Definately for some people, I notice people are crazier near the full moon. Myself, I feel the cravings to feed a lot less when the moon is full. And I know some people who get MUCH hornier when it's full.

I spent over 25 years in police dispatch/911 center and I can attest from personal experience that the full moon did affect the behavior of people. Sometimes it would be deadly quiet which was very unusual but most full moons the really weird or unusual things would happen.

There were lots of crazy wrecks or shootings or murder from more than usual stupid arguments, you just never knew what would happen next during the full moon time.

Yes the full moon does have a effect on people. I have worked in several nutrsing homes and everytime the full moon came the residents acted more restless, were awake all night, and definately more emotional for the residents and staff.

I don't feel any different because of a full moon. I would say many rationalize crazy behaviour on the full moon to justify stupid, careless acts that cause accidents.

Visualize towns torn apart with random beheadings, frenzied knife attacks on grassy knolls and werewolves howling at the moon. No, it’s not your average Saturday night out on the town; they’re just a few of the maniacal incidences associated with the advent of a new or full moon.

And, unless you’ve been locked away from civilization lately you may have noticed the recent spate of beheadings. It’s been a pretty grim time. Two seemingly unprovoked attacks in Greece and Canada saw two guys go stir crazy with a bloody big knife, one beheading his girlfriend, the other beheading a complete stranger on a bus. Neither had previously recorded psychological problems. Both incidences occurred at the time of the new moon. But is this just coincidence or could these gruesome events of the past few weeks be related to the gravitational forces of the moon?

Whether in myth and legend or reality a new or full moon is said to send people mad. In fact, ‘lunacy’, ‘lunatic’ and most probably the term ‘loony’ all derive from the Latin word for moon – “luna.”

Lunacy Through the Ages

In ancient times, if the Chinese emperor’s astrologers failed to predict the exact times of a new or full moon they were beheaded; there is at least one recorded case in 2300 BC. Roman authorities were more lenient on troublemakers who committed crimes during the new moon as they were convinced it had major influence on people’s behavior. In the middle ages pregnant women were warned that if they went out during a full moon they would give birth to lunatics. And in 17th century England links between the moon and madness actually entered into English law. Sir William Hale, who later became Chief Justice of England, wrote:

“The moon hath a great influence in all diseases of the brain, especially dementia; such persons commonly in the full and change of the moon, especially about the equinoxes and summer solstice, are usually at the height of their distemper.”
Astrology

The new moon in August occurred on the same day as the solar eclipse, August 1, 2008, which, astrologers say, means it fell in the sign of Leo. This is turn is thought to agitate the nebulae cluster of The Aselli, or the asses, which were traditionally held by astronomers as harbingers of death by fire, fever, hanging and beheading!

Could this be a tentative link to how people behave during the phase of a new moon?

…and now for the (pseudo) science.

Not entirely convinced, we thought we’d indulge our clinical senses and look at it from a purely scientific point of view: How could the new moon affect us? Physiologically, what could it do to the contents of our skull? Maybe if we understood that then we could surmise whether in fact the moon has any influence whatsoever on our mental faculties.

During a full moon, the moon is on the opposite side of the earth from the sun and therefore negates the sun’s gravitational pull, but during a new moon the moon sits on the same side of the earth as the sun, thus massively increasing the sun’s gravitational effects.

This dramatic change in gravity may have a significant affect on the human brain. Who’s to say that there isn’t some transient damage to this intricate organ that, when compared to the size of the earth, sun and moon, is minute and therefore more prone to greater changes during these fluctuations in gravitational force? After all the brain is encased in a closed space so even the slightest pressure changes could dramatically affect normal functionality.

Think of the pressure headaches some people get before and during thunderstorms due to changes in the atmosphere. If that slight change in pressure causes blinding headaches then it’s entirely possible that the pressure generated during the phase of a new moon coupled with a solar eclipse could have huge detrimental effects to the human brain.

Are the recent beheadings in Greece and Canada explicable? It’s impossible for us to prove one way or the other, for that there would need to be highly controlled clinical trials. In the meantime we’ll have to leave the ball in your court. What do you think?

Source, Yahoo answers.
People have blamed the moon for crazy behavior for a long time, at least since the Middle Ages. We've even made a word out of it. Lunatic means "moonstruck," if you trace the word to its Latin roots. It makes for a good entertaining story, but not good science.

Despite many studies attempting to prove the "lunar effect," as it's called, there is no conclusive evidence that it exists.

People who believe in the lunar effect often say we only need to look at the tides to see how powerful the moon can be. If the human body also is mostly water, then why shouldn't the moon have a similar tug on us? One problem with that notion is that high and low tides occur twice daily. So, by that logic, we'd be subject to the lunar effect a couple times a day--not just the once or twice a month we get a full moon.

A more plausible argument for the existence of the lunar effect is that, at least before the widespread use of electricity, people could see outside better at night when the moon was full. And, by virtue of more people being able to see, more people would be out and about, which would lead to more mayhem.

Many attempts have been made to prove mathematically that the lunar effect exists. Many studies have shown no connection whatsoever, and a good portion of the ones that make claims for the effect's existence have been discredited because of flawed study methods.

Well all I really know is when I was working in a gas station overnights, whenever the moon was full thats when we would have the most drive offs or people trying to steal stuff from the store... Even had one guy start throwing beer bottles at me because it was too late for me to legally sell them to him. So yes, I would have to say that I honestly do think the moon cycle can affect a person's mind.

As a one time graveyard worker (at a gas station) I can attest to the increase of activity on full moons, however this would not apply on over cast nights. People lose a sense of time when there is more light.

break in type crimes rise on nights with new moons (it is darker cover).

Just as the days get longer bars have more toss-outs of people misjudging their stay.

Dabbler, that's the weirdest part of the "full moon behavior", science and medicine keep saying No way but the people that actually are out there all night, month after month don't need science to prove what they experience.

What always confused me about it was the way some months it'd stir everyone susceptible to it up crazy and yet others keep them all quiet? I'd love to see a reason for that difference.

Whether it's due to lunar effects or just circumstantial effects like being able to see better, the fact remains that more craziness happens on full moons. And for some people there is a definite effect, I know I've seen it and felt it. Of course not everyone is effected in the same way and most, not at all effected. But there is an effect from it.

Maybe possible the feelings are brought on by the ability to see more at night, it could be some people have an instinct to do with hunting in some way, like an exsta awareness or adrenaline rush, maybe some of our species hunted day and night for food which might exsplain it.

Dont take this idea of mine seriously, it's just random questioning thoughts

If moon cycle affects nature and the sea why it wouldn't effect people too?

Lunatic-comes from the word luna, which means moon.

My expirience: I don't like to go out much, yet on full moons I sort of feel a necessity, without even caring that it is the full moon, then realise it is when I go out.

During the weekends of the full moon I see more rude people at bars and pubs more than usual.

here are things science cannot prove but it does not mean to say that it isnt possible. for example the sliding boulders of death vally. (Well worth the research)

I hands down beleive that a full moon disrupts normal human behaviour, though it may depend on the person. The full moon in the end of oct got me feeling almost high. I felt things deeper, i cant explain XD
I was on edge, expecting something and i felt drawn to the moon. Its crazy i know but it happens from time to time. Maybe there is a scientific way to explain it. until a theory comes along, i'm blaming that rock in the sky lol.

Thats just my 2 cents :)

One experience i have is feeling more alert and aware while full moon is around. I'm not as tired and more awake than normal.

I wonder if this is similar to SAD{seasonal affective disorder} ?. Where the seasons and ammount of sunlight a person may recieve directly influences their mood/behavior.

I believe that the cycle of the moon does affect people maybe not all yet, most are effected by it as to their moods and behaviors. I worked the med field many years and can say that the ER was craziest at teh full moon.

I am a firm believer that the cycles of the moon and planets affect everyone we all are connected in soem sense, so yes the moon affectt the mind, why not sure, I mean we as people go through cycles of life even with changing of hormomes every so many years and even our lives are coded as to cycles of life. just how I see it is all.

Info taken from site, the source is below

It happens at least once every month. Sometimes, rarely, it happens twice a month. Up there in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's a FULL MOON.
Popular legend has it that the full moon brings out the worst in people: more violence, more suicides, more accidents, more aggression. The influence of the moon and behavior has been called "The Lunar Effect" or "The Transylvania Effect." The belief that the full moon causes mental disorders and strange behavior was widespread throughout Europe in the middle ages. Even the word "lunacy" meaning "insanity" comes from the Latin word for "moon."

You may hear people say,

"Just ask an emergency room nurse or a police phone operator. They will tell you that they are busier on nights when there is a full moon."
Is there scientific evidence to support these beliefs? Let's look at the data

yes Danzig ... most of the data is based on violent crime, here is some of the info on the site regarding the change at full moon

Violence, Aggression and Crime

11,613 cases of aggravated assault in a 5-year period: assaults occurred more often around the full moon.
Reference: Human aggression and the lunar synodic cycle (1978)

34,318 crimes in a 1-year period: crimes occurred more frequently during the full moon.
Reference: J. Psychology, vol. 93:81-83, 1976.

Suicides

841 cases of "self-poisonings" in a 4-year period: self-poisonings did occur more often on the day of the full moon.
Reference: Full moon and poisoning (1980)

Emergency Room Calls/Emergency Room Visits/Hospital Admissions

Calls to a poison center monitored over a 1-year period: unintentional poisonings occurred more often during the full moon cycle. However, the number of calls due to intentional poison exposure (suicides/drug abuse) was significantly LOWER during the full moon and higher during the new moon.
Reference: Lunar cycle and poison center calls (1983)

Animal Bites

1,621 patients over 3 year period who were bitten by either a cat, rat, horse or dog: the incidence of animal bites was significantly higher around the full moon.
Reference: Do animals bite more during a full moon? Retrospective observational analysis (2000)

yes Tannaleaf ... (seasonal affective disorder) is another one i have thought could be the change which i am going to look at now as my winter months seem a lot worse than the summer months, apart from the nice cool weather, i have known this since a teenager

Well the lunar cycles affect the tides of the oceans and waters of the world. Considering our bodies are 70% water, is it so ludicrous to think that the moon also affects us as humans?

I have worked graveyard shifts for years at convenience stores and I notice the difference in peoples behavior during the full moon. People I observed in my store were more erratic and jerky with their movements as well as their personality filters seemed to all come off at once. I had many regulars that were "normal" during all other times but seemed to go off the deep end during the full moon.

People will blame the full moon on anything they can. As for scientific research evidence there is no coloration from the full moon to how people act differently on it. Certain religions focus more on the full moon as it seems to be able to give them more abilities. I for one do believe that it can give you extra energy on such an event. As for pulling strange events and calling it the full moon or blaming it on it. I don't think that that should be the case. It's just a moon. I may believe that it can give you more energy to draw upon but that is the extent of what I believe. I don't know why I do, i just do.

It's just my opinion and for that matter opinions should have some basis other then well the full moon made me do it.

Full Moon Ion Effect

Why does all hell seem to break loose on or around the Full Moon?

(high positive ion concentrations in the air are associated with the full moon)

The term Lunatic is derived from the word Lunar (Moon).

Simply put; Hormonal reactions to increased positive ions in the air (Full Moon Effect) cause hyperactivity, depression, violent behavior, road rage, higher occurrences of migraines and asthma. Even bees are known to sting without provocation on higher positive ion ratios.

The Israeli Army considers the Sharav wind (high in positive ion concentrations) a natural enemy of an efficient fighting force. They even have a term for this reaction called "Bedouinism" which means the soldiers cease to be alert, or effective fighters during the wind. 1
In some middle east countries, Judges are more lenient on criminals if the crime was committed during increased positive ion wind conditions.

These periodic winds blowing in from the desert are called the Sharav. University studies in Israel concluded that increased positive ions can cause an increase in violent tendencies.

The Biochemical Reaction
Just about all the air you breathe has some quantity of Aero-Ions. Ions are charged particles in the air (between a few hundred to a few thousand per cubic centimeter).

Some ions are negatively charged (Negative Ions) and some positively charged (Positive Ions).

After years of research around the world, Ion Scientists have determined over and over that an imbalance in the ratio between Positive and Negative Ions has a profound effect on both your mental and physical well being.

http://www.policeops.com/full-moon-ion-effect.htm

There are many sites which give info on ions, which are particles in the air, the positive ones are linked to the change at full moon, causing violent crime and chemical reactions in the body and increase from what i have read on various sites at full moon.

I believe it has something to do with blood pressure... as in you know how the moon pushes and pulls at any body of water. I think the same thing goes for people. We are made mostly of water. It makes sence.

The moon so high in all its greatness would be sitting atop the midnight sky. Raining down its radiant lights, mocking all with its magnificant glow. Man's greatest inspiration yet his worst advesary. The clouds envelope the rays for mere seconds, distracting man from his worries as the moon pierces the veil of clouds. Man is once again caught up in its luster. His path now lit by lunar light. Where it shall lead is up to the moon.

So I looked out my window, and dead center was the moon, a crescent moon like half of them are its now gone, hiding behind the clouds. I decided to respond to this topic, which I should have done the other day.

Women are more attuned to the moon, as the wiccan symbol for the moon is the triple goddess, the maiden, mother and crone, waxing, full, and waning. This doesn't mean that men can't be attuned, that wouldn't be fair. For thousands of years, it is true that the moon may cause maddness, as the human body is 80% water. If the earth had no gravity, all the worlds' water would flow to the moon, as do the waves of the water pull towards the moon anyway.

Luna is latin for moon, leading to the word Lunatic from the fact that more people suffer mental illness during a full moon. The condition of Lycanthropy is also known to rise during the full moon, more common in men, the apparent lycanthrope or lycan for short, develops inhuman strength and wolf characteristics, and I think that the turm of werewolf comes in, maybe not changing into an actual wolf, maybe increase of body hair, wolf characteristics, and probably dislocation or non tempremental deformation of the limbs. Also, crime rates are more raised on a night of the full moon as are accidents, and more people taken to hospital.

Of course it does. You know that the moon is moving away from us? It has been for awhile. It's moving away at about an inch a year. It would not be a good thing if we didn't have it!

Along with the cycles of the moon, are also astrological cycles and that influences us. The cycles change like every 2 to 2 1/2 days. For instance, the moon was in Capricorn Thursday and Friday, but I believe it's probably in Aquarius now, which means people will be more chatty, maybe more scatterbrained, more group oriented, want to text or type to people more, and more mind oriented than emotional, generally. Then it will be Pisces and that's water, so people will be more emotional, sensitive, passive, maybe flaky, hide at home, moody, arty, and want to drink more or do more drugs.

The moon affects water (our tides) and we are mainly water. Mmmmk? ;)

Anyway, you get the point. And astrology has ties to astronomy, so there ya go! =)

Since the moon is a gravitational satellite, it does have an extreme effect on us. Is it a planet, no. But it does fit into the mental "luna/lunar-tic" side of things.

Since it is moving away from us, this could in theory create a sort of less mental machination for the mind, but this has yet to be scientifically or psychologically proven.

It is well documented by police, doctors and psychologists that the moon has a power affect over some individuals. The scientific belief is that it is due to the water content of our bodies, like the oceans of the world the moon affects us.

But it isn't just us it affects animals as well.

I do security for a living, and honestly over the years we have noticed a rise and fall in human behavioral patterns with the moon cycle. People seem to just get a little more edgy and more sporadic when the full moon is approaching. We definitely seem to see a rise in statistics and incidents when the moon has reached its peak. I’m not sure why it has that type of an affect on people. I have also heard there are research studies showing that the moon cycles affect children’s behavior, but I am not sure where or if that information is posted anywhere.

Some children are more vulnerable to these things.. even more so than adults, though there are adults who are easily affected by these things as well. It's not only the moon, but other factors that we are anot aware of. The moon shows itself quite brilliantly to Earth, and I think that plays a major part in the conclusions of the people that we are affected by the Moon. It's something that we have to come in terms with.

Is it any wonder that the Moon can affect a person that is made out of mostly water, when it can make ocean waves and warp the very atmosphere? You should be able to feel the pull if you pay attention to your own body.

My mum told me once that my Grandmother used to work in a nursing home, and during the time of the full moon the residents would become restless, have nightmares, or act strangely.

I know my mum's moods were effected by the cycle of the moon. She was a fairly unpredictable person. However, I could at least bank on knowing which end of the spectrum her emotions would be at if I judged them by the cycle of the moon.

Did you know there was a Solar Eclipse today? I forgot all about it when I got up in the morning, but I felt sooo tired and lethargic just about 2 hours before the actual eclipse was supposed to take place. I was actually deep asleep during the whole event! And I heard it has happened after a period of 108 years! Gosh, to think that I missed that moment. But I think it affected me in a way... And maybe the moon had soemthing to do with it. Did it affect anyone else as well?

I noted the most interesting post having to do with the human body being made up mostly of water and how the moons pull effects our oceans. So simple an ideal and yet it had never crossed my mind. I am glad someone mentioned it. The moons pull or gravity is just a form of energy isn’t it. And the human body is an energy source. Pulling at its energy could very easily throw its balance off and effect the way the mind reacts and in turn the body itself. Much as if the ocean can go from calm to waves and storms crushing in on its shores. A perfect observation to compare to; if the ocean reacts in such a way to the sway of the moon imagine what it must be doing to our bodies. Not to get off key but paranormal activity seems to peak with the cycle also. The moon seems to have a noticeable affect on energy. I’ve also heard that the Earths gravitational pull may actually be directly affected by the moon, but for now this is just hear-say. Has anyone come across any studies that have been completed on human behavior and moon cycles? If so I would love to see the link posted that we may all further research the ideal.

Absolutely it does! it's a proven scientific fact.
The human body is 80% water. During the Full moon the tides are raised from lunar pull against gravity with the earth which also effects living creatures.
It is why the term Lunar and Lunia pertaining to Lunatic was studied so intensly.
Now however we have much sweeter terms to use.

I have noticed over the last few months that I get quite ... I guess you could call it 'odd' around the full moon. I can't be around people, my emotions go haywire, worse than they usually are with my empathy. It happened a few weeks ago, and I didn't even know it was the full moon until two days later my Coven on here made a post about it. I wound up shutting myself in my bedroom crying my eyes out with crawling skin ... thought I was losing my mind...

You know, the thing that gets me is the fact that the moon is a natural Satellite. It gives off its own energy vibrations that would seem to interact with people that are intune with those energy vibrations, thus the term "luna-tic" or "lunar-tic" is born.

Though if the moon were a natural satellite giving off its own energy vibrations, then where do those vibrations come from?

Could call into question all those crazies out there...

I swear it cause people to act crazy . and just wild like their animal inner being / demon emerges during that cycle of the moon.

Some say the polarities of the planets have soemthing to do with it, I just say it is a fullll moon LOL

I know from first hand experience, that moon cycles affect the mind. I worked in a prison, once upon a time and each time there was a full moon, fights would break out, and certain people would become extremely moody. I myself am prone to more moodiness, and i feel liked i am in a cage and need to get out during these times. I also notice my animals are more restless at this time especially my dogs.
