I'd like your opinions on what is lacking in the vampire community overall, if any.
Do you have something you would change if you could? Things you would like to see more or less of(ie..events, havens, unified publications..ect)? How would these things, if they came to be, make life in the community easier or more accessible?
Fresh ideas are greatly encouraged.

I think that there is a great deal lacking, but for me, one of the key deficencies is the scarcity of sensible, well educated and capable debators to face the glare of public life, without making the entire community look like crazies or fools.
i am happy with the community simple and sweet. i wouldnt want it to change
i am not happy with the community simple and sweet. dosnt work it needs to change
I like the responses so far, but please keep in mind that when I refer to the "community", I refer the our entire sub-culture that extends outside of this site into the real world.

What would you suppose makes you unhappy cronos? And what would you like to see changed?
Hmmm...I think it's better to remain secret for example cause of narrow mindness or at least suddenly people become more open minded about the subject and accepts everyone of this life style....but that's a miracle!!!!
i would like to see it all changed because i'm tired of seeing the seperative types.
oh *blushes* I thought by community you meant vr. the community has to change quickly I just cant put my finger on what has to change...
the knowledege that no matter what color, shape, size, creed, faith, ethnicity, we all share the dark gift no matter what your walk of life we need to all come together with the understanding that there are not many of us to begin with so we should not fight amongst ourselves when we have enough enemies outside our world...
"no censorship at all
we are not free to completly xpress ourselves"
Well said brother cronos.
Unity as my darkling son Rage said.
I'd like to applaude everyone here and thank them for taking part in this discussion! Some rather wise points are being made..I do sincerely hope the trend stays current. I'm sure this will afford all of us the chance to learn more about one another and in doing so help smooth out the playing field for a better tomorrow. Keep it up!

First off, I would like to see more havens/ hangouts because I feel we all need a place to hang out in the real world where I am at anyway. Second, I would like to see more people come together in the events of more celebrating our place in the world as vampires and not as people just hanging out. There should be more to us than certian things, and I know that we have very limited tools. Although, we can open ourselves up to new things and come together as a community.~NFA
Am I making any sense here?
How can we make this happen ? Ok so STABB referred to the lack of education thereof in the community thats why we get together and start sharing information as people like we are doing on the net. Networking not only here but we as people in our community can be a voice and come together there alot of hiding of who we are and alot less people standing up in the world now a days.~NFA
That my sister is hard to do some may feel it to be preaching and frown on it thus it makes it hard to share info. I my self will never open anymore threads with info on it. for said reason. I came here to better understand who and what I am and to share what I have learned but find it harder and harder to do so there are many here that have good views on what we are and I love that they are open with their views on us and thank them but there are more here who play games and seek to put down what we have faith in and who we are.

Well my brother. I am here to ask you this then does it matter what those people think of us? In the end of all things we are who we are and they can not EVER take that away from us. Well there are others who do but you need to be strong and keep walking your faith or else how are you going to awaken fully spiritually?~NFA
So my point is this, Why hide your beliefs from teaching others? Yes there are gonna be people who come and test your faith and run you down, but if you let them run you over with your beliefs and you bow down to them they were never your bliefs or teachings in the first place.
Keep strong my friends and never give up on who you are and what you are becoming cos I know it took along time to get here.~NFA
I am interested in reading more imformitive posts as well. I mean to some of us this is more then a fun little diversion. Please keep up the educational convo's. Perhaps a specific area in the forum for specifically schooling those who are interested??
One thing I have always had a problem with in the community as a whole is this...
We are all individuals and all have our own thoughts and ideas on things. Yet when you go looking at the various houses/covens/organizations you tend to find that a large majority of them are clearly of the belief that their way is the only right way and the way others do things, the way others believe is in error.
Being closed minded to the ways of others, be it in how they view the lifestyle, the religious path or what have you, only serves to harm and not help.
If you can't accept the ways of the others around you who are also a part of the larger community, if you tell those who come to you to learn that what they might hear elsewhere is false and should be ignored or vilified, how can you ever create a united community that holds the best interests of all it's members at it's core?
Mind you I should add that I don't agree with at least half of the teachings or ideals I see within various aspects of the community. However, I feel that if those beliefs and ideals work for others, then it would be wrong of me to tell people "don't become a part of that group" or "well i read their rules/beliefs/thoughts and I think they are full of shit."
What might be completly wrong for me may be exactly what someone else needs in their life to give them a better understanding and acceptance of who and what they are.
Just like I might not be a follower of the christian faith any longer, but would not tell someone who is or is about to convert to it that it is all BS and they are making a mistake by accepting that path for themselves, neither would I tell someone that just because I do not follow a certain path within the community, that it is wrong for them to do so.
Agree to disagree with the ways of others, both individuals and organizations, but at least treat them with respect and accept that their ways may have validity for others even though they do not suit you.
Very well said Lady E I agree with you.
It is not right for anyone to think that their way is always right..We all as a whole come from differant backgrounds full of differant religions and information..It is those of us who wish to learn are solitary due to the fact of one group saying the other is wrong..How are we expected to join together in all our efforts to change things if we can not accept other groups and respect what they know..
We must all grow together not seperate if we can ever come to a place where we as a whole can learn, respect, and love each other in all forms..It is this way that we might make a differance in the way we are seen..
Yes our path is our own, but for many of us we hide in the midst of not trying to cos such a contriversy over our beliefs. Lady I do agree with you to a point. Although, why let others run you down. If they as a society do not like our teachings to those who want to learn that that is their problem to deal with. If youlet them override you and you run from it then like I said they were never ones beliefs to believe in the first place. To believe is to honor ones spiritual awakening. To take it for granted and the cheese stands alone. Catch my drift.~NFA
I'd like to see more gothic/vampire oriented clubs in my area and places where gatherings could be held. I would also like to see the formations of more "covenesque" groups. I speak primarily of my own town and the surrounding areas. I hate having to think of travelling to NY or Florida to find good places on the east coast.
For me, its not so much what I would change about the vampric community, its what I would change with the narrowminded people of the world.
This is going to sound superior but here goes...
What is lackingi the Vampire Community? To a large extent a fiar few communities are filled with people who have no real idea what it is to be Vampiric in nature and have more of a HOllywood style idea and think a few teeth extensions and a dark pair of pants willdo the trick nicely ...So id say lets get more people in who at least have a clue and educate those that dont.
I agree with the whole no censorship thing.
I also agree with the idea of the haven for vampires and vampire lovers alike. It wouls be a nice break from all the dickwads that insist that m obsession make me a freak and of course "freak" is contagious. ::the last bit wa pure sarcasm::
Our community goes way beyond VR. And has history behind it. We have gotten alot of bad publication within the last few years due to indivuals I consider Gaja. Which is another word for a trendster. A fake. I would like to see the subculture geared more toward humanity and get away from the whole caste system. I dont like to see the community cliche'd. And that seems to be what is going on lately. I would like to see more members of the community doing their duty by educating not harrassing those that are ignorant by default. There is an aire lately in the community alot of us on various websites have been discussing.. and that is Change. Alot of us feel the community changing, and do not know what to do with the changes. All I can say is become part of the change. Help us to grow in a more positve lifestyle and get outof the darkness we have been corrupted by.
In my opinion I believe that most of the things going on in our community as a whole are okay I suppose... Yes.. there is room for improvement.. but that goes along with any kind of culture/sub-culture..
I'd would like to see more of a united community though.. the constant fighting and bitching about who is more whatever than someone else reminds me of a school yard fight... *and it's not just on the VR* Tollarance is something that we want everyone to have when dealing with our community, yet we seem to not be able to do it for our brothers/sisters... or even others not like us... *shurgs* Just an observation of mine....
darkangel69 why would you change others peoples mind? even if it were norrow-minded
The reason I say that, is because alot of vampires in the community are scared to show who or what they really are because of narrow mindedness [sp?]
But, in a different perspective, maybe the community should change some to be more fearless.
We do need more "safe havens" in individual areas where we can get together in person to speak. But also, I do believe the public should be educated. All the public has to go on is the movies. Everything seems to come down to the movies and how we are portrayed. Enlightenment is the key. Once again, I am not saying to wear a shirt that states what you are but in a simple conversation, let people know how it really is. They would be suprised to see all the spiritual people on here. I was. No one should have to hide from what they believe in. I thought moving to the back of the bus was done away with a long time ago. We cannot let outselves be put into that position and the only way for that to happen is through education. My 2 cents worth..
A Renaissance is definately in order-- but many are still underground, afraid of losing their jobs or worse yet families because of their 'condition' (and by that, meaning being Awakened or still finding themselves in their newfound gift).
I would like to say call me naive, but that is one thing I am not.. I think that if people really care about you and love you, they will understand your way of thinking and what a great opportunity to expel all the myths as well. This is what I mean about people needing to me educated. I told my mother, she wasnt happy and asked me if I was a devil worshipper, I told her not at all, that there are many spiritual people on here, she basically just laughed but accepted it.. My kids also know.. To me, there is no reason to hide.. there is no reason for anything in life to be thrown at other people either, but hiding is not a good thing..
I agree with that, but when your job could be on the line, it could defiantly be a little harder.
I believe in telling the people close to you, but what about the people that barely know you?
The people that barely know me, mean nothing in the scheme of things.. And losing you job over a belief if against the law.. Its like losing you job because you are catholic or like the color blue. You arent at work to hurt anyone and people need to understand that. I guess I have always been a very open and honest person and when someone asks me something, I give them that answer, momma always told me not to lie... yeah right.. only when necessary anyway. But seriously, no one will take this serious once again, if they arent educated. We arent killers, we arent out to hurt you, we arent devil worshippers, we arent mean and abusive and that stigma needs to go away...
I se nothign lackng in oru community here, but I do think that in general acceptance is hadr tpo find from other communities.
Except perhaps, free English classes.
:) STABB
You really think in ajob they couldn't do it, it is known that is illegal right, check this out what do you think when a boss says * I am sorry but you are over-qualified, when your serveces are no longer needed, things of the sort* now the samples I gave may seem somewhat for another reason yet since the reason to fire you is not mandatory to be given what makes anyone not think that some of the bosses out their might not use this type of exsamples to fire you because of your race, color and/or even religion? It is so simple all I have to do if I dont like you or in my place I do not accept comments from a catolic is tell them I am sorry but your serveces are not longer required and my actions do not have to be proven. So in a way sometimes is more of the minimun but still sometimes the job and/or work can come in betwen.
Exactly. in the workforce they cannot discriminate because your religious, ethical, or persona in general. But it is still not proper etiquette to have on your resume.. BTW I am a vampire. I see what she was talking about. You wont get fired for it, but there is such a thing as quiet discrimination to where a business will not project their actual reasoning behind either hiring or letting someone go. And if you are in a right to work type of job then whallah guess what, your S.O.L.
still the point of this subject is what is lacking in our community.. not what we think about who we should be more open too!
Please, dont get me wrong.. I am not saying to put this on your resume.. but it does go along with what is lacking in the community, and I will say it one more time.. what is lacking is a place to feel comfortable and not judged and that will only happen with education and understanding. Dont hide whom you are.. Be proud of who you are.. By shunning it, it makes it look like a bad thing...
i want to see people not going by what they see in the movie, and what they really are
The fact that all vampires are assumed with Vlad....now vlad is one of the cultural icons of Vampirism..don't get me wrong I enjoy Vlad very much so...To the point of ask Narakyndryn about my...episode of HHN :D
What is lacking is AUTHENTICITY.
Stop complaining!!!!!!!!!! SHEEP.
i remember i think a few years back, the founder of vampire-church had an interview and i watched this on tv and it seemed that he was trying to "educate" the public , but instead they went off into other vampire folklores and such that he never really got to say what he wanted to or make a valid point.
That doesn't help the community at all either......
Would love to see More Vampyric Haven's an Clubs around not just in teh Big Ass Cities but in the smaller communities as well or more of a recognition of Vampyres as a Society then an oblivion in others minds
neneka i think is kind of right by agreeing with rage...but everyone has there own opinions whether it be about a person or an object..life is criticism...the criticism within that life cannot be changed...-mieta-
I live on long island , so in the city i am sure there is a ton to do. However on the island its very lacking. I wish there were more events out here where you could meet people into the same.. If I had the money I have vamp parties..
oooh vampire parties sound like lots of fun. right now i just feel misunderstood for having such an intense interest in the vampire lifestyle and what have you... people aren't educated! stupid people!
I would love to see more events and parties, yes organized underground that kind of vibe. I shall date myself here, but I remember back in the old days of raves...hehehe...we used to hand out fliers to a select underground following (those who wouldn't tell) and take over empty warehouses and in our area private beach zones (owners back in canada) it was so much fun and made it really cool to be around "like minds" but there was "organization" in the disorder. The Vampire Ball in New Orleans ..great event but one of few. Radio of course, and perhaps even more art events or multimedia..where talent can be showcased/money raised/ and mingling can occur. Growth and bonding...good times.
haven. gatherings of others . but as for every thing else i guess it is always lacking no matter what there is..
i really wish there were more places i could go dancing near me. there are only two clubs that even have "goth" nights anymore, and one of them i refuse to give business to. so i'm stuck with monday night in the punk club and maybe 20 kids. it's not what i'm used to, but it's all richmond has to offer.
Membership purpose grouping would help sort out who we wish to intact with. Added in like an extra classifiacation.. humans, HLVs, Vamps, curious spectators, roll players.. etc. It's the biggest obsticle I've run across thus far.
