what does everyone think about the role of religion in vampirism? like... are you devout in a faith of any kind, and if so, how does this affect your view on you yourself being a vampire, or your acceptance of others as vampires? this is something i'm highly interested in, and i'm just hoping to get some feedback!
religion and vampirism to me have never gone hand in hand...probably on the count of that most vampires are either spirtual...atheist..satanist..or agnostic..sometimes...more often than not...they are also pagan...it really depends on what you believe in and what type of person you are...the most common mistake...is that all vampires are satanists...and this comes from most who are unlike us...what to us we see as different but what they see as normal...people are judgemental..but i don't think at all that vampirism has anything to do with religion..it is not one in itself..it is a belief...a way of life..a personality...i duno..i am babbling..lol! anywho ya...bye.-mieta-
I have alot of faith.. I am a very spiritual person and I am happy like that. But why should it get in the way of anything. I personally dont think I am doing anything wrong for it to be in the way. To me, from what I have seen, there are more spiritual people on here than any other group I have ever belonged to..
AS a Pagan my religion is very open minded and opionated, I view vampirism as a lifestyle not as a relgious lifestyle though but as how one chooses to live their daily physical life
I am a christian catolic, yet my religion does not hold me back nor prohibid me from liking any type of theme in this world.
oh! i hope you dont think i meant that vampirism is wrong! that's really far from where i was going with this... i'm just curious if religion comes into play.
I AM A HUMANIST!
Religion, to me, is only a way to escape from the anguish and the responsability of building our own fate.
I follow no religion.
Being that I am pagan, vampirism doesn't really butt heads with me since I don't follow a closed path.
Wow thats completely the oposite of me in its way since I do not believe in responsabilities nor fate.
To take the question one step further do you think that religion and vampirism have something in common in certain cases? Think of holy communion "Take, drink, this is my blood which is shed for you..". We were always told to think of the wine in communion as the blood of Christ. What is everyone's thought on this subject also?
not mixing, is like trying to mix light and dark, they are always one close to the other, but they dont mix
I believe that if you want to follow the vampiric life style you have all your rights to practice whatever religion you want.
I don't believe in the vampires are of the devil, evil etc...For me that's all myth.
Therefore they can be of whatever religion they want.
i think that they can practise any religion they want as long as the religion doesn't have anything against vampires.....dunno...
But as we all know all religion unless satanic will always be against " " vamps and anything to do with such. So yo uwould be saying that in this case no one that follows a religion exept satanic can be in this vamp world " ".
To me its a bit like saying if your GAy can you be a christian? I feel theres a lot of hypocrasy in religion, people claim to follow a faith and then pick and chose the bits they like and discard the bits they dont like.If your Vampiric and you want to practise a religion who is going to stop you. I myself have no faith i follow or practises i follow either.
I am a follower of my religion but I also accept vampirism in others if that is their choosing. I am not here to judge and I believe that my religious beliefs should not make a person judgemental.
I'm a Christian. There's nothing evil about vampirism itself, so why would it have any affect on your religion? I also practice magick. That has no effect either. It's all in your mind whether you feel okay following a religion despite your condition.
I believe Vampirism is what you make of it....practice what you will, and combine and create what is exclusive to yourself.....THAT is true vampirism.....
I agree with most on this topic that vampires can be religious and have no guidelines as to what religion they follow...I however, I follow a christian path along with my girlfriend who has been there for me during all my times of need and has never left my side...I love her...Her name is Erela on here...Check her out...
As far as I know vampires are mentioned in none religions that's another reason why I keep on my belief.
Anyway when practicing a religion it doesn't necessary mean you agree with everything that the religion has to do with.
What you do in your private life is your business not the religion's belief.
I'm universalist and unitarian, which is an ideal evolved from fundamentally Christian precepts.
It is accepting of vampyrism as much as being an article of faith, as it is a lifestyle.
I don't see any reason for faith and vampyrism to be mutually exclusive, certainly none which stands up against a persons' right to be and also to believe whatever they want.
And if a person is happy that they can meet the principles of morality for their chosen belief, whilst still 'living' as a vampyre', I don't see the problem with that.
In my opinion the concepts of religion and vampirism are separate. I don't think that overall either one should dictate the other, though I do think that some people who are more devout in their organized faith may find that they are hindered by social expectations that can cause a mental twist in their own minds.
Neither should dictate the other though as one who walks a path shall choose the knowledge that is worthy to them.
myslef I believe that religion (i.e christianity) and vampirisim are like oil and water...... doesnt work out well.......i think you can be christian and have the common intrest in vampires.... but that is all..... i think it is more suited for those of the pagan, standards and such...... but then again this is just my opinion..... to each his own
my religion doesnt chance due to the fact of who i am..its part of who i am...its accepted in my religion and is embraced..it helps in my rituals as well..but contrary to popular belief, i dont sacrifice animals or such...
it just adds to who you are
I agree with Deathnitegirl on that...She said that being part of a religion doesn't necessarily mean you believe everything that your peers do...You should believe in your own things and not what your friends do...
I think another reason why vampires were looked upon as being evil in the old days was due to the people of that time and not just the religious folk. In the old days in order for one to become a vampire you had to be a druggie, an alcholoic, a prostitute, have you mom die giving birth to you, be stillborn, be an aborted baby or be born with what they considered in that time as a birth defect (sometimes something as simple as having too many wisdom teeth or not enough..heehee). With two exceptions(still birth and women dying giving birth) you couldn't become a vampire unless you were bad in life. So naturally in those days all vampires were believed to be evil in the religious eye.
very true.... your religion doesnt mean that you have to follow what every one else in that particular sect.....it simply means that you subscribe to the belief system..... be who you are and let no one stand in the way of that.
I was raised Catholic, confirmed and all not by choice however. Now that i am older I tend not to follow any one religion. However I do read a lot on Wicca.
I also agree with
youngvampireneedsblood88 that I do not really associate Vampirism and Religion together. I think what ever you choose to believe is no real refelction on this lifestyle. I hope I am making sence. Personally being raised Roman Catholic, I do feel this group of people, or at least my old Church is full of thoes who are very closed minded to something out of the ordinary.
I have no religion, does this make me a bad person? I belive in vampirism, does this make me a bad person? I think it's how we feel about our selfs that count.
oh no, neither makes you a bad person. i was just inquiring after the interaction between religion and vampirism.
What I hear a lot, is "I am my own God", and stuff like that.
Personally, I don't think it matters much, because the only mythycal vampires that seem to have a serious problem with religious symbols, are the ones from Europe.
I've read about exorcisms performed in people that are connected to vampirism by witchcraft, but I don't know to what point it matters to the vampire the concept of religion...many of them, deluded, who knows, are convinced that they are their own gods, some chose to believe in nothing above or below.
"I have never had a vision or learned a secret that doomed or saved my soul".
I think that many people go by this principle, and it all depends on what the subject believes in.
The belief is proportional to the effect.
my 2 cents.
not sure about that question but most vamps dont have religions
I am quite strong in my faith as a christian but it is not a religion or a set of laws that I hold to but a way of life. It is in the way I treat people adn the way I endeavor to help every one I believe God has placed in my path. As far as the vampire part goes I believe you are good or bad not based on what you are or even really who you are but by what you do and how you think. That being the case I don't think it is necissarily mutally exclusive.
let me back up my response with this..
Can you be a sinner and be a christian at the same time.. yes we all are. Our human nature is rooted in sin.. our christianity is in accepting forgiveness from a loving Christ that died on a cross and was raised for us. That we might not be ruled by our natures but be open and freed to live more joyous lives and improve the lives of those we come into contact with by such beliefs.. Does this always work.? No we are humans nothing involving us always works
Vampires have as much freedom of religion as anything else... and I'm sure they are all different in their beliefs but i don't think it interferes with them being a vampire.
I dont believe in an organized religion, but I do believe that no matter what you are, you can believe what you want to believe.
Just because you are of the condition doesn't mean you can't actively be apart of any religion. Yes, pulling energy from the surrounding area can hinder your likeness when it comes down to ceramonies, but there are ways of getting around pull these energies so they do not know what you are.
I personally have my own ideals which seem to follow alot of the old Jewish ethics and pratices.

Most religions are very closed minded and need to open up to new ideas. There is more than just one religion and they all say they are right so i think no religion is right but all are equal.
The traditional mythic vampires were evil cursed creatures. The modern day practice of vampirism is generally in and of itself not evil nor is it a curse. Modern vampirism is only evil if you are using unwilling victims and or killing people in the practice of it. As for the religion aspect of it I can only speak on the two religions I am familiar with Christianity and Satanism. The Christian bible does not mention vampires. It does however mention drinking blood in atleast 20 different locations and in all but one of those it is something that should or will be done. The one that doesnt fall into that category is a question. It nowhere says it is wrong or bad that I was able to find. Satanism also does not discourage vampirism. Drinking blood is a part of sevral Satanic rituals usually animals but some human. I see no reason that you cant practice the vampirism lifestyle and whatever religion you chose unless that religion prohibits drinking of human blood or you kill humans in the practice thereof since most religions prohibit killing.
im not technically a vampire but i dont think it matters what religion you are.
There is an aspect in which I learned as I read through a bit of the Qabalah. This is the aspect: There is only the One God, and the One God has his Angels. Yet, the One God, in all his wisdom has made it so man would have many aspects to see God in. So God, can be the Goddess, the Saint, Jesus. Yet no matter what, those prayers will always end up to the One God, who will hear you.

It should be about your faith in your Self, your Energy, your Knowledge, your Power, your Clarity of Mind, and knowing your True Path...Religon is for the weak minded who can not make the right choices for themselves...
im wiccan..and im a vamp... i dont think it involves religion.. at all. but its all good i luv it :)
they only time i have seen religion and vampirism mixed was in one movie where they tried to say that dracula was judas iscariot because of his betrayal.........hence the reason for the hatred of the cross
If anyone says the Vampyric bible is the Book of Nod, their going to get slapped... If people would look on the back it will say in silver letters "White Wolf Productions or Publishing or Games"
Thats not the Vampyric bible...
its a Game bible for VtM...
- Sin
I have no issues with other religions, just people keep thinking the book of Nod, is some sort of religious text. Which it isn't, its from a game called vampire the Masquerade.
Personally, I believe you can be any religion you want. If you want to follow some sort of religion out of a game or created from a game, go for it. Yet, I just wanted to make it clear that the book of Nod wasn't a actualy biblical text.
I've ran into SOOOOOO many people who regarded that book as something to worship.
Now I wonder if someone is going to Worship the Ordo Dracul and the Rites of the Dragon, which is a covenant in the new Vampire the Requiem Game... If this ends up being the case... holy hell.

i was a christian and a vampire at one time...it really wasnt that hard to be both... but after being kicked out of a "christian" school i decided it was time to drop religion and be me...but i think if you are religious and a vampire then more power to you
To Sin:
Well written. Neither the Book of Nod NOR the Bible should be worshipped. They are BOOKS. I wish more Christians would understand the place of the Bible.
To Enigma:
Sir, with all due respect, until this day I had never seen you make any statement without a cogent, lucid foundation. As a person who IS of a Faith, I resent your blanket statement that religion is for the weak minded. I had not expected such from you.
VladVoivode
I believe that yes your beliefs must have something if even little to do with being a vampire; however, I also see too many religious people who claim to be vampires not even following their own religious rules which worries me greatly because I don't believe that those people would be able to follow any sense of structure system... where would their honor and loyalty lay?
-Valik
I am a christian therefor the rules against murder and stealing so i couldnt be a vampire myself as if i didnt kill i would have to steal SOME blood from a victim.
However friendship with a/some vampire(s) would be perfectly acceptabal as far as i am concerned. People falsley use christianity to manipulate populations and people think that christians can't associate and feel they must exterminate sinners and non christians which is bullshit trust me! To be a christian is to forgive and to accept so no matter what the crimes of the person/ vampire christians can choose who they befriend. If you should feel strongly against the actions of the Vampire involved then you dont befreind them but that is a matter of morals and tastes not of religeon
Most religions, if not all, were created by man for man. If it is in conflict with your religion, so what. These "religions" were created many years ago. Thus, times have changed, as well should we.
I see no reason why vampism would really interfere with a religion.
(provided you don't burst into flames as you enter the chapel)
I have alot of faith.. I am a very spiritual person and I am happy like that. But why should it get in the way of anything. I personally dont think I am doing anything wrong for it to be in the way. To me, from what I have seen, there are more spiritual people on here than any other group I have ever belonged to..
I am pagan, and I have not once run across anything that says anything against vampyres. It does play a small facter in the way I use my vampyrism. I will not harm another, I do not take blood without consent, and I will not take energy to the point 0of hurting another. I like being iin public for one reason, MASSIVE population for energy drawing.

"Religion is for the weak minded who cannot choose for themselves."
Interesting. Perhaps the millions who died in the Nazi and Communist death camps for defending their religious beliefs would, if they could, care to debate that statement.
Agnostic, aetheist, Christian, pagan, all of these are belief systems. None of the adherents would feel they are weak-minded and I certainly wouldn't label them as such.
Vampirism can co-exhist with any belief system, so long as the "vampire" follows the moral guidelines of whatever spiritual path they follow.
Organized religion was created as a way for the government to control its people...putting in their head that if they could get away with murder with the law...God saw them do it and thier going to hell...if everyone knew there was no God...and knew they could get away with a crime or sin what would keep them from doing it? there would be no threat of eternal damnation so to speak for doing it...there would be alot more chaos that there currently is now in the world...so Vampirism and religion? they have nothing to do with one another
VampyersKss,
Organised religion developed well before any concept of Government as it is exists in the modern Era, by which, I mean post-classical.
The first religions worshipped the anthropomorphic representations of natural forces, many thousands of years ago, probably the earliest are in the Mesopotamian area.
Writing was barely developed as an artform when the first ceremonies to the 'Gods' were performed.
They may well on occassion be usurped by those with a nefarious agenda, but certainly it would seem unlikely that all religious groups are designed and supported by 'The Government' in order to subjigate 'The Masses'.
I see only 2 different ways to escape from our own miserable reality.
This is a tight one to comment upon....Religion needs to be defined in the first place....If you mean Mainstream Religion. I care not one jolt what they think of me or my believes....Why should I listen to the words of religions that stamp down on Religions/believes of those that have walked amongst the people of this world long long before these main stream religions were born. Then outlaw the following of such faith.
ALthough I also respect the believes of others who wish to show faith in these religions...
Everyone has a right to show faith in something, and this is a good thing to have in your life...However it is wrong to shove this down someone elses throat when they do not follow your path...
Religion and believe = something to one person but is different to another...
So it is each person to their own path and none other should be able to pass their following over to another...
Religion and Vampirism should exsist along side each other like everything else in the Universe
I do not believe in any god or any devil. But, I believe that your faith in anything should not affect your way of life.
Im athiest so I have no problem fallowing vampiric lifestyles :D
Atheist...thats a whole different ball park...its been said that an athiest is the first person to yell "ohh god" when they know the airplane is gonna crash...simply a thought
i dont know what all religion a vampire can be but it would be funny as hell if you saw a catholic vampire. i mean one that still practiced catholocism ( or however you spell that)
Well I have a thread on this in a way. Being wiccan and vamp and abiding the rules of the Rede. It can be done but it takes practice.
Religion and vampirism is a very touchy subject especially concerning christians and many other similar religions. Too many are narrow minded or supersticious. They believe all things different from their beliefs point to the devil and his mascinations. Much of christianity is politics that deal in persecution. They have closed themselves off from reality. "Know your enemy", is an old term. There are good and bad in all things and in all things there is neutrallity.....
They fear that which they do not know. As is their nature.
Don't get me wrong, I am a christian but I strive to keep myself openminded to all things.
i don't have a religion, and i like it that way. my friend who is also a vampire though seems to get sick when he goes inside a church, or touches something holy, etc.
As a pagan I accept that I am a vampire and as such I have responiblilites of this gift or curse that I was born with.
i have never agreeed with relgion ...so i dont really know about that...but i know what i love and that is vampires and being one.....
Being a traditional witch I have no problem with two two mixing.
My religion is Vampyrism. There isn't much left of the religious side of vampyrism. most of it has been lost to time. But what I do have comes from the former Temple of Azagthoth, the former Black Order of the Dragon and the Temple of the Vampire. To compliment that with dark paganism, chaos magic, both traditional and modern satanism, nercomancy and various other things.
Im a very open minded person, nothing really bother's me ( except Chav's..YUK..Die Mudda fucker's) ok...i was raised to be catholic but chose to become Athesist (long story)! People are who they are, we should never judge them on their looks or belief's, but get to know them as people
i was raised catholic but now im pagan and im devoted to my relegion i veiw people as they are unless i get a bad vibe then i just dont go around them or talk to them but other than that i except them for who they are as long as they dont try to influence me with thier relegion
