short, they have competition to deal with (or perceived competition).
Wanna-be's, all of them, not a good opion for anyone to have unless the truth isnt what you want known, if you want truth hidden, then of course its a beautiful epidemic we have going on here, lol.
I personally think that we all need to member that Stephine Meyer made a FICTIONAL story with wht HER view of a vampire was, it doesnt make it right, nor does it make it wrong. yes there is alot of people wanting that lifestyle now, but its a fad and im sure as all massive fads have done before, it too shall pass.
i LOVE twilight, i love the characters, but i remember at the end of tha day its fictional, and really i think teens are allowed to dream n have unrealistic veiws n wants, so whts the big deal? its not like people are forcing them to like it
so anyways to all those totally against edward or twilight or w/e it is ur against, its prob gonna fade in a month or so, just wait it out haha.

This 'wannabe' thing is ridiculous to me. I don't think anyone of the Twilight Saga fans want to be vampires. And if they did- it would be nothing other than some kids thinking it would rock to be Batman. Give 'em a break, I say. What's the big deal? Someone likes something you don't like, Oh the horror of it all! is my feeling on that.
I don't think these fans wish to be psy/sang vamps living the 'lifestyle' at all. They just dig these books and/or movie. Good for them. And me.
REALITY CHECK TIME******************
yes. it IS a bandwagon thing. sorry to those who disagree with me... but i bet my balls YOU LOVE twilight as well and are just trying to rationalize your subconscious embarrasment. oh but YOU ARE EMBARRASSED, and that is why you are getting unnerved at my post already.
ok - everyone does need a point of reference to get interested/involved in something. but u r telling me that the MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of teenagers and other pop culture swone demographic that are suddenly ALL ABOUT vampires (ahem, wish for an edward cullen) are unbeknownst to them ARE REALLY vampires from birth? just now realizing it? horseshit!!! twilight is a trend. nothing more whatsoever!!!
are you telling me that people don't BUY into what is SOLD? really? i bet u eat mcdonalds and drink starbucks and smoke camel lights. oh wait, maybe cloves?
do you believe that lamb of bullet for killswitch cradle of marilyn ozzsmack-pa-looza is any better than whitesnake, poison or winger? (sorry but crappy rock has filled STADIUMS for years. and that's why it is CRAP)
do you really beLIEve that harry potter is LITERATURE, like on the level of POE or ORWELL or THOUREAU??? just because something SELLS does it make it good?
oh, am i being cynical? is it confusing you??
TWILIGHT is to DRACULA as the monkees are to the beatles!!!! it is a TREND. when it blows over after making millions and millions more you'll get over it too.
some of us are over it already. and we are TRULY ALREADY vampiric without a quick injection of it into forcefeedbag choke-it-down-YUM! pop culture.
It is a trend much like Harry potter or any other beliebable thing that hits our society, come on well most of us where their for the dreaded Cabbage patcg dolls in the 80's. all trends and new trends will soon follow.

I still have yet to see or hear of people trying to be vampires in reference to these claims. The draw to this series goes way beyond kids though... you have to know that. And I reiterate that people who dress up or role play are no different that those that do it with superheroes- and that's a 'fad' that's been going on forever... at least a good 80 years.
Wow, bat7777. Maybe people in elementary school have to do certain things in order to fit in... but when you're 35 years old like me, such things are supposed to be just that, childish.
Cancer liked the Twilight movie, he posted twice in the other thread currently going- do you think he's embarrassed about it? I don't think so. I think he's a man that couldn't give a rat's butt what anyone thinks. He likes what he likes because it's between him and the subject matter... uninfluenced by people telling him it'll make him 'uncool' if he does. I'm just using him as an example.
As for me, I'm also all grown up. I've posted a lot in both the Twilight threads, so I seriously doubt I could be even close to embarrassed.
It's seems to me there's another kind of obsession going on here with Twilight some *and don't read into this as if I am pointing at you if your particular answers had nothing to do with this*, and that's the one of "We can't allow ourselves to conform" "Popularity is uncool"- which is a conformity in itself.
I might keep bringing it back to the books and movie vice people 'wanting to be vampires' thanks to Twilight, but that's where the answers keep pointing to here, and again- I can't seem to find a single person yet who cares at all to be a psy/sang vamp because of Twilight. And you know what else? I think it's highly egotistical of anyone in the psy/sang community to even suggest people want to be like them due to Twilight. You're nothing like these characters. Fans are in awe of superhuman strength and senses beyond those of animals- just like people have always been with superheroes and sci-fi superhuman/monsters. This want does not apply to humans living the 'lifestyle'. As you know and claim- you are not these fictional beings. So I don't see why some lifestylers keep trying to take credit for their bad-assery (fictional vamps in general).
*walks in singing* ...girls just wanna have fun
Oh ahem, fantasy folks... that is what makes a great romance, a great story and great times. It does not always have to be about the reality which is often, well a major downer.
Has anyone considered that Marti Gras is not about "reality" but fun, fantasy and play? I see nothing wrong with the desire to play on a fantasy that amuses you and makes you happy. Does this mean you have to lock yourself in your room and pretend to be Bella? Nope. But there maybe girls that wish for that, as it sparks their imagination from their life now.
People relate to books and movies in different manners- and with Twilight it is hard because so many are responding in ways that many people find to be extreme because with the books you either get the imagery or you find it drivel. Whichever camp you're in, doesn't make the other one not valid- but different. I think that with this conversation people are going to have just chalk it up to agree to disagree and from there you may find a different perspective than the one that is so desperately held onto.
Be it anne Rice, underworld or Twilight and least it gives people something to consider or contemplate.
i agree - agree to disagree!
we do live in a capitalist society (per say) and at least everyone has a right to state their slant.
i'm still slanted to laughing at the masses (as i have done since i WAS in elementary school even if it has suddenly dawned to some people that it has even become conformity to "not fit in")
(when was i in elementary school... hmm ending in 1983 if i recall...)
and i'm still slanted to believe that BEFORE twilight people have been vampiring onto the bandwagon...
us humans LIKE to have identity, labels to call ourselves:
be it goth, punk, vampire, christain, pagan, republican, etc
there are always wannabes, whelp wannabes and aging wannabes as well
i do know another thing about twilight though... i think it SUCKS and has not furthered my conduit with vampires and the supernatural that has developed over my three dozen-some years as a HUMAN.
all the same i think in each of us there is a segment of soul connected to the unknown/supernatural... something ancient that transcends. the more we define ourselves by focusing on announcing to people to what we percieve ourselves as being... the LESS we actually are that thing and more a proclamation. (think of it as when morpheus explains "residual self image" to neo in the matrix) (oh no - i just accidentally used a pop culture refrence!!!)
(continues to hum "girls just wanna have fun" chuckling than stops and thinks about twilight and begins to hum "money changes everything"...)

bat7777, I respect your opinion- for if I do not, I can't expect to receive it for my own... not that it always works both ways ;)
For the record though- I don't believe it's the motivation of any vampire author to do anything more than write a good story. Lifestylers are not considered, it's not about them, it's about imagination- and it's working for millions upon millions. You don't have to be one of them- but if it's okay for you to bash people for what they like- please don't come back singing Minstry's 'Everyday is Halloween' and feeling shunned for not being accepted as you are.
Don't we all work for money? Are people working at microsoft to be shamed because 'they're only in it for the money'... how about all your favorite musical groups and singers- Screw them! They're only in it for the money! What about photographers who partake in that art? Should they always do it for free? People work for money, this is nothing new, this is not surprising, and it's not an issue for me.
Bat, you're being angry at society for finding a way to numb themselves. If Twilight does that for 15 year olds to 50 year olds, who are you to say that is them just eating up pop culture? You like what you like, I like what I like and Images likes what she likes. But the fact is that we could all like the same thing but for very different reasons and that doesn't make any of us wrong!
I LOVE Twilight. I love the romance. The thought that this plain Jane girl has someone perfect in every way want her is captivating to me. I do agree that it is bringing attention to the world of the vampire but, and this a large BUT....So did Interview, Underworld, The Lost Boys, Nosforatu, Queen of the Damned, Bram Stokers Dracula...should I keep going? The main reason these movies and books take people in is because we all want something other than what we have! Typically, the darker side of life calls to us, the people on VR, the people who read Dark Realms or Gothic Beauty. We've embraced the dark, morbid curious thoughts of this life (most since we were adolescent) and we yearn for more. Who are you to tell me that my feelings and emotions and dreams and thoughts and desires and wants are wrong? Because you have some greater truth of this life? I don't believe it for a second nor will I ever. You've lived your life the way you want to and I will continue to live my life the way I want to. WITH TWILIGHT, and HARRY POTTER and DRACULA and UNDERWORLD and THE LOST BOYS. ( should I keep going?) I just think you need to stop, take a look at what you're spewing and think about how you react to other peoples thoughts and emotions.
As for music, we've had this discussion, who are you to tell me what music is crappy and what music is good? Just because (my fav bands) Slipknot or Live or Tori Amos are all on record labels doesn't mean that they are shit bands. It's the same for Harry Potter or Twilight and Icons like LOTR, The Lost Boys and BS Dracula.
Get a grip babe!
*walks out singing "Let It Be" by the Beatles*

i work, but do what i do because i want to and would do it for free. i work as a high school teacher for inner city emotionally disturbed kids. i live in the same neighborhood as them. i see them on my very street and in in the hall and in class and at the store and when i coach them or when they cry or laugh. and i love impacting them and being someone they can relate to and laern from and they know its finally an adult who gives a fuck about them. sometimes they get shot, or arrested, or worse. but i love them all the same and am patient and do my job. money is not why i work.****as far as the music i am most moved by, most of it has been created by bands i know or dare i say it myself. i have been in bands since 1985. i don't do it for money and don't give a shit about that element, and for the most part i really could care less about mass-produced anything. so i am glad to bash crappy corporate rock i think sounds like garbage. we all are allowed to like or dislike what we like... right?
inspiration is inspiration. i just don't get inspired by what other people have decided i should listen to, read, watch, or think. and at the end of the day i'm more concerned about the kids i teach than the lyrics of a song or if i'm a vampire.
************************************
sweet silence...
all my love foremost. i am not angry at all. i would know if i was. people liking or not liking saves the day or rushmore or john grisham or the libertarian party does not phase me. people do what they do and i cannot control that or them. nor do i want to.
i think its great for people to be swayed over something. we live in a near dead-civilization socially. null, blank, regulated and cruel (AND IM NOT SPEAKING ABOUT THE FLASHES OF BRILLIANCE BE THEM LIGHT OR DARK, COMMERCIAL OR UNDERGROUND).
a small point i don't think is hitting some people is that THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES to inspiration. and to me... the highest level is to create it yourself. so thats what i try to do. i never DEFINE myself inany serious context beyond that of HUMAN. and as a HUMAN, my duty so far as i see it is to love others for the sake of itself and create for the sake of creating. nothing will sway me from this path, and i will not be unafraid to offend people who adhere to the philosophy of NIAVE REALISM. i do love all life, all of it even in these dary and hallow days. every day is an opportunity. and it will be like that when i depart this body and beyond. that's the quiet in me speaking... that conneced to my ageless patience. we are sand. we are rust.
WE ARE NOT VAMPIRES
WE ARE NOT UNIQUE
WE ARE NOT LEVELS AHEAD BASED ON TIME LOGGED ON
WE ARE ALL IN IT TOGETHER
and as soon as we have STOPPED defining ourselves
we are there where we no longer need to
we are connected to our ancient
likewise, when we create or work from our heart
we are in the same place
call me weird, but i don't think working for microsoft and listening to slipknot is close to the core of ME as writing/living my own music and working with children...
also i am entitled to scoff @ what i PERCEIVE insincere
i find it strange when it offends people for me to get so OFFENDED?DEFENSIVE?REACTIVE? when i speak my mind and dis mass-produced commodities. i'm not offended by what others do as long as it is not HARMING others. (of course theres the whole angle thinking in certain contexts is detrimental to one's core, but we'll leave that alone for now)
we define our own reality. i define mine, or at least i like to think i do. as do others... i would hope...

Who's anyone to speak for an artist? Who's anyone to say Stephenie Meyer is not living her own passion and would do it even if it were for free? I'm a writer, I don't get paid, I still do it. I hope to get my work out there some day, but if I don't I will still keep writing.
My simple point is just that entertainment is subjective- and people choices should be respected. Hating something simply because it's popular in my world is lame and it's own brand of herd conformity.
The only good reasons I can personally buy into for not liking Twilight is that- you prefer a different style of story, it wasn't your 'bag', the plot didn't work for you... I just don't get the reasons of hating it because 'a lot of people like it', many of which are young- which makes no sense to me because it was written for young people.
Disagreeing in the forum doesn't have to equate to being offended. I'm not offended, I just have my specific point of view, and am stating it. Nothing more than that.
in all honesty i am not trying to offend anyone and agree fully about entertainment being subjective. (bows down and hands out chocolate bars to everyone...) i'll admit i like to play devils advocate to some extent... and you are right in that some folks don't "get" things (ie books, movies, etc, etc) no matter what. that's one of the things that makes it special about humanity - our differentation. even on a small segment of cyberspace with 10000+ takes - look at the varience of persons & personalities, all linked by a connection to the "dark" and supernatural. you are all my brothers and sisters...
anyone else who wants mto drop me a line about this thread or my thoughts in general, please feel free to message. and personally humbily apologize if i added to the stickyfactor...
-bat
From the gate I have been in the same camp as Images, I follow Bat, you both share more valid points than apparent opposing opinion, the fine tuning has really been a great read.
Hating (hating anything is a knee jerk reaction, when relating to pop-culture) Just hating something is As images states.. is lame.
Disliking something, and communicating why one dislikes something
is the sign of an intelligent person, any idiot can hate something because others in their click (sp) hate it.. that is blind.
Twilight movie and books alike just came on a time in history when YOUNG teens specially the female gender have the freedom to read a series of themes involving the mix between love and mystery in a more romantic side, making the traditional vampire roll less dangerous and more humane incorporated to the reality of how it would be in a real life spectrum on present times, all this elements were key to the success of the author, so basically it goes both ways, if we talk in a set of time, we are in this era and people change as everything around them so its a good nowaday story of a group of vampires living out of alternative ways rather than hiding and killing, if we talk in base of the traditional ways of a vampire this might seam to you as a joke, so its all in the eye of the beholder. To my guess real vampires presently wouldnt care about the image it portraits because there are more stupid movies about humans out there and people watch it, Then again it would be really anoying having old bags pretending to be one of them like alot of people out there and in here.
About the Edward lifestule question, i think it would be a amazing element and great book if he wasnt attractive, would make the story more realistic, but i guess people want money so hehe they went with the traditional appealing people for the little girls which are mostly the most percent of the fanatics.
It seems like ever since Harry Potter came out about 10 years ago, there has been this fascination with paranormal type things. People love movies like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Interview with the Vampire. People love to watch things like that. Underworld...... I mean everything.
And there has been a serious outbreak of Vampire/Witch/Magical books. A LOT.
I think it may raise awareness, but then again, it could also just be one of the many little human fascinations? Who knows.
I guess the only way is to just wait and see.
I do know that a lot more people I know believe in vampires now ;)
I loved the movie and I loved the books to be honest. As for what it did for vampires, well...does it really matter that much? I mean come on, it's Hollywood. If it isn't Twilight it's some other movie. Yea there are a lot of teens running around now in love with Edward Cullen lol. Hollywood's vampires are what made me curious about the whole thing in the first place. I don't really see it being bad if it makes people curious. They are teenagers, they'll either grow out of it or do what I did and look into vampires and find out the history behind it. If it weren't for movies like Dracula, Interview with a Vampire, and Queen of the Damned, I might not even be here at all. Yea, I know Hollywood messes it all up and everything, but it can spark curiosity which can lead to researching. It really isn't such a bad thing. Oh, and if the teenagers into Twilight bug you so much, then ignore them like most other people do lol. Come on, we were all teenagers once and were probably all into things that annoyed the crap out of other people. Give them a break.

Good post, ceridwenlynn.
I don't think Hollywood messes anything up. They are doing exactly what's meant to happen- writing a fictional story about a mythical being.
Modern vampires took this name on due to their parallel to the legend- so which one is the real vampire by definition? Now... that may make some people mad, but really think about it.
I appreciate my friends here who are proclaimed human vampires- but these myths are different, and they shouldn't be judged together as if they were the same, or as if they (Hollywood) had any intentions of keeping the human vamps down. To me, that is egotistical and ridiculous.
I must say this thread served as topic and poll to the main subject hahaha! only look at how many views it has...Twilight just screams attention everywhere, it is quite annoying. To be honest I watched the movie, because I’m a fan of every vampire film, except for the last one "bled"
which Sucked to no end, and it was very amazing how i couldn’t listen half of the movie in the theater, with girls knowing the script and reciting every lines of the whole movie, others jumping from side to side and screaming every time they appeared. The movie really wasn’t a great deal, vampires that don’t have fangs? And sparkle like glitter if they are in presence of sunlight? It doesn’t seam like a traditional vampire description, despite of the abilities they have. I personally support innovation due to different times but don’t you think the author twist the old ways of the vampire a little bit too much?

I'm all for authors writing some other than the same old damn story we know. Give me a new spin... that's entertainment!
Hmm I guess you are right is a bit of all the same ok ok ill give you a spin, although I think Hollywood is lacking in action aspects on the new vampire films, excluding Underworld of course, but with all the advancements in special effects and a broad new sci-fi scopes, it would be more entertaining to mix aliens with vampires or angels and vampires theory as a storyboard like that(more or less like the film “Constantine”),that the movies sits on somewhere in the origin of the specie, or place them in ancient time context nothing to do with present, honestly all the new Hollywood movies are just taking old movies and putting them back new or bringing old movies and viewing them as present or future times, no new movies about ancient times and sticking in that era atmosphere or whatever, like Apocalipto or Pathfinder for example. Another entertaining ideas would be like a vampire movie with some biblical accounts in fiction standards like “The da Vinci code” with weird’s symbols, drawings and secrets hunters and shit that screws your head and make you feel it could be possible hehe .
*rolls her eyes*
You know what guys... she's a GREAT Writer for Youth Novels... and I myself am happy for her success in getting all those books done AND getting the movie accomplished ahead of schedual!!
One of my favorite writers is Kelly Armstrong, she does a supernatural series that takes place all over .. but starts in Toronto Canada!!! She's a great lady, and She has a movie title for her book Bitten (Angelina Jolie is supposed to have the main role) It has STILL YET to have been made!!! And Ms. Armstrong is a little bitter about all of Meyer's success, I believe!
Either way when big hit books take off people in that age group run around pretending to be what they're not (then again from what I've read today so do some adults!!!) Remeber when Harry Potter came out? Sheesh all the hoopla about that and all the kids trying to ride brooms HA you have any idea HOW MANY INJURIES we seen go out of the YMCA lmfao
Anyways Books and Movies impact people a lot!!
This twilight series was a modern day romance was all... think about WHY she was reading wuthering heights through ALL THE DAMNED NOVELS!!!
ohh good luck finding wuthering heights in most stores seeing as twilight was a big hit this book has become second cuz it's referenced in almost ever book!!! so people are crazy to buy!!!
So in light give everyone a break lol ;)
I personally like the Twilight saga but only for the sci fi aspect. This is a lifestyle for me not a trend. I didnt even read the first book till two months ago. I'm also going to a "Twilight prom" in town. Just something fun to do and i love look at posers.
In my opinion, I think people's awareness of vampires was because of Twilight. Before Twilight no one really believed that vampires existed but ever since Twilight everyone believes in vampires now cause of the movie.
As for people wanting the lifestyle or is it Edward I believe that it is Edward because not many people want this lifestyle. A good portion of society thinks that the vampire culture is evil and everyone thinks we're freaks. Ever since the whole twilight and edward thing now those people who thought bad about the vampire culture now except it. People should except the vampiric culture on there own not cause of some movie.
I think it boosted by alot but in a very bad way because I think that Twilight doesn't portray the vampires as they really are and I don't think that the people (girls especially) are interested in the lifestyle...
Well honestly I never really saw the movie nor have I read any of the books but I saw when the movie was advertising on television. It looked like an okay movie but it never really caught my attention. My friends told me that they were extremely excited to see the movie and they are people who aren't into vampires. They said that they were only into the actors because "they are hot" so then some people watched the movie due to the actors and maybe others watched it because they were really interested in the vampire lifestyle.

vampierdragon6, if you think that "Twilight" is what has made people aware of human vampires... you must be very young. Human vampires had been brought to mainstream knowledge a long time ago through documentaries. Before then, 'psychic vampires' were first mentioned in Dion Fortune's book, Psychic Self-Defense, although worded just a bit different... and that was in 1930, a book I purchased 13 years ago.
I suggest you do a bit of research... if you believe Twilight brought awareness to vampirisim, there's a giant world out there you've missed out on. A huge one.
I enjoy Twilight, but it is totally separate from the world of modern vampires, and I don't believe they should be judged in categories even kinda similar. One category is fictional book entertainment... the other is human reality. How in the world are people still looking at these things as correlating? I know! People couldn't find their own title, they borrowed from the myth. And with that... the confusion will never die. This is even something Michelle Belanger would be first to admit... as anyone who's read her books knows.
Vampire in reference to people, is a misnomer. They're real people in my opinion, doing what they do as a parallel to the 'vampires' society has known for centuries, but it's not the same. I don't doubt them, I just have a hard time with their chosen label.
The assumtion that people are somehow afraid of, or don't understand " human vampires" is rather self grandizing, to say that more people are indifferent to those who proclaim to be vampires is more accurate.
Expansion of a genre is common, adaptation of existing lore is nothing new.
How many kids professed to be Kung- Fu artist when Kung- Fu the series was on?
I have read the book and it was great. I brought a different view of a vampire, but it had also brought people how have come obsseded with the twilight vampire version and don't even know what a true vampire is. Twilight has created a illusion about the life of a vampire.

I don't think Twilight created an illusion... I think modern human vampires just started a different one in regards to the one we always imagined when hearing the word: vampire. For me, it will always stand for the grand mythical legend- and the people are numinous sponges. I coined that just now... and don't you ever forget it! :D I sure won't.
The number two definition of vampires is rather curious in regards to those who label themselves such.
